00:00Good morning from Skegness Grammar School. It's A-Levels Day and as you can see in the
00:08distance there are some eager students getting their results. I'm with Jude Hunton who's
00:16the Headmaster of the Grammar School. Now, nationally they are saying that there's an
00:22expectation that results are falling back to pre-pandemic levels but students shouldn't
00:28be too concerned because universities are looking to recruit to boost their finances.
00:35How are things looking in Skegness? Well, good morning. Thank you for asking me. It's
00:40one of the best days of the year. We're really thrilled to be able to share with so many
00:44bright young people their wonderful news today. You can probably see behind me we've got lots
00:49of excitement in our main hall. Yep, loads of young people have arrived to collect their
00:56envelope to have a look inside and we've got lots of very happy parents, very happy
01:01young people and it's a really joyous day. So how are the results? Would you say that
01:07they've fallen this year? We're quite fortunate here in that they've actually increased in
01:13terms of the school's performance, in terms of the young people here. I think nationally
01:18I have heard some of the stories that you referred to before about young people feeling
01:24under a little bit more pressure to achieve those top grades but we're really pleased
01:29at the Grammar School that we've seen a lot of young people achieve highly and our sixth
01:34form team today are making sure that everybody gets to the right destination, the one that
01:39they've picked. We've got lots of young people who are heading off to brilliant bright futures,
01:44top universities and it's, as I say, it's just one of the happiest days of the year
01:50for everybody who works in a school. I know, it's certainly one that we love to come and
01:54cover. So we do have a student here who has been very brave, sort of on this quite emotional
02:03day to speak to us. Now, how have you done? I've got three A's. Congratulations, I mean
02:10were you expecting to do so well? No. So has it been tough? What have you got your A's
02:17in? Biology, Chemistry and Religious Studies. Okay, so what are you hoping to do with those?
02:24Certainly Medicine. And have you got into your university? Where are you going to be
02:30going? Liverpool. Oh well, congratulations and every success in the future. Now, behind
02:39every student there is probably a family who have been there over all the nights of revision
02:46and the days of revision and the worries. How has it been for you? You must be really proud.
02:52I'm so proud. I mean the fact that she's even got into Vet Medicine, only 50% of students
02:57actually get in, that apply and they're all A-star students, they're all A-grade students
03:02and she got into a Russell group, Liverpool's ranked third in the country I think, so yeah,
03:07I can't explain. So you're going to be beyond proud. Oh, I'm so, so proud. And have you
03:12got animals at home that are going to benefit from this? Yes, we've got five dogs, a tortoise,
03:17two chinchillas. Oh well, so you won't have to worry about your vet fees in the future
03:24will you? No, I'm hoping I'll get free vet fees. If she says not, she'll just give me
03:28a discount. Oh well, yeah, that's the side of a good business woman. Yeah, I'm sure Mr
03:33Hunton will be very, very pleased to hear that. Okay, well thank you very much for speaking
03:38to us today. Thank you. Right, so I'm sure that we'll go off and speak to a few more
03:43students. All the results will be on the Lincolnshire World website later today with more comments
03:49from students. So thank you for joining us this morning.
