00:00Hello and welcome to this yet another brand new episode of Editors Roundtable.
00:04This is a show where we bring you the editors of One India from 10 different languages on
00:09one platform and they share their editorial take on the stories that are shaping the week
00:15and in all likelihood are going to dominate the proceedings in the week to come.
00:20Joining us on the broadcast to begin with Kanhaiya, joining us from One India,
00:25obviously twin Telugu states as you always call them Telangana and Andhra Pradesh
00:33have one thing in common this time around and which is the incessant rains, heavy rains in
00:39Hyderabad battering the city, the old city especially. How are things positioned there
00:46because we have seen things in the past also going out of the hand especially in that part
00:50of the country. Good afternoon to the panel members out there and yes Hyderabad yesterday
00:59it had Hyderabad had significant rainfall yesterday and Kolkonda has received recorded
01:04the highest rainfall of 42.2 mm and overall Telangana has recorded about 170 mm of rainfall.
01:11Here the worries part is what about Hyderabad because Hyderabad is a actually it is a city
01:18the Hyderabad has a very good picture of a very good picture when seen on a global
01:27when seen globally so what when a small rainfall you know when small showers hit Hyderabad
01:33it is very people face of people are facing a very huge problems over here be it traffic wise
01:40or be it drainage system wise anything but now here what people when we actually went onto the
01:46ground and took the feedback how the system was working how the government was working
01:50really they were unhappy with the government. So here what I wanted to bring forth to the
01:57users is that now I mean I just wanted to put the opinion of the people here
02:02actually they say that there is no proper administration in these tough times
02:06and generally Hyderabad itself has a special I mean there is a minister appointed
02:13in charge minister appointed for Hyderabad like we see in Bangalore wherein
02:18Bruhan Bangalore Nagar Palike KCG you have to correct me if I'm wrong
02:23BBMP yeah BBMP so there we see the deputy CM taking in charge of Bangalore
02:30Bangalore municipality whatever but here in this congress government there is no single
02:36minister who is in charge of Hyderabad city that is where the lapse is so and moreover
02:42there was a heavy rainfall 7th Reddy actually he returned from the investments all that he
02:50was actually in US and South Korea for the to attract the investments as soon as he
02:56he actually arrived on 14th of August and then on 15th of August there was a flag hoisting and
03:02then he actually he went to Delhi for his again to meet Foxconn the chairman and all
03:10so but here in the city there were heavy rains wherein even the commissioner GHNC commissioner
03:17she has a very good she's known to be a good officer she has very good officer with a huge
03:23experience and also she built many crisis but she was nowhere on the field yesterday actually
03:28so that is where the lapses are wrong and moreover we have our mayor also but recently
03:34she switched from BRS to congress and now she is also nowhere people are really questioning
03:41where are the officers so their plight was really very horrible yesterday for the when the city was
03:47actually down around and all this rain water and flooded water was actually flowing and people
03:54faced a huge traffic crisis yesterday and public complaints also I when I spoke to the people
04:02even officials were actually they ignored even they when they complained so they were
04:07those complaints were also not addressed that is one big thing finally I just wanted to tell
04:13because GHMC elections they are very they'll be coming up very very soon so I would just like to
04:20remind our users back in 2019 BJP has rose to its highest seats in GHMC and the sole reason was BRS
04:27government it failed to tackle the situation when the city was actually if Revan Reddy is actually
04:34if he's ignoring that the same thing he might face he might face a heavy setback in the upcoming
04:38GHMC elections right right can you obviously stay with us just for the benefit of our viewers
04:45Avinash Sharma would be joining us momentarily there you see him in the stream he is following
04:50Avinash Pogat who has just landed from Paris and we just wonder whether it is the beginning of
04:57another sort of debate brewing in the country Avinash will come to you momentarily please stay
05:02with us Kanhaiya is there Kanhaiya one more issue when we talk about top officers and
05:08administrative bodies and administrative faces missing in action in this critical time of
05:16flood-like situation in Hyderabad there are IPS officers who have not given any posting in
05:23Andhra Pradesh and now they have been asked to report to the DGP with a set timing of 9 a.m to
05:275 p.m what is going on what is going on in this bureaucratic circles in Andhra Pradesh
05:33actually here what is happening is AP politics are turning out I mean they are actually
05:40repeat they are becoming a repetition of Tamil Nadu politics back then when
05:45back then when we observed it was Karunanidhi versus Jayalalitha, Jayalalitha versus Karunanidhi
05:50now the same thing is happening here in AP where in 2014 it was Chandrababu Naidu to
05:572019 and 2019 to 21st was Jaganmohan Reddy so now what is happening is these are the
06:03so-called the bureaucrats are actually they are being the scapegoat they are becoming the
06:07scapegoat over here because see when in 2014 when in the previous Chandrababu Naidu regime
06:14whoever they were whoever worked in favor of Chandrababu Naidu you know they were actually
06:19targeted in Jaganmohan Reddy's government so now the same thing now the same thing is
06:24happening now what is happening is there is an impression like 16 IPS offices were in favor of
06:31former CM Jagan so now these 16 IPS offices were actually I will not say targeted but then they
06:37were not given they were not given the posting and they were asked to actually you know they
06:44were asked to report to the DGP office and with in-punch and out-punch so this is actually
06:52brought some unhappiness in the IPS senior IPS officials so they were saying like there is no
07:01big difference between a criminal who is going who is out on bail and then he coming to the
07:06police station reporting to the police station signing and then again going out again coming
07:11and signing so this all they are not happy with this kind of orders from the government
07:18that is one reason and few of them actually you know during CDN's regime during Chandrababu
07:26Naidu's regime there was an intelligence officer AB Venkateswar Rao so when Jagan Reddy's government
07:33came in 2019 he was actually he was not given the posting and to our surprise you know he was
07:40actually given the last day of his posting where on that day only he came back of he took charge
07:47and again on that day only he was retired that is a very pathetic situation in that time so the
07:51second thing now the same thing is happening wherein the people who are actually filtered
07:56who worked in favor of Jagan they were not they're not assigned any task okay right I mean seems like
08:04winds of change definitely blowing in Andhra Pradesh with change in administration Kanhaiya
08:10but a lot needs to be taken care of when it comes to change of guard and change of the
08:15administrative position thank you so much Kanhaiya for joining us from Hyderabad and bringing us up
08:20to speed with what dominant proceedings in the twin state the twin telugu speaking states of
08:26Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have a good day Kanhaiya Kalpesh I know you know in the western
08:35part of the country the situation unfolding like that in Punjab where a lot of cases came up
08:44earlier where the government officials or teachers would be sitting in part of Canada
08:49but drawing salary in the state of Punjab from the state government or from the private bodies
08:53but this time around Gujarat we were shocked to see that news in morning newspapers and then you
08:59also file the report on how this trend of teachers staying out of the country
09:06yet receiving salaries in the state of Gujarat how does it work and why does it work
11:29there from a location best known to Avinash himself Avinash a lot of activity there
11:35Ginesh Pogat in the town how's the mood? Pankaj certainly the mood is quite high
11:41morale is very high the local community in and around Delhi and adjoining regions of
11:49Haryana the Jat community in particular is upbeat with the return of the golden girl
11:56the medal yes we missed out on medal but she's a champion nonetheless and that sentiment across
12:04the regions we saw the same sentiments at the airport and then we saw at Mahipalpur as well
12:12where she was solicited by a community the elders of the community solicited with some gold and some
12:19cash prize money as well which is a very common tradition in the parts of particularly Rajasthan
12:27Haryana and Uttar Pradesh western Uttar Pradesh so that is what happening is she'll be solicited
12:32across the throughout the way from Delhi to her native village Balali in Bhiwani so
12:42as you just can see behind me some people have gathered here a tent is being erected
12:48she'll be felicitated here as well very interesting thing is that Prothak MP
12:56is the Congress MP he's also joining he's joined them and he's also part of that cavalcade which
13:04is traveling from Delhi all the way to Balali Haryana so you can just say that a lot of
13:12politics is also involved in this entire journey that Vinesh
13:18and Prothak Shivalika are going to take right Avinash I know it's a hero's welcome that is
13:25being accorded to Vinesh Pogat no matter the medal was not achieved one thing I wanted to know from
13:34you as the editor of MyKale this Olympics obviously has generated a lot of I would say
13:40debates around the Indian contingents also be it Vinesh Pogat unfortunate exit to you know Indian
13:51hockey team taking an economy class back from Paris to India and plus other sort of things as
13:59well what how do you see this whole Olympics 2024 what messaging do you think that what are the
14:07lessons that we can take out of that one of the biggest things from this
14:13Paris Olympics for India was that there were a lot of fourth position finishes and that
14:20tells you a lot we had there been a little better effort we should not belittle the performances of
14:27the athletes the way they perform there in Paris they certainly gave their best but there's a very
14:34common terminology when it comes to supporting athletes the the champions love we saw quite a
14:41few times the champions like just staying a footstep away from Indian athletes in the
14:49maybe in the next coming years coming couple of decades of couple of Olympics we'll see the
14:55these four position finishes getting converted into podium finishes are very open a lot
15:03have been done financially the athletes are very stable now they get a lot of support from the
15:10government they train on overseas locations wherever the conditions favor them to get the
15:16best of facilities state-of-the-art facilities and access to state-of-the-art infrastructure
15:22if we can talk about them so a lot is being done to the athletes it's just that they were not lucky
15:28also preparation wise I think somewhere down the line in the underbelly of Indian athletics if we
15:35see the mentality of Indian athletes has to change it is changing it has to change they should be
15:44going entering into an event like an Asian Games or Olympics that they could be the champions the
15:51belief factor plays a lot of role in your success and we've spoken to a lot of athletes in the past
15:59and even in the near past as well we can see that the seat change in the way these athletes approach
16:08they've entered the arena with the champions mentality now which was lagging say 10 years
16:13or 15 years before so obviously a lot needs to be done I would still say that it's still not a
16:23very good performance at the Olympics we could have definitely touched at least 8 to 10 medals
16:29had we given our best or had the athletes or the contingent and the officials who are there with
16:37the athletes trained a little smarter we can take the example of some swimmers and they just
16:45sort of controlled their nerves at the clutch moment they could have finished the podium
16:54the example of Mirabai Chanu she just missed a medal by just one kg difference and she lifted
17:02one more kg she could have won another medal and she could have also done what
17:08Leera Chopra has done she won a silver medal in Tokyo, Leera Chopra won a gold medal in Tokyo
17:14and Leera ended up finishing with the silver here as well so Mirabai is just missing it by a whisker
17:20and we've seen this thing happening with a lot of athletes if you talk about team games we generally
17:27are much behind the other nations when it comes to team games participation as well as performance
17:35we were lucky that the hockey team lived up to the reputation expectations and they ended up
17:40securing at least a bronze medal and they played better hockey than they played back in Tokyo 2020
17:45that's for sure right absolutely Avinash thank you so much for bringing us the details and we wish
17:52that you managed to get at least Vinesh Pogat and speak to her and know her side of the story and
17:58also wish her good luck from our side also from One India family as well thank you so much Avinash
18:03thank you Ritesh Ghosh well you are sitting in Kolkata and trust me what started in Kolkata
18:11the unfortunate rape and murder of the doctor in RGK hospital has set the whole country
18:20into a different kind of motion as you speak there are protests going on in all parts of the country
18:26Mamata Banerjee it seems is pitted against herself the political commentary that is coming
18:34plus the action on the ground tell us tell us what is at the root cause what are the demands
18:40and what is going to be the final outcome thank you Pankaj ji after the incident happened and
18:48after this all these things had unfolded now there are multiple stakeholders to the
18:57incident we must say that one is there the doctors are there who are protesting from the day one
19:05then the state government is there then political parties are there BJP, TMC,
19:11CPM all these people are there nurses are there they have their own demands
19:18and also at the top of that the general public of Bengal and all over India they have their own
19:25demands so all these demands come together and make this situation much more than expected
19:36so the primary demand of the doctors when it started it remains the same the safety and
19:43security of the doctors and the medical staffs in the hospitals and arrest of the culprits
19:51if it is more than one arrest them and give them the capital punishment
19:56and justice for the victim that is the main demand of the doctors now the opposition is demanding
20:04that government should take the responsibility of the incident that is much more important
20:10and as usual political parties opposition they will ask for designation of the home minister
20:19and the health minister both are the department is handled by the CM herself
20:28and now the nurses are also demanding the safety and security in their workplaces
20:38they also staged protest but still now they are not striking but they are saying that if
20:47our demands are also not made we can go for dharna also so things are getting more difficult for
20:57administration and Mamata government and I just want to mention one thing Pankaj on 14th midnight
21:10Kolkata and adjoining districts all the districts in all the streets people were come out to support
21:20to to pay respect to the victims and the solidarity that that comes very organically
21:32for the people we are in the street we have seen the emotions were coming out we spoke with various
21:40people in various capacity they were they were actually crying some people are crying
21:47their mother to a doctor one lady we spoke with her daughter was also doctor
21:56and when we asked them that why you have come out at the midnight she said that we are fearing
22:04that this can be happen with my daughter also so this is the thing like normal people
22:13they are not they are not politically inclined to yes they are voters they vote for any party
22:19it is it is obvious but the mass gathered in the maximum number in the midnight and that somehow
22:29that somehow shaken the government and that is why Mamata did yesterday she came in the
22:37name of protest she marched on the streets and she her protest is also the same like
22:48she also demands the capital punishment whereas she is in the government so protesting against whom
22:56yes that is the main question that that opposition is asking so this is how things are going up
23:02and of course for last three days CBI has started investigation
23:07and the main part of the CBI investigation right now is what CBI is looking for is like
23:15looking for that conspiracy angle what happened at that night that was the main thing that CBI
23:21is trying to find out and if there is a security lapse on that particular day
23:28on that particular hospital RJ hospital and what happened on the day that that CBI is trying to
23:35interrogate Mr. Sandeep goes the ex-principal of this RJ hospital for last two days CBI is
23:42interrogating him and is trying to find out the conspiracy angle and Pankaj one thing I just
23:50want to mention here that what happened that day the version of the mother she spoke on the media
23:58what she told I am telling you
24:03before midnight one call come to her saying that I am the assistant super calling from RJ hospital
24:13and that person said that your daughter is ill please please come early to the hospital
24:20and then when they reached the hospital by 12 30 they were told that your daughter
24:28suicided okay so then from 12 30 to 3 pm they were sitting in the hospital
24:41in one of the floors where the girl was working that lady doctor was working and after two and
24:48half hours they come to see the body and the body was not in the shape of suicide or murder just
24:58it was brutal what she experienced and told us and later the most important thing the allegation
25:07that comes from the mother she was saying that foolish was trying to tamper the evidences that
25:15is much more important the mother version is saying that she's saying that foolish was trying
25:21to portray to her mother that her child that junior doctor was not in a good mind space
25:31she was depressed maybe that's why she suicided that she that mother was refused and also very
25:38importantly the mother said that foolish was trying to destroy the evidences that is there
25:48in her car that means foolish was trying to destroy the car that is also not happened but
25:55i'm just trying to say that there must be something beyond that what we are saying right now
26:04one person has arrested one civic volunteer civic police has arrested but what even mamata
26:11government is also saying if someone there it is not a crime of a single person it must be
26:20two three or four person or multiple person are there who are involved and who are still
26:26are not brought under the under the law so that is how now it's a duty of cbi
26:35that how fast they can move and arrest all the culprits
26:41right right that's very pretty important there and the kind of narratives you know efforts or
26:52attempts to change the crime scene and then hide the reality
26:58very unfortunate and politics aside politics again in these matters become such a dirty game
27:05but other than that also i was reading a caption where it said that
27:09uh
27:17and this is a tight slap on our faces that uh you know being living in this society how
27:26animal instincts take over and then the so-called caretakers of the common people the police the
27:35ministers they all start hiding around and you know trying to change the topic here
27:41british thank you so much for bringing us the details here and we are on one india following
27:47all the details so that are coming up from not just from kolkata but different parts of the
27:52country delhi as we speak is also witnessing the protest uh 24-hour protest is also on
27:57as of now so we will definitely keep you posted and keep our viewers posted meanwhile thank you
28:03so much for sharing the details thank you in the vicinity obviously of west bengal
28:13a couple of things that have happened first things first in jharkhand
28:19the former chief minister or i would say the accidental chief minister of jharkhand is now
28:26showing different colors all together what is happening is the plan to switch sides from gmm
28:32okay thank you pankaj uh so i will explain it in five uh brief points first of all uh i have
28:39no hesitation in saying that more than champai soren actually it is bjp who is eager to bag him
28:47uh just yesterday uh the former estate head of bjp in jharkhand he has categorically remarked that
28:54the champai soren was running a good government government in jharkhand so this kind of you know
29:02statements shows that how desperate the bharti ajanta party is to have somebody like champai
29:08soren and uh you you see in last sometime the kind of leadership bjp has had damaged the reputation
29:19of the party in the tribal state where it used to be the always the single largest party okay
29:27now why i think champai soren joining the bjp may be just a rumor or you know a political
29:39rhetoric i will explain it in these five points first of all champai soren
29:47if at all joining bjp he would join the bjp only on one condition if the party
29:56promises him the chief ministerial birth
30:02it will be very difficult for uh the bjp because the party already has so many cm experience like
30:10babu lal marandi now arjun munda seen as foreign recently uh shifted from jmm to bjp
30:17uh the elder daughter-in-law of uh the disom guru shivu sorenji amid all these candidates
30:25will bjp be able to you know uh float another name that is difficult if if if uh champai
30:36is not getting the assurance for you know uh becoming a chief minister why would he come to
30:43bjp while he is naturally the number two in the jharkhand mukti mota setup next thing the fourth
30:54point champai soren had been one of the most loyalist of shivu soren the close confidante i
31:04would say and this was the very reason when in trouble hemant soren you know uh believed upon him
31:14and he was uh sworn in as the chief minister of the state i don't think for just a petty games
31:22he will compromise with his loyalty right right right and fifth point in recently concluded
31:31election jharkhand mukti mota has nearly outperformed bjp and in in the run to the
31:41upcoming assembly election the early surveys are also giving an edge to the jmm now the question
31:50is would champai soren a seasoned leader bet on a losing horse so i don't see a probability of
32:01champai soren joining the bjp but end of the day it is politics where anything is possible
32:10right especially in the backyard of bihar uh you know the state which was carved out of
32:16bihar obviously has seen lots of dramatic political twists and turns since its inception
32:23i presume in 2000 when it came into being another important aspect keshav which is coming to the
32:30fore the assembly elections in jammu and kashmir and haryana election commission did not mention
32:35the dates for jharkhand and maharashtra which remains to be seen when are they going to be
32:41conducted uh probably in november or december but that would be very uh peak of winters let's see
32:48how it happens uh how do you read it first of all jammu and kashmir very uh critical situation
32:54tricky measures there and uh haryana again an open uh battleground for both congress and the bjp
33:01yeah uh i i see uh the election commission actually was forced to announce the dates
33:09for jammu and kashmir by the supreme court the dead line was coming closer it was inching closer
33:15so they have to do it and since haryana is also completing the term they have announced see uh
33:22i would just bring your attention to a point that you know uh the kind of shuffling uh the lg has
33:29done in jammu and kashmir i don't say it is a misuse of the power or misuse of the system but
33:36it is of course the kind of using the system in your favor first of the thing let us notice that
33:42just you know hours before the election commission was to announce the dates the changes were made
33:50definitely this election in jammu and kashmir is going to be a historical one historic election
33:56after the abrogation of 370 the the the value state is going to elect uh its local representative
34:04for the first time in last 10 years most uh uh surprising thing to me was to you know uh hold
34:16the election in only three phases the valley has seen the assembly election in multiple phases
34:22always more than three phases i am not sure if the government is quite confident or they are
34:31you know running the election in multiple stages raises the security and safety concern as well
34:38is it the reason why they have you know chosen to to reduce the phases so that the convoy will
34:47also move in sizable numbers in the bigger numbers which will you know give little edge
34:52in terms of maintaining the safety and security secondly for haryana as you said of course i even
34:59i don't see there is any third party while in ld and jjp would of course fight to find some space
35:07but it is a head-on fight between the bjp and the congress in haryana bjp looks to be in little more
35:14formidable uh position that's why i see the the same in 96 90 seats in haryana is going to you
35:23know uh going into election in one phase while for jammu and kashmir definitely there are geographical
35:28challenges but elections are happening there in three phases how i see these elections and of
35:36course the upcoming uh election in two more states that in jharkhand and maharashtra is definitely a
35:42short referendum on the newly elected uh modi led coalition government in the center i do look
35:51or these elections in this perspective right thank you so much keshav for detailing the
35:59upcoming assembly elections in jammu and kashmir and haryana one thing is for sure that all the
36:05political parties will try to put their best foot forward there thank you keshav for joining us and
36:10now from the central part of india to down south tamilnadu where politics is also picking up as
36:17the temperature as well dmk is closing towards the bjp vira how do you see it is this a fact
36:23or a fiction uh in the reason uh this uh recent scenarios is indicating towards us and this is
36:33become the talk of the town in chennai and in tamilnadu because uh here in dmk they are getting
36:40the votes uh most of them from the anti uh bjp votes only they are getting more uh vote share
36:47from anti d uh bjp vote share uh but earlier days when the jailer that was alive uh she used to get
36:55uh some amount of votes but nowadays the admk and bjp is seeing as alliance partners even though
37:01they are not in the same boat uh the people of tamilnadu is looking in the same way so
37:08the dmk is harvesting anti-bjp votes fully in tamilnadu but in recent days these um
37:17talks about why these talks is coming no this uh uh earlier in the today's back uh tamilnadu
37:25governor uh arun ravi invited uh uh dmk admk and all the parties to their tea party but uh dmk is
37:35uh um actually uh yeah actually the dmk officially uh denied to uh participate that uh tea party
37:45but uh afterwards what happened nobody knows but uh dmk uh leaders including chief minister
37:54tamilnadu participated in the tea party this is the reason why the speculation is going on right
38:00now in tamilnadu and uh dmk is known for uh uh uh this type of politics uh one who is observing the
38:12tamilnadu politics is knows very well uh this is creating confusion among not only in the dmk
38:18party men and admk leaders as well right we are also talking about ai bmk uh many say that it is
38:27on a slippery ground as of now do you think the bjp will overtake the idmk in the upcoming assembly
38:33election yes that is their uh uh only agenda in tamilnadu as of now and uh anomaly and senior
38:41party getters including amisha is planning uh towards that actually they have a big plan bigger
