00:00Although, it was great to see Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen reprising their most
00:04iconic roles, and a few other familiar faces for that matter along the way, it doesn't
00:10change the fact that there's a lot of things in Obi-Wan Kenobi that simply do not make
00:15sense.
00:16Gareth here from WhatCulture Star Wars and here are 10 Things in Obi-Wan Kenobi That
00:21Make No Sense.
00:2310.
00:24Somehow, the Stormtroopers Are Less Competent Than Ever
00:27The Stormtroopers' incompetence has been a running joke since Star Wars premiered all
00:31those moons ago.
00:33Their marksmanship skills are so bad, it would actually be out of character if they hit something.
00:38But in Obi-Wan Kenobi, these bucketheads aren't just inept, they're idiots.
00:42In Episode V, hundreds of these soldiers corner half a dozen PATH members, and yet fail to
00:47shoot anyone unless they are two feet away.
00:50As silly as that moment is, Episode IV might have the dumbest Stormtrooper moment ever,
00:56when the Reaver suspects Imperial Officer Tala is a double agent, she has two of her
01:00white-armoured footmen take her away.
01:03Luckily, Tala grabs one of the Stormtroopers' weapons and blasts them.
01:07But how did she get a hold of it?
01:08Well, she stunned the Stormtroopers by slapping them.
01:11What are these helmets made of, paper?
01:13You wouldn't feel a slap if you were wearing a sports helmet, and yet it was enough to
01:16leave these Stormtroopers utterly dazed.
01:199.
01:20Why Did It Take So Long To Open The PATH Gate?
01:23Because Episode IV was somewhat underwhelming for most, many viewers were worried the Obi-Wan
01:27Kenobi series wouldn't be able to recover.
01:30Thankfully, Episode V reset the course by giving viewers everything they were looking
01:34for.
01:35We finally learned Reaver's backstory, and saw her develop as a character, and Darth
01:39Vader got the chance to truly cut loose.
01:42Having said that, though, this episode suffers from a couple of gripes many cannot overlook.
01:47After Vader's forces track down the PATH's hideout, Reaver orders the Stormtroopers to
01:51use a heavy gun to rip apart the blast door.
01:54Obi-Wan tells the PATH leader Roken the Imperials should break through within the hour.
01:58When the titular character fails to stall Reaver, she then uses her lightsaber to slice
02:02through said door, deactivating the lock mechanism.
02:06Which actually begs the question, why didn't she just use her weapon sooner?
02:10Why did she waste all that time when she could have just hacked through the door in a couple
02:14of seconds?
02:15I mean, it's literally a laser sword.
02:16It's not like she isn't aware of her lightsaber's cutting capabilities.
02:218.
02:22Darth Vader Keeps Failing to Finish His Enemies Off
02:25Contrary to what Darth Vader said in Return of the Jedi, he is not exactly known for being
02:30forgiving.
02:31On many occasions, he has impulsively killed his own men, simply because he was unable
02:35to control his anger.
02:36Even though this behavior makes the Sith look a bit petty at times, it emphasizes that Vader
02:41has no qualms about killing anyone.
02:43But throughout the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, Vader keeps sparing his enemies, purely for the
02:48sake of the plot.
02:49After Reva betrays him, he plunges his lightsaber into her abdomen.
02:52As she lies helplessly on the ground, finishing her off should be as easy as shooting Wop
02:57Rats in a barrel.
02:58Instead, Vader walks away, giving the Inquisitor time to escape and recuperate.
03:03If this was a one-off incident, it could be forgiven.
03:06But in Episode 6, the fallen Jedi makes the same mistake.
03:10After dropping a pile of boulders on Obi-Wan, the former Padawan trots off, assuming the
03:14deed is done.
03:16But since Obi-Wan is resourceful and, you know, a Jedi Knight, a bunch of rocks obviously
03:20isn't going to be enough to kill him off.
03:22Considering Vader is obsessed about killing his master for a decade, you'd think he
03:26wouldn't accept Obi-Wan was dead unless he was looking at his charred corpse.
03:31But that would not have served the plot.
03:33How did Anakin not sense Reva as a youngling?
03:36In Episode 5, Reva reveals to Obi-Wan that she was one of the younglings sentenced to
03:40death during the Great Jedi Purge.
03:43After the Emperor initiated Order 66, Darth Vader and the clone troopers marched into
03:48the Jedi Temple to exterminate every Force wielder they saw.
03:52And knowing she couldn't stop Vader, Reva played dead to escape the Sith's wrath.
03:57Reva's strategy was so clever, there's no reason why it wouldn't be able to fool
04:00an ordinary person.
04:02But Vader is far from ordinary, isn't he?
04:04Like any Sith, Vader can detect people from great distances.
04:07However, a Force wielder's ability to detect another is far easier if the other person
04:12is Force-sensitive as well.
04:14Because Reva was taught in the ways of the Force, she shouldn't have been able to trick
04:18Darth Vader.
04:20Especially since he's one of the most powerful Sith to ever live.
04:23How odd.
04:246.
04:25Why was Obi-Wan surprised to hear Anakin was still alive?
04:29While there could be an argument to be made that Obi-Wan was very much under the impression
04:32that his former padawan and brother, Anakin, ultimately succumbed to his blistering injuries
04:37in the aftermath of the pair's fiery duel on Mustafar in Revenge of the Sith for a time,
04:42the fact he only stumbled on the fact he was actually wrong about Skywalker's demise
04:45some ten years on from their fight in episode two of the series felt a little bit odd.
04:51For those pointing to the idea of Kenobi possibly not being aware of the Chosen One now going
04:55as Darth Vader, in the time since their emotional last encounter, Yoda very much referenced
05:00Anakin being consumed by Darth Vader to Kenobi during said episode three prequel.
05:06Even with Kenobi's isolation on Tatooine and cutting himself off from the Force, did
05:10he not even once hear of a frightened civilian on the desert planet talk about the Emperor's
05:15right-hand man wreaking havoc across the galaxy?
05:17Sure, the planet is on the outer rim, but it just feels odd that he never once heard
05:22of the name Vader being uttered aloud, and put two and two together during his ten years
05:26of exile, and consistently spending time around the planet's occupants and his Tibiden Station
05:31workers.
05:325.
05:33How did Obi-Wan outrun a tidal wave?
05:36In episode four, Obi-Wan is shot at by stormtroopers in an underwater corridor, forcing him to
05:42deflect their lasers with his lightsaber.
05:44To our heroes' horror, one laser is redirected towards a glass wall, cracking it open.
05:49Using the Force, though, Obi-Wan eventually keeps the glass together, giving his companions
05:53enough time to escape.
05:55And when they reach the other room, Obi-Wan then stops using the Force to join them, causing
05:59hundreds of gallons to crash into the corridor.
06:02Unfortunately, though, he manages to reach the next room, allowing Tarla to seal the
06:06corridor.
06:07However, it's damn near impossible to outrun a tidal wave.
06:10When water bursts through a compact area like what's depicted in this scene, it can move
06:15up to 500 miles per hour.
06:18Obi-Wan could have survived if he just used Force speed, Star Wars keep forgetting that
06:21Jedi's can do that.
06:23But instead, he simply jogs away from the rushing current.
06:264.
06:27Why did Obi-Wan let himself be scanned in Mapuzo?
06:31When Obi-Wan is stopped by stormtroopers on Mapuzo in Episode 3, the soldiers force him
06:35to undergo a probe scan to ensure he's not a Jedi.
06:39As soon as the machine finishes scanning him, Obi-Wan then blasts the troops and flees with
06:43Princess Leia.
06:44Although he tries to stay hidden, the probe's data is transferred to the Imperials, informing
06:49the Inquisitors of his location.
06:51Within a matter of hours, Darth Vader and his minions land on Mapuzo, which results
06:55in the locals being murdered, and Obi-Wan being incinerated by his former pupil.
07:00However, all of this could have been avoided if Obi-Wan shot the stormtroopers before he
07:04was scanned by the Imperial probe.
07:07Obviously, he's a bit reluctant to draw his weapon since he doesn't want to cause
07:10a scene, but since he had to almost inevitably blast the stormtroopers to continue on his
07:15journey anyway, why didn't he just shoot them or the probe sooner?
07:19Even though this action put him in danger, the fact that he allowed himself to be scanned
07:22made it a thousand times worse, since the Empire then learned exactly where he was residing.
07:283.
07:29Why didn't Obi-Wan go around the gate on Mapuzo?
07:32As Obi-Wan Kenobi and Leia Organa make their way to a rendezvous point on Mapuzo, they're
07:37picked up by a mole-like alien called Freck.
07:40As he brings them to a laser gate guarded by stormtroopers, the untrustworthy Freck
07:45asks the soldiers to investigate his passengers.
07:47This then leads to a shootout since Obi-Wan and Leia aren't able to get around the laser
07:51gate.
07:52Oh wait, no, yeah, yeah, they probably could have.
07:54All they had to do was walk around the gate to reach the other side.
07:58Even though a toddler could have figured this out, Obi-Wan instead blasts the gate
08:01mechanism to continue his mission.
08:03This entire situation is so parodical, it's reminiscent of a scene from Robin Hood Men
08:08in Tights, where our hero is informed he can just walk around Little John's toll bridge,
08:12but he refuses to.
08:14What makes this scene even dumber is that this plot hole could have easily been fixed
08:18if there was a large structure on both sides of the gate or something like that, preventing
08:22anyone from getting around it.
08:25The show contradicts key moments in A New Hope
08:28No matter how much one loves Han Solo, lightsabers and the Force, Star Wars has always suffered
08:33from one very serious problem.
08:35It has to work around the limitations of its own continuity.
08:38Because George Lucas' creation has expanded its lore into comics, books, video games,
08:43animated series, TV shows and movie spin-offs, it's virtually impossible for the story
08:48to be flawlessly cohesive.
08:50The Obi-Wan Kenobi series proves this point, since it conflicts with the original trilogy.
08:54In A New Hope, Princess Leia leaves a message in R2-D2, referring to Obi-Wan as a man who
08:59served my father in the Clone Wars.
09:02Based on this odd phrasing, it sounds like the two have never met, but as has been revealed
09:06in the Disney Plus series, the two are more than well acquainted.
09:10Considering the pair went on a planet-hopping adventure ten years prior, and were chased
09:13by Inquisitors for crying out loud, it feels like Leia has no reason to introduce herself,
09:18since Obi-Wan knows exactly who she is.
09:21Sadly, there is no way to fix this continuity error, meaning die-hard fans will just have
09:25to accept this egregious blunder.
09:30The idea of a hero disguising themselves as an Empire employee is an age-old trope in
09:35the world of Star Wars, isn't it?
09:37So it's not too surprising Obi-Wan Kenobi made a reference to this running joke by including
09:41a scene of our hero pretending he's working with the Empire.
09:45But the disguise that Obi-Wan wears while escaping Fortress Inquisitorius with Leia
09:49is so ludicrous, it feels more suited to space balls than the iconic sci-fi franchise.
09:55To get out of the facility, Obi-Wan dons the attire of an Imperial officer, but it fits
10:00so badly, it's blatantly obvious it's not his uniform.
10:03Also, even though the majority of Imperial officers can't have facial hair, nobody
10:07notices Obi-Wan has a damn glorious beard.
10:11But the most preposterous moment is how Obi-Wan hides Leia.
10:14To make sure nobody sees her, he places her under his coat.
10:18This guy is a legendary Jedi Knight, and that is the best strategy he could come up with.
10:22You know what the silliest thing is?
10:24Obi-Wan's plan actually bloody works.
10:26And that's our list of any other things in Disney Plus' Obi-Wan Kenobi that make
10:30no sense.
