00:07incursion in Kursk. Rescue teams deploy an underwater robot to help search for six missing
00:15passengers after a yacht sunk off the coast of Sicily. The Porte de la Chapelle neighborhood
00:23underwent a transformation as a result of the Olympics, but some fear it may not last.
00:31The European Commission has proposed imposing a 9% import tariff on Tesla's EVs made in
00:38China.
00:45Ukraine is discussing the supply of new air defense systems with its partners. Ukrainian
00:50President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this in his nightly address. It comes after he
00:55urged Ukraine's allies to lift restrictions on the use of long-range weapons. He says
01:00that as a result, troops would not have to physically enter the Kursk region.
01:05We discussed today the work with our partners on new air defense systems for Ukraine. We
01:10are preparing reinforcements. There was an order from the head of the Syrian front, defense
01:16in the Pokrovsko-Toretsko direction. It is a difficult situation, but the guys are doing
01:21everything to destroy the occupants.
01:24The Ukrainian army ordered residents of Pokrovsk to evacuate within two weeks as Russian soldiers
01:30are advancing towards the strategic node. Every day, roughly 500 to 600 people leave
01:37the city, but over 50,000 still remain in the risk area. Evacuations are also still
01:43ongoing in Russia's Kursk region. Local authorities confirm 122,000 citizens left from nine border
01:51regions since the start of the incursion. There are currently 179 temporary accommodation
01:58centers spread over 27 regions.
02:05Russian President Vladimir Putin has made a surprise visit to Chechnya, a mainly Muslim
02:11republic in the Russian Federation. The Kremlin leader is rallying military support as his
02:19forces face a stunning cross-border incursion by Ukraine in the Kursk region.
02:35Putin met Chechen special forces that are training to potentially take part in the conflict.
02:42The Chechen leader said on telegram that more than 47,000 fighters, including volunteers,
02:50have been training at a special military academy since the full invasion of Ukraine began.
02:58Fighters from Chechnya, whose bid for independence after the Soviet Union's collapse led to years
03:05of war with Russia, are already participating on both sides of the conflict in Ukraine.
03:28Ukraine's parliament approved a ban on religious groups tied to Moscow. One church in Ukraine
03:36has become a target as it historically has been tied to the Russian Orthodox Church.
03:44The Ukrainian Orthodox Church, or UOC, insists it is independent from Moscow.
03:52But the Ukrainian government claims the UOC remains tied to the Russian Church, who called
04:04the Russian invasion into Ukraine a holy war.
04:21Considering the fact that Patriarch Kirill denounced the killing of Ukrainians and the
04:29destruction of Ukrainian statehood, it is difficult to imagine how one can tolerate the activities
04:36of this organization on the territory of our country, which suffers from this war.
04:41The bill, voted in favor by 265 MPs, requires Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's signature,
04:48which is expected.
04:54The rescue team looking for six missing people after their luxury yacht sunk off the coast
04:59of Sicily have deployed a remote-controlled underwater vehicle to assist with their search.
05:06The missing passengers are believed to be trapped in the hull of the Bajan, which is
05:09a British-flagged superyacht.
05:12The ship lies at a depth of 50 meters, that's about 10 meters deeper than what recreational
05:17divers are certified for.
05:20As a result, each diver can go down for no longer than 12-minute shifts.
05:25The Italian Fire and Rescue Service said its divers managed to gain access to the inside
05:29of the wreck, but that obstacles in tight spaces add a layer of difficulty to the search.
05:36Italian civil protection officials believe the water conditions could have led to a water
05:41spout as the result of a sudden storm.
05:45Fifteen people survived and one body was found close to the wreck, who was confirmed
05:49to be Chef Riccardo Thomas.
05:52Among the missing passengers are tech tycoon Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter, as
05:57well as chairman of Morgan Stanley, Jonathan Bloomer.
06:03Police in Bosnia and Herzegovina say three staff members have died after a man opened
06:08fire at a high school in the northwest of the country.
06:11The alleged perpetrator is believed to be a janitor at the institution.
06:16Officials say he's in hospital after trying to commit suicide following the shooting and
06:20that investigations are underway.
06:22Bosnian schools are still closed for the summer holidays.
06:29For years, the Porte de la Chapelle neighborhood in northern Paris has been associated with
06:33higher crime and poverty rates than the rest of the capital.
06:36But with the Paris Olympics, the city has launched an ambitious urban renewal plan and
06:41heightened police security to transform the area.
06:45Like this 8,000-seat arena, the only one built within the city for the Games, which hosted
06:51badminton and rhythmic gymnastics.
06:54And this main avenue leading towards the city's rig road was re-landscaped with added trees
06:59and bicycle lanes.
07:00But residents and business owners like this one are still worried that the harsh reality
07:27will settle back in after the Paralympic Games come to an end in September.
07:51Until recently, the area was known for its crack hill, where up to 300 addicts gathered
07:56every day in 2020.
07:58Multiple migrant camps also bordered the road.
08:02Some NGOs accused the city of social cleansing for having evicted and relocated up to 5,200
08:08people, including migrants, drug users and sex workers, outside of the capital before
08:14the Games, an accusation the local authorities firmly deny.
08:18For the worried residents, the deputy mayor of the
08:48neighborhood insists they will not be left behind.
08:58A university campus is currently under construction for 2025 to welcome more than 4,000 students
09:05in the Porte de la Chapelle area in a continued attempt to attract more people to the neighborhood.
09:11Sofia Kacenkova reporting from Paris for Euronews.
09:17Hungary celebrated its largest firework display in Budapest, but rains meant the St. Stephen's
09:24Day celebrations were off to a slow start.
09:28Incorrectly forecasted rains led to delays.
09:36Hundreds of thousands of attendees dotted the Danube River to watch the event.
09:41The colorful explosion of firecrackers, lasers and drones turned into a story by narration.
09:47Although many considered the spectacle unforgettable, others thought the money could have been better
09:52spent elsewhere.
09:53Event organizers say a record number of pyrotechnic products, as well as a bigger viewing area,
10:18made the Hungarian holiday special.
10:39The European Commission has decided to only impose a 9% tariff on Chinese-made Tesla electric
10:46vehicles imported into the EU.
10:49This is significantly less than the original 20.8% tariff Brussels proposed in July, which
10:56was aimed at leveling out the domestic electric vehicle industry that favored Chinese products
11:01due to generous Beijing subsidies.
11:04Tesla's specific tariffs were handed down once the U.S.-based company, headed up by
11:09Elon Musk, requested an individual assessment.
11:13According to the European Commission's decision, it believes that Beijing's quote
11:18unfair subsidies afforded to Chinese companies do not totally extend to Tesla's EVs.
11:25The EU also revised duties on other Chinese car makers, such as Geely and BYD.
11:31But many heavy tariffs remain for China's EV manufacturers, with the Chinese Chamber
11:36of Commerce to the EU blasting the decision for being quote protectionist.
11:41If approved by member states, the tariffs would last for five years.
