00:00Sir, tell us how did it start?
00:13Because it's your first album, and you're really into music.
00:17Then why all of a sudden you decided to come up with an album?
00:21Because I've been writing songs ever since then.
00:23With a guitar and a piano.
00:26But the past years when I got into music,
00:31I was being on the safe side, always doing covers.
00:36It's very personal when you make songs.
00:42So it took a lot of time for me to just say,
00:47let's just put it out there.
00:50I'm glad that there are people who appreciate it.
00:54Because they're not necessarily biographical.
00:57Some are, some aren't.
00:59But they're all deeply personal.
01:02How did you assemble the team behind the recording?
01:07Your band?
01:08I met my guitarist and producer, John Poa.
01:13He told him to spearhead, to lead the recordings.
01:18And then he got Eko, the bassist, and Bajau,
01:24former 4F Spades.
01:26And then in a studio.
01:29When I got there, we all met up.
01:33The chemistry was great.
01:36I think we all share the same taste in music.
01:40And the topics of the songs and stuff.
01:45Sometimes, we just start and record stuff from nowhere.
01:52Like last night, we finished at 4AM.
01:56Because last night, I met up with Ten in the studio.
02:00I brought them to the studio.
02:02Then I told him, let's do this.
02:05He said, what?
02:07Nothing, I don't know.
02:09Just make something.
02:10And I said, John, start the bass.
02:12Start the drums.
02:13And then, I was starting to write lyrics and stuff.
02:17We put it all together before sunrise.
02:20We had a complete song, and we were so happy.
02:23And that always happens.
02:25Sometimes, I have a lot of songs.
02:29In the morning, when the songs arrive,
02:32I'm drinking coffee, playing the guitar.
02:34Then I record it on my phone.
02:37Sometimes, when they come to the studio,
02:39I'm the only one listening to them.
02:41Then we make something out of it.
02:43But yeah, there are magical moments like last night.
02:47I don't even know where I got those lyrics from.
02:50I don't even know where they get their chords from.
02:54We all, similarly,
02:57we all listen to the same song at the same time.
03:00In the studio, and then it all comes together.
03:04I appreciate that.
03:05I like doing that.
03:07It's not just you.
03:10There's a certain harmony and chemistry that happens
03:14that I think is magical.
03:16So writing your own song, of course, that's up to you.
03:18Your ideas and everything.
03:20But what's the most challenging part of collaborating,
03:24shaping the song?
03:27Actually, now it's become very easy
03:29as compared to what I've been doing before.
03:33Before, when I released singles,
03:35we're all alone, there's Nuno,
03:38I miss you the most.
03:42Before, it was a bit more...
03:47It's the efficient way of recording,
03:49which is the normal way.
03:51You record it, then you make an arrangement,
03:53then when the arrangement comes, you bring it to the studio,
03:56then every band member will play tracks.
03:58But there's no input.
04:00It just becomes a mechanical thing.
04:02Unlike now, what we're doing, from nothing.
04:06So it becomes a very collaborative experience.
04:09Sometimes, my drummer argues with the guitarist.
04:12He says,
04:13the metronome should be like this.
04:15I tell him,
04:16no, it should be like this.
04:18Later, he'll ask me,
04:19I'll be here.
04:20I'll be here.
04:21I think we need an acoustic in the bass,
04:24at the bottom,
04:25something like that.
04:26So the process is very enjoyable.
04:29Actually, it's not a cerebral thing.
04:31You can't interpret it.
04:33I think any art form,
04:34you can't interpret it using logic
04:36and analytical thinking.
04:38Because it's usually from the emotions.
04:41And what comes out, comes out.
04:43And that's what we're going for.
04:45Sir, how does it feel when the songs come out?
04:49Exciting,
04:50because I have no idea if anyone would appreciate it.
04:54But that's what I do.
04:57I listen to it.
04:59It's what my heart desires.
05:03And if someone likes the song,
05:10they can use it for their moving on.
05:13There are other songs that are not released yet.
05:15It's almost meditative,
05:17the feeling of the song.
05:20When they play it,
05:21it helps them for whatever reason.
05:23Just to give you peace of mind,
05:24to relax you,
05:26to inspire you,
05:27I hope.
05:28Even if it's just one person,
05:30I'd be really so happy.
05:32Because the process itself,
05:34for me,
05:35it's its own reward.
05:38Even if I lose all the reward,
05:43I'm happy.
05:45I'm happy with the time,
05:47the money,
05:48the effort that we've spent
05:49making this happen.
05:52Hello, Pepsters!
