00:00Democrats have wrapped up the first night of their Democratic National Convention here
00:07at the United Center in Chicago.
00:09It's four days filled with some pomp and circumstance and a lot of speeches from elected officials.
00:15But the convention really got off to a very important start on Monday night with President
00:20Joe Biden taking the stage.
00:22With Biden having left the race and with Vice President Kamala Harris taking his spot as
00:27Democrats nominee, this was an opportunity for Biden to take this national stage behind
00:33me one last time in a big political sense and basically give a farewell speech.
00:39And America, I love you.
00:46For Joe Biden, this must have been a personally difficult moment.
00:50He spent more than five decades in elected office, serving in the Senate, elected first
00:54when he was even too young to serve at 29.
00:58I've really been too young to be in the Senate because I wasn't 30 yet.
01:04And too old to stay as president.
01:08And now having been vice president and then president for one term.
01:11So to take all of that into account and to have essentially been pushed out by some members
01:16of his party who didn't want him to be their nominee this go around, that's a lot that
01:21was clearly on his mind and would have been impossible to ignore as he takes the stage
01:25at this convention.
01:27But Biden, at least in his remarks and the way he projected himself from the stage, really
01:32seemed to be reveling in the moment.
01:36I've got a lot to do.
01:39I intend to get it done.
01:42What we saw was a strong Biden and also at times defiant, making his case against Donald
01:48Trump and arguing that protecting the soul of America the way that Biden often talks
01:54about the importance of electing a Democrat into the White House is of utmost importance
01:59when the opponent on the other side is Donald Trump.
