00:00Hi, my name is Sam Quine, Digital Report for the Lancashire Post, and building work has started on a new supported living scheme which will provide long-term affordable accommodation for people with learning disabilities and autistic people in Preston.
00:18Located on Eldon Street, not far from the city centre, the scheme will provide 14 apartments to support independent living, a communal lounge, a garden area and accommodation for staff to provide 24-hour care and support.
00:36Due to be completed in June of next year, the scheme is being developed by one of the UK's largest providers of supporting living accommodation, Reside with Progress, in partnership with Lancashire County Council.
00:48I'm Nicola Byrne, I'm a Head of Development for RWP. So we're here today at Eldon Street in Preston, we're here with key stakeholders and our design and project team to show everybody around our new development.
01:06It's going to be 14 units of self-contained accommodation with a staff facility designed for people with learning disabilities and or autism and two designated wheelchair accessible flats.
01:19I'm Mike Boyle, I'm a Development Manager for RWP, which is the supported living arm of Progress Housing.
01:26As you can see, brickwork internally and externally is progressing really well. You can see that the formers are in, which are forming the doors and windows.
01:38We've got one more lift before we hit first floor level and when we hit first floor level then we'll put the first floor in.
01:45And once the first floor's in, we can then keep the brickwork going up and up to the roof level.
01:49The next stage is, I believe, is going to be the floors. So at the moment you can just see the floor construction, which is a precast concrete beam and a concrete block infill.
02:00On top of that we'll put insulation and then we'll put on top of that the floor screed.
02:06It's been very well received by local residents. Everyone who's commented has only been positive, saying oh we're glad something's happening with that site.
02:14And already we're getting a lot of interest in its proposed use as supported living.
02:20We're getting emails on residents who are hearing of the service and asking how can they use it.
02:27And we're directing them to the local authority who are nominating tenants for the property.
02:32Hopefully, all being well, we should be done and dusted, practically complete, handover mid-June 2025.
02:44you
