A man has faced a Sydney court charged with the sexual assault of a 13-year-old boy. Police are investigating whether the alleged assault is linked to other crimes.

00:00Police are alleging that Malik Bilal Ahmed approached a child who is a complete stranger
00:07to him here at Mount Druitt train station around 1.15 a.m. last Thursday.
00:12The 33-year-old then allegedly took the 13-year-old boy to nearby Mount Druitt town center reserve
00:19where, armed with a knife, he allegedly raped the boy.
00:23The alleged victim then approached several people asking for directions to the police
00:28station.
00:29Officers say Mr. Ahmed fled in a white van.
00:32He was arrested last night and charged with aggravated sexual intercourse with a child.
00:38Mr. Ahmed's lawyer argued for his bail on the basis that he has no priors, is the sole
00:43breadwinner for his wife and three children, and that he suffers from medical issues.
00:47Bail was denied after the police prosecutor highlighted the seriousness of the alleged
00:51offense and several other factors, including CCTV footage which showed Mr. Ahmed's face
00:57in very high quality, capturing him with the child multiple times.
01:02She added that when Mr. Ahmed was arrested, he was driving the same white van and wearing
01:06the exact clothes from the night in question.
01:09Police are now appealing for information.
01:12That's what we're trying to endeavor to identify, to see if this person has preyed on any other
01:18vulnerable young kids.
01:19So we're appealing for that information to see if that is in fact the case.
01:23We have concerns that may well be the case and hence the reason for this appeal today.
01:29The case will return to court on October 18th.
