When a plane explodes in the air with no survivors, the unfaithful Lisa Baumer is informed that her husband, businessman Baumer, left a one-million-dollar insurance policy and she is the beneficiary. She travels from London to Athens to receive the payment in cash and then to travel to Greece to meet her lover. Meanwhile, the insurance company suspects that a bomb might be planted in the plane and assigns their investigator Peter Lynch to investigate the widow in Greece. Soon she is threatened by Baumer's lover Lara Florakis and her bodyguard Sharif, but Peter protects and rescues her from the attackers. When the front desk calls Lisa to take the taxi to the airport, they discover that she was murdered, and the money has vanished. Soon local Police Inspector Stavros, Interpol Agent John Stanley and the French Investigative Reporter Cléo Dupont, who is having an affair with Peter, investigate the case where Peter is the prime suspect.

00:05:13Thank you.
00:05:30Yes?
00:05:31Mr. Brenton, Mrs. Balmer's here to see you.
00:05:33Fine, show her in, would you?
00:05:39Madam.
00:05:43Good morning, Mrs. Balmer. I'm Mr. Brenton.
00:05:45Morning.
00:05:46Won't you sit down?
00:05:51I do hope, Mrs. Balmer, that you're well now.
00:05:54Yes.
00:05:55Good.
00:05:56Now, you told me where you were going.
00:05:58Now, you told me when I called you that you were unaware of the existence
00:06:01of any insurance policy of your husband's in your favor.
00:06:05You'll forgive me if I say so, but I find that rather odd, Mrs. Balmer.
00:06:08My husband and I had been more or less separated.
00:06:11I know.
00:06:12Your poor husband traveled a great deal.
00:06:15He went often to Athens.
00:06:18You see, his head office was there.
00:06:21Don't judge me too badly. He was much older than me.
00:06:24The policy is in your favor in the amount of one million dollars.
00:06:27A million dollars?
00:06:29That's right. Almost 400,000 pounds sterling.
00:06:34You're saying that I'm the beneficiary of a million dollars?
00:06:36Exactly.
00:06:37Our office in Athens will have everything ready for you within a fortnight.
00:06:41And it'll be necessary for you to go there in person to collect your money.
00:06:45That's all, Mrs. Balmer.
00:06:49Well, on behalf of my company, I would like to offer our condolences
00:06:52for the loss of your husband.
00:06:54That's most kind of you.
00:06:56Goodbye.
00:07:02Get me Peter Lynch on the private phone.
00:07:22I'm sorry.
00:07:47Hello. I've just been there.
00:07:50No, not for a few days yet.
00:07:53I cashed the policy in Athens.
00:07:59But I go tomorrow.
00:08:01It's for us, if... No, somewhere else.
00:08:06That place where we used to meet.
00:08:08Meet me there, then. Bye, darling.
00:08:20Bye.
00:09:21Philip, let go of me. Leave me alone.
00:09:24What else do you want from me?
00:09:26Don't you worry, Lisa. I don't want any part of you.
00:09:29You destroyed whatever love I had in me.
00:09:31You can deceive somebody else now.
00:09:34Oh, then why are you bothering me now?
00:09:37And look what's become of you two.
00:09:40I was doing all right before I met you, Lisa.
00:09:43No ulcer, acid.
00:09:45Me mind still clicks, though.
00:09:47I've been thinking about the two of us.
00:09:49I could ruin you.
00:09:51And why should I be afraid of you?
00:09:53I got the proof that you wanted to be rid of your husband.
00:09:57Have you forgotten what you wrote to me?
00:09:59I've still got your letter.
00:10:00What I wrote you never mentioned killing.
00:10:02Reading it today, the police might start thinking.
00:10:05Now we have a plane accident and your husband's body's missing, eh?
00:10:09And there's a nice bundle of life insurance in your favour.
00:10:13And there's a nice bundle of life insurance in your favour.
00:10:16Then go to the police.
00:10:18Why fight it?
00:10:20Is it worth the risk?
00:10:23All right, how much will it cost?
00:10:25The cost of travel's gone up.
00:10:27I'll need three fixes a day.
00:10:29And prices are rising.
00:10:34Here's a hundred pounds.
00:10:37You'll get another hundred when I get the letter.
00:10:40I said that's all I had.
00:10:42The rest'll have to wait.
00:10:45Five hundred pounds more.
00:10:47Then I promise you, you won't ever hear from your old friend Philip again.
00:11:39Oh, God.
00:12:09Oh, God.
00:12:39Oh, God.
00:13:00Lisa.
00:13:02The letter.
00:13:04It was a man.
00:13:09Oh, God.
00:13:39Oh, God.
00:14:09Oh, God.
00:14:34How do you matter, madame?
00:14:37You have a reservation for Lisa Balmer.
00:14:40Yes, Miss Balmer.
00:14:42Please sign here.
00:14:48Here we are, sir, room 425.
00:14:50Would you sign in, please?
00:14:52Boy, please.
00:14:54Thank you.
00:15:06Thank you.
00:15:29Will you allow me?
00:15:33Would you mind if I joined you?
00:15:35Please do.
00:15:36Thank you.
00:15:39You know, I have a feeling it was destiny that brought me in here to meet you tonight.
00:15:43Ah, more than destiny, I would say it was your profession, Mr. Lynch.
00:15:48I hear you're an investigator for Insurance International.
00:15:51I believe that you mean to investigate me.
00:15:54Isn't that right?
00:15:57Oh, today nobody has any privacy anymore.
00:16:00I should have known.
00:16:02Yes.
00:16:03All right, Dimitri.
00:16:04Please, this way.
00:16:06No.
00:16:17You're mistaken about me.
00:16:19I might have deceived my husband, but I didn't kill him.
00:16:22Miss Balmer, message for you.
00:16:33I must leave you now.
00:16:35Oh, don't get up.
00:16:55Taxi?
00:16:56Yes, thank you.
00:17:02Taxi!
00:17:32Taxi!
00:18:02Taxi!
00:18:32Taxi!
00:18:48I trust the setting I've chosen doesn't bother you.
00:18:52But it is most apropos to play a farce.
00:18:55Or play a tragedy.
00:18:57Wouldn't you say so?
00:18:59Are you Lara?
00:19:01Sit down.
00:19:02See here, I'm not in the habit of socializing with my late husband's mistresses.
00:19:06So why don't you get to the point and don't waste my time.
00:19:08That depends on you.
00:19:10Yes.
00:19:12Sharif, look who we have.
00:19:14This is Mrs. Balmer, Kurt's widow.
00:19:17Sharif is my lawyer.
00:19:18I asked him to be present.
00:19:19I hope you don't mind.
00:19:21I mind, but what do you want to talk about?
00:19:23I'll give it to you straight and I won't mince words.
00:19:26We knew that when you showed up here you were going to collect on Kurt's life.
00:19:29A million dollars.
00:19:32Only if that investigator doesn't go too far.
00:19:35Just what do you want?
00:19:37I want half of that life insurance of yours.
00:19:40That's enough.
00:19:42I don't have to listen to that.
00:19:43You'll listen Mrs. Balmer, there's a lot more.
00:19:47Kurt and I were going to be married.
00:19:49And he was going to change the beneficiary of that policy.
00:19:52You knew that, that's why you killed him.
00:19:55And I have the proof that I want.
00:19:57You're mad, the insurance money is mine and no court in the world would give you any right to it.
00:20:01Don't bet on it.
00:20:03We have other ways of persuading you, don't we Sharif?
00:20:07Hmm.
00:20:08So Mrs. Balmer, I'd make a deal if I were you.
00:20:12A beautiful girl's body can change overnight.
00:20:15And a pretty face.
00:20:17What if those were gone?
00:20:19And what use would your money be then?
00:20:22You, you, you wouldn't.
00:20:24Oh, I wouldn't?
00:20:25Of course there's really no need for violence, I could simply denounce you.
00:20:28Then the authorities will want to know more and your pretty murder plan, Mrs. Balmer, is all shot.
00:20:33All shot.
00:20:34Well now, there's still one way that you can avoid that.
00:20:37If you play your cards just right and you're prepared to be generous, okay.
00:20:42Otherwise you'll force us to talk.
00:20:44Now, what'll it be?
00:20:47I...
00:20:50Sharif, stop her!
00:20:51Hurry!
00:20:56Oh!
00:21:17Don't let her get away!
00:21:21Well, don't tell me the play was that bad.
00:21:23Please help me.
00:21:24Sure, anything to apply.
00:21:39Come on, let's go to the police.
00:21:40No, the hotel.
00:21:50Mr. Lynch, may I ask you to forget what you saw?
00:21:53Sure, but may I explain...
00:21:54Tomorrow. Please explain tomorrow.
00:21:57Good night.
00:21:58Good night.
00:22:00And I want to thank you for all you did tonight.
00:22:08I don't like to insist, Mrs. Balmer, but it'd be safer not to cash your check in Athens.
00:22:12Can't you wait till you're in London?
00:22:15Then you can transfer it wherever you wish.
00:22:18And I repeat, I much prefer to cash it.
00:22:23Thank you.
00:22:29Will you kindly sign here, here, and here.
00:22:33Our bank will be pleased to pay your money whenever you care to drop by.
00:22:36I've already notified them.
00:22:38Thank you.
00:22:39Yes, all cash.
00:22:41All in new bills.
00:22:43700,000,
00:22:45800,000,
00:22:47900,000,
00:22:49and 1 million.
00:22:53Well, Mrs. Balmer, I believe that's all.
00:22:56Good morning.
00:23:17Wait for me here for a few minutes.
00:23:24Thank you.
00:23:36Morning.
00:23:37May I help you?
00:23:38Yes, when does the next train leave Tokyo?
00:23:44Let's see.
00:23:46Ah, here we are. There's one tonight at 9 and one at 6 a.m. tomorrow.
00:23:50I want a first class ticket. I'll be leaving tonight.
00:23:53Thank you.
00:24:10There's nobody home. The caretaker left.
00:24:12I guess you just missed him and he's gone for the day.
00:24:15Bye.
00:24:23Bye.
00:24:53Bye.
00:25:17Paolo?
00:25:18No, this is the operator. I'm trying your Tokyo call now.
00:25:20Yes, hurry, please.
00:25:21Go ahead.
00:25:22Paolo?
00:25:23Paolo!
00:25:24Hello, Lisa?
00:25:25Is that you?
00:25:26Yes, how did it go?
00:25:27All finished.
00:25:28Good.
00:25:29I'll be on the plane that leaves here at 9.
00:25:31Wonderful. Shall I meet you at the airport?
00:25:32Yes. Bye, darling.
00:25:46Could you tell me if Mrs. Balmer's come down yet?
00:25:48No, sir, but I can't call her since she asked us not to before 7.30.
00:26:10Porter?
00:26:11Yes, madam?
00:26:12I'd like you to order a taxi for 8.20. I'm leaving tonight.
00:26:15Are you checking out?
00:26:16Yes.
00:26:18Thank you.
00:26:48Paolo!
00:26:49Paolo!
00:26:50No!
00:26:51No!
00:27:08Better ring her again and tell her her taxi is here waiting for her.
00:27:18The phone doesn't answer.
00:27:21Here's my key. It carries dough.
00:27:23Thank you.
00:27:27Well, she could have gone out earlier this evening.
00:27:29Yes, perhaps, but I don't believe so.
00:27:31You see, she called on around 7 and ordered a taxi from the porter for 8.20.
00:27:35Well, let's have a look in her room.
00:27:37Come along.
00:27:48Mrs. Balmer?
00:27:55Mrs. Balmer?
00:28:02Wait here, please.
00:28:19Approximate time of death...
00:28:20Check out all the prints in the room.
00:28:22Between 7 and 7.30.
00:28:23All right, that's enough. No more photographs.
00:28:26Get a sheet over her.
00:28:30I might have been a sex maniac, all right.
00:28:33But there's also a million dollars we mustn't forget.
00:28:39From what I understand, Mr. Lynch, you seemed interested in that girl, didn't you?
00:28:43And you flew on a plane to Athens.
00:28:46I worked for the police.
00:28:49Now, do you care to answer my question?
00:28:51She was being threatened. Someone was after her.
00:28:54There was a man who tried to knife her in the back while she was in an old theater downtown.
00:28:58Hmm. Who?
00:29:00I'd like to know myself. And I'll find that man some way.
00:29:04Mrs. Balmer wouldn't tell me anything.
00:29:06There was a man who was trying to stab her in the back while she was in an old theater downtown.
00:29:10Hmm. Who?
00:29:11I'd like to know myself. And I'll find that man some way.
00:29:14There was a man who was tall, heavy-set, and a woman, a blonde, or maybe a redhead.
00:29:18I didn't have much time to observe her.
00:29:20And you don't know any more.
00:29:23Your activities yesterday, Mr. Lynch.
00:29:26I lunched at my hotel. Around 3, I placed a call to London.
00:29:29I waited an hour and a half for it in the bar.
00:29:31And who did you speak to on that long-distance call?
00:29:33To Mr. Brenton. He is the London office manager for Insurance International Limited.
00:29:38Now, what is your relationship with Brenton and Insurance International?
00:29:42That of servant to his master, I guess you could say.
00:29:45I've been working for them as an investigator for 11 years.
00:29:48I was investigating that woman to find any responsibility she could have had for that aircraft accident.
00:29:53After making your call, what followed?
00:29:55I left my hotel and went to our offices here in Athens.
00:29:58There they told me that Lisa Balmer had received a check for a million dollars.
00:30:03And that she went straight to our bank to cash it.
00:30:06Well, then, that explains your activities so far.
00:30:08Go on.
00:30:09About 5, I took a stroll in the park. I was there a couple of hours.
00:30:14Mr. Lynch, I would say your alibi would explain where you were only up to the time you went to the park.
00:30:19As an investigator, I more than agree with you.
00:30:21But then, accusing me is too easy.
00:30:23Well, let's say we can rarely judge by appearances.
00:30:26You recall your Plato, Mr. Lynch?
00:30:29Very badly.
00:30:33Well, I must ask you to come along with me.
00:30:35Haven't you finished with me by now?
00:30:37You might have told me someone tried to run over you yesterday.
00:30:41If I let you leave our country so easily, I'd be neglecting my duty.
00:30:45I wouldn't have you do that.
00:30:47Besides, I like Greece. My mother's father was from here. He lived in Patras.
00:30:51How very interesting.
00:30:53Hello, Stavros.
00:30:54Morning.
00:30:55Our people in London confirmed that Lynch is here in Athens working for Insurance International, watching Lisa Balmer.
00:31:02He's hardworking, cooperative.
00:31:04And I trust with me.
00:31:05I'll be glad to cooperate if I know who you are.
00:31:07John Stanley, I'm with Idipo.
00:31:09I've been assigned to the same case too. I hope we can work well together.
00:31:13Come on.
00:31:16Come on now.
00:31:17A lady.
00:31:19Are you going to charge me for Lynch?
00:31:21Hold on out of the way.
00:31:25Don't come in.
00:31:29Lady, please.
00:31:31Waiting for Francois.
00:31:33Lady, please.
00:31:34Before I can tell you this, I have to catch him.
00:31:41For murder, he certainly has a great face.
00:31:50You don't seem to be lacking in spirit.
00:31:52We all mask our desperation as best we can.
00:31:56You recall your Oscar Wilde.
00:31:58Who's he?
00:31:59Gentlemen, this is no time to joke.
00:32:01Now, we know Balmer's plane blew up while it was flying over the Pacific somewhere.
00:32:04There was no record, so we can't prove it was murder and we're all in the dark.
00:32:08Or maybe there was an accident.
00:32:11Besides, why did the murdered girl insist that you people pay her all that money in cash?
00:32:15And why her big hurry to plane out to Tokyo?
00:32:18And whoever robbed that million dollars, I'm sure knows what happened on that plane as well.
00:32:23You, Peter, when you went the other night to follow Mrs. Balmer,
00:32:26you said that a man was trying to kill her.
00:32:29You mentioned a woman too. They were in a theater.
00:32:32Our police are investigating those two leads.
00:32:34You at Interpol could find out who Lisa was going to see in Tokyo.
00:32:39Just before she was killed, she made a long telephone call there.
00:32:41In fact, I already checked that for you.
00:32:44The number she called was traced rather easily.
00:32:46A public one.
00:32:47So I'm afraid we'll never find out on that score.
00:32:50All right then. Find out if some friend might have left London for Tokyo.
00:33:02I gave the lady's note to Mrs. Balmer at this table.
00:33:04She was sitting with the man in this newspaper.
00:33:07Well, I'm much obliged.
00:34:51Police.
00:34:54Anyone might show me a pass like that.
00:34:57But mine's a real one.
00:35:00Well, come in.
00:35:08What do you want?
00:35:10I've been wondering just what it is that you want.
00:35:12Could it be a million dollars from Lisa Balmer?
00:35:14I never murdered anyone.
00:35:16Did I say you did?
00:35:17Do you mind if I sit down?
00:35:18Please do.
00:35:48I know you did it. You and that man murdered Lisa Balmer.
00:35:53You and your friend murdered Lisa.
00:35:55And don't pretend you don't know me because I saw you with him in that theater.
00:35:59I don't know what you're talking about.
00:36:01The hell you don't. You're lying.
00:36:02It's not a lie.
00:36:03You bet it is.
00:36:05You killed her for that million dollars, didn't you?
00:36:07Confess it.
00:36:08You're crazy. I didn't know the company had paid her yet.
00:36:10Or that she'd cashed all that money.
00:36:11And besides, I wouldn't have known that.
00:36:13Hold it.
00:36:14This sort of questioning isn't used anymore, even by the police, Peter.
00:36:18It's good you're here.
00:36:19This woman's the one where that man at the theater would try to knife me.
00:36:22He's some kind of a nut. I don't know what he's talking about.
00:36:24What theater?
00:36:26You never personally met Lisa Balmer?
00:36:28No.
00:36:29Kurt told me about her.
00:36:30We were going to get married.
00:36:32He was so busy.
00:36:33Though he wanted to change his will.
00:36:36She found out and made his plane fall.
00:36:38I was glad to hear she was murdered.
00:36:40But I wasn't the one.
00:36:42I know.
00:36:43And that man you followed wasn't the one who tried to cut my head off.
00:36:46No.
00:36:47He must have been peeling a pear when his knife slipped away.
00:36:50Now listen, Sherlock Holmes.
00:36:52I don't know who you are.
00:36:53Or who's out to get you.
00:36:55So you're not my problem, you see.
00:36:57Mr. Lynch is an investigator for the insurance company that paid the million dollars to Mrs. Balmer.
00:37:01Why don't you search the flat?
00:37:02That money's got to be here someplace.
00:37:04Or with that friend of yours who tried to kill me.
00:37:06That's Inspector Stavros' job.
00:37:09Peter, do you know why anyone would want to kill you?
00:37:13No.
00:37:15I really don't.
00:37:16I was just following you.
00:37:17I figured that sooner or later you would catch up with her.
00:37:21And you did.
00:37:23Well, whoever it was, we know now.
00:37:26He's thrown down the gauntlet of war.
00:37:39Hello?
00:37:44No.
00:37:46No, he's not here yet.
00:37:49Who is this?
00:37:51Who's calling?
00:37:53Hello?
00:38:01Hello?
00:38:03Hello?
00:38:05Hello?
00:38:07My key, please.
00:38:09Yes, sir, right away.
00:38:11Here you are, sir.
00:38:12Mr. Lynch, while you were out, a young lady came by and left this for you.
00:38:37Ah, there you are, Mr. Lynch.
00:38:39It would seem you keep yourself in practice.
00:38:42What?
00:38:43Oh, I'm sorry.
00:38:44It was a rather tasteless joke.
00:38:46May I sit down, please?
00:38:47Go ahead.
00:38:49The usual for me, thanks.
00:38:51Do you always eat in the same place?
00:38:53Why not?
00:38:54Besides, I don't lunch every day.
00:38:56Then today, it's my pleasure.
00:38:58You know, my newspaper would pay you well for an exclusive.
00:39:01Are we lunching?
00:39:02For business or for pleasure?
00:39:04Oh, we could easily do both, I'd say.
00:39:06You, I've been told, almost had your head cut off yesterday.
00:39:08Isn't that right?
00:39:10Ah, yes.
00:39:11But since I'm not actually a policeman,
00:39:13my friend Inspector Stavros won't do much about it.
00:39:16But anyway, I don't think Lisa Balmers' murderer was the one who went for you.
00:39:19Why not?
00:39:20Well, if I robbed a million dollars, I'd be very law-abiding.
00:39:24Well, maybe he's afraid of being caught.
00:39:27Oh, you might know something that could send him to the gallows.
00:39:30You know, all of the information I had on Mrs. Balmer,
00:39:32I repeated in detail at the police station.
00:39:34To clear myself.
00:39:35No, no, that wasn't it.
00:39:37It's got to be something to do with you.
00:39:39I would say something that you'd forgotten.
00:39:41A small detail.
00:39:42Or a conversation you had with someone.
00:39:45Whatever it is, the killer's afraid.
00:39:48Well, what do you think?
00:39:53I don't know.
00:39:55I don't know.
00:39:57I don't know.
00:39:59Whatever I've overlooked or can't recall,
00:40:01just could be the answer to this case.
00:40:04Why did she want that million dollars all in cash?
00:40:08Besides, who was that man whom she was supposed to meet in Tokyo?
00:40:14Just what was their relationship?
00:40:16One of her men.
00:40:18Or an accomplice.
00:40:20Or maybe her husband's not dead at all.
00:40:23But he was on that plane.
00:40:26But you're not really sure, are you?
00:40:28That's too far out.
00:40:31You know?
00:40:33You're wrong.
00:40:35You believe I'm going to follow this Balmer case
00:40:37and that I'll solve it in the end.
00:40:39Well, I'm sick of working for the dead,
00:40:40and as soon as Stavros lets me leave,
00:40:42I'll start working with a living.
00:40:44In fact, why wait?
00:40:52This is one part of the interview
00:40:54that I won't put in that story of mine.
00:41:03Oh, no.
00:41:04Look at that, Cleo.
00:41:05Oh, Peter.
00:41:07So this is how the police work in Greece now.
00:41:15But why would they do it?
00:41:17They were searching for the money.
00:41:18But why would they rip up the whole mattress?
00:41:21But don't you understand?
00:41:22The police really think I was the one
00:41:23who murdered that girl,
00:41:24and they hope to find that money
00:41:25hidden in the room somewhere.
00:41:27No, this isn't the work of the police.
00:41:28No?
00:41:29They've torn the whole room up,
00:41:30as if they hated everything.
00:41:31Look at these curtains.
00:41:33What could one hide inside that?
00:41:34Why, it's all completely torn.
00:41:36You're changing rooms.
00:41:38Besides, darling, the bed was squeaky.
00:41:40I trust you'll like this room, sir.
00:41:42That's all right.
00:41:43I'll take care of the clothes.
00:41:44Thank you.
00:41:45All right.
00:41:46Sir, we would like to express our...
00:41:47Express it tomorrow.
00:41:48Well, if there's anything you want, just ring.
00:41:49Good night.
00:41:51From the way things have been going for me lately,
00:41:53I've got a feeling just changing rooms
00:41:54isn't going to help much.
00:41:56I'd better change hotels, country, job.
00:41:59Well, life is a gamble, as they say.
00:42:01Like love.
00:42:04There are those who win,
00:42:05though more often we lose.
00:42:07And you?
00:42:08You play to win?
00:42:09I have nothing to lose.
00:42:15A woman can lose her heart.
00:42:18What about me?
00:42:20Let's play together.
00:42:22We might both win.
00:42:24I always prefer to put gambling before everything else.
00:42:36It's gotten us nowhere,
00:42:37not even killing that junkie in London.
00:42:39We should have acted faster with that bomber woman.
00:42:41Someone got to her before we could.
00:42:43I was sure that it was that Englishman
00:42:44who murdered her and stole the money.
00:42:45I don't think so.
00:42:46We seem to have guessed wrong again.
00:42:47I know, I know.
00:42:48I'll meet you tomorrow at the usual place.
00:42:51All right, good night.
00:43:18Good night.
00:43:48Good night.
00:44:18Good night.
00:44:48Who's there?
00:44:49Who is it?
00:45:18Oh!
00:45:49Oh!
00:46:09Hello?
00:46:10Sheriff, hurry here, right away.
00:46:12Someone's trying to break down the door.
00:46:14Please, hurry.
00:46:16I'll be right over.
00:46:19Thank you.
00:46:20Thank you.
00:46:47No!
00:46:48No!
00:46:49No!
00:47:18No!
00:47:48No!
00:48:18No!
00:48:48No!
00:49:18No!
00:49:46Yes?
00:49:47This is she.
00:49:49What?
00:49:50Another one?
00:49:51Who are you speaking to?
00:49:53I'll be there.
00:49:55Well, I just forgot to tell you.
00:49:57Because I didn't plan to be here all night.
00:49:59Yes, I'm on my way.
00:50:02My office.
00:50:03There was another killing tonight.
00:50:05They think the murderer was the same one
00:50:07who killed Lisa Balmer.
00:50:10But why does Lisa Balmer tie in?
00:50:11I don't know.
00:50:12It didn't go into details.
00:50:13Sorry to go,
00:50:14but they're always looking for an excuse to fire a girl.
00:50:17The night man's always complaining
00:50:18that covering riots and murders isn't work for a woman.
00:50:22The bureau chief likes me, though.
00:50:25Did they tell you who the victim was?
00:50:26Yes, Laura Fratis.
00:50:28Or was it Florakis?
00:50:30So long.
00:50:36Here are the results of the autopsies.
00:50:38Lisa Balmer, abdominal puncture and cut
00:50:40to the depth of the peritoneum
00:50:41and extending from the left of the umbilicus
00:50:43to the ziphisternum.
00:50:46A cut in the form of an S
00:50:47on the anterior left portion of the victim's neck.
00:50:50Laura Florakis.
00:50:52Abdominal wound similar to the other victims.
00:50:54A deep incision at the base of the neck
00:50:56approximately the same as the one shown before.
00:51:00Abad Sharif.
00:51:02Cut on posterior of right leg
00:51:03in the area of the malleolus.
00:51:07Cut on both hands at the metacorpus
00:51:09below the last four phalanges.
00:51:11All right.
00:51:13Thank you.
00:51:15That'll be all.
00:51:19I believe we're dealing with an expert professional.
00:51:22Rarely have I seen such meticulous work.
00:51:24Well?
00:51:27You were investigating that girl.
00:51:31Doesn't Interpol have an opinion?
00:51:33Hmm.
00:51:35I don't believe that catching the murderer of those people
00:51:37is the job of Interpol.
00:51:40In my opinion,
00:51:41the murderer is a sex maniac.
00:51:46Hmm.
00:51:47Sex maniac who kills men and women
00:51:50and makes off with a million dollars.
00:51:53Well, even a sex maniac must pay his laundry bill.
00:51:57Hmm.
00:52:10Ah, I see Insurance International
00:52:12allows their investigators
00:52:13rather liberal expense accounts, Mr. Lynch.
00:52:17Yes, but I have to work on Saturdays.
00:52:19Ah, no English weekend.
00:52:22Uh, this morning my men reported to me
00:52:24that someone last night ransacked your room.
00:52:27Huh.
00:52:28Well, if it hadn't been for the fact
00:52:29that you two had been breaking all those big news stories
00:52:32about the missing million dollars,
00:52:34I wonder how many others
00:52:35would have been breaking into my room.
00:52:37No, we didn't tear up a room.
00:52:39But we police always try and work as neatly as we can.
00:52:41Oh, Mr. Stanley,
00:52:42I forgot to thank you last night for calling me.
00:52:45Glad I could help you.
00:52:47Ah, then it was you who called Cleo's office.
00:52:51Yes, I told them where to reach her.
00:52:53Yeah, because you've been spying, I suppose.
00:52:56You're still a suspect.
00:52:57My call was a courtesy, that's all.
00:52:59It shouldn't bother you too much,
00:53:01especially with that butcher prowling around.
00:53:03Yes, though it will be difficult to capture.
00:53:04And by now, all the clues you had have disappeared.
00:53:08No.
00:53:09There's still one you forgot to mention.
00:53:11And it's the one which will lead us to him.
00:53:13All airports, roads and trains are under control.
00:53:16You'll find it's hard to move out all those dollars.
00:53:19Pretty hard.
00:53:20Oh, sure, Stanley, that's perfectly true.
00:53:21But he might also put all that money in his mattress
00:53:23and sleep like a baby till you get tired.
00:53:26No, Lynch, I would doubt that.
00:53:28Because when a man kills for money like this one does,
00:53:30it's probably not worth it.
00:53:31Because when a man kills for money like this one does,
00:53:33it's pretty unlikely he'd wait even a month.
00:53:36I would say that I agree with Mr. Stanley.
00:53:39That money will make our man easy to find.
00:53:44Meanwhile, don't leave the country.
00:53:46You don't have to worry about that.
00:54:02Do you like them?
00:54:03Oh, yes, they're lovely.
00:54:07They're just what I wanted.
00:54:09Oh, by the way, don't forget to hide the keys
00:54:11if you have to leave before I get back to town.
00:54:14I've got a layover in Bangkok.
00:54:16That might be for me.
00:54:17Would you get it, please?
00:54:23I'm sorry.
00:54:25I'm sorry.
00:54:27I'm sorry.
00:54:29I'm sorry.
00:54:31Hello?
00:54:33Yes, he got in this morning.
00:54:36I'll call him.
00:54:38It's for you, dear.
00:54:39I've got to go now.
00:54:40Goodbye.
00:54:41I don't want to miss my flight.
00:54:43So long.
00:54:44Thanks for everything.
00:54:48Hey, you'll make me spill the goulash.
00:54:50Besides, there's a time and a place for everything.
00:54:55Try it.
00:54:59Do you like it?
00:55:02Hmm?
00:55:03What is it?
00:55:05Maybe more paprika?
00:55:07Oh.
00:55:14No, it's great.
00:55:22Oh, I'm sorry.
00:55:26Darling, as a cook, you're much better in the bedroom, you know.
00:55:31Hmm.
00:55:43Oh, Pete.
00:56:02Oh.
00:56:23There's somebody at the window.
00:56:25What the hell?
00:56:28What are you looking for?
00:56:29Nothing.
00:56:30I was just coming to ask you to move your car.
00:56:31It's blocking the garage.
00:56:32I'll bet.
00:56:33I'll bet.
00:56:34Well, I'll go out and move it.
00:56:35But the next time you want anything,
00:56:36you do well to ring up the front door.
00:56:38Because if I catch you peeping in here again,
00:56:39you'll regret it.
00:56:44It's my fault.
00:56:45My car was blocking his.
00:56:47I'll go move it.
00:56:48Don't you move, huh?
00:56:59Don't you move.
00:57:30Oh.
00:57:32What time is it?
00:57:35Best time in my life.
00:57:43Oh, I'm sorry, darling.
00:57:45But I've got a pile of photos to develop for tomorrow.
00:57:49No.
00:57:50Stay here.
00:57:54But we can't make love forever.
00:57:56Hmm.
00:57:57Why not?
00:57:58Anyway, we can try.
00:58:00And afterwards, you can give me some more of your good cooking.
00:58:02And then we can start all over again.
00:58:03Oh, no.
00:58:04Be serious.
00:58:05My dear, I've never been more serious in my life.
00:58:11It may be funny.
00:58:12But now I know
00:58:14that a man reaches a point when he must decide
00:58:16whether to live or just go on existing
00:58:18and whether he wants to be a slave anymore.
00:58:21To be free and sail
00:58:25all over the world before he's too old to enjoy it.
00:58:28When?
00:58:29I don't know.
00:58:31Not this year.
00:58:32Who knows?
00:58:34Maybe next.
00:58:35Well,
00:58:37how about you coming along as my first mate?
00:58:41But we need some money to live like that.
00:58:46Yeah, I've forgotten.
00:58:47But would you go along?
00:58:49Well, let me get back to my work and we can make some.
00:58:51Listen.
00:58:52Would you go with me if I did have the money?
00:58:56I don't know.
00:58:59Then back to work, slave.
00:59:02Bye.
00:59:03So long.
00:59:04Call me tomorrow.
00:59:28Oh, what's wrong with the light?
00:59:58Who's that?
01:00:28Cleo.
01:00:33Cleo.
01:00:35Open the door.
01:00:36I forgot the keys to my car.
01:00:38Cleo.
01:00:39Hey, open up.
01:00:43What's the matter?
01:00:44Come on, open up.
01:00:48Help me.
01:00:49Help me.
01:00:53God, we need to hurry.
01:00:55Cleo.
01:00:59Cleo.
01:01:10No, don't go, Peter.
01:01:12He'll kill you.
01:01:13Don't go.
01:01:17Cleo.
01:01:19Oh, Peter.
01:01:21He tried to kill me.
01:01:23Oh, darling, hold me.
01:01:26It's all right now, it's all right.
01:01:27I'm here.
01:01:28Let me see.
01:01:32It's not serious, thank God.
01:01:34Now, wait here.
01:01:35I'll call the police.
01:01:36Now, don't go.
01:01:45Please, Inspector Stavros.
01:01:47Then you must try and find him and tell him the murderer has tried to kill again.
01:01:50Another woman, Cleo Dupont.
01:01:53And please rush an ambulance to Koronaki Street 12.
01:01:55Peter Lynch.
01:02:00Oh, Peter, don't leave me.
01:02:02That fiend could come back.
01:02:05No, don't you worry.
01:02:06He's too yellow to attack anything but women.
01:02:09Listen, could you recognize him?
01:02:11Could you identify him?
01:02:12No, it was too dark and he was masked.
01:02:17I only could see his black hand holding a dagger.
01:02:24Oh, God.
01:02:25I've never been so afraid in my whole life.
01:02:28Try to calm down.
01:02:29Why did he want to kill me?
01:02:31Try to calm down.
01:02:32It's all over now.
01:02:54Could you stand back, please, miss?
01:03:07Now, Mr. Lynch, you stay and help me.
01:03:10What do you know?
01:03:11She's still under shock.
01:03:12I think I'd better go.
01:03:13That's what a hospital's for.
01:03:14Let's go.
01:03:23Let's go.
01:03:39Is Miss Dupont all right?
01:03:40Yes, sir.
01:03:44I had to break down the door.
01:03:45When the man attacking her saw me, he fled through the window.
01:03:49The wires were cut.
01:03:51The man entered the room while the girl was developing her film.
01:03:55Right.
01:03:56Somebody who knew that apartment.
01:03:57Somebody who was able in a few seconds to find that fuse.
01:03:59Are you insinuating that I'm the one who assaulted her?
01:04:02You're right.
01:04:03I sure do.
01:04:04And it's odd.
01:04:05Each time there's a murder, you're there.
01:04:07You must be crazy.
01:04:08I was outside breaking down the door while that man was in here trying to kill Cleo.
01:04:12All right, that's enough.
01:04:13Calm down.
01:04:16Fortunately, the girl wasn't murdered.
01:04:18And she'll tell us her version.
01:04:21Yeah, maybe we'll get to the bottom of this if she can identify the man who attacked her.
01:04:26I look for fingerprints.
01:04:28I never find anything.
01:04:30I can't stomach German wine.
01:04:32They'll find my prints all over the room.
01:04:34Yes, I know.
01:04:35But they always hope to turn up others.
01:04:48Yours.
01:04:51No.
01:04:57Could belong to the murderer.
01:05:01Seems to have been done by hand.
01:05:22No, I'm sorry.
01:05:23It's difficult to tell from a picture, sir.
01:05:25If you brought me the real one, I might.
01:05:27No, I'm sorry.
01:05:28I don't have it.
01:05:29Do you have any idea where that cufflink was manufactured?
01:05:32I mean, do they make that sort of thing in Athens?
01:05:35Or do you have any idea where it was made?
01:05:37Are you with the police?
01:05:38Oh, no.
01:05:39Well?
01:05:41I don't know where it was made.
01:05:43Because the piece was made in filigree.
01:05:45And most of that is done in the Middle East.
01:05:47Argyle spits don't do it anymore.
01:05:49My guess is Turkey or Iran.
01:05:51But I really don't know.
01:05:53Well, thank you very much.
01:05:57I warned Mrs. Balmer that it was dangerous to take cash for a check for a million dollars.
01:06:01Yes, but...
01:06:03If the murder of Lara Florakis is tied up with that million dollars,
01:06:06what possible reason could there have been to try to kill Cléo Dupont?
01:06:10Well, I don't know.
01:06:11I would let the police figure it out.
01:06:13And listen, I might add that if you don't find that money, you won't be fired.
01:06:16We don't expect miracles.
01:06:18I was hoping that between us we might find that one forgotten fact
01:06:21that could aid in solving the case.
01:06:23I guess not.
01:06:25I say that.
01:06:27Would you have any photographs of Kurt Balmer?
01:06:29Miss Anagnos, do we have a picture of Kurt Balmer?
01:06:32The newspaper published one.
01:06:33It must be down in the press office.
01:06:35Well, tell him to give a copy to Mr. Lynch.
01:06:37He can pick it up at his office.
01:06:38I'm afraid I can't.
01:06:39It must be down in the press office.
01:06:40Well, tell him to give a copy to Mr. Lynch.
01:06:42He can pick it up on his way out.
01:06:44Right away, sir.
01:06:45Probably won't help much, but anyway, it's worth a try.
01:06:47Right, good luck.
01:06:58Yes, hello?
01:07:00Cléo, you better?
01:07:03You mean you're out today?
01:07:05When, then?
01:07:06Tomorrow?
01:07:07I'll bring you home, then, okay?
01:07:10But of course I do.
01:07:13But what do you mean by that?
01:07:17Hello?
01:07:19Well, who are you?
01:07:21If you're there on a police visit, all right,
01:07:23but don't you forget that Cléo's mine.
01:07:24You seem to be full of pleasantries today, Lynch.
01:07:28Maybe you ought to conserve that good mood of yours
01:07:30and say those jokes for me at my office this morning.
01:07:32Let's say in ten minutes, hmm?
01:07:34Yes, yes.
01:07:36I'll give you enough time to go to the bathroom
01:07:38and you can shave!
01:07:41Must be his odd British sense of humor.
01:07:45Why are you down on Peter Lynch?
01:07:47Are you mad because he saved my life?
01:07:49I confess, I can't stand that...
01:07:52That man's odd British sense of humor.
01:07:58Your hands.
01:07:59Is that all?
01:08:00Yes, sir.
01:08:01What's that?
01:08:02I want you to show me your hands.
01:08:05May I ask what you're looking for?
01:08:09I want to read your future.
01:08:13The DuPont girl bit the murderer's hand.
01:08:16Yes, that's right, and she also said the man she bit
01:08:18was wearing gloves on both hands.
01:08:20To bite like that, she'd need a pair of fangs.
01:08:24Why don't you inspect his hand while you're at it?
01:08:26Or am I the only one who's being grilled here?
01:08:30I'm always glad to oblige.
01:08:33A straight cut isn't any proof of his innocence.
01:08:36The killer could easily disguise the bite marks
01:08:38by making a cut that was longer and deeper.
01:08:41If you're finished with these foolish deductions,
01:08:43Mr. Lynch, you may go now.
01:08:45I'd be glad to.
01:08:47I just hope you're finished with yours.
01:08:50And now, reporting on that theft of a million dollars
01:08:53which has taken the lives of three victims,
01:08:55our police have come up with nothing as yet.
01:08:57And according to a police official who was interviewed today,
01:09:00the attempted murder of the journalist Clay DuPont
01:09:03would seem to have a connection with the killer.
01:09:05We do have a connection with the case involving the Baumers.
01:09:08The police also announced that they are investigating
01:09:10an important new clue which the assailant left behind
01:09:13in the apartment of the young foreign correspondent
01:09:15on the night he attempted to murder her.
01:09:17And police detectives say they hope this will soon lead
01:09:19to solving the killer's identity.
01:09:21Inspector Aristobados, the officer in charge of the investigation,
01:09:24refused to make any comment on the progress of the case.
01:09:27Well, that's the top of the news from here, ladies and gentlemen.
01:09:30Good night.
01:09:31This concludes our report for you on world and local news.
01:09:34And now we invite you to stay with us
01:09:36to watch a special program by our roving reporter in America.
01:09:40This is Victor Damaskinos,
01:09:43reporting tonight from Hollywood, California,
01:09:46that land of make-believe and contradiction.
01:09:49It's Thanksgiving Day here in America,
01:09:51and Hollywood is celebrating it in its own spectacular fashion.
01:09:55Girls, girls, girls.
01:09:58Thousands of the prettiest girls in this golden state
01:10:00have assembled in Los Angeles
01:10:02and are parading down floodlit Hollywood Boulevard.
01:10:05Those of you who have followed me on my travels
01:10:07have seen the wonders of New York,
01:10:09the giant industries of Pittsburgh and Detroit,
01:10:11the raw energy of Chicago, and the vastness of the Great Plains.
01:10:14But tonight is something different.
01:10:16Here we have a demonstration of the fresh beauty of America's youth,
01:10:20representing the high schools and colleges
01:10:22from all over vast Southern California.
01:10:26The music you hear comes from the combined bands
01:10:29of ten high schools and three universities,
01:10:32conducted by the band leaders
01:10:34from the University of Southern California.
01:10:36This is indeed a feast of sound and light,
01:10:39of color and animation.
01:10:41Giant balloons illuminated by searchlights
01:10:44flood both sides of the street,
01:10:46and the crowd roars its appreciation
01:10:48for the segment of this great parade.
01:10:56Aah!
01:11:07Yes, ladies and gentlemen, as you can see,
01:11:10America is still young, and it is indeed a pleasure
01:11:13to see these young people so full of life and energy.
01:11:16Carlo?
01:11:19Where are you?
01:11:22Hey.
01:11:24Aah!
01:11:45You mind telling me what's wrong with you?
01:11:50I don't know. I feel something's missing somewhere.
01:11:54Like I might be on the verge of something important,
01:11:56though I just can't put it in focus.
01:11:58If you let me, maybe I could help you.
01:12:14Cleo.
01:12:16You have an enlarger in the house, don't you?
01:12:18Sure I do.
01:12:20It's very grainy, but we ought to be able to make it out.
01:12:51Aah!
01:12:59Aah!
01:13:08Aah!
01:13:16Aah!
01:13:21So, you see, Inspector, this should also explain
01:13:24the death of that steward, the man who called Lisa
01:13:27and who flew back here from Tokyo.
01:13:29I suppose so, and Kurt Bommer might still be alive,
01:13:32and if we wait long enough, he could turn up.
01:13:35It's possible, but dangerous, I'd say, to wait.
01:13:38Still, I'll accept it for the moment.
01:13:40Then why don't we examine their hypothesis?
01:13:42Over a year ago, Kurt Bommer took out a life insurance policy
01:13:45for $1 million, payable upon death.
01:13:48We believe the man who flew out, and who we believe
01:13:51was someone other than Kurt Bommer,
01:13:53was unaware that his valise had a time bomb hidden in it.
01:13:56The plane fell down. Lisa arrives in Athens.
01:13:58Though we don't know if she's in on it or not.
01:14:01Though we both believe that Lisa was murdered by her husband
01:14:04because he wanted to be rid of her.
01:14:06A perfect crime. Who would suspect him?
01:14:08But Lara Florakis knew it. I think she must have.
01:14:11Because if Bommer were aware that she and her lawyer
01:14:14knew that he was alive, he'd have to kill her
01:14:17But surely our man must have had some sort of motive
01:14:19for trying to murder Cleo.
01:14:22Yes. I must admit that's the one point I can't figure out.
01:14:25Well, maybe what he wanted was an innocent victim
01:14:27and make believe he was a maniac.
01:14:29No. His aim wasn't that.
01:14:32If Peter hadn't returned before that man murdered Cleo,
01:14:35we might well have committed a grave miscarriage of justice.
01:14:39Yes, sir.
01:14:41Because the man who tried to kill her
01:14:43wanted to cast suspicion on Lynch.
01:14:45And I might add he was very successful at it.
01:14:47Yes. Well, what do you think?
01:14:51Uh, well, it's plausible, I'd say.
01:14:54Well, I was thinking Lynch might help us solve the case
01:14:57if he let the killer think he's still under suspicion.
01:15:00Now, would you like to play a wanted man?
01:15:02Hmm. The boat's still in Piraeus.
01:15:05I might pull out and pretend to escape.
01:15:08And you might fake a search for me.
01:15:10Darling, you must take me along with you for the fresh air
01:15:13is what the doctor said I needed.
01:15:15Why not? I think it would be much better.
01:15:19Do you have a radio telephone on board?
01:15:21Oh, yes.
01:15:23Good. It's very important that we keep in touch with each other.
01:15:26Hmm?
01:15:27All right. This piece goes here.
01:15:33Well, you found the piece.
01:15:36It was a tough puzzle, but it's solved now.
01:15:39Maybe you two should start this great escape through the back door.
01:15:42Goodbye.
01:15:43Hello. Yes, in one minute.
01:15:45This way? Yes.
01:15:48Uh, just one more thing, Inspector.
01:15:51I hope that you'll give me an exclusive.
01:15:53I'd say you had an exclusive on Peter Lynch.
01:16:01All right.
01:16:03All right.
01:16:06Please sit down.
01:16:34Thank you.
01:16:55Do you see what it means to be free?
01:16:57Yes, it's wonderful.
01:16:59We live on love and follow the sun and the stars.
01:17:02I wish we could be like this forever.
01:17:17What do you want?
01:17:19Good morning. Is this Mr. Balmer's house?
01:17:21It was.
01:17:23But after Mr. Balmer was killed, the bank took possession of it.
01:17:26Bank? Didn't he have heirs?
01:17:28I don't know, but I know he owed the bank money, so they took over the house.
01:17:33Would you let me have a look inside?
01:17:35I'd be much obliged.
01:17:40All right.
01:17:43Come in. Yes, thank you.
01:17:45Did you work for Mr. Balmer long?
01:17:47Yes, I was his orderly in the army during the last war.
01:17:51You know, after all we went through together, it's hard to believe that he's dead.
01:17:59Hey, Peter.
01:18:01Why are you bringing that sack with you?
01:18:03It's a net for the fish I catch.
01:18:05I'll be right back.
01:18:07Hey, while you're waiting, will you fix a nice lunch for us?
01:18:10So long.
01:18:12All right.
01:18:28Thank you.
01:18:58I'll be right back.
01:19:28Oh, my God.
01:19:59Well, darling, did you catch your whale?
01:20:05No, it's poor fishing.
01:20:07I'd better try tomorrow.
01:20:17I'm sorry, darling.
01:20:19I'm sorry.
01:20:21I'm sorry.
01:20:23I'm sorry.
01:20:26I'm sorry.
01:20:37I guess this might be the answer to it.
01:20:39I'd say it's the biggest break we've had.
01:20:41We'd better move fast.
01:20:55Let's go.
01:21:25Let's go.
01:21:55Let's go.
01:22:25Let's go.
01:22:55Let's go.
01:23:14You're much too curious, Cleo.
01:23:19For years, I investigated cases of insurance fraud...
01:23:22and recovered the money for my company...
01:23:24with nothing more than a pat on the back for my efforts.
01:23:27When I saw that policy of Bauman's for a million dollars...
01:23:30I decided it was my ticket to break out of the net I was in...
01:23:33and live the way I always wanted.
01:23:35Investigating the Baumans, I learned Lisa often cheated on her husband...
01:23:38so to cast suspicion on her, I took an airline steward into my plans...
01:23:41who was hungry for money and women, to become her lover.
01:23:44The only hitch was that Lisa fell in love with him, and I had to act fast...
01:23:48for if Kurt found out, he could cancel or change the policy.
01:23:51I was also suspicious when Lisa cashed that check and booked for Tokyo...
01:23:55and I didn't know Lara Florakis had similar plans to mine.
01:23:58You...
01:24:01Why did you use me like that?
01:24:04Kill...
01:24:06and rob.
01:24:08What are you going to do now?
01:24:13Well, I wanted to take you away with me.
01:24:16But that depends.
01:24:18I never wanted you to know, Cleo.
01:24:21But if it wasn't you that night...
01:24:24Peter...
01:24:26who was that man then?
01:24:28That man was my partner.
01:24:30The same man who arranged Kurt's death in that plane crash.
01:24:34I was forced then to finish him off before he might blackmail me.
01:24:38But first it was necessary for him to bring me some cufflinks he had made in Turkey...
01:24:42like the ones you photographed.
01:24:44Pretty neat, eh?
01:24:46Bastard.
01:24:48He must be crazy!
01:24:55Cleo!
01:24:57Cleo!
01:24:59Open that hatch!
01:25:01What are you trying to do?
01:25:03Listen, Cleo, open up!
01:25:05Hello! Hello! Hello!
01:25:07If anyone can hear me, please call the police.
01:25:10Please hurry!
01:25:12Calling Inspector Stavros or John Stanley.
01:25:15It's Cleo Dupont.
01:25:17Oh, I need your help.
01:25:19I'm on Lynch's boat.
01:25:23It's off the island of Lamlos.
01:25:25I know now who he is.
01:25:27Peter is the killer.
01:25:29He'll murder me.
01:25:46You have to turn the switch on, or it won't transmit.
01:26:07No one will ever catch me.
01:26:09And you...
01:26:11you'll stay here with me.
01:26:15We have a million dollars, Cleo.
01:26:19Why were you so curious, darling?
01:26:22Peter, you're mentally ill, you know that, dear?
01:26:26You can get cured, though. You'll see.
01:26:29Don't ever say that! Don't make me angry.
01:26:45Ugh!
01:27:15Ugh!
01:27:45Ugh!
01:28:15No! No!
01:28:45No! No! No!
01:28:48No!
01:28:59No!
01:29:16No!
01:29:20No!
01:29:28No!
01:29:30No!
01:29:32No!
01:29:45All we know is where they reported from yesterday.
01:29:48It'll be hard to find them. There's so many islands.
01:29:51They could be anywhere within 50 miles of us.
01:30:16No!
01:30:18No!
01:30:22No!
01:30:24No!
01:30:26Please!
01:30:46Ugh!
01:30:48Ugh!
01:30:50Ugh!
01:30:57Ugh!
01:30:59Ugh!
01:31:15Cleo.
01:31:20Cleo.
01:31:42Cleo, you're safe now.
01:31:45It's all over.
01:31:48And Peter?
01:31:50He's gone.
01:31:52To a place where no policeman can reach him.
01:31:58Peter was mad, you know.
01:32:01I was a fool to trust him.
01:32:04And you saved me.
01:32:10Well, how did you find out about him?
01:32:18Balmer's cufflinks.
01:32:20No, they're a facsimile.
01:32:22You see, while we were questioning a hostess who was a friend of the murdered steward,
01:32:26I noticed something odd.
01:32:28She was wearing a pin similar to the one found in your apartment.
01:32:32But the hostess said a steward had brought her the pin from Turkey.
01:32:36And when I found the same pair of cufflinks in the house of Kurt Balmer,
01:32:40we knew a trick was involved.
01:32:42And the one in your apartment had been planted there.
01:32:44The only one who could do that was Peter.
01:32:47We needed to find the money to nail down the case.
01:32:50Yes.
01:32:52But we only found it thanks to you.
01:33:04Goodbye, miss. You're welcome.
01:33:06Good luck.
01:33:08Thank you, doctor.
01:33:15Now, when you come back here one day,
01:33:17I'd begin covering fashions instead of murders if I were you.
01:33:20I guess I should.
01:33:22Thanks again.
01:33:23Have a good trip. Bye.
01:33:25Bye, inspector.
01:33:27Oh, John, you're still in town.
01:33:29I was told you flew out of Athens yesterday.
01:33:32Well, before I went anywhere, I was waiting
01:33:34for a beautiful day and a beautiful girl.
01:33:44Oh, my God.
01:34:14Oh, my God.
