00:00Transport is a very big department.
00:08We're responsible for over $200 billion worth of assets in the state,
00:13and that includes our state road networks.
00:16We're responsible for all of the public transport services,
00:19so that's all your bus services, all your train and all your ferry services.
00:26Climate change will be a big impact for transport.
00:31For us to plan for the future and build resilience into our transport systems,
00:36it's important for us to understand how these future extreme weather events
00:40will change under climate change.
00:43When the temperatures are above about 40 degrees,
00:46we need to have slow running on sections of our rail network
00:49to manage the risk of derailment.
00:51NARCLIM is the NSW and Australian regional climate model.
00:55It's the finest resolution climate modelling ever made available
00:59for states and territories in Australia.
01:02NARCLIM data will allow us to plan for those future extreme weather events.
01:06We're planning ahead with an asset life of 80 to 100 plus years,
01:11and we need climate information and climate projections
01:14to help inform how we plan for that.
01:17Designing bridges so that either they stay out of floodwaters
01:21or can come back into service and recover quickly
01:24is all about maintaining connectivity and mobility
01:27for the community and businesses.
01:30NARCLIM provides us with 150 years of continual modelling
01:35of the NSW climate.
01:37That kind of long-term thinking and strategic planning
01:40helps in integrating climate into decision making,
01:43and the NARCLIM projections are an essential input
01:46for all of those climate risk assessments.
01:49Ensuring that our cities are resilient under future climate
01:53means that we have to have the best available information
01:55to help us guide our transport planning.
01:58We're making cutting-edge climate research available to everyone.
