00:00Once upon a time, there was a little old man and a little old woman who lived in a nice little old cottage in the forest.
00:10They loved each other very, very much, but they didn't have any children and were terribly lonely.
00:20I've been feeling so lonely.
00:25I wish we could have some company for a change.
00:29But you know, we live out here in the middle of nowhere.
00:33There's nobody to visit for us for miles and miles.
00:38Suddenly, the little old woman had an idea.
00:42I know! I'm going to bake us a gingerbread man!
00:49I know! I'm going to bake us a gingerbread man!
00:55The little old man was very confused.
00:58A gingerbread man! How on earth will he keep us company?
01:03You'll see when I finish.
01:06The little old woman could hardly wait for the gingerbread man to be ready.
01:11As she placed the gingerbread man down on the counter, she felt a little less lonely.
01:19Imagine her surprise when she held the gingerbread man and saw that it came to life.
01:26You're really going to be good company for us.
01:30But the gingerbread man didn't want to stay and live in a little old cottage.
01:35What he wanted was to explore the world.
01:39As he leapt up to the window, the little old woman called after him.
01:44Wait! Where do you think you're going?
01:48I'm going to try to have some fun.
01:51Hearing the noise, the little old man came into the kitchen.
01:56What's going on here?
01:58The gingerbread man says he's going to leave us, so we'll be lonely all over again.
02:05The little old man didn't like to see his wife upset,
02:09and he hobbled over to the window to catch the gingerbread man.
02:14Get back here!
02:16But the gingerbread man jumped out of the window.
02:20As he ran away, he shouted,
02:22Run, run, run, as fast as you can! You can't catch me! I'm the gingerbread man!
02:29The little old man tried his best to keep up,
02:33but the gingerbread man was way too fast for him.
02:40The gingerbread man kept running until he reached the countryside.
02:44Very nice. I think I'm going to like living here.
02:48So he decided to explore a nearby field.
02:52The gingerbread man was whistling as he walked around the area.
02:58Then, all of a sudden, a big cow appeared and began talking to him.
03:04What are you doing right here in my field, little man?
03:10The gingerbread man didn't think it was anyone's field.
03:14I go wherever I like.
03:16Is that so?
03:18The cow put his nose in the air and sniffed.
03:22Well, you smell really delicious.
03:26And here, I'm used to eating whatever I like.
03:31The cow leapt forward to take a bite out of the gingerbread man.
03:35But the gingerbread man quickly jumped out of the way and began to run.
03:40As the gingerbread man ran away, he shouted,
03:43Run, run, run, as fast as you can! You can't catch me! I'm the gingerbread man!
03:49The cow chased him for a while, but soon was out of breath.
03:55After walking a bit further, the gingerbread man came to a farmyard with a stable.
04:02So he decided to explore.
04:06Suddenly, a horse poked his head over the side of the stable door and began talking to him.
04:13Who are you?
04:15Haven't you heard about me? I'm the gingerbread man!
04:21Does that mean that you're all made out of gingerbread?
04:26Of course it does!
04:28The horse threw back his head and neighed.
04:32And I love gingerbread!
04:36Without warning, the horse turned and kicked open the stable doors,
04:41sending the gingerbread man crashing to the floor.
04:44The gingerbread man got up as fast as he could and began to run away.
04:48The horse began to chase him.
04:51Come back here, gingerbread! I'm very hungry!
04:56As the gingerbread man ran away, he shouted,
04:59Run, run, run, as fast as you can! You can't catch me! I'm the gingerbread man!
05:06The gingerbread man reached the edge of the paddock and ran across a road,
05:11nearly getting hit by a tractor.
05:14The horse shouted after him.
05:16Wow, you're extremely lucky, Mr. Gingerbread Man!
05:21The gingerbread man climbed through a hedge on the other side of the road
05:25and paused to catch his breath.
05:28Then he mopped his little gingerbread brow with his little gingerbread hand.
05:34Maybe I should have stayed with the little old man and woman.
05:39All of a sudden, from the hedgerow, a hare appeared and began talking to him.
05:45Oh, look! It's a gingerbread man!
05:49You would feed my family for a whole week.
05:52Come a little closer so I can get a good look at you.
05:56But the gingerbread man didn't like the sound of that,
06:00and he began to run again.
06:04As the gingerbread man ran away, he shouted,
06:08Run, run, run, as fast as you can! You can't catch me! I'm the gingerbread man!
06:15The gingerbread man was very fast.
06:19But the hare was fast, too.
06:22He got closer and closer to the gingerbread man with every step.
06:27So the gingerbread man ran into a nearby forest to try to hide from him.
06:33But the hare soon sniffed him out, and the gingerbread man had to run again.
06:39He ran as fast as his little legs would carry him,
06:43until he came to a fast-flowing river.
06:47Oh, boy! How's a little gingerbread man like me meant to cross a river?
06:52If I try to swim, I am surely going to melt.
06:56As he thought about what to do, a fox suddenly appeared and began talking to him.
07:02Why don't you jump on my tail, and I'll swim across the river.
07:06You'll arrive on the other side perfectly safe and dry.
07:10The gingerbread man scratched his chin and thought about the fox's offer.
07:15Don't you want to have me for lunch?
07:18To have you for lunch? No! I'm just trying to save you from the hare over there.
07:25The gingerbread man looked back and could see that the hare was getting closer to them.
07:31Okay, great! So please take me to the other side of the river.
07:35The gingerbread man grabbed hold of the fox's tail and climbed on.
07:41The fox walked into the river and began swimming to the other side.
07:46When they had swam a little way, the fox turned his head and spoke to the gingerbread man.
07:52You're a little heavy for my tail. Why don't you climb up onto my back? Do it, please.
08:00Okay, of course.
08:02The gingerbread man climbed up from the fox's tail until he reached his back.
08:06Is that better?
08:08Much better.
08:10The fox kept swimming until he was halfway across the river.
08:14Once again, he turned and spoke to the gingerbread man.
08:18Oh, you're getting a little heavy for my back. Would you mind riding on my nose instead?
08:25Not at all. I can do that.
08:28The gingerbread man climbed up onto the fox's back, over his head, and sat on his nose.
08:35Finally, they reached the other side of the river.
08:39The gingerbread man looked back at the hare, who was still waiting on the other side of the river.
08:46I told you you can't catch me!
08:48That's right. And it's all thanks to me.
08:52The gingerbread man was very grateful to the fox.
08:56Thank you very much, Mr. Fox. You can put me down now.
09:01But the fox didn't put the gingerbread man down.
09:05Instead, he threw his head back, sending the gingerbread man high into the air.
09:11The fox then opened his mouth very wide.
09:15You can't catch me! I'm the...
09:18The gingerbread man landed in the fox's mouth and was eaten all up.
09:23The gingerbread man? Yes, I know. And he was a very delicious gingerbread.
09:32Unfortunately, the gingerbread man ended up learning a very valuable lesson.
09:38We must be very careful with everyone we trust, especially if they're as cunning as an old fox.
