Street sweeper ‘over the moon’ after holiday present

  • last month
Street sweeper Paul Spiers says he is “over the moon” after getting the go-ahead to be able to take a holiday to Portugal, funded by local residents in Beckenham, southeast London. Paul is so popular locals set up an online fundraiser to raise money to send him on a trip abroad for his birthday. But his bosses said he couldn't accept the gift because of the terms of his contract. Luckily a holiday company stepped in and created a competition only Paul could win. Report by Blairm. 00:00I'm just doing the job, just doing my own everyday job, but they seem to appreciate
00:16it a lot.
00:20It was really unexpected because I hadn't considered anything like that before we went
00:24live with it and I thought it was really sad that the people of Beckenham never got to
00:29use their money towards what they wanted it for, but ultimately Paul's still going to
00:34Portugal so that's what really matters and the community have come together to get that
00:38for him.
00:39Well I can't believe the beach resort in Portugal, I won that holiday and I've said that I've
00:51won it, I get to go send £3,000 or something whenever for me to go, so I'm over the moon,
01:00over the moon.
