00:00I've been keeping a lot of stuff secret.
00:01My parents don't really care about my music stuff.
00:04Girls, Trent Tuff, and alcohol.
00:05Don't fall in love.
00:06All right, no, no se enamoren.
00:08Hey, yo, what's up?
00:09It's J-O-P, and this is Billboard News.
00:18Hi, I'm Isabela Raygoza,
00:20and I'm here with J-O-P de Fuerza Rágida.
00:22Yo, what's crackin'?
00:23We're here locked in.
00:25Todo bien.
00:25Happy to be here.
00:27Thank you for having us.
00:28It's so good to have you in New York, you know?
00:30I'm also from SoCal,
00:32so San Bernardino represent, aquí.
00:34Oh, I've only seen you in Cali.
00:35You've only seen me in Cali,
00:36and I am from Cali,
00:37and I always go back in holidays,
00:39but, you know, that's why it's always-
00:41Only holidays?
00:41Of course, I know, I should go more often.
00:43Yeah, you gotta go more.
00:44Pero hey, yo, let's talk about your new album,
00:46Pero No Te Enamores.
00:48Like, honestly, dope.
00:49I am amazed at the sonic transitions that you've done.
00:54Pero antes de hablar about the new sounds,
00:57let's talk about the title, Pero No Te Enamores.
01:00That's just the vibe right now.
01:01I've said it in a couple interviews already,
01:03it's just a little bit of everything.
01:05If you think about the name, Pero No Te Enamores,
01:07that's what it is.
01:08Okay, okay.
01:09Like, in general.
01:10Okay, okay.
01:11All around.
01:12Yeah, that's the vibe right now.
01:13I was also pretty, like, taken aback
01:16about, like, how you were able to fuse these two styles,
01:20you know, Jersey Club and Corridos.
01:21You coined Jersey, Corridos.
01:23Yeah.
01:24How did that mix come together, first of all?
01:26Before I answer your question, let me ask you a question.
01:28If you've been here for 10 years, do you like Jersey?
01:30Yes.
01:31You kind of like it a little bit?
01:32Claro que sí, yes.
01:34And then, I'm not really, and it comes from this side,
01:36so I'm not really, like, when I started,
01:38when I first heard it, I loved it.
01:39Okay.
01:40So that's why I was like,
01:41man, I want to do something with it.
01:43And I just didn't know how, what I was going to do,
01:45and I knew about when I did it
01:47that they were going to talk shit and all that.
01:49So when it got to the point to make a new album,
01:51I was like, I want to do a lot of Jerseys.
01:53Like, kind of dance, and a lot of dance music.
01:56So I wanted to just move something different,
01:57but we stayed original to ourselves.
02:00And we made it a new sound,
02:01and now I'm just, we made a new thing
02:02called Jersey, Corridos.
02:04Man, if people want to follow along,
02:05you know, we can join.
02:07You've always been really bold,
02:08like, everything you've done, everything you've released.
02:10And one of the other songs, too,
02:12that really stood out to me was Freestyle,
02:14because you used some drill elements in there, too.
02:16Sounds like New York shit.
02:17That is really New York, so.
02:18Damn, and we in New York.
02:20I feel like we're going to have to stay over here
02:22for a little bit.
02:23I've always been a big fan of New York.
02:25I love West Coast, because that's where I'm from, right?
02:27But I've always loved the swag from New York.
02:29You've also collaborated with, you know, several artists,
02:31and, you know, with Maluma, for example,
02:33on the song Valeria.
02:34So just, you know, let's just talk,
02:36let's break down a song step-by-step
02:38about, you know, how your process was like.
02:40First of all, how did the collaboration come together?
02:43It was a lot about what's the vibe right now,
02:45what's the era with us, with our band,
02:48with the vibe, with the fans, you know?
02:50Like, Peronotan Amores, right?
02:53I feel like this album,
02:55because I didn't want to leave no one out,
02:56even my core fans.
02:57I still added two, three corridos in there,
02:59so they wouldn't get so upset,
03:01but they got a little upset on the internet
03:03that I did this new thing.
03:06Freestyle was like, let me do something that I like.
03:10I like drill as well.
03:11I've been liking drill since Pop Smoke and all that.
03:14I'm from the U.S., and I'm born over here,
03:15Mexican-American, so I've always wanted to do
03:18stuff like that, and now I'm just happy
03:20that I'm incorporating it in my stuff.
03:23I just chose a drill.
03:24I'm going to do a drill,
03:25because I'm fucking a lot with the Central Sea.
03:29Central Sea.
03:30So, I was like, hey man, let me do some drill.
03:33And that, I called it freestyle
03:35because I hopped in the booth and I just,
03:37boom, boom, I started freestyling.
03:39And I just, the whole song was like 95%,
03:4290% of the song was freestyle.
03:44It was just, that song was from the heart.
03:46You know, and it's really interesting
03:48because when I saw you guys perform last year
03:51at the Prudential Center, and you-
03:53Last year?
03:54Yeah, last year.
03:55And then you played a little bit of Pop Smoke
03:57in the concert.
03:58Oh, yeah, yeah.
03:59Yeah, and I was like, you know what?
04:00I could see J-O-P doing some drill.
04:03Like, it kind of occurred to me.
04:04That's crazy, huh?
04:05Every city I go to, I like to incorporate
04:07the vibe a little bit.
04:08So, we were in New Jersey, and I was like, hey man,
04:10we always think, like, what should we put here?
04:12Oh, like, we're popping in New York.
04:13I was like, oh man, Pop Smoke.
04:15You know, and we really, his style is dope.
04:19You know, rest in peace.
04:21Totally.
04:22Let's talk a bit about, like, the production on the album.
04:24You enlisted Gordo and Synthetic.
04:26So, why were they the perfect fit
04:28as your producers for this album?
04:29I was like, let me call these guys, and I knew them.
04:32It's more, I already had a kind of a little relation
04:33with them.
04:34I already had talked to them before.
04:35We have done something.
04:37So, let me hit them up, and let's get this album started.
04:40Mm-hmm.
04:41Y bueno, like, talking about more songs
04:44from your album, Jesús.
04:45El Corrido Jesús.
04:46El Corrido Jesús.
04:47Ah, I love that song.
04:48Está muy hermosa.
04:49Personal, like, you name drop, you know, your mom,
04:51tu mamá, que tengas cuidado.
04:53What kind of impact does your family have, like,
04:55when it comes to your music?
04:57My mom don't like what I say in my songs, you know?
04:59Obviously, my mom's the most, like, sweetest thing on earth.
05:03You know what I'm saying?
05:04She don't like what I say in my songs.
05:05She says, I like your melodies,
05:06but I don't like what you say.
05:08And my dad just, back in the day,
05:10I used to go and show him the songs.
05:11Now, I just, I'm so busy.
05:13Yeah.
05:13So, he hears them, like, when they're out.
05:14When they're already out, yeah.
05:15My parents don't really care about my music stuff.
05:18They just always make sure I'm okay, you know?
05:20Yeah, that's cool.
05:21I gotta check.
05:22Sometimes, I even be forgetting to check in
05:23on all these interviews, you know,
05:25trying to be stars, you know what I'm saying?
05:27Si, si, si.
05:28But family's the most important thing in life.
05:30Who would you say inspired you, you know, artistically?
05:34I have so many.
05:36A lot of US artists.
05:37Yeah, Drake was one of them, too.
05:39Drake, Lil Baby.
05:41Oh, yeah, yeah.
05:42For sure, Lil Baby.
05:44More than anything, he's, like, inspired me
05:46in the way he would do things and move.
05:49Like, that's how we move in the art here, too, you know?
05:52So, to do a drill song, Central Sea, of course.
05:55That's on the Anglo side, the Mexican side.
05:58A lot of big artists.
05:59I get inspired by their careers
06:00and what they've done, what they've created.
06:02Like, Luis Miguel, and especially, like,
06:03Vicente Fernandez, like, rest in peace.
06:06You know, like, he was a star, you know, in movies.
06:09Yeah.
06:09He's, like, he did it.
06:10Back in the day, it was different.
06:12It was.
06:12Back then, like, all the Ranchera stars were also actors.
06:15You remember the movies and stuff?
06:16Yeah, oh, yes, I did, yeah.
06:18So, like, it was like a movie,
06:20and then, out of nowhere, boom, a music video.
06:21Like, in the movie, like, in the scene.
06:22Yeah, from Pedro Infante era, yeah.
06:24I love that you put murals in different, like,
06:27cities around, but that one you released,
06:29where you announced your album.
06:30That's what we did for the album, yeah.
06:31It started with, we did one for the tour,
06:34and then we just said, hey, let's put one in every city.
06:37Let's go.
06:38And then we put them in a lot of, like,
06:41mom-and-pop stores and stuff,
06:42so people could go buy stuff and shit.
06:43That's cool.
06:44For the people, you know?
06:45Yeah.
06:46And it gets to promote our album.
06:47Yeah.
06:48At marketing, we got the best team.
06:49Also, a video that I thought it was, like, super dope.
06:53Yeah, you picked up some Home Depot guys.
06:56Home Depot, yeah.
06:57The Home Depot, to offer them, like, a job,
06:59and then, instead, you took them to, I mean, partying,
07:02and then you get the money at the end of it.
07:04We always do nice things.
07:05We not always record them.
07:06Yeah, that was really awesome, yeah.
07:07We not always record them and show them,
07:08but this time, we're like,
07:09hey, let's do this nice gesture, and let's record it.
07:12But it's dope, you know?
07:13We need to help people in need, you know?
07:15So, the day that you released your album,
07:18you threw a party at the beach.
07:20You were DJing.
07:21Yeah.
07:22I'm learning how to DJ.
07:23See, and then you're also,
07:24you're DJing right now on tour, too.
07:26Yeah, we do.
07:27We kind of show the songs.
07:28Yeah.
07:30So they can get ready.
07:30We try to pump them up, and start performing them.
07:33Right now, we just DJ.
07:34We DJ them and invite some fans on stage.
07:37So, how did you, like, you know,
07:39tell me about that, like, DJing.
07:40Like, are you, you know, how are you,
07:43did you know how to DJ?
07:44No, never.
07:45The homie was like, hey, you're a DJ now.
07:47We're gonna go buy you a DJ set.
07:49Go ahead, we'll buy it.
07:50Like, I like the DJ vibe,
07:52but I'd rather be an artist, you know what I'm saying?
07:54I'd rather be a singer, you know what I'm saying?
07:56Yeah.
07:57But, it's fun to DJ.
07:59The DJ thing started with this album.
08:01It wasn't like I ever thought about doing that.
08:03Yeah.
08:04It just, out of nowhere, just.
08:05Now that I really, like, started doing this album,
08:07and now that I'm looking over to the other side,
08:08it's beautiful.
08:09Shout out to all the DJs killing it, man.
08:10Totally.
08:11Who is, like, your ideal collab at the moment?
08:13Like, who would you love to collaborate with?
08:15Collab, man.
08:16This is a hard question.
08:17They always ask me.
08:18I never know what to say.
08:19Okay, I got, I got El Buki, Luis Miguel.
08:21Okay, okay, okay.
08:21Stuff like that.
08:22You get me?
08:23Yeah, yeah, yeah.
08:24But right now, I'm like, I'm not sure.
08:25Like, I just dropped the album, so, like.
08:27Totally, no.
08:28I have no answer for that right now.
08:29Totally.
08:30And, well, if you can describe your parties
08:33in three words, what were.
08:35What do you mean, my parties?
08:36Well, the DJ parties that you're throwing.
08:37Like, I mean, the one that I saw on YouTube.
08:40That looked like a party to me.
08:41Yeah, that was a party.
08:43We do parties, we do parties only when we release stuff.
08:45Yeah, okay.
08:46Not that much.
08:47We should throw more parties, huh?
08:48You should.
08:49I mean, especially here in the East Coast,
08:52you know, from West Coast to East Coast.
08:52I mean, we do it with the influencers.
08:54Okay, yeah.
08:55You know?
08:56It looks like they're the ones that like to party
08:57more than other people.
08:58So we're like, hey, come party with us.
08:59Promoting brands and all, you know, so, yeah.
09:02We're locked in.
09:03Uh-huh.
09:03What words would you describe your parties?
09:05It's dope.
09:06Okay, pero three words.
09:07Three words?
09:08That you would describe your parties, uh-huh.
09:10Turned up.
09:11Okay.
09:12Alcohol.
09:13Okay.
09:14And girls.
09:15All right, girls, turned up, and alcohol.
09:17So final level.
09:17All right.
09:18No se enamoren, no te enamores.
09:21Is there anything that you can tease at the moment
09:24for our viewers?
09:25That you know, like-
09:26Tease, like-
09:27Yeah, like anything you're working on.
09:29Yeah, I mean, I know you just dropped an album,
09:30but just anything in general.
09:31I've been keeping a lot of stuff secret.
09:34Everyone thinks I'm dropping a new album.
09:35I'm not dropping a new album right now.
09:36We'll clear that up right here.
09:38But I am working on one.
09:40Okay.
09:41Already.
09:41Okay, ah, bueno, wow.
09:42All right, yeah.
09:44I feel like what we've been doing,
09:46I really feel this.
09:47It's pop corridos.
09:48Hmm, okay.
09:50When I heard that, I was like, yes.
09:50Interesting, wow.
09:51Yeah.
09:52So I think what we're like, que onda?
09:53Everything that's popping right now,
09:55everything that's made this more mainstream,
09:57I think it's pop corridos.
09:58Yeah.
09:59I think that's what we should name them,
10:00and that's what we should place them.
10:01I think that's what I really think
10:03from the bottom of my heart.
10:04I think, and whoever agrees with me right here,
10:07it's gonna get boring.
10:08I think pop corridos is the new stuff we're doing.
10:10Yeah.
10:10Jersey corridos, falls under that,
10:12corridos tumbados.
10:12I think pop corridos is the new thing.
10:15Okay.
10:16It's pop corridos.
10:17Interesting.
10:17And the tees that I'm working on.
10:19I'm working, not a new album, right?
10:21You can call it whatever,
10:22but I'm working on new music,
10:24and these are corridos.
10:25Yeah, okay.
10:26Not all pop corridos, not.
10:28If from your album,
10:28I know it's always kind of hard to pick,
10:30but if you had to pick your favorite song
10:31or maybe a few favorite songs,
10:33which one are you vibing with right now?
10:35Yeah.
10:36For sure, Nel.
10:38Nel is my favorite, hands down.
10:39For sure, Nel.
10:39Yes.
10:40I like Sofia,
10:41because since I'm liking that new DJ stuff
10:45and that vibe,
10:46that's the pop,
10:46that's the sound that's popping right now.
10:48Sofia, that's what I like that song.
10:52Secreto Victoria.
10:53Secreto Victoria.
10:54It's a Jersey, but it's a Jersey corrido.
10:56So that gots the guitars,
10:57that gots the charchetas,
10:58it gots all the good stuff.
10:59So, Bueno Mira,
11:00you're touring with over 35 dates.
11:03I don't know how much dates we've done already.
11:05Damn.
11:05We haven't stopped.
11:06A marathon.
11:07A lot of shows sold out,
11:08thank God, most of them.
11:09Agüevo.
11:10If you want to go to a show somewhere in the U.S.,
11:13buy your tickets at ticketmaster.com,
11:15run it up, they're available.
11:17Y bueno,
11:18tell us any highlights right now from the tour.
11:20You know, you're-
11:21It's a movie.
11:21It's a movie, okay.
11:22It's a movie,
11:23and I don't even want to say nothing.
11:24If you want to go look at it,
11:25go buy your tickets.
11:26For real.
11:27And you can see it on TikTok.
11:28So how do you, like,
11:29when you are about to hit the stage
11:31and, you know,
11:32you're performing in stadiums,
11:33arenas,
11:34todo eso,
11:35how do you, like,
11:36prepare to, like,
11:37confront, like,
11:38thousands and thousands of people?
11:39Like,
11:40do you have any rituals that you do?
11:41I probably should start preparing and stuff,
11:43because I just-
11:43You know, you just go.
11:45But I just be on record label stuff too.
11:47Woo woo artists,
11:48woo woo this.
11:49Sometimes I'm on the car and I'm,
11:50oh,
11:51I gotta go on stage.
11:52Let's go to the next stage, you know?
11:54You've been signing really dope acts,
11:56by the way.
11:57I consider our record label
11:58the best record label coming up right now.
12:00Pretty much.
12:01Yeah, no,
12:01honestly, like,
12:02it's awesome.
12:03So for those artists
12:04that are trying to catch your eye,
12:06what should they do?
12:07What,
12:08how can they get your attention?
12:10Like,
12:10the up-and-coming artists?
12:11Hard work.
12:13You gotta really, like,
12:14really love the hard work.
12:15You gotta have the talent,
12:16but if you don't got the hard work,
12:19it's a problem.
12:20Mm-hmm.
12:21So,
12:22you know?
12:23The people that don't do the hard work,
12:24I mean,
12:25it's fine,
12:26we can handle those too.
12:27We got a good team too.
12:28Make sure we-
12:29Steer them.
12:29Walk them by the hand,
12:30you know?
12:31But I prefer someone that has hard work,
12:34talent,
12:35but really likes to work,
12:36really wants something,
12:38like,
12:39that really sees the future.
12:40Like,
12:41hey,
12:42what do I wanna do in life?
12:42I'm gonna be this person later on in life.
12:45I look for someone that really believes in himself.
12:48Certain artists,
12:49you know,
12:50like,
12:50okay,
12:51this guy's gonna take some time,
12:52this guy's gonna go fast.
12:53The guy that said I was gonna take time,
12:55Chino Pacas.
12:56I've said this story a thousand times,
12:57I'll say it again,
12:58because it's like,
12:59he was one that we all thought like,
13:00oh,
13:01he's gonna take some time,
13:01you know what I'm saying?
13:02Mm-hmm.
13:03We look at artists,
13:05talent,
13:05we sign a lot of writers as well.
13:06Mm-hmm.
13:07The writers we sign,
13:11they become artists.
13:13So now,
13:14Armenta.
13:14Sí, sí, Armenta.
13:15He writes a lot of my music.
13:16Now,
13:17he has an album coming
13:19that we're dropping with Warner Music.
13:20Did he release a song recently?
13:22He released songs already.
13:23Sí, ¿verdad?
13:24He's already an artist.
13:24Yeah.
13:25He's starting to come up.
13:26Mm-hmm.
13:27But the album that he's dropping
13:28has a lot of good collabs.
13:29Okay.
13:30So for me,
13:31it's like,
13:31Are you also a collab?
13:32I'm a collab on his album,
13:33of course.
13:35Perdón si quemé tu disco, wey.
13:36Pero yo,
13:36I'm a collab on his album.
13:37Mm-hmm.
13:38Jonathan Caro.
13:39Mm-hmm.
13:40Now he has,
13:41so Jonathan,
13:41Armenta's took him a little harder.
13:42It's been a little more,
13:43like,
13:44some people got more bumpy roads than others,
13:45you know?
13:46Like,
13:46now I see his album,
13:47now I see the collabs,
13:48and I see that,
13:49like,
13:50it gets me happy,
13:51you know?
13:51But Caro,
13:52on the other hand,
13:53he's,
13:54the first song he wrote was Sabor Fresa.
13:55Okay.
13:56Jonathan Caro.
13:57Sí, okay.
13:57And from there,
13:58he goes on.
13:59Like,
14:00he wrote a lot of songs that everyone loves.
14:01And those are hits, man.
14:02Sabor Fresa's a hit.
14:02Just look them up.
14:03Look up Jonathan Caro,
14:04you'll see the songs he wrote.
14:05Now he got two bangers.
14:06He got one with me,
14:07I put him on my album,
14:08called Polvo Blanco.
14:08Mm-hmm.
14:09Another artist.
14:10Pero se refiere al polvo del talco,
14:11verdad?
14:12Sí, whatever.
14:13Yeah.
14:13We do have a lot of knowledge,
14:14and I think our record label,
14:15and our hard work shows for it,
14:16you know what I'm saying?
14:17Mm-hmm.
14:18No,
14:18totalmente,
14:19the songs that your artists are a part of,
14:20have,
14:21like,
14:22been in the hot 100s,
14:23you know?
14:23So that,
14:24that already testifies,
14:25the success,
14:26Favorite, like,
14:27Yeah, what is your favorite part?
14:28That,
14:29I could be creative,
14:29on,
14:30something else,
14:31that's not mine.
14:32Okay.
14:33And see it grow.
14:34Yeah.
14:34Sometimes I like to be behind the scenes too,
14:35like,
14:36just,
14:37look at the credits,
14:38like,
14:39I wrote that song too,
14:39you know?
