00:00Before and after the battle, you are my strong fortress, and you set me free.
00:07Second Samuel 22 verse 33, Louis Zamperini survived being shot down over the Pacific
00:13Ocean, being lost at sea for 47 days, and being tortured for two years as a Japanese
00:19prisoner in World War II.
00:22How could anyone survive that?
00:25He relied on the strength of his body and mind and sheer willpower.
00:29If you can take it, you can make it, he told himself.
00:34But when he got home and faced the nightmares and flashbacks of PTSD, it brought him to
00:38his knees.
00:40He found himself trapped in a prison of the mind and a cycle of alcoholic binges.
00:46When his own strength failed him, an encounter with God saved him.
00:51After listening to American preacher Billy Graham speak from the Bible, Louis chose to
00:56follow Jesus Christ.
00:59God gave him the strength to forgive his former jailers.
01:03God knew my needs and took care accordingly, he said.
01:07His story is so remarkable, it's retold in the book and movie called Unbroken.
01:13Today's verse was written by King David, a man God used mightily to protect the nation
01:17of Israel.
01:19David attributes all his abilities and success in battle to God.
01:24When a warrior puts their trust in God, they are never alone because God is always with
01:28them, helping them.
01:31God is with you too.
01:33Your battles may seem smaller than Louis Zamperini's or King David's, but in God's eyes, they are
01:38just as important.
01:40Whatever you are going through, put your trust in God.
01:44He will give you strength to get through.
