00:00And before that, let's talk to the Bureau of Immigration Spokesperson, Dana Sandoval.
00:05Good morning and welcome to Malitang Hali.
00:07Good morning.
00:09Ma'am Dana, based on the information you have, where is the former mayor, Mayor Alice Guwo?
00:15Yes, if we look at the draft records of immigration,
00:19Mayor Alice Guwo did not have a recorded departure.
00:22If we look at the immigration records, it shows that she is still here in the country.
00:27However, upon verification with our counterparts,
00:31we found out that she had an entry in at least three different Asian countries last month.
00:39Okay, what is that?
00:40Because the news we have is that on August 18,
00:43she was in Indonesia for just one day.
00:46Is that correct?
00:48Yes, we got information from our counterparts
00:53that on July 18, she had an arrival in Malaysia.
00:56On July 21, she moved from Malaysia to Singapore.
01:01And most recently, on August 18, which is just the other day,
01:05she moved, including her group with Sheila Leal-Guwo,
01:10Wendy Leal-Guwo, and Cassandra Lee Ong, to Indonesia.
01:16Alright, but what was first?
01:18When did you find out that the former mayor, Alice Guwo, is no longer in the country?
01:26Because it is said that on July 16, it has been more than a month.
01:30Actually, the immigration authorities found out about this just last week,
01:36maybe on Thursday last week.
01:38Our investigation started when we got intelligence information
01:45that there is a flight returning to the Philippines,
01:48Alice Guwo, along with Sheila, Wesley, and Cassandra Lee Ong from Singapore.
01:55Supposedly on Thursday.
01:57Upon verification, no one boarded that aircraft returning to the Philippines.
02:05It got us asking the question, why does she have a ticket from outside to enter the country,
02:11when our record states that she is still in the country.
02:15That pushed our leadership to inquire with our counterparts abroad.
02:24If this individual has an entry to their country.
02:28That's when we found out that Mayor Alice Guwo has an entry to three different countries.
02:36But ma'am, if you found out last week,
02:39why did the senators who are investigating here not find out that Senator Arisa got the information from NBI?
02:50Yes, the information was being validated because we had very raw information.
02:56And the investigation is ongoing because we found out that there was an attempt to travel to Indonesia.
03:03So Commissioner Tan Singpo and the leadership of Immigration
03:08gathered the appropriate data first before submitting all the information
03:13to the Department of Justice as well as the Senate.
03:17Okay. What will happen?
03:19Because it is said that Mayor Alice Guwo has a backdoor.
03:24And you don't have a record?
03:27As we can see, there is a high possibility that it went through informal channels
03:33to circumvent the immigration inspection.
03:37Because our presence in immigration is in informal ports,
03:42like Paliparan and seaports that are considered formal ports.
03:47But not in informal ones like private airstrips and crossings.
03:54So we think that's what Mayor Guwo did to get out of the country and to circumvent immigration inspection.
04:03Are you also looking for someone who is involved in immigration?
04:08We did not leave, ma'am. That's a possibility.
04:11So that's part of what we are looking for.
04:13Whether it be from the immigration or from other government agencies or private entities,
04:21there will be an answer to this because it caused a lot of chaos in our agency.
04:27Thank you very much for your time that you gave us.
04:30Thank you and good morning.
04:32Thank you Bureau of Immigration Spokesperson Dana Sandoval.
