00:00It's not that different to Leeds, Keir, I've got to be honest with you, if you squint,
00:09you might have a little difficulty distinguishing between the two teams here because it's, what
00:14is that?
00:15What is that colour?
00:16Mint?
00:17Let's have a look at the Leeds United line-up, as already suggested, Tyler Roberts gets his
00:20first league start of the season, but the big news is that Eddie Nketiah has picked
00:24up what is being described as a lower abdominal injury and is not going to be taking part
00:29today.
00:30There was an anticipation that he might even start the game today, but it's Bamford who
00:33starts for Leeds United, they also have a problem with Alyoski out as well, so they
00:37had to make a number of changes, and so the Leeds United line-up has Cooper back in the
00:41starting XI as the captain as well, and good to see Pablo Hernandez amongst the potential
00:47replacements this afternoon.
00:49Queen's Park Rangers manager Mark Warburton, he made a few changes off the back of a disappointing
00:54home defeat at the hands of Brentford on Monday night, and it's interesting to see that Naki
00:58Wells, we expect a line-up up front with a returning Jordan Hoogill who served a one
01:02game suspension, so we are looking at QPR probably having the two players up top for
01:07this game this afternoon.
01:09And Leeds United get a free kick which they want to take and do take quickly, to Ayling
01:14on the near side, now Costa just on his first touch in the game, Costa skips away well and
01:18gives the ball to Ayling, and Ayling has it on the right-hand side, chance for him to
01:21cross into the box, oh, and Klik arrived and met it, and he got too much on it, and it
01:26flew over the crossbar from such an inviting position, it was a great run, the timing was
01:32excellent, the finish not so.
01:34Great ball by Luke Ayling, well started from a quick free kick, Ben White just gave it
01:38to Ayling, he just took the space, ran into it, and I could see out of the corner of my
01:42eye Klik making that third man run from the midfield.
01:44And then out to the near side of Luke Ayling, Championship table tells the story of just
01:50how tight the league looks this season, barely any points spread between top and mid-table,
01:55now Bamford on the edge of the area for Leeds, now Stuart Dallas will try and curl one, and
01:59the keeper Kelly pushes it away, there wasn't much power in that from Stuart Dallas, but
02:03he put a bit of backspin on it, and it caused the keeper an anxious moment, and he pushed
02:08it behind as a result.
02:09Yeah, it was an interesting kind of parry.
02:13Gets wrestled out the way, the ball comes back to Kiko Kossia, but Hugel continues to
02:18doggedly put pressure on the Leeds keeper, who bypasses him, and gives the ball out to
02:22Ben White instead, and then White infield to Calvin Phillips, who's under pressure from
02:25Cher, and then back to Ben White again, and then down on this near side, needs to work
02:29that away from pressure well there, nice triangles, and then Ayling through the middle, farther
02:35into a no-man's land, but Phillips steps in and knocks the ball wide for Jack Harrison,
02:41Jack Harrison swings a deep, deep cross in towards Bamford at the far post, puts it in
02:45towards a near post, and there was nobody there in a lead shirt, and QPR did their level
02:50best to do Leeds work for them there, with the man sliding on the near post was Ryan
02:55Manning, and just for a second there, there was a confused moment between the goalkeeper
03:00and the QPR player, Wells on the far touchline, gives the ball back into a midfield area,
03:05but Harrison picks it up for Leeds, and skips away and over a challenge, gives the ball
03:08to Klik, now Leeds have players bombing on here, great ball for Bamford, Bamford on the
03:12edge of the area, goes past the keeper, and then the challenge is made on Bamford on the
03:16edge of the box, by Wallace, that stops the opportunity for the shot on goal, and Kelly
03:21the keeper comes to gather it, that was another really good opening for Leeds United.
03:29Robertson, Harrison linking it well far side, great ball from Robertson to Harrison, Harrison
03:33in the penalty area, low cross, oh, right across the goal line, and then it's turned
03:38away at the far post, turned behind at the far post, and QPR so, so relieved that nobody
03:45was there for Leeds, to touch that ball into the back of what would have been an unguarded
03:51net, corner kick Leeds.
03:54Excellent play from Tyler Robertson, Harrison just to create that space down on the left
03:57hand side.
03:58Good throw in, things are looking better all of a sudden for Leeds, 10 minutes before half
04:02time, near side, Klik with a cross into the penalty area, great ball over the head of
04:06Patrick Bamford, and it's cleared away, out to Ayling, Leeds come again, near side, Costa
04:10with the ball now, Costa wriggles away from the challenger Wells, brings it out to Dallas
04:14on the right hand side, Dallas curls another inviting ball in Bamford with the head of
04:17Harrison, who's stooping at the far post, but it was just a little too far ahead of
04:22Jack Harrison, and it goes behind for a goal kick, much better from Leeds.
04:26Just ducked it a little bit haven't we now, last five minutes.
04:29And then the ball comes up and over the halfway line, well done, and Leeds win it back in
04:34their own half, through Liam Cooper, now Ben White, and now Stuart Dallas on this right
04:39hand side, there's the flexibility, there's the fluidity, he'll pull on the shirt of Costa,
04:43Costa does well though, to knock the ball wide, to Klik and Klik, to the onrushing Jack
04:48Harrison, far side of the penalty area for Leeds, Harrison taking on the defender, step
04:52over, has the ball inside now, still with the ball at his feet, to Tyler Roberts, chance
04:55to shoot, low line, Tyler Roberts, marks his first league start of the season with a cracking
05:03finish, low to the keeper's side, and Tyler Roberts goes to celebrate with the Leeds supporters,
05:09Leeds United 1, Queen's Park Rangers 0.
05:13You could sense it, it's been coming the last five minutes or so, turning the screw, keeping
05:17the pressure high, keeping the turnovers high, and Jack Harrison's were never so well there,
05:22he seemed like he might have known where to go, just laid it back to Roberts, intelligent
05:27finish is that, he's not trying to hit it too hard, he's just trying to place it, get
05:31it on target, through the crowd with the bodies, hit the target, 1-0, and that's kind of the
05:36dominant last five minutes, what we deserved.
05:39Tyler Roberts took that shot almost like a penalty kick, it was side-footed right into
05:43the side netting, and Rangel infield to Izay, Izay turns away really well from Stewart Dallas,
05:50still with the ball at his feet, moves up towards the edge of the Leeds penalty area,
05:53through the middle, tries to play the ball through Dallas there, comes back out towards
05:57Rangel on the edge of the area, and then breaks for Naki Wells in some space on the edge of
06:00the box, and he slips the ball in towards the far post, and surely the last QPR man,
06:06Hugo, was offside there, nothing given by the assistant on the far side, and the referee
06:12says nothing doing either, Leeds are happy enough, he was miles off.
06:15Yeah, he was a good couple of yards off.
06:20Up to the centre circle where Ayling picks it up for Leeds, and he carries the ball forward
06:23for Leeds, and there's a run, Roberts is on, down the channel far side, no goal, Bamford,
06:28oh, he's inches away from making a vital connection there, Patrick Bamford, great play from Leeds.
06:35Tyler Roberts made a really good run down the channel right side, and he played the
06:39ball across the six-yard box, and Bamford saw it and slid in, and didn't quite get there in time.
06:45You're right, fantastic play by Leeds though, Brin.
06:47Luke Ayling, I think he's been absolutely superb.
06:51Rangel, back to Kelly, who's under a bit of pressure from Bamford,
06:55side-touch the ball up to the halfway line, Cooper wins it back for Leeds.
06:58Cooper infield, Dallas is under pressure, flicks it off, good ball to Klik, Klik is held up,
07:03but the play continues with Leeds in possession, now Klik turns towards his near side,
07:08and he drops it short of Harrison, and then Harrison is absolutely clattered by Kane,
07:12stays down, great ball over the top for Roberts, who brings it down,
07:15left-foot volley just over the top from Tyler Roberts.
07:19Terrific play to control, and within a whisker of giving Leeds a second goal,
07:24and scoring his second goal, just so lucky from Tyler.
07:30If anything, hit the target.
07:32And then he's closed down by Ben White, and he's back into his own half,
07:36still with White tight to his back, Jordan Hoogle still there.
07:38Great defending Ben White.
07:40So it has to go back from Hoogle to Hall, and then a good challenge from Klik
07:46to get the ball back into the path of Stuart Dallas, who skips past one challenge.
07:49Now it goes out wide to the far side, and Tyler Roberts up towards the edge of the box,
07:54drills the ball in, comes almost for Harrison, breaks out to Calvin Phillips,
07:57edge of the area, now it's Stuart Dallas on the edge of the box,
08:00comes for Tyler Roberts, chips the ball off!
08:02Bamford's offside!
08:03Patrick Bamford's offside.
08:05So the Leeds No. 9 had stolen in at the back post,
08:10but he'd stolen in by straying beyond the last defender,
08:14and the header hits the back of the net, the celebrations are short-lived.
08:25Kupfer is defending for Leeds, first touch, second touch, third touch is given away.
08:30Straight it goes to Pugh, who can attack the edge of the penalty area,
08:34steps over, drives the ball goalwards, well, it's not goalwards,
08:37it's wide of goal, he sliced it, and Leeds, just for a second there,
08:41we're anxious because a bit of space opened up in front of Mark Pugh.
08:48Pugh gives it straight to Harrison, down the channel,
08:50Harrison slides in against Pugh, and it almost rolls out,
08:53will it play on the near side, now Leeds have got a defender,
08:55crosses over the head of Luke Ayling, and onto the head of Jordan Hooghiel,
09:01and Hooghiel was stretching a little, and Leeds have to be happy about that,
09:05cos he got the header wrong from a really, really good position.
09:09Just didn't seem to react quick enough, Hooghiel,
09:11cos he's stood in the middle of the goal, six yards out,
09:14and for a striker of his calibre, it's a big, big chance.
09:18Calvin Phillips with a corner kick now, in it goes,
09:21swinging over the head of Harrison, just comes back out,
09:23all the way back out, heading out to Phillips on the edge of the penalty area,
09:27gives it back in to Klik, now Harrison can run at the penalty area.
09:31Harrison with the ball, Harrison trying to get to the back of the net...
09:33It's brought down by the QPR defender,
09:35then the ref looks long and hard, and gives absolutely nothing.
09:39Well, Harrison, under the challenge of Rangel, went down, and...
09:45FULL-TIME WHISTLE
09:51And now Rangel has it on the near-side touchline,
09:54still in the QPR half, gives it away, straight to Phillips,
09:56gives it back to Harrison, a lot of space for Leeds now to work in.
10:00Harrison into the gap for Klik, now back to Harrison again,
10:03Leeds continue to advance, Harrison's into the penalty area,
10:05still with the ball at his feet, plays the ball to the penalty spot...
10:08Still going, Harrison!
10:10Jack Harrison, picked up on the misplaced pass in the penalty area,
10:15and Leeds United at last have a second goal at home in a league game.
10:20Celebrations can surely start now, eight minutes to go,
10:24Leeds United 2, Queen's Park Rangers 0.
10:28What I loved about that, Bryn, he just drove it at the heart of QPR,
10:31straight through the midfield, played a little 1-2 initially with Matthias Klik,
10:36yeah, he got a little bit fortunate when the ball ricocheted to him at the end,
10:40but sometimes you earn that little bit of luck, that bit of fortune,
10:43just by your shared determination driving at the heart of the defence.
10:47You have to say, cool, calm, composed.
10:50It was easy, still with the...
10:53Easy, easy?
10:54Still with the ball for QPR, Van Gel, I didn't mean it.
10:59Pugh tries to play the ball down the channel for Kane, the full-back,
11:04now Bamford's got space and time again,
11:06he's only up against one defender at the moment,
11:08and Klik, as ever, offers an option.
11:11And then there's a foul on Patrick Bamford,
11:13and that's almost gonna see his home,
11:15because there are ten seconds of normal time remaining,
11:17and again, brilliant bit of play from Bamford,
11:19carried the ball forward, looked up, saw what was on,
11:22there wasn't much on, so held the ball up,
11:25brought the free kick, and that's the last action of what's been
11:28an all-round impressive performance ultimately from Leeds United.
11:32The scoreline may only read 2-0, we're delighted it does,
11:37but it's been a comfortable home win, and really, it could have been by a few more.
11:43Yeah, the way I'd describe it, solid, I think defensively,
11:46and that's just not the back four, back five,
11:48what the formation was playing at times,
11:51that's collectively, I mentioned Patrick Bamford right at the end there,
11:54working so hard, running back, so the team defensively were fantastic,
11:58limited to QPR, little if nothing at all.
12:01I think at times we could have been a bit more efficient
12:04in terms of build-up play, but every time we injected that bit of quality,
12:08that bit of tempo, we looked to cut above, really,
12:10and I think 2-0, a fair enough result, and like I say, just a solid win.
