00:00Emily in Paris has returned with season 4 after a year and a half and it followed on
00:04from the wedding that didn't go ahead between Gabrielle and Camille.
00:08Set 3 days after the dramatic ending where we also found out that Gabrielle was going
00:12to be a father and Dalphie walked away from Emily,
00:15drama was going to be at the centre of this first part of season 4.
00:19With a dramatic ending to these 5 episodes,
00:21just as it looked like everything was finally going to be okay for Emily,
00:25let's delve into the show and break down all that there was to take away from it.
00:29Here is Emily in Paris Season 4 Part 1 Ending Explained
00:33Just to let you know, this video will contain spoilers.
00:37The Ending Explained
00:38This season was centred around the decision that Emily had to make between Alphie and Gabrielle
00:43and during the masquerade ball, she made the decision to be with the person that she
00:47always felt like she was more in love with and that was Gabrielle.
00:51This was something that although she wanted, Camille living with Gabrielle along with
00:55Sophia in his apartment due to the fact that he was expecting her baby was proving to be
01:00difficult, especially with them reminiscing over old times and Emily feeling like a spare
01:04part at some points.
01:06However, she snitched to the property owner about there being 3 people in the apartment
01:10and it meant that Camille and Sophia had to move across the hall into a vacant one,
01:14showing that it seemed like there was no way that Gabrielle and Camille would be able to
01:18be separate, something which bothered both Emily and Sophia.
01:21With the final episode being titled, once translated into English, Deceives the Eye,
01:26that very much suited the theme of the finale and it feels like that will be continuing
01:31into season 4 part 2.
01:32It started with Luke's partner Marion being found out that she wasn't actually able
01:36to give out Michelin stars and that Gabrielle wasn't actually any closer to getting a
01:41star, but it ultimately concluded with Camille finding out that she wasn't in fact pregnant
01:46and that she saw a false positive test when she took one.
01:49Even once finding out the truth, she didn't reveal it to Gabrielle, declining a glass
01:53of wine when she was with him and stating that it was because of the baby.
01:57I feel she did this because she may have realised that without the prospect of a baby being
02:01on the horizon, then Gabrielle would be out of her life for good.
02:05Sophia left her because she wanted a life in Athens that wasn't so close to Gabrielle.
02:09Camille left Gabrielle at the altar at the end of season 3 and he'd now moved on and
02:13was ready to be with Emily, being happy and starting a new life for himself with her.
02:18The both of them even admitted that they loved one another after all of this time and
02:22they were happy in the street whilst Camille was in tears overlooking it, so her life was
02:27starting to unravel and the only way to keep it all together was for her to lie and for
02:31her to deceive the eye of Gabrielle.
02:33I think this could end up being the very thing that might cause Gabrielle and Emily to go
02:38through some turbulence in part 2 because Camille will most likely be going along with
02:42the lie still, pretending to be pregnant and demanding more attention from him, ultimately
02:47pulling him away from Emily.
02:49If Camille wanted to, she could now go to Athens and be with Sophia, but it seems like
02:53maybe she's even questioning if she wants to be with her.
02:56She said her life was in Paris and I feel she'd rather stay in Paris and be with Gabrielle.
03:01With regards to Emily at the ending, everything was pretty much perfect for her.
03:05She was helping the agency gain more clients and her life was relatively drama free as
03:09she chose to be with Gabrielle.
03:11The only time there was drama was when she had to decide whether it was Gabrielle or
03:15Alfie that she wanted to be with and I feel like she probably went about letting Alfie
03:19down in a bit of a poor way as they didn't speak for the rest of the season.
03:23With all of the breaking news in this season surrounding Nikolai's father Louis being
03:27exposed for being inappropriate with the women at JVMA in order to give them promotions,
03:32we saw that take a toll on Mindy's relationship with Nikolai.
03:35With Mindy singing with Benoit, it seemed like there might be a romantic spark blossoming
03:39between the both of them in the next part of the season.
03:42Benoit gave her a look that seemed like there were feelings involved and with Luke also
03:46saying that the chemistry that he saw can't be faked.
03:49I think there's going to be a love triangle forming there and Mindy is going to have to
03:53decide.
03:54Gabrielle and Emily's relationship is most likely going to be put to the test too and
03:58following the season 4 part 2 teaser trailer that we all got at the end of the season,
04:03there might well be a new man that enters the picture, Marcello.
04:06So a love triangle could be the overall theme of part 2.
04:09Gabrielle left Emily at the top of the mountain and went after Camille so Gabrielle might
04:13need to realise what he's got in front of him before he ends up losing it yet again.
04:18My review of season 4 part 1.
04:21I thought the first part of this season was pretty good, I'd say the pacing of it felt
04:25a little bit rushed though.
04:26I'm guessing that's because they needed to find a way of getting a cliffhanger in
04:30there at the end of episode 5 rather than there being a usual 10 episode structure with
04:34an ending that leaves us on the edge of our seat so there wasn't as much room to breathe
04:38in this season.
04:40I feel that's probably why Emily went from Alfie to Gabrielle so quickly.
04:43I found it kind of strange that in the first two episodes she was besotted with Alfie and
04:48wanted to get back with him and then when the opportunity arose she chose Gabrielle
04:52and then we didn't see Alfie at all for the remainder of the season.
04:55So it does actually make me question if he's even going to be in season 4 part 2.
05:00Whilst Emily, Gabrielle and Camille were the main focus of these 5 episodes, I would say
05:04that the supporting cast did take more of a backseat than usual.
05:08I feel like we didn't really get to see Julian that much or even Mindy when it came
05:11to them actually having their own plots developing.
05:14I thought we'd see more of Mindy and her journey to the Eurovision Song Contest because
05:18that was made a large deal of at the end of season 3 so I'm hoping that we're going
05:22to be seeing more of that when the show returns for season 4 part 2.
05:26Luke is probably one of my favourite characters in the show.
05:29His comedic timing is perfect, his personality is so different to everybody else and he's
05:33one of the only characters that actually makes me laugh out loud with the things that
05:37he says.
05:38The soundtrack in this show is something that I also feel really does support the episodes
05:42and the scenes that we watch.
05:44The choice of music is often reflective of what we watch unfold and it allows the emotion
05:48to pour out and for us to feel exactly what the director wanted us to.
05:52One story that I feel suffered due to the pacing of the 5 episodes was the exposing
05:56of Louis and his behaviour and how it impacted Sylvie.
06:00It took Sylvie a lot of courage to speak to the reporter and for her side of the story
06:03to be revealed and whilst it did get a focus, I feel the weight of what she actually did
06:08didn't get the emphasis and focus that it should have.
06:11Something which I thought was a shame.
06:13I also feel as though there wasn't much depth to the story outside of Emily just being
06:17with Gabrielle.
06:18Even the issues that she had at work were resolved quite quickly and there was never
06:22a threat to her job or like there was any long lasting effect so the plot was rather
06:26thin at points.
06:28In terms of the cast I thought they all delivered strong performances.
06:31Lily Collins as Emily is a character that we've grown to care about over the past
06:34few years and that was the same in this season as well.
06:38All of the cast picked up the characters from where they left off at season 3 and were convincing
06:42in their roles and the emotions that they delivered.
06:44Overall I thought this season was good, I just think it had some pacing issues with
06:48the way that the story was told but ultimately that's because of the 5 episode structure
06:53that they had rather than the 10 so I'm hoping it will redeem itself when it returns
06:57and that could change.
06:59Other than that I thought it stayed true to what we'd seen in the previous 3 seasons
07:02and it was nice to see the familiar characters on screen after all this time had passed by.
07:07Season 4 part 2 airs on the 12th of September so there's not too long of a wait which
07:12isn't the end of the world.
07:13It makes you think though doesn't it, why didn't they just release it all in one go,
07:17it would have made it so much easier.
