The Block AU S20 Episode 4 - Main Bathroom Reveal
Transcript
00:00:00Previously, we pitched our tents on Phillip Island, where our brand new blockheads will
00:00:12be renovating an old holiday retreat into five luxury homes.
00:00:20This is mental.
00:00:21Amongst these talented teams, there's five trains.
00:00:32Plumber.
00:00:33Yeah, man.
00:00:34Summer Sparky.
00:00:35There's the West Aussies, Jessie and Paige.
00:00:38He's a chippy, she's a claims specialist.
00:00:41Our Sydney side is Courtney and Grant.
00:00:45She's into furniture design and he's into landscaping.
00:00:50Victorian best mates, Ricky and Hayden.
00:00:53Ricky's a plumber, Hayden's in IT.
00:00:58North Queenslanders, Carly and Brad.
00:01:00Carly's a hairdresser and Brad's a double threat.
00:01:03He's a sparky and a plumber.
00:01:07And for our South Aussies, Christian's a sparky and his wife Mimi is an aspiring performer
00:01:12slash restaurant manager.
00:01:16But he spent no time mucking around, pushing our team straight into the deep end.
00:01:22Oh my goodness.
00:01:23Let's do it.
00:01:24House three, baby.
00:01:25And gave them the hardest room first up, the main bathroom.
00:01:31Let's cheat it.
00:01:32Come on.
00:01:33Let's go.
00:01:34I can't get it on my head.
00:01:35We're going to present like a room with nothing in it.
00:01:37Oh, there was not just bathroom building.
00:01:39I'm going to be an uncle.
00:01:41Give me a hug, babe.
00:01:43We also have the birth of a block baby.
00:01:46The best feeling in my life ever.
00:01:49Tonight.
00:01:51Saturday was a scorcher.
00:01:54The first reveal of the year.
00:01:57Today is the day that we need to get everything done.
00:02:02What a disaster of a start this is.
00:02:04But it's a hot finish.
00:02:05It's hot in here.
00:02:06That gets a little fiery.
00:02:07It's pretty common practice.
00:02:08It's not.
00:02:09It's not.
00:02:10I had a breakdown this morning.
00:02:11It'll work out.
00:02:12It's all right.
00:02:13And the judges add to the heat wave when they don't see eye to eye.
00:02:24I don't want to come to Phillip Island and be in Melbourne.
00:02:26It can't be canary yellow.
00:02:28Why?
00:02:29Just white.
00:02:30It's enough.
00:02:31This is going to be possibly the biggest disaster we've seen in 20 seasons.
00:02:36Oh, horns are going to lock on this one.
00:02:39I threw everything at you guys this week.
00:02:41Good night.
00:02:42Good night.
00:02:43A bathroom in week one straight out of the blocks.
00:02:46But for some, it wasn't a hot start to the block as one of you failed to finish.
00:03:22Now that we've got through the first week, it's so rewarding and I'm just looking forward
00:03:27to the next 11 weeks.
00:03:28That's pretty strange to say after...
00:03:29The week we just had.
00:03:30Yeah.
00:03:31Yeah, come here, you.
00:03:32My motto for the week, keep going.
00:03:33You actually cannot stop.
00:03:34Get in there, Kylie.
00:03:35Watch the train.
00:03:36Are we still laughing, having fun?
00:03:37Still laughing, having fun.
00:03:38I'm still yelling at him.
00:03:39So that's always a good sign.
00:03:40We're up this way.
00:03:41Yeah.
00:03:42Pivot.
00:03:43Pivot.
00:03:44Pivot.
00:03:45Pivot.
00:03:46Pivot.
00:03:47Pivot.
00:03:48Pivot.
00:03:49Pivot.
00:03:50Pivot.
00:03:51Pivot.
00:03:52I thrive on this.
00:03:53What do you mean?
00:03:54You were like...
00:03:55I'm dying right now.
00:03:56Yeah.
00:03:57I'm dying inside, you guys.
00:03:58Let's see what we're in for.
00:04:01I knew the block would be a wild experience, but the amount of stuff that happened in just
00:04:07seven days was absolutely wild.
00:04:10Saturday was a scorcher.
00:04:27It was hot.
00:04:28We're back in Perth.
00:04:31The block feels like a heat pit as well.
00:04:34Here it comes.
00:04:36Not only is the site hot, the competition is heating up too.
00:04:44Yep.
00:04:45We're set to see five very distinct styles revealed to the judges in less than 26 hours.
00:04:53As to Sydney's side, as Courtney and Grant are rolling two design styles into one.
00:04:59Mediterranean.
00:05:00Mediterranean.
00:05:01Yeah.
00:05:03So we're thinking of sandstone, travertine, like American oak, brushed gold, pops of marble
00:05:09and something that appeals to a lot of people, but is still a little bit beachy.
00:05:17American oak sounds very Mediterranean.
00:05:20Modern Mediterranean.
00:05:21Oh, okay.
00:05:22In house four, the parents from North Queensland, Carly and Brad, want to showcase their love
00:05:30of a particular colour.
00:05:32Black.
00:05:33Gimme black.
00:05:34All black.
00:05:35All black.
00:05:36There's no bath, but they do have a black toilet.
00:05:37Black, black, black, black, black.
00:05:38They'll be like, what do you want?
00:05:39Show me black.
00:05:40For South Aussie newlyweds, Christian and Mimi, they're bringing the fashion to the
00:05:41table.
00:05:42Black, black, black, black, black.
00:05:43Black.
00:05:44Black.
00:05:45Black.
00:05:46Black.
00:05:47Black.
00:05:48Black.
00:05:49Black.
00:05:50Black.
00:05:51Black.
00:05:52Black.
00:05:53Black.
00:05:54Black.
00:05:55Black.
00:05:56Black.
00:05:57Black.
00:05:58Black.
00:05:59Black.
00:06:01They're bringing the good vibes in house five's bathroom.
00:06:02The holiday home that we're trying to create is a contemporary coastal kind of vibe that's
00:06:09welcoming and fresh.
00:06:10Soothing.
00:06:11Soothing, yeah.
00:06:12Like, everyone that comes into our house says, this place is so zen.
00:06:13You guys are so zen.
00:06:14Why?
00:06:15It's got a really calming nature to it.
00:06:16It's really nice.
00:06:17And the fact that people can feel that too, that's cool.
00:06:18The West Aussies in house one, Jessie and Paige, know what they want, but just can't
00:06:35put their finger on it.
00:06:37I can't tell you if this is going to make sense to any interior designers out there,
00:06:42but it's all up here.
00:06:45What we are going for in our home is something fresh, timeless.
00:06:53I love my blues.
00:06:54I love my greens.
00:06:55And I think that is very appropriate here.
00:06:58And I think that leans more towards our timeless approach rather than being, like, ultra-trendy.
00:07:04Instagrammable.
00:07:05Don't say that word.
00:07:06I feel like I'm alive.
00:07:07I feel like I'm alive.
00:07:08I feel like I'm alive.
00:07:09I feel like I'm alive.
00:07:10I feel like I'm alive.
00:07:11I feel like I'm alive.
00:07:12And then there's Victorian boys, Ricky and Hope in house three.
00:07:18The main considerations of bathroom is, number one, it's got to have a bath.
00:07:25Yeah.
00:07:26Yep.
00:07:27Genius.
00:07:28I think going with our design theme and going with modern coastal with a touch of Scandinavian
00:07:33in it certainly was within our plans.
00:07:38With so much at stake, 10,000 bucks from Ford, 100,000 bucks from Camerage, and an E&S barbecue,
00:07:45all totaling $140,000.
00:07:48It's anyone's guess who will win.
00:07:59In house five, South Aussies Christian and Mimi have the busiest and biggest bathroom
00:08:04on the block.
00:08:08So we have everyone in here today just trying to get us over the line.
00:08:12That's why we feel really positive.
00:08:14Because yesterday was a bit stressful for us.
00:08:20Ali, do you want me to cut for you?
00:08:22Most of the stress at house five stem from the slow pace of their solo, Tyler.
00:08:27He doesn't know reveal Sunday, yeah?
00:08:29Yeah.
00:08:30Yeah.
00:08:31He's been by himself for the last two days, so it's just really ... do all my head in.
00:08:38Luckily for Christian and Mimi, their Tyler has today brought some extra hands.
00:08:43Yeah, baby.
00:08:45Oh, yeah.
00:08:46So that'll be done, what, another hour, they'll be finished?
00:08:48Not even.
00:08:49I was like, we're going to hand over a room this Sunday.
00:08:52It is on.
00:08:53But it's also like, why didn't you bring your sons the other days?
00:09:01I think we're going all right now.
00:09:03We've got electricians, we've got plumbers, we've got chippies, we've got Tylers.
00:09:06We still have to put our vanity in.
00:09:15What could go wrong?
00:09:22So you've got 150, right?
00:09:24Then you've got the depth of your bowl, which is one third.
00:09:27Then your vanity.
00:09:29There was a miscommunication with what the top of the vanity was,
00:09:32but it was actually the top of the bowl.
00:09:35So when they pre-drew the holes, it was without the bowls included,
00:09:38but you needed to include the bowls.
00:09:40Everything has to be dropped 130mm.
00:09:45Are these going to be exposed?
00:09:47That's the question.
00:09:49No stress.
00:09:50No stress, that was a lot of work.
00:09:54Next door in house four, Carly is painting something that isn't completely black.
00:09:59She's creating an original artwork to hang in her bathroom.
00:10:03I thought with the vein in my marble, in my Dekton,
00:10:08because I don't have any colour in there,
00:10:10I thought why not brighten it up with a bit of neon orange and neon pink.
00:10:14I've done a few at home.
00:10:17So I painted this, and this, and this.
00:10:22I actually think it represents me, oddly.
00:10:25I'm going to be a little bit mortified if the judges just go like,
00:10:28that is just horrendous.
00:10:33In house two, Courtney and Grant are angry with their builders
00:10:36as the building process has caused a change to their design.
00:10:40I had a breakdown this morning.
00:10:42Yous already?
00:10:43Yeah.
00:10:46Yesterday they caught their builders breaking the rules
00:10:48by letting an uninsured glazier install the shower screen.
00:10:53Doug, we explained exactly what had to happen,
00:10:56and you dropped behind our back.
00:10:59The shower screen was installed too early,
00:11:01where it's delayed our tilers,
00:11:03and plasterers unfortunately couldn't finish the Venetian plaster.
00:11:07And the added installation of the vanity
00:11:09was held up by the tilers and plasterers as well.
00:11:13So that means no Venetian plaster.
00:11:17And Grant is holding his builder, Doug, responsible.
00:11:20Doug was adamant on putting that screen in.
00:11:22Doug was adamant on putting that vanity in
00:11:24when everyone told him not to put it in.
00:11:25Look at him twirling around the vanity.
00:11:27Pretty common practice, but yeah, all right, it's fine.
00:11:29It's not common practice.
00:11:30It is.
00:11:31And you don't put a $3,000 stone top around
00:11:33when people are trying to Venetian plaster.
00:11:35That's not a standard practice.
00:11:36Everything you and Doug have been saying is going,
00:11:39standard practice, standard practice.
00:11:40It's not.
00:11:41It's not.
00:11:42It's not because we haven't...
00:11:43Also, we have to, from here, can Rob come back and sand off?
00:11:45No, he won't come back today.
00:11:46I've got to sand off.
00:11:48He won't come back and sand off?
00:11:49He won't come back, no.
00:11:50And he wasn't happy to be working around a shower screen either,
00:11:53which I don't blame him.
00:11:54That's pretty much what it is.
00:11:56It's been a domino effect.
00:11:57Stone top vanity in the way didn't help either.
00:11:59Yeah, it was just...
00:12:00Probably not the smartest call for them to install that.
00:12:03It's all right.
00:12:04It'll be all right.
00:12:05It'll work out.
00:12:06Get the tilers to do their job,
00:12:07because they're the only ones doing their job right.
00:12:09No.
00:12:10Everybody else isn't.
00:12:11Plaster's had a go.
00:12:12Plaster's had a go, but the shower screen...
00:12:14It's all because of the shower...
00:12:15The shower screen and the vanity,
00:12:16which both shouldn't have went in.
00:12:17And I'm sorry, but it's not standard practice
00:12:19to put a shower screen in before tiling changes.
00:12:21No.
00:12:22We would have had Venetian plaster if that wasn't in there.
00:12:24They would have been able to do that last night.
00:12:27It's just disappointing, because we have this vision,
00:12:29and, you know, I'm really confident
00:12:31that the bathroom can be amazing.
00:12:32We put so much money into it, and also time,
00:12:35and now, like, it is out of our control.
00:12:39To make matters worse,
00:12:40Grant's just discovered his brand-new toilet
00:12:43is busted up big time.
00:12:46Honestly, how the f*** did they break the toilet?
00:12:49What a disaster of a start.
00:12:51This is...
00:12:53It's all right.
00:12:54Oh, no.
00:12:55Don't let it break you.
00:12:56Don't let it break you. It's all right.
00:13:09It's mid-afternoon,
00:13:10the day before the first reveal for our brand-new blockheads.
00:13:16We've got busy bathrooms...
00:13:20..a stinking hot site...
00:13:23..and in house two, a busted Thunderbox.
00:13:29We found a smashed toilet,
00:13:31so that was one issue that we had to get on top of.
00:13:34Bring up Rhys.
00:13:35There might be a chance that they've got this one there.
00:13:40Rhys Bathroom, Life Richmond. This is Stuart.
00:13:44Hey, mate. What's going on?
00:13:47Uh, OK.
00:13:48I've got one on display, so I can send it out.
00:13:52Cool. Easy. No problems.
00:13:55And then it was also the...
00:13:58Paint. ..Venetian plaster, which we couldn't do,
00:14:01so then we had to pivot and think of another idea.
00:14:03Yeah.
00:14:04We're doing, like, a textured paint.
00:14:13Paint.
00:14:14Paint.
00:14:15Paint.
00:14:16Paint.
00:14:17We had to make a really quick decision.
00:14:19We had to make a really quick decision.
00:14:21That's pretty much what we want to achieve, really.
00:14:23OK.
00:14:24Um, either Close Encounter...
00:14:26Yep. ..or Snow Vista.
00:14:28Just these two.
00:14:29I think that's gonna be a bigger contrast to your Travertine,
00:14:32or that'll blend in a little bit.
00:14:33I like the idea of it all blending in.
00:14:35So, go with that one.
00:14:36So, we're going for the Close Encounter?
00:14:38Perfect. That's the one.
00:14:39Get back to it. Yep.
00:14:43Oh, wow.
00:14:44Also out at Mart at 10...
00:14:46See how many I can carry.
00:14:48..is Kylie from House 4,
00:14:50making a mercy dash for last-minute supplies.
00:14:55Today is the day that we need to get everything done.
00:14:58I had another big night of painting again,
00:15:00so that was something I was not looking forward to.
00:15:02What are you here for, Kylie?
00:15:04I need more paint.
00:15:05More?
00:15:07I've run out.
00:15:09I got really frazzled yesterday
00:15:11and assumed that I happened to just pick up two litres.
00:15:16And I have a lot to paint.
00:15:21I needed to get some coats down of my black Urban Myth paint,
00:15:25cos, you know, everyone kept telling me
00:15:27how hard it is to paint a dark fibre wall.
00:15:30I just assumed it would roll on like chiprock, but it doesn't.
00:15:33You have a good day. Thank you.
00:15:35Thank you so much.
00:15:37I won't have a good day.
00:15:39MUSIC PLAYS
00:15:45And Kylie's bad day turns bright
00:15:47when she arrives back on site
00:15:49and sees the progress of House 4's bathroom is on track.
00:15:56I love the look.
00:15:57It's completely what I was picturing.
00:15:59Yeah. Nailed it.
00:16:01And the shower screen is in too.
00:16:04And it's in.
00:16:05Beautiful.
00:16:06What's left?
00:16:08Painting.
00:16:12With the daylight hours dwindling,
00:16:14Jessie and Paige's bathroom in House 1
00:16:16looks to be the furthest from the finish line.
00:16:19We didn't want to rush and put up something that was subpar.
00:16:24We want to deliver perfection, hopefully.
00:16:27But there's a heap of work still to do
00:16:29before they can even come close to perfection.
00:16:34So, on Saturday, to get our room finished for room reveal Sunday morning,
00:16:39we had to hang the door, install the shower screen,
00:16:43install the vanity cabinet, install the shaving cabinet,
00:16:47install the bath, install the toilet,
00:16:50install the tapware, install the lights,
00:16:52finish all the tiles, and there was a lot of them,
00:16:55and also silicon, caulking, grouting, and...
00:16:59Painting the ceiling. Painting the ceiling.
00:17:01Painting the door. Sanding the door.
00:17:04Do we name any things?
00:17:05Get it done. Get it right.
00:17:07In the videos. Let it rip.
00:17:11In House 5, after hanging the vanity too high for the plumbing,
00:17:15Christian and Mimi's team have worked hard to fix the problem.
00:17:18How thick's the bowl?
00:17:20130, so now we know our stone is, what, 12mm?
00:17:2312mm, yeah.
00:17:24Let's make it 10mm.
00:17:25That, fellas, is top of your cabinet,
00:17:28and it'll work out fine cos your stone will cover that.
00:17:31It wasn't a huge issue cos all they had to do
00:17:33was redraw a couple holes on the vanity unit,
00:17:35so it probably only set us back about half an hour,
00:17:37but because the vanity didn't get installed when it did,
00:17:40the plumbers were then delayed, the sparkies were then delayed,
00:17:43so every time something goes wrong, it sort of has a ripple effect.
00:17:47No biggie. I'll keep smiling.
00:17:51Over in House 2...
00:17:55..Foreman Dan has a special delivery to dump on our Sydney sides.
00:17:59Why look so awfully tragic?
00:18:01Put on a happy face.
00:18:03Hello!
00:18:04Smiling can work like magic.
00:18:06Hooray!
00:18:07Put on a happy face.
00:18:09Oh, it's getting heavy.
00:18:10Don't, don't, don't, don't!
00:18:11Don't drop it.
00:18:12Oh, I got it.
00:18:13So tell me, Grant, who's ultimately responsible
00:18:15for the storage of items on your site?
00:18:17Are you putting to me?
00:18:19What a gorgeous toilet.
00:18:21No, don't, don't sit on it.
00:18:27Next door, Victorian plumber Ricky is holding down the fort,
00:18:31while his team-mate Aidan is still off-site with his newborn baby.
00:18:35So I meant I was going to have to do double the painting
00:18:38and meant I was going to have to do double the cleaning.
00:18:41There's a massive difference between two and four hands.
00:18:44Yo, are we back?
00:18:46No, I'm not going to the day spa.
00:18:48I'm going to the beach.
00:18:55I felt like my brain needed a bit of a refresh.
00:18:58I got all, like, dust up in my sinuses.
00:19:01So I nicked down to the beach quickly,
00:19:04and I know that the best way to get that dust out of there
00:19:08is to do a backflip off a pier into the salty water.
00:19:13That was some of the worst gymnastics you've probably ever seen.
00:19:17I'm refreshed.
00:19:19I've got no more dust in my sinuses.
00:19:21I'm cleared, and now I'm ready to go back
00:19:23and hit a massive night to finish the bathroom off,
00:19:26so I'm feeling good.
00:19:28So we got all the plumbing fitted off.
00:19:31Electricians did their thing.
00:19:33TIles came up pretty well.
00:19:35I've got to paint all these lining boards,
00:19:37I've got to finish painting the door.
00:19:39I've got to do all the maintenance,
00:19:41and I've got to do the water 링,
00:19:43and I've got to do water 링.
00:19:45And I've got to finish painting the tail lights and the tail lights,
00:19:48and I've got to finish painting the front and the back windows.
00:19:51did their thing. Tiles came up pretty well. I've got to paint all these lining boards.
00:19:56I've got to finish painting the door. I've got to finish some grouting.
00:20:00I've got to caulk the whole bathroom, clean it, and then style it.
00:20:05I'm going until this is done because I'm not having Hayden come back
00:20:08and find out that we didn't finish the bathroom, that it turned out ****, or I failed him.
00:20:17So in my head, I was just like, don't stop because we're tired. Stop because we're done.
00:20:23I'm not going to lie to you. I'm going to be concerned in my painting talents.
00:20:26Most of my paintings have been in art class in year nine, but how hard can it be, right?
00:20:36We put a lot of effort into this room.
00:20:38We have. A lot of sweat.
00:20:39How hot was it while you guys were painting?
00:20:41Holy ****.
00:20:43It was...
00:20:44Do you want to describe what I looked like, Courtney?
00:20:48Grant was like a giant sponge.
00:20:50You've got beads of sweat on your head.
00:20:52I know. I'm a fat boy. I stunk. That was ridiculous.
00:20:57It was filthy.
00:21:01All around the bottom has to be black. Just not the V-locks. That's all white.
00:21:06I will be down to the wire. I'll make sure I finish.
00:21:11Put in every effort to get it done.
00:21:12Every effort. Mums get **** done.
00:21:17But over at house one, Jessie and Paige still have a mountain to climb.
00:21:22I'm still hopeful that we're going to finish the room. It wasn't until 3am Sunday.
00:21:29That's when I went, maybe not.
00:21:34I'm just so sick of like the constant like doom and gloom from you.
00:21:40Like you haven't been positive at all this whole **** week. It's been tiring.
00:21:45I know there's a ton of **** to do. I'm not complaining about it like you are.
00:22:11Still like it?
00:22:13I won't be as soon as you start talking.
00:22:16Good.
00:22:17Mate, come here. Missed ya.
00:22:19You alright?
00:22:21Yeah, right.
00:22:22Can you hear me?
00:22:22I'm good now.
00:22:23Daddy's back.
00:22:25Not until the painting was done.
00:22:26But yeah, thanks man.
00:22:28I'm good now.
00:22:31Hard to leave the family this morning to come back.
00:22:33Yeah. Didn't want to leave. Definitely didn't want to let go of it.
00:22:38I said to Chels, we're doing this for a reason.
00:22:44It's not going to be easy, but I'm going to do it.
00:22:48We're going to do it.
00:22:49100% bro.
00:22:51Welcome mate. Do you want to come have a look?
00:22:52Yeah man, I'd love to.
00:22:53Let's go.
00:22:55Alright, you rock up, you come back. What do you think about the work you did?
00:22:59Rick absolutely smashed it.
00:23:03Wow, those tiles are sick.
00:23:07Mate, would you have styled it any better?
00:23:08It's done bloody well.
00:23:09Yeah?
00:23:11Maybe you should leave me alone more often.
00:23:14Rick did an amazing job. I was shocked. I didn't want to touch anything.
00:23:19Nicely done bro.
00:23:22Couldn't be more proud of him. He delivered.
00:23:26Ricky.
00:23:27Yeah, pass us a rag. Go on, keep cleaning.
00:23:30Oh, daddy's home.
00:23:33Daddy's home mate.
00:23:34Uncle Scotty.
00:23:35I'm back.
00:23:35I'm not coming in, I've got my boots on.
00:23:36No worries mate.
00:23:37Welcome back.
00:23:38He made it back mate.
00:23:40You had nothing to do with this bathroom.
00:23:42You did not build a bathroom, you built a human.
00:23:44Hey, I did, I did, yep.
00:23:46You built a human.
00:23:47I built a human.
00:23:48So I thought you can come with me and do Tools Down.
00:23:52Let's do it.
00:23:53Because you're really not a contestant at the moment.
00:23:56Scotty gave me the absolute honour of calling out Tools Down,
00:24:01and I don't think that's ever happened on any other block series ever before.
00:24:12So tell me guys about the final hours on Approach to Tools Down.
00:24:17It wasn't crowded.
00:24:18It was actually pretty fun.
00:24:22I don't think I've had to be on my hands and knees that much before.
00:24:25That's what I was like, do you get muscles in your knees?
00:24:28And now they're like mixed out.
00:24:31Are you guys happy with the result?
00:24:33Yeah, we are happy.
00:24:33Yeah.
00:24:34Actually, are you happy?
00:24:35Yeah, we did a lot better than I thought we were going to do.
00:24:37Oh wow.
00:24:37Especially.
00:24:38My styling.
00:24:40I never want to see this room again.
00:24:43I can't believe we're actually here,
00:24:45considering all the obstacles that were thrown at us.
00:24:49But we made it.
00:24:5110 seconds to Tools Down.
00:24:5310?
00:24:54I've waited my whole life
00:24:56to hear Scotty Cam tell me to put my tools down.
00:25:04Here we go.
00:25:05I feel pumped.
00:25:06It's one...
00:25:07Well, it's nine o'clock on the knocker.
00:25:08All right, let's do it.
00:25:09Okay, here we go.
00:25:12Tools Down!
00:25:14Yay!
00:25:17Love you.
00:25:19Well done.
00:25:20Yes.
00:25:21Is that rags down too?
00:25:24Ah, ****.
00:25:26We put absolutely everything into finishing that bathroom,
00:25:32and we fell short.
00:25:35At least it's half crowded.
00:25:37I felt really disappointed in myself.
00:25:40I felt like a failure.
00:25:41I felt incredibly inadequate.
00:25:43But I think once we moved past those emotions,
00:25:46we were really happy with our room.
00:25:49I'm so proud of it, even if it was incomplete.
00:25:52I think you can't be mad.
00:25:54That is beautiful, right?
00:25:55If you actually look at it just from here, like that.
00:25:59Whoa.
00:26:00Oh, my God.
00:26:01I can see it in the mirror.
00:26:02Look at that.
00:26:03Oh, yeah, ****, you can see it in the mirror.
00:26:05The block is a humbling experience.
00:26:15Hello.
00:26:16Hi.
00:26:16How are you going?
00:26:17Good.
00:26:22Well, welcome, guys.
00:26:23You look fantastic.
00:26:25Thanks.
00:26:27Hayden, Dad, you're back.
00:26:33Congratulations.
00:26:35Welcome to the world, Tilly.
00:26:36Fantastic.
00:26:37Appreciate it.
00:26:40I threw everything at you guys this week, didn't I?
00:26:42Yeah, you did.
00:26:43A bathroom in week one straight out of the blocks.
00:26:46And I'm guessing that you worked out building a bathroom on an island
00:26:51has its own set of challenges.
00:26:53And then at the very last minute, I tossed in a heat wave.
00:26:58It was hot, wasn't it?
00:26:59Yeah, cheers for that, mate.
00:27:01Speaking of heating up, I have heated up the prizes this week, too.
00:27:05Starting with 10,000 bucks from Ford.
00:27:08Cash.
00:27:09You've got to win that.
00:27:10Then, of course, we've tacked on a 30 grand Wolf BBQ from E&S Trading.
00:27:15Absolutely magnificent.
00:27:17And, of course, $100,000 voucher to Cambridge Furniture.
00:27:25Extraordinary.
00:27:26It is game changing, this prize.
00:27:29So let's find out who's going to win it with some feedback from the judges.
00:27:35Deciding who wins this week and every week are our judges.
00:27:40This is unbelievable.
00:27:47Amazing.
00:28:01Season 20.
00:28:03Crazy.
00:28:05OK, Jessie and Paige, you are first because you're house one.
00:28:09You're going to be first every week.
00:28:10Yep.
00:28:11Awesome.
00:28:15I'm so happy.
00:28:17We're down near the coast.
00:28:18I know.
00:28:19Super relaxed, a bit more like home.
00:28:21Phillip Island, the hustle and bustle of Melbourne is just not us WA people, is it?
00:28:26This week was, for me personally, very overwhelming.
00:28:30We're on the block.
00:28:33This is where our journey starts.
00:28:37This week we did our main bathroom, our very first bathroom on the block.
00:28:40Scotty suggested $20,000 from Convac for our budget.
00:28:44Are you nervous?
00:28:45A little bit.
00:28:46No, you're not.
00:28:49Timber should have been here.
00:28:50He told me eight o'clock.
00:28:51We've just lost three hours not having Timber here.
00:28:54I know.
00:28:55We're going to be under control here.
00:28:57I want to be the first one to finish each week and walk around to people's houses and be like,
00:29:02do you guys want a hand?
00:29:03Finished over there.
00:29:04Done.
00:29:04We finished where Tuesday with sub four still incomplete.
00:29:10I can't get out of my head that it's like, we're going to present like a room with nothing in it.
00:29:14This is painful.
00:29:16Yeah, this is a terrible week.
00:29:21You need to find some sort of compromise for me.
00:29:23I've seen nothing but accommodating for you.
00:29:26Find it for me.
00:29:26I've been nothing but accommodating for you.
00:29:30Don't smile.
00:29:31No need to smile, honey.
00:29:33You've got a lot of toiling to do.
00:29:35We do.
00:29:35You know.
00:29:36I'm not starting the block on a fail.
00:29:44Okay, door shut.
00:29:46Blood, sweat and tears.
00:29:51We kind of fell behind the line pretty early on in the week and we're playing catch up.
00:29:58That's why we ended up where we ended up.
00:30:00Yeah.
00:30:00I'm not going to lie.
00:30:01I'm not going to lie.
00:30:02I'm not going to lie.
00:30:02I'm not going to lie.
00:30:03I'm not going to lie.
00:30:04I'm not going to lie.
00:30:04I'm not going to lie.
00:30:05I'm not going to lie.
00:30:05Yeah.
00:30:06But I was also really proud of the effort we put in as a team.
00:30:17I'm most proud of the styling.
00:30:19I really am.
00:30:20I love, love, love my choices and if I could put that in every bathroom, I would.
00:30:24And if I get to do my own house one day, I'm probably going to do it the same.
00:30:29Just with more tiles.
00:30:32Oh!
00:30:36Oh wow, Jesse and Paige.
00:30:39Wow, they would have thought they were coming to do a challenge room
00:30:42and the fact that they had to do a bathroom has thrown them and you could really tell.
00:30:49How can you tell?
00:30:50It's not finished, the poor things.
00:30:52And Jesse is a builder and it's not finished.
00:30:56Oh, he must be gutted.
00:30:59As soon as you decide to tile floor to ceiling, you're making a rod for your own back.
00:31:04Plan well and execute well if you want to win over these judges.
00:31:10There's a chippy within this team and to have a room unfinished for me,
00:31:15I believe that there is no excuses.
00:31:16If other teams have finished this week and this team hasn't,
00:31:20my margin for error is very, very small.
00:31:25So I hope that they understand that if they're on the block,
00:31:27you do everything that you can in your power politely to finish your room.
00:31:32And this is an unfinished room.
00:31:44It's time for you to decide which contestants you think have created this week's winning room.
00:31:49All you have to do is head to the Block website now to cast your vote.
00:31:53And don't miss the results a little later in the show.
00:32:03For the folks at home, we're standing in a tin shed and it's 40 degrees outside.
00:32:11We need towels for the contestants.
00:32:16And water.
00:32:28Here we go.
00:32:29Okay, Jesse and Paige.
00:32:32Marty Fox knows you're a chippy, Jesse.
00:32:35So he thinks you should be prepared for anything and everything when it comes to the build.
00:32:43If they're on the block, you do everything that you can in your power to finish your room.
00:32:48And this is an unfinished room.
00:32:50Every year, Shona says to contestants,
00:32:53you don't have to tile floor to ceiling when you have to deliver a bathroom inside of a week.
00:32:59There's a lot of labour in putting these sheets up of tiles and money.
00:33:04So look at where you can save money and time.
00:33:07And the thing is, you don't have to fully tile every bathroom, every wall.
00:33:12Darren picked up on the interesting shape room.
00:33:15This is tricky.
00:33:16I mean, we have a big shower.
00:33:17We have an external edge facing into the radius of a door.
00:33:21There's lots going on.
00:33:23It feels a little hectic.
00:33:25Shona luckily did have some positives.
00:33:28Really?
00:33:30I have to say, I'm loving materials that they've used here.
00:33:33The brushed chrome, I think it's actually quite sexy.
00:33:35It's beautiful.
00:33:36And I'm loving the big form tile.
00:33:38We've got really large 1200 there.
00:33:41And then we've got this gorgeous little texture on the vanity.
00:33:45It's wide, but it's got a beautiful size basin.
00:33:48I think the great thing is that this is servicing two bedrooms.
00:33:52So I feel like the storage is a big tick.
00:33:54She praised you for including underfloor heating too.
00:33:58We are in Phillip Island.
00:33:59We are sweating like nothing else at the moment.
00:34:01But it is freezing winter and we have underfloor heating, which I'm really excited about.
00:34:07Feels like there's underfloor heating in here, doesn't it?
00:34:09Literally.
00:34:10OK, that's it, Jessie and Paige.
00:34:12One room down, 11 to go.
00:34:14Welcome to the block.
00:34:18You know what?
00:34:18It's not upsetting.
00:34:19It's actually incredibly motivating because any feedback, bad or good,
00:34:22you really got to take it on board.
00:34:24So that's what I'm going to do.
00:34:25I'm going to push hard to, yeah, win over the judges, especially Marty.
00:34:30OK, house two, Courtney and Grant.
00:34:43If you had to summarise this week in a sentence?
00:34:46Hot mess.
00:34:49It's bathroom week, Courtney.
00:34:51Put your floor plans.
00:34:52Where does it say that?
00:34:53It's bathroom week, right at the top in big bold letters.
00:34:58It's a really central part of the house, like.
00:35:00That's what sells the house, is your kitchen, bathroom, so I believe.
00:35:04I'm thinking a bit more of like a modern Mediterranean look.
00:35:07All right.
00:35:07Mediterranean.
00:35:08Mediterranean.
00:35:09All right, so we're locking in the mineral travertine.
00:35:13All right, done, yeah.
00:35:14Courtney doesn't look at a price tag.
00:35:16After we fix the framing, we have sheeting of plaster, then we have waterproofing.
00:35:22So, yeah, we're behind where I want it to be.
00:35:28Nah, that needs to be done right.
00:35:30We've made mistakes.
00:35:32The builders have made mistakes.
00:35:33There's no doubt.
00:35:34There's been a lot of mistakes.
00:35:39We finished waterproofing at 1am on Friday morning, so Thursday night.
00:35:44Friday morning, so Thursday night, essentially.
00:35:48All right, let's do it.
00:35:49We're done.
00:35:50I styled it.
00:35:51I've designed it.
00:35:52And if we win this week, you'll thank me.
00:35:54I delivered it.
00:35:54Sorry, I swore.
00:35:56Whatever.
00:35:57Potty mouth.
00:36:04I feel really confident.
00:36:05I feel like we've produced a really nice bathroom.
00:36:07I think they're going to like it.
00:36:10Now we're talking.
00:36:14Oh, that feels spacious.
00:36:22This is Instagramable.
00:36:23This is a better layout.
00:36:27Marty thinks it's an amazing floor plan.
00:36:30Standing in the centre, vanity, shower, toilet, bath.
00:36:35Incredible materiality.
00:36:36Like these tiles are stunning.
00:36:39And I love these handles.
00:36:41They almost look like shells off the beach.
00:36:42Yeah.
00:36:44Shona, like the other two judges, was immediately very impressed with your bathroom.
00:36:51It's like this couple heard us in the house before, but you don't have to tile floor to ceiling.
00:36:57Save yourself time.
00:36:59They've done it halfway.
00:37:00They've actually put a curb in here.
00:37:02They've got the niche.
00:37:03I'm loving the subtle lighting with these beautiful travertine light fittings, which are fantastic.
00:37:10And I think this marble is hot.
00:37:14The issues Shona had, which led to much debate between her and Marty, and perhaps some conflict.
00:37:21Well, she felt perhaps you could have even gone further with the aesthetics and styling.
00:37:28I myself still want to see more drama.
00:37:30I really want...
00:37:31What?
00:37:32I want people to really bring it this year.
00:37:35It's a holiday place.
00:37:37This isn't about safety.
00:37:39These are people coming for holidays that want to be wowed.
00:37:43I haven't finished.
00:37:43I'm loving the neutral palette.
00:37:45This is the one hero, but you can take it further.
00:37:49You really can.
00:37:50I disagree.
00:37:54He's a serious real estate agent, and he thinks you got the styling and the choices just right.
00:38:02Think about your buyer, I believe, is coming straight out of Melbourne CBD.
00:38:07They have an aesthetic.
00:38:08Melbournians have a tone.
00:38:09And this fits the bill.
00:38:11I could pick this up and place it in a house in Alba Park, in South Yarra.
00:38:16Any of those buyers that see value coming down here will absolutely gobble this up.
00:38:22You've just said it perfectly.
00:38:24You could see this in Alba Park.
00:38:26You could see this in Melbourne.
00:38:27I don't want to come to Phillip Island and be in Melbourne.
00:38:31But when you also invest in property, you want to see capital appreciation and not too much of a fad.
00:38:37I'm not talking fad.
00:38:38I'm talking personality.
00:38:39Take it to the next level.
00:38:41Sophistication can be personality.
00:38:45But personality can be sophisticated.
00:38:49I don't want to come back here and feel like I'm in Melbourne.
00:38:51I want to feel like I'm in Phillip Island and see something that is elevated, classy with personality.
00:38:58I think they want that same luxury tonal feel that they've got at their home.
00:39:03And they're getting the excitement.
00:39:04And they're getting the excitement from everywhere else.
00:39:07I'm coming from home to go to home.
00:39:08Coming from home to continue to make money in property is what I think.
00:39:14Oh, horns are going to lock on this one.
00:39:20It's got my bucket too.
00:39:23Darren, who played this role most of the day, agreed with both Marty and Shana.
00:39:29And he landed very firmly somewhere right in the middle.
00:39:33You want a fence sitter?
00:39:35You're a good fence sitter.
00:39:37I agree with you both.
00:39:37And I don't agree with you both.
00:39:39So I think that drama in holiday houses is really important.
00:39:43Instagrammability does help you market them in terms of getting people to come and stay.
00:39:49Like that, that's a shot.
00:39:53Absolutely.
00:39:54That's a shot.
00:39:56So it's striking that balance between Instagrammability,
00:39:59broad enough for a market, and something that's going to look good on the sales brochures.
00:40:05But Shana wants more.
00:40:07I am not about Instagrammable moments.
00:40:10I'm about how do you feel when you walk in here?
00:40:13I believe that Instagrammability is so important because it's what gives you that return.
00:40:18You're interconnecting your Airbnb ad, your Instagram page.
00:40:21All those things mean something to the people renting it.
00:40:24But the thing is, I'm not saying this is a bad room.
00:40:29I'm saying this is a fantastic room.
00:40:30I'm saying I want to see a lot of this and more.
00:40:33I don't want to see one Instagrammable moment.
00:40:36I don't want to be in Melbourne here.
00:40:38You want to be in Melbourne?
00:40:38You want to be safe?
00:40:39I don't want to be safe.
00:40:42So what do you do?
00:40:44I want more, Scotty.
00:40:47But overall for week one, this is a well-designed and well-executed bathroom.
00:40:54The quality is off the charts.
00:40:56The layout is incredible.
00:40:57The tone, everything about it is beautiful.
00:41:01And someone's got the eye here.
00:41:02I don't know if it's Courtney.
00:41:03I mean, she's a furniture designer.
00:41:05She has hit it out of the ballpark.
00:41:07And the key things are the mood lighting, the tile choices, the marble, the skylight.
00:41:12If this is the tone that they have set for this house,
00:41:16then I've got a lot of belief in these guys.
00:41:20Great work, Courtney and Grant.
00:41:21That's it.
00:41:27That was, yeah, so nerve-wracking.
00:41:30Do we have to do that again for 12 weeks?
00:41:3211 more to go.
00:41:46Okay, house three.
00:41:53That'll do.
00:41:53Park there.
00:41:54Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:41:55Why not?
00:41:55There's a pair of dickheads everywhere.
00:41:59It's been a crazy week.
00:42:01Biggest week of my life.
00:42:02I can actually say that, hand on my heart.
00:42:07I'm a plumber, so I don't mind starting off with a bathroom, right?
00:42:12I wanted a flute bath.
00:42:13Flutes.
00:42:13It's one of the most expensive ones we do have at around the $12,000 mark.
00:42:18It's a damn good bath.
00:42:22Going with our design theme, modern coastal,
00:42:25with a touch of Scandinavian in it, certainly was within our plan.
00:42:29My phone rang, and it was the wife, Chelsea.
00:42:37Chelsea's going into hospital.
00:42:38She's going to give birth today or tomorrow.
00:42:40Really?
00:42:41Well, it was waterproof on Wednesday, and now it's water-breaking Wednesday.
00:42:46I'm going to be an uncle.
00:42:47She's going to be an uncle, Scotty.
00:42:49Give me a hug, mate.
00:42:50Let's get you to the chopper.
00:42:51Please, brother.
00:42:51Yes!
00:42:53Keep going.
00:42:54I was insulating.
00:42:55I was working by myself, and H called me.
00:42:57How's she doing?
00:42:58Chelsea's doing great.
00:43:00Baby's doing fantastic.
00:43:02What's her name?
00:43:03Miss Hilda.
00:43:04Wow.
00:43:08Nothing that I could say would explain how I felt,
00:43:10but the best feeling in my life ever.
00:43:16I don't think I've ever been to this wall before in a hardware store.
00:43:19I've never been to a hardware store before.
00:43:21I don't think I've ever been to this wall before in a hardware store.
00:43:24Without your zhuzh, you could potentially lose a room.
00:43:27That's a scrub, candle, body wash.
00:43:31I believe it could be French for style.
00:43:35It's all starting to come together.
00:43:39I hope when the judges walk into the room,
00:43:40they can actually sense our style,
00:43:43rather than thinking we're just a couple of idiots from Melbourne
00:43:47that dress in Fleurot gear.
00:43:50We've got a bangin' bathroom.
00:43:52I think we've absolutely smashed it.
00:43:54Rikki and Hayden, the boys.
00:44:05Ooh.
00:44:07Marty felt the layout was great.
00:44:10Good floor plan.
00:44:11Vanity's in the right spot.
00:44:13Bath feels good.
00:44:15This is a massive shower.
00:44:17Bath feels good.
00:44:18This is a massive shower.
00:44:20Everything seems to be working.
00:44:22Not to mention,
00:44:24Hayden was rushed out of here on Wednesday
00:44:27for the birth of his child.
00:44:29His first child.
00:44:30His first child.
00:44:30So this is commendable execution to be one man down.
00:44:37Shanna, love the choice of the bathtub.
00:44:40I think the layout's incredible.
00:44:41I think their choice of tiles is perfect.
00:44:44I love this vanity.
00:44:45That bath is really cute.
00:44:47I love the fact it's got that little shelf on it.
00:44:49Is there enough impact for you?
00:44:55This is where it's impact for impact's sake on a few things.
00:45:00This, I think, is all beautiful,
00:45:02but I think there's too many lines in the panelling,
00:45:05the tiles, the bath, and the vanity.
00:45:08Slow it down a little bit
00:45:10and make sure that your colours are the same tonings
00:45:12that they're gonna work.
00:45:14So the bluey grey doesn't work with that green
00:45:18and it doesn't work with this as well.
00:45:21So for me, the colour palette is mismatched.
00:45:24They could do this a really sophisticated deep colour,
00:45:28but this colour has to suit the rest of the house.
00:45:30So this is a little bit childish.
00:45:37It's a bit kindergarten.
00:45:39Bit harsh from Shanna.
00:45:41Darren had a word of advice.
00:45:43He thinks you should do a flat lay for each room
00:45:46to make sure all the elements go together before you start.
00:45:49Do you know what that means?
00:45:51Yeah.
00:45:52Very bored.
00:45:54When you do a flat lay, you get your tile,
00:45:56you get your other tile,
00:45:57you get your timber choices and your paint swatches,
00:46:00and then you lay them all out.
00:46:01And when you look at it,
00:46:03things should jump out at you that don't work.
00:46:05They're jarring.
00:46:07So this colour and this colour with that colour,
00:46:10we've got different intensities and different tones.
00:46:13So that dark blue here,
00:46:16add to this saturation of colour.
00:46:19It's too much.
00:46:22What are your thoughts about that?
00:46:23Yeah, no, it's fair, mate.
00:46:24That's fair.
00:46:24We took a risk.
00:46:25Every stroke of the paint on that door,
00:46:27I was like, oh man, it's a big gamble.
00:46:30Marty agrees wearing his real estate hat.
00:46:34From a real estate perspective,
00:46:35you want to be able to appeal to the masses.
00:46:37And if this hardy groove and the door were to be white,
00:46:41this white will feel beachy
00:46:43and a buyer will not be able to pick it apart.
00:46:46By going the blue and the tonal blue,
00:46:49you're raising the eyebrows of the buyer.
00:46:53And why bother?
00:46:54But I mean, it doesn't even have to be blue.
00:46:56This could be canary yellow.
00:47:00Marty disagreed with a very firm no.
00:47:05It can't be canary yellow.
00:47:06Why?
00:47:07Just white.
00:47:08It's enough.
00:47:09You've got all the juice here.
00:47:11They've squeezed the lemon hard enough in the vanity,
00:47:13in the tiles, in the feature biscuit tile.
00:47:15Like, I don't know why it needs to be canary yellow.
00:47:20I really don't believe a buyer's going to come in here
00:47:22and go, fantastic house.
00:47:24I'm not going to pay a premium
00:47:25because I've got to repaint the doors.
00:47:27Okay, just throwing another one in there.
00:47:28You could turn it into a little bit more retro.
00:47:30If you go the deep egg yolk yellow, palm springs.
00:47:35I'm not picking up that they would be able
00:47:36to execute the palm springs throughout.
00:47:39That's the problem.
00:47:40Whereas if they keep it...
00:47:42Why couldn't they?
00:47:43Because to pull off palm springs throughout an entire house,
00:47:46as designers you'd know, it is very, very hard to do.
00:47:50You've got to be super, super sophisticated.
00:47:52You're doubting the people you haven't even met yet.
00:47:54I'm judging from week one.
00:47:57That if they're going for this and this matched with that,
00:48:02they may not be able to pull off palm springs
00:48:04throughout an entire house.
00:48:05I think they've got the work ethic and they can execute.
00:48:08It's just whether they've got the eye.
00:48:10But Darren and Shona think you do,
00:48:12you just need to plan better.
00:48:15I think it's a bloody good start.
00:48:16I mean, this is a cracking bathroom.
00:48:19Week one, hardest bathroom ever
00:48:21in the hardest location ever in 20 years.
00:48:25But it's not the most memorable of bathrooms.
00:48:28But it's also not...
00:48:29Oh, do you want to be levitated?
00:48:31No.
00:48:31Oh, you like to be...
00:48:33Just a little bit.
00:48:34But as in, I don't want it to offend.
00:48:36Well, I'm really happy for Rikki and Hayden.
00:48:38I think it's a great start,
00:48:39but I feel like they're going to be a sponge
00:48:41and listen to everything that we've said.
00:48:42Fingers crossed.
00:48:43Fingers crossed.
00:48:44But they know.
00:48:47Hell hath no fury like Shana Blaise.
00:48:49That's it, boys.
00:48:50What a big week for both of you.
00:48:51And welcome to the world again, little Tilly.
00:48:57But you can't go anywhere ever again.
00:49:00You've had your one leave pass.
00:49:01I'm here, mate.
00:49:02I'm here.
00:49:04I really wanted to prove to H that we could get off to the good start.
00:49:07And I really wanted to do him proud.
00:49:08And I couldn't have tried any better.
00:49:10But yeah, I'm still disappointed.
00:49:12When it comes down to colour choices on a room finish,
00:49:15and that's the only negative feedback,
00:49:17I think he absolutely nailed it.
00:49:20Okay. How's four?
00:49:34Kylie and Prad.
00:49:36Guessing this is going to go one of two ways.
00:49:40You have created Black Beauty,
00:49:42or Batman shitter.
00:49:49Phillip Island won't know what's hit them.
00:49:52I found this week very tiring.
00:49:54Yeah, this week was a challenge, 100%.
00:49:58What room did we do this week?
00:50:00This week we did the main bathroom.
00:50:04They're trying to kill us.
00:50:06Do you have any inspiration or anything that you'd like to run through with me to begin with?
00:50:10Black, black, black, black, black, black, black.
00:50:12All black?
00:50:13Yeah.
00:50:13Easy.
00:50:14Is it?
00:50:15Your 1800 vanity will hit the bath.
00:50:18It doesn't fit.
00:50:20Just delete the bath.
00:50:21That doesn't make sense.
00:50:23So the bath's out.
00:50:28We still don't have a structure up.
00:50:30You guys have got to go a thousand miles an hour.
00:50:34Yeah.
00:50:34And then wake up tomorrow morning.
00:50:36Do it all over again.
00:50:37Yeah.
00:50:41I'm at Beacon.
00:50:43I'm at Beacon.
00:50:44I actually have a plan.
00:50:45I need a mirror.
00:50:47Yes.
00:50:48Fingers crossed they have what I'm after.
00:50:50Yeah, so 800 mil is the largest we can make around.
00:50:54In stock?
00:50:55Yeah.
00:50:55Amazing.
00:50:56And we want three pendants.
00:50:58Three pendants.
00:50:58Three globes.
00:50:59Tick, tick, tick.
00:51:00So we're hammering towards waterproofing.
00:51:03Waterproofing by two-ish.
00:51:05Five, 130.
00:51:06130.
00:51:07Locke's biggest comeback this room.
00:51:09I can't believe that you spent cash off your budget on this.
00:51:14I didn't know this until now.
00:51:15But it might look beautiful and they might win.
00:51:17Who cares?
00:51:18If you go over budget, you've got to catch up on the next round.
00:51:20Or win.
00:51:23I think this room's unique just because it is so far away from what everyone else is doing.
00:51:29Hearing from the judges will really set the tone on where we're going to go from here.
00:51:36Whoa!
00:51:38This is full on.
00:51:40If they completely tear it apart, I might have to rethink what I'm doing.
00:51:47I want a drama and I got drama.
00:51:50I'm a little nervous.
00:51:51I'm a little nervous.
00:51:52I'm a little nervous.
00:51:54I'm a little nervous.
00:51:54I'm a little nervous.
00:51:56I'm a little nervous.
00:51:58You got it all right.
00:52:00You can't say you don't like it.
00:52:02You match.
00:52:03In a top that I can change at the end of the day.
00:52:06Can't change this too quick.
00:52:14It's a lot.
00:52:15It's a hell of a lot.
00:52:16They need to bank on a Collingwood supporter to buy this house.
00:52:20I'm not a Collingwood supporter and I wear black and white all the time.
00:52:24Shona wasn't having any of that.
00:52:26She loved the feeling of the room.
00:52:30I'm loving the subtlety of the deck Tom,
00:52:33which is on the walls in the shower and then also on the floor.
00:52:36And then the rest of the walls are painted.
00:52:38But then also this cute little groove here, which is quite gorgeous of just panels.
00:52:44Let me finish.
00:52:45Let me finish.
00:52:45It breaks up the black and white.
00:52:48I adore this pattern and I'm always not a fan of a black toilet.
00:52:54But this one disappears.
00:52:56So that works.
00:52:58It's definitely Instagrammable.
00:53:00I love the feeling of it.
00:53:01So you say like you actually like this?
00:53:03We haven't got through to it.
00:53:04The first impact to me goes, poor, you have grabbed me.
00:53:09It's grabbed me, but for all the wrong reasons.
00:53:13And once again, I am somewhere in between the two of you.
00:53:17What I do like in here is the dark palette.
00:53:20If we're looking at this room as a starting point for the home
00:53:25and they're intending to do like a black shack.
00:53:28Awesome.
00:53:28I think that's a really appropriate beachside holiday accommodation.
00:53:32Look, we have great decision making in here.
00:53:36The deck Tom's fantastic.
00:53:38That vanity is gorgeous.
00:53:39I even like the granite top.
00:53:41Great use of skylight.
00:53:43Phenomenal.
00:53:45Having this big section carved out of the ceiling.
00:53:47It just gives you this volume of space that's already really elevated
00:53:51because of these high ceilings.
00:53:53So that is a huge success.
00:53:56Big tick.
00:53:57Massive win.
00:54:00What de-elevates the room is that herringbone pattern.
00:54:06It is the battening here on the side.
00:54:08And it is these industrial hanging lights.
00:54:11It gives off a, you know, mid 2010s nightclub vibe.
00:54:17And we have the glaring omission of a bath.
00:54:20Yeah.
00:54:21These homes, if they're holiday accommodation,
00:54:24if they're going to be used by a lot of families,
00:54:26especially when they're staying outside, you do need a bathtub.
00:54:32Shona had some thoughtful feedback for you.
00:54:34The only jarring thing for her is the neon colour of the vase and the artwork.
00:54:41Neon doesn't bring softness to it.
00:54:44This vase and then we've got the white fern and then we've got the black pampas,
00:54:49takes it very theatrical.
00:54:52And then this neon here, it's not speaking to me.
00:54:55So take those two elements out and put softness in there.
00:54:59I think it's beautiful.
00:55:01But there is a storm rolling in, guys.
00:55:04A dark thunderstorm called Marty Fox.
00:55:08The only thing that I like about this room is the skylight,
00:55:12because when I'm looking up, I don't have to see anything else in this room.
00:55:18You've got a large vanity with only one sink.
00:55:21Easily could have been a double sink.
00:55:26You've got this herringbone tile, which is just so out of place.
00:55:29A neon canvas behind me.
00:55:31This weird vase.
00:55:35For me, this is probably one of the best things in here.
00:55:38It's the black toilet paper.
00:55:40Rude.
00:55:43It's all right.
00:55:44It's week one.
00:55:47I mean, to throw my positive spin on the room,
00:55:50I do love the deckton, which both you guys also love.
00:55:54From a real estate perspective, if I brought 10 buyers in here,
00:56:00maybe one or two will say I love it.
00:56:03You only need one buyer.
00:56:06And you only need one buyer is the right word to say, Jessie.
00:56:10This is as far removed from the beach as you could get.
00:56:17What color are penguins?
00:56:19Just putting it out there.
00:56:22I want to get out of here.
00:56:27If these homes are to be selling for more than
00:56:30double the average sale price on Phillip Island,
00:56:34then you need to be able to appeal to the masses.
00:56:37It needs to feel, I believe, relaxing, coastal, and a getaway.
00:56:42This is heavy.
00:56:43This is dark.
00:56:44If they continue this theme throughout the other rooms,
00:56:48this is going to be possibly the biggest disaster we've seen in 20 seasons.
00:56:55It's really brave to do what you really want to do.
00:56:58Like, it's really brave.
00:57:01You guys should be so proud of yourself where you were a couple days ago.
00:57:05Yeah, 100%.
00:57:06I know it's been a really tough week, and you come in here,
00:57:10and it is constructive criticism coming from the judges.
00:57:12And just remember that you got a lot of positive feedback from Darren and Shana,
00:57:17and from a design point of view,
00:57:19but it was a bit harsh for Marty from a real estate point of view.
00:57:23And there's always next week.
00:57:25Thanks, mate.
00:57:26Okay, well done for finishing.
00:57:27You did a great job.
00:57:35Okay, the last room of week one on the block, Christian and Mimi.
00:58:01This week we were faced with many challenges.
00:58:06But we somehow overcame all of them.
00:58:13I'm quite positive.
00:58:14Mimi is going to be like...
00:58:19Located on the ground floor and at a bit over 10 square meters,
00:58:22House 5's main bathroom is the biggest on the block this week.
00:58:28That's the other option.
00:58:29That's a lot bolder.
00:58:31I'm a bold girl, so that is definitely something I don't mind.
00:58:35Can I have this?
00:58:36This, this, this?
00:58:37Lock it in.
00:58:37Lock it in.
00:58:38Perfect.
00:58:38Done.
00:58:40I think that I'm evolving, and it's happening on the block.
00:58:48Everything's good for waterproofing.
00:58:50You'll be the only one waterproofing.
00:58:54We made waterproof Wednesday.
00:58:59You're slow, Tyler, still going slow.
00:59:01Hurry up, dude.
00:59:02It's like watching paint dry.
00:59:04You better bring someone else tomorrow, otherwise we are...
00:59:12So we have everyone in here today just trying to get us over the line.
00:59:17That's why we feel really positive.
00:59:19Yeah, baby.
00:59:20Oh, yeah.
00:59:21We knew it was going to be tough, but we are over the moon.
00:59:32Oh, this is massive.
00:59:46Look at the ceiling here.
00:59:48Wowzers, this is a lot more space, isn't it?
00:59:53Marty is first up.
00:59:55We know he's on the wall path today.
00:59:57So what does he think of house number five?
00:59:59Having this floor space for a beach house just makes so much sense.
01:00:08Are you happy with that?
01:00:09Very happy.
01:00:12This truly is a proper family bathroom where we won't feel like we're on top of each other.
01:00:19Darren said this room's a huge success.
01:00:24It's got beautiful materials.
01:00:26The tile on the floor is gorgeous.
01:00:28I really love that you've got that slight blue through there
01:00:31that ties in here with this tile.
01:00:34This is really successful.
01:00:38I just think the balance of tone and texture is incredible.
01:00:44I love the point of difference with the ceiling.
01:00:47I think it enhances it.
01:00:48I actually really love the watery tiles like reflecting Phillip Island.
01:00:54And the fact we've got artwork.
01:00:56Look at that.
01:00:57We've got the surf beach.
01:00:58We've got the sand.
01:00:59It's just the essence of Phillip Island.
01:01:02I'm really impressed.
01:01:04Are you satisfied with your level of impact in here, Shana Blakes?
01:01:08My feet are starting to lift.
01:01:14Darren was thinking hard at this point about the layout
01:01:17and wondered if you made the most of the luxury of space
01:01:21compared to the other houses that you had to plan with.
01:01:27Are you not sure at the moment?
01:01:29Because you're sort of going, I'm not 100%.
01:01:32I'm thinking the bigger the room gets, it gets harder to plan.
01:01:35You can make mistakes and waste loads of space in big rooms.
01:01:42This layout could have went one of six, seven different ways.
01:01:45And I just, I don't know that there isn't a better layout to this room.
01:01:53I think maybe there is.
01:01:58I'm judging purely by how much open floor space there is that seems to have no purpose.
01:02:04But it doesn't feel sparse though.
01:02:06It feels quite comfortable.
01:02:08The only thing that I'm not really buying into is the tiny little shower nook.
01:02:14For such a large shower, that is nearly a two metre long shower.
01:02:21And they probably could have even had two shower heads.
01:02:24I don't know, two shower heads, holiday house, got other family members.
01:02:29I like to shower alone personally.
01:02:33Marty thinks this room will add a huge amount of value to the buyer
01:02:37when they come through your house.
01:02:40When you walk into this house, this is the first room of true value that the buyer will see.
01:02:46This is the family bathroom.
01:02:48They've hit it and they've done it so well, so sophisticated
01:02:52that you bring 10 buyers in here, you're going to have majority give it a big tick.
01:02:57This is an incredible standard for week one.
01:03:01It is beautifully appointed, how they've laid everything out and how this would shoot.
01:03:08I mean, this is the hero shop of today, right here.
01:03:13For week one, seven days, first room.
01:03:18This doesn't feel like week one standing here.
01:03:22Wow.
01:03:23But is it good enough to win you 140 grand?
01:03:27For Marty, it's neck and neck.
01:03:31Which means only one thing.
01:03:34It's time.
01:03:35Just a minute, I'll find it here somewhere.
01:03:38For the schools.
01:03:39Here we go.
01:03:52Okay, Darren, Parma, Jessie and Paige.
01:03:57Here we have a big shower, we have an external edge facing into the radius of the door.
01:04:01And it feels a little hectic.
01:04:04Okay, Darren, Parma, Jessie and Paige.
01:04:09Here we have a big shower, we have an external edge facing into the radius of the door.
01:04:14And it feels a little hectic.
01:04:22Oh, Courtney and Grant.
01:04:27It's striking that balance between Instagrammability, broad enough for a market.
01:04:31I think this does it perfectly.
01:04:33I think they've nailed this.
01:04:48Ricky and Hayden.
01:04:50I think it's a bloody good start.
01:04:52I mean, this is a cracking bathroom.
01:04:58Yes, good on you boys.
01:05:02Kylie and Brad.
01:05:03Dekton's fantastic.
01:05:05That vanity is gorgeous.
01:05:06I even like the granite top.
01:05:08Great use of skylight.
01:05:09Phenomenal.
01:05:18And Christian and Mimi.
01:05:22They're planning well, they're designing well, they've hit the brief.
01:05:25I think this is a huge success.
01:05:32Oh, no.
01:05:40Here we go.
01:05:40Marty Fox.
01:05:43Jessie and Paige.
01:05:47There's a chippy within this team.
01:05:48They're on the block.
01:05:50You do everything that you can in your power to finish your room.
01:05:53And this is an unfinished room.
01:06:00Courtney and Grant.
01:06:02Amazing floor plan.
01:06:04Incredible materiality.
01:06:06Like these tiles are stunning.
01:06:18Ricky and Hayden.
01:06:20If this hearty groove and the door were to be white,
01:06:23a buyer will not be able to pick it apart.
01:06:25By going the blue and the tonal blue,
01:06:29you're raising the eyebrows of the buyer.
01:06:32And why bother?
01:06:40Kylie and Brad.
01:06:42This is heavy.
01:06:43This is dark.
01:06:44If they continue this theme throughout the other rooms,
01:06:47this is going to be possibly the biggest disaster we've seen in 20 seasons.
01:06:57And Christian and Mimi.
01:06:58Here we go.
01:06:59Having this floor space for a beach house just makes so much sense.
01:07:08Oh, $140,000.
01:07:12Here we go.
01:07:13See you in a sec.
01:07:14Good luck, guys.
01:07:15Good luck, guys.
01:07:17Shona Blaze, Jessie and Paige.
01:07:22There's a lot of labor in putting these sheets up of tiles.
01:07:25You don't have to fully tile every bathroom, every wall.
01:07:29Courtney and Grant.
01:07:32Feel sick.
01:07:35I'm loving the subtle lighting with these beautiful travertine light fittings.
01:07:40And I think this marble is hot.
01:07:43Ricky and Hayden.
01:07:46This, I think, is all beautiful.
01:07:48But I think there's too many lines in the paneling, the tiles, the bath and the vanity.
01:07:54Conor and Brad.
01:07:57First impact to me goes, poor, you have grabbed me.
01:08:00And Christian and Mimi.
01:08:04I just think the balance of tone and texture is incredible.
01:08:11Okay, the winner of week one on the block.
01:08:15Taking home $10,000 from Ford, $30,000 Wolf Barbecue from E&S Trading,
01:08:21and a $100,000 voucher from Cambridge Furniture is...
01:08:26Here we go.
01:08:28It's massive.
01:08:28140.
01:08:29I can't spin the board.
01:08:34It's Christian and Mimi.
01:08:42We just won week one on the block.
01:08:46And we won $140,000 in prizes.
01:08:48And I am still in shock.
01:08:51South Aussie's Zen Bathroom scored them big with 28.5 points.
01:08:57In second place was Courtney and Grant's Modernterranean Bathroom,
01:09:01with Ricky's effort scoring the boys third place.
01:09:04Kylie and Brad's Black Bathroom scored 22.
01:09:08And in last place, West Aussie's Jessie and Paige.
01:09:13Congratulations, guys.
01:09:15$140,000.
01:09:16That is a game-changing prize on the block.
01:09:19You're tearing up because all your hard work has paid off.
01:09:22Yeah, lots of sacrifices to be here.
01:09:24So, you know, it means a lot.
01:09:26Yes, that's fantastic.
01:09:28Tomorrow morning, you can all go and have a look at your neighbours' houses
01:09:31at the Domain open for inspections.
01:09:33And you can also head to Domain,
01:09:35it's because it's the only place you're going to find out what you're doing next week.
01:09:39Well done, everybody.
01:09:40It was a tough week.
01:09:41Good luck.
01:09:42Good night.
01:09:43See you later.
01:09:44We really put our heart and soul into this week,
01:09:47and we came out with an outstanding result.
01:09:50And what we're doing is what buyers want.
01:09:52So that's pretty cool.
01:09:54That's what you want, right?
01:09:54That's the point of the block.
01:09:56Let's have a look at your house.
01:09:56Oh, my God!
01:10:00You did it!
01:10:00How are you?
01:10:04It's a week of wonder.
01:10:06Let's go!
01:10:073D Bed Heads.
01:10:10Here we go, guys.
01:10:11Here we go, guys.
01:10:12Into the vault.
01:10:13Golden sinks.
01:10:14Love it.
01:10:15Want it.
01:10:16And grand plans.
01:10:18It's coming back.
01:10:19Things are happening up here.
01:10:21Do you know what you're looking for?
01:10:22Uh, not at all.
01:10:23No.
01:10:24And crafty Christian...
01:10:25Dungeons, baby!
01:10:27...tries to pull a fast one.
01:10:29Both our signatures have been forged.
01:10:31So to sign off fraudulently, you can't do that.
01:10:33I know it was wrong.
01:10:34Not cool, man.
01:10:35So, Denny, why did you do it?
01:10:36Who does that?
01:10:38You're making it worse.
01:10:39The new block, tomorrow 7.30 on 9.
