Will Kyogo leave Celtic for Manchester City? Man City Eyes Celtic's Kyogo Furuhashi as Potential Replacement for Julian Alvarez

With Julian Alvarez's £82m move to Atletico Madrid, Manchester City is on the lookout for a potential replacement. Among the names on their radar is Celtic's star forward, Kyogo Furuhashi. The Japanese international, who has been a key figure at Celtic since 2021, could be the next big signing for Pep Guardiola's side. But will Man City make a transfer bid for Kyogo?

00:00:00Welcome to the football show live on PLZ Soccer's YouTube channel. We've got Scott Allen and
00:00:11Tam McManus here with me in the studio. Delighted that you could join us and don't forget, hit
00:00:15that subscribe button and join the football family on PLZ Soccer's YouTube channel. And
00:00:21if you want to get all the breaking news, you can do by downloading the app as well.
00:00:25And the good news, if you download the app, I just thought I'd enlighten everybody of
00:00:29the fact that if you download the app and you go all the way to the bottom, you can
00:00:33hit contact and in there, you can record a message about your team, an opinion, anything
00:00:39at all, it'll drop into us on a video and we might feature you on the programme, which
00:00:44would be great because it gives you a chance really to leather the likes of yourself, Tam.
00:00:48I think that's a good idea. Yeah, you can take a selfie, drop in a message, type a message
00:00:55in or indeed video yourself. And if you, if you are on the show, we'd love to hear
00:01:00your opinion. It's your opportunity to tell us what you think about your team or certain
00:01:05issues in Scottish football. There's lots to talk about in the show and we're going
00:01:09to talk about nine days to go in the transfer window. Matt O'Reilly could be on his way
00:01:14out next couple of days, possibly. And the big question for Celtic fans is who is in.
00:01:20Killian Harps are in the playoff for European football. There's a sad farewell from Sven
00:01:25Jurren Eriksson and we'll talk to Tam Wayne Rooney in a headlock. It's a great story.
00:01:30I can't wait to hear it. And you can get the inside track on that story from Tam a little
00:01:37later on. So there's lots of transfer talk that we will be discussing. We'll hear from
00:01:42some fans of Scottish Premiership clubs on the type of player that they would like in
00:01:48before that window closes as well. So I'm hearing Matt O'Reilly next couple of days,
00:01:55confirmation of his departure. I think because there's only one team at the table, because
00:02:00Atalanta are no longer there. My sources tell me Brighton are playing hardball, looking to get
00:02:06them for about 20 million plus add-ons. Deal done. Celtic looking to obviously bring in the likes of
00:02:13Arne Engels, the 20-year-old from Augsburg, and Luke McCown from Dundee. Is that Luke McCown doing
00:02:21the rounds now, yeah? Yeah. Listen, I think the quality that Matt O'Reilly has showed, especially
00:02:28with all the transfer talk and how he's performed for Celtic so far, it's going to be a huge loss
00:02:33obviously to the start of the XI because I think he is a key component in terms of how Celtic play
00:02:39and you've seen that as the weeks have went by. So yes, there'll be players to replace him but
00:02:44it's going to be a tough job. It even took Matt O'Reilly a while to settle into his role at Celtic
00:02:49so I'd imagine they've really sounded these players out and feel that these could be the
00:02:55guys to replace him. Yeah, whatever the eventual figure that's put out there, it doesn't really
00:03:00bother anybody. They can suggest it's 25, they can eventually pay 20 or there's add-ons into the
00:03:06deal. Whatever it is, for a £1.2m outweigh for Celtic, it's good business. Yeah, it's fantastic
00:03:12business and Celtic have been brilliant in that over the last five, ten years. Buying low and
00:03:16selling high and the players are at the peak of their powers. He's been a tremendous signing from
00:03:21MK Dawns, he's really blossomed as a player. As Scott said, it took a little bit of time to settle
00:03:26in but a real, real top player now and it just shows you the calibre of clubs that have been
00:03:31in for him, the money they're talking and I think he's going to go now. I think that Brighton and
00:03:35Celtic will come to some sort of agreement and Celtic had better have players in the back burner
00:03:40to come in because the Celtic fans are not going to be happy if they're not. Oh no, they're waiting.
00:03:48Three or four players to come in. Three or four? I think so, I think they've got to bring two more
00:03:54field players in now Peter and I still think they need a striker and a left back. Bernardo comes in
00:03:59probably. I still think he wants, for me, a striker, two midfielders, if you listen to what
00:04:09the manager says, if O'Reilly goes, centre back, left back. And by the way, off the back of it,
00:04:17if you were a Celtic fan getting up this morning, you're looking and you're going,
00:04:20Kyogo? Man City? What? Do you know? That's come out of left field that one, I mean I don't know.
00:04:27Well that's Fabrizio Romano. It is, but he's actually a fit for that team in terms of his
00:04:31style of play I think. Yeah, but listen. I've had a massive blow for Celtic this week. Imagine
00:04:36losing Kyogo and O'Reilly. Can you imagine, Hattati leaves. If Man City, if that's genuine
00:04:44interest, I'd be on my phone to the agent going, get me to Man City. No disrespect to Celtic,
00:04:49want an opportunity to go and play under Pep and play in Man City. So,
00:04:54he's exactly what Pep looks for in one of his strikers as well, isn't he?
00:04:59It's one of those interesting ones because I think more often than not,
00:05:05I think a lot of people are looking and saying, okay, a lot of Celtic fans, like every club,
00:05:12buys into the bring players in and sell them on for a profit. I don't think they'll get any
00:05:18problem with that. I think the real interesting part over the next nine days is quite simply,
00:05:24who's going to be coming in. That's where I think a lot of people, if you listen to
00:05:31the word, speaking to Celtic fans, they're certainly looking and thinking,
00:05:36they've almost had their fill of this policy. There are a lot of angry Celtic fans the way
00:05:42it's going. They're not angry with the ones for the future. They're just angry that there's too
00:05:47many of them. They want to see a bit of experience, a wee bit of quality and they're not buying into
00:05:52the excuses. So, this is why this next nine days is going to be really interesting.
00:05:55Yeah, it will, but I think when you look across the board in terms of when they have maybe spent
00:06:00a bit more than they've wanted to, it's not worked out. So, it wouldn't surprise me Celtic
00:06:04go down looking for the next Matt Reilly again and then that is their transfer policy. There's
00:06:09no getting away for that and I can't imagine Michael Nicholson or Peter Lawill being swayed
00:06:15by that because at the end of the day they're looking at their books. They're looking at
00:06:18league titles and cups won. Yes, the Champions League is going to be, that's a huge draw for
00:06:24the fans and that's where the fans want the improvement, but I just can't see them going
00:06:27away from the structure and the policy that they've kind of got in place because at the end
00:06:32of the day it does work for them. Okay, I've got one name in my head that's been a big money sign
00:06:35and it's been a flop. Have you got one? You just made that broad generalisation and I'm saying to
00:06:43me, okay, in terms of age. If they've paid out money in excess of what they normally pay out,
00:06:49who's been a flop? Seven million for Julian.
00:06:57A yeti. A yeti, five million.
00:07:00And the guy that christened the yellow wall when he came in.
00:07:05The yellow wall? He was more like Edward Scissorhands.
00:07:09Barkas. Oh Barkas, yeah, Barkas, he was poor. I would go as far as to say,
00:07:16you know, and this is the defence of the board who are looking and saying, look there are some
00:07:20players that we've spent a bit of money on and haven't worked out. I don't think O worked out.
00:07:26I don't think O was good value for money, you know, so you're looking and you're saying to
00:07:31yourself, there is a balance to strike between what market are they in, what market can they
00:07:38afford and is that market a gamble where you're sweating saying, you know, is he good? The boy
00:07:45that they're looking at in Arna Ingalls is 20 years of age. Obviously, you know, some people
00:07:51have been giving him rave reviews, but at 20 years of age, he fits the blueprint for Celtic
00:07:56because he's a sellable asset. Yeah, I think they would maybe sway in the older
00:08:02kind of age bracket, try to get some frees in to maybe compliment the younger players, I think.
00:08:06They would rather do that than go for maybe a 27-year-old, the seven, eight million,
00:08:11maybe nine million mark that I think Celtic fans want for a player that they think,
00:08:15but see these guys in their prime, they want to be playing in England, in Spain and France.
00:08:20Yeah, all of them, but are they all on a mass exodus? I mean, there's got to be some out there
00:08:25who are that wee bit of quality. Is that a gamble though, if they're coming, they play in Scotland?
00:08:29Yeah, what if they're experienced and they're coming to the end of their contract and they're
00:08:32thinking, I'll have a wee swan song, I'll have a wee Joe Hart. Do you know what I mean?
00:08:37Yeah. It's not just goalkeepers.
00:08:39No, of course. And by the way,
00:08:41this definitive that they're just not out there is just a load of nonsense. By the way,
00:08:45big thank you to William Smith who says, what about Raphael Shite? We're really going back,
00:08:51we're really going back now for that name. Although he did live up to it.
00:08:57Is there any players around about that age that you think Celtic could go out and pay
00:09:01the money for and would come off the top of your head?
00:09:03That's an even better question. That's a good question. Who do you get that's an experienced
00:09:08person that's coming to the end of their career that's, I hate to say it because
00:09:14Joe Venglis got Libby Moumerachic and everybody sways towards him. But there aren't that many
00:09:21geniuses like that. That's what I call Celtic winning the lottery, getting him.
00:09:27One of the ones I was thinking about was Jamie Vardy. He just signed a new contract with
00:09:31Leicester and played the other night. He was the one I was thinking about. But Rangers got
00:09:36Jermain Defoe, probably through the Steven Gerrard factor.
00:09:39I like Jermain Defoe.
00:09:41I thought Jermain Defoe was great for Rangers.
00:09:42Somebody in that hulk, maybe 33, 34, that scored a lot of goals.
00:09:46That's going to be a low transfer fee I think.
00:09:49What we seem to be in, I think the fans want the board to actually spend up to £10 million
00:09:57for a striker around about 26, 27. I just think the players who maybe are regular goalscorers
00:10:07in these leagues around Europe, I just find it hard for them to be attracted to Scotland.
00:10:12That is another aspect of it that I think is a very good point. It's quite simply,
00:10:17when you've got options, if you're at the end of your career or are you in such an outrageous
00:10:23wage bracket that you're never going to come to Scotland, they want to go elsewhere.
00:10:29Earlier in the season I thought to myself, I'm not suggesting for a minute that Celtic
00:10:34are going to afford it, he's probably on an absolute fortune, but it's like a Marco Rous.
00:10:41Somebody who's won everything, or an experienced player who's been over the course of...
00:10:45Did he win the ML yesterday?
00:10:46Yeah, yeah, but again, it's that type of player who's at the end of his career,
00:10:53who's a 32, it's not Marco Rous, he might be on £100,000.
00:10:56They ain't going to, Celtic are not going to break their wage structure. I just can't see them.
00:11:04Well listen, it's a great question because it's something that will become more and more
00:11:09prominent as you get to the end of the window. Is there an experienced player out there? Is
00:11:15there someone you can think of that suddenly you think would be good business for any club?
00:11:21Because every now and then there's a Pasquale Bruno that joins a Hearts, there's a Frank Sose,
00:11:28you well know. Was there an experienced player that you can think of that you played with?
00:11:31Carlton Cole.
00:11:33Well, did Carlton Cole not win a league medal, a league cup medal or something like that?
00:11:38Yeah, he was there when we won the league. Brilliant for the change of him.
00:11:42Was he?
00:11:42A great, lovely guy.
00:11:44Yeah, it's a brilliant way of you saying, but not really that great,
00:11:47passed his best on the park. I'll give you another one.
00:11:50Yeah, I did something.
00:11:51Dion Dublin.
00:11:52Dion Dublin.
00:11:54Do you remember him?
00:11:56What age did he come at?
00:11:57Oh, he was older. He played in Celtic in a cup final.
00:12:02You know, you look for...
00:12:03He was a bargain.
00:12:05Eh?
00:12:06Bargain.
00:12:06Oh, yeah, absolutely. Every now and then you'll throw them in and you just give them the 25 yard
00:12:11stare. But, look my count. Excuse me, coughing and dying.
00:12:17One million the value on that stuff.
00:12:19Yeah.
00:12:21I just think, where does he fit into the Celtic midfield, I think?
00:12:26Does he fit in as a quota of a Scottish player in the European squad?
00:12:30Yeah, I think he would do. Just whether he's willing to go there and maybe accept not getting
00:12:37a lot of minutes because where he's came from, from I think it was Ayr then to Dundee, he has
00:12:42kicked on massively. I think there would maybe be options down south of him where he goes in and
00:12:47plays a lot more regular football.
00:12:49Yeah, and somebody has mentioned here Defoe, which I thought was good. Ramsey, failure.
00:12:56I didn't think he worked out at all. He did score a goal. Barton, yeah.
00:13:02I think he's the biggest flop that's ever come up with Scotland in terms of his pedigree and
00:13:06how well he done and the expectation levels for Rangers fans. He came up and was rubbish.
00:13:11Yeah, don't hold back. I have to agree with you. I mean, he's up there.
00:13:17And by the way, we have in our office, you know, a great laugh because obviously Alison
00:13:24McConnell mentioned that it's a guy thing when you come up with your lists. I'm not sure it's
00:13:28a guy thing. I'll find out if everybody agrees. Is it a guy thing that you just come up with top
00:13:33fives and top tens?
00:13:34You love a top ten.
00:13:36I absolutely love a top ten.
00:13:37You absolutely love it, man.
00:13:37I mean, I do, don't I?
00:13:39Oh, he's done it about 25 times in the last two years.
00:13:42And do you want me to tell you the God's honest truth?
00:13:44On the after dinner circuit when we're out and we go and speak at dinners in the places,
00:13:52working men's clubs, you name it, right?
00:13:54If I've heard the speaker before, Ruffy says, there's an A4 sheet of paper and Ruffy says,
00:14:01I can always tell when you've heard the speaker before because I start writing down my all time
00:14:06top lines. And then I start putting them in position. I've got my world of living off to a T.
00:14:14I just start writing it down. Not with you yet, Tam. You've got a couple of other stories that
00:14:19you've added in. But we do, we like our top, I mean, who's the top five poorest players ever to
00:14:25come to Scotland is a great list, isn't it? You know, you could come up with more than a few
00:14:30that really just haven't performed, haven't been up to it. I'm sure, you know, Rangers, Celtic,
00:14:38Hearts and Hibs, they could all come up with it. Somebody says Ian Wright. Actually,
00:14:44it's funny, actually, I was doing, I was raising money for a charity that I do regularly,
00:14:53Emmy Smiley's Foundation. And Ian Wright was there. I couldn't resist. Oh, absolutely leathered him.
00:15:03Eight goals for Celtic. Well done, big man. You're a legend. But not here. Yeah. And lots of people
00:15:10say Roy Keane. There's certainly an argument for Roy Keane over all six months. Roy Keane actually
00:15:16just said it just didn't work out for him. I think he said on one of the podcasts about
00:15:23travelling up to Barriefield from Celtic Park. Yeah, there's a whole wad of players that we can
00:15:33all think of. If Celtic need four, possibly five, arguing, what do Rangers need? And it's interesting,
00:15:43you know, don't say nine or you're going to get hammered. But they do need to,
00:15:46they need to duck and dive in the window.
00:15:52I still think they need another midfielder. I think that's the important striker. As we know,
00:15:57I think five or six. I just look at the depth of the squad as well.
00:16:06But that's not going to happen. It's not going to happen. Yeah. Do you think they might, I mean,
00:16:11for me, the amazing thing about it, I mean, it's almost like the McCarthy situation at Celtic,
00:16:17where you, you know, I was looking at players that you try and get out, you can't. Is he still at Celtic?
00:16:22No, I think, I think, I think it's up or it's, you know, he's away. But it's like Cantwell,
00:16:28Cantwell's the same situation. It's one of those situations where you say, what is happening with
00:16:33that guy? Where is he going? Are you going to pay him? Is he coming back into the fold?
00:16:38What's happening with him? They're getting paid an amount of money where if something doesn't
00:16:44tickle their fancy elsewhere, they don't need to leave. And that's, that's what we've spoke
00:16:49about before about the problems of last summer. Yeah. You're now getting the, that's now bearing
00:16:55fruit now for, for Filt to come on and the squad and it has a problem. These guys, when there was
00:17:00big games up, they're not even involved in the squad. Yeah. They're obviously on. What's Alex
00:17:05Lowry doing? What's Yanis Hadji doing? Eric Lowry's playing for the B team against Clyde.
00:17:10I mean, surely Alex Lowry. Alex Lowry's 21 now. Yeah. 21. Yeah, I don't think he's part of the
00:17:16plans Peter. No, I don't think he's part of the plans, but, but at that point you take the money
00:17:21and then you say to yourself, why don't, why don't you go and regularly play? Well,
00:17:26Scots, I don't know if Scots, I've been in a situation before where you're at a club and the
00:17:29manager doesn't fancy you and you've got a contract and you're either going to play the
00:17:34reserves and bide your time until you get either an offer to go or you get a payoff or you're just
00:17:40going to, you're just going to sit Peter. And, and I think that you've got Hadji, you've got
00:17:45Cantwell, the two major ones for me. They're just going to sit and take their money, Peter,
00:17:49until Rangers come to them and say, listen, there's X amount to leave.
00:17:52Then they're just going to stay put unless their agent comes up and goes, listen, there's somebody
00:17:56in Spain or somebody in France. And I bet it's a loan deal. Aye. And then they're going to move,
00:18:00but they're just going to sit and, they're just going to sit and take their money. It's difficult
00:18:02getting rid of them Peter. No, I accept that and it happens at every level because if you look at
00:18:06the deal at the moment that's allowed Ilkay Gundogan to head back to Man City on a free
00:18:12transfer just so that Barcelona can sign, I think, Olmo. Danny Olmo, yeah. 55 million.
00:18:20So they want him off the books. They signed him from Man City. He's on a free transfer.
00:18:25He's been given a free transfer. Can you imagine him signing on fee? He must think I'm the luckiest
00:18:30guy in the world. He is the luckiest guy. He's getting to go back to Man City after having a
00:18:35wee spell at Barcelona. No, I think in all seriousness with the Rangers transfer, I
00:18:41genuinely don't think they can sign three or four players. Until they get three or four out.
00:18:46And I can't see them. I think if they go, it'll be a loan deal. Rangers aren't going to come
00:18:50to Cantwell and Hadges and off they appear. There's too much money up front. Would you sell
00:18:54Dessers? I can't afford to sell Dessers. Can't, I'm agreeing. I can't afford to sell Dessers.
00:18:59Who's going to sell Tavernier? I can't afford to sell Tavernier either. There's no structure
00:19:04there in place for these guys to leave because of the problems that have come from the start
00:19:11of last season. I can't afford to sell Dessers. I don't think he's a great footballer, Peter,
00:19:19but he's a goal scorer and he's scored a great amount of goals for Rangers. If he goes, who
00:19:24scores goals for Rangers? You bailed him out the other night when he came on. And he scored the
00:19:27goal in Poland against Kiev. I think he's a key player for Rangers just now, Dessers. I know a
00:19:34lot of fans are split on him and they don't think he's great, but I think he'll still score a
00:19:38certain amount of goals for Rangers this season, I guarantee you that. So you'd have Dessers and
00:19:42then try and supplement him with another striker? I just think there's no quick fix for this. It's
00:19:49going to be a bit of pain, I feel, for Rangers fans over the next year or so until they manage
00:19:56to slowly but surely start to fix the books in terms of the playing squad and getting players
00:20:01in maybe a bit cheaper. Some projects, but we have a bit better knowledge about them. Peter,
00:20:07they've got one big sellable asset, the goalkeeper. I speak to a lot of my mates who are Rangers fans,
00:20:15brilliant last season, but the tail end of last season, culminating in the goal in the
00:20:20cup final where he dropped it, and then the start of this season. I don't think he's been great,
00:20:24Peter. I'm not having it. I think Rangers could go and sell, see Rangers have got 7 or 8 million
00:20:31for him. That pays for a lot of players and gets players in the door and they go and sign a free
00:20:35England again, a Butlin type. Well on the basis that they've got Liam Kelly there,
00:20:40you know who I think is a good goalkeeper, but is he better than Butlin? No. Is he good enough
00:20:45domestically? Yes. But it's whether, sometimes the right time, there's timing as you know
00:20:54in fans and how you sell somebody out the door. Do you follow me? Yeah, I think with the interview
00:21:02Philippe Camont gave last week and he spoke about obviously the comparison with the 1999
00:21:09Manchester United squad and obviously the young players coming through, but Rangers don't
00:21:13have young players. They don't have them coming through. Yeah, it's a big one. Alex Lloyd,
00:21:19he's 21 and he's got serious ability I've seen him play. Really good footballer,
00:21:24never had a real run of games. You hear about one thing or another in terms of
00:21:28attitude, which is fair enough, but there's no question the boy's got ability. Cole McKinnon,
00:21:34a few loan deals, been on the bench here and there. Is Danilo going to step up?
00:21:41You would expect him to. He was a healthy fee as well. I can't see, forget even all about
00:21:50the transfer, see the product on the pitch in terms of an organised Rangers team and a way of
00:21:55playing it. I've not been able to see it as of yet. Yeah, okay. Give us your view on that,
00:22:01players you'd like in, players you'd like out. We actually just asked a few fans at the weekend's
00:22:07games what their thoughts were. I think I'm going to get hounded for saying this, but I'd quite like
00:22:12to see a wee Lauren Shanklin sign in for the Rangers and a wee bit more stability and a bit
00:22:17more creativity for the midfield as well. A striker, definitely. Somebody that's a bit potent
00:22:22inside the Great Kenyard box. I don't think Walt's good enough. There you go. Aye, somebody
00:22:27a number nine that's, you know, that kind of instinct in the box to try and get a few goals.
00:22:33In defence, I think they need a left back. No offence against McKenzie, I think he's a terrific
00:22:42player. We need strength in defence just to make sure we keep everything tied back. We seem to
00:22:49quite a few forward players. I think we need somebody else in the midfield, somebody like a
00:22:55Ryan Jack or somebody that just adds a wee bit of steel to support the wee guys that we've got in there.
00:23:03Maybe one or two, maybe a number 10, someone that can get in behind the strikers maybe.
00:23:11I'd like to see them get a few of the players that don't want to be here out the door and
00:23:15but bring some in that want to fight for the badge and do a job in the park.
00:23:21Interesting to hear from the fans there, some motherwell Aberdeen Rangers, Kilmarnock fans.
00:23:27Obviously from my point of view, I don't like to shock anybody on the programme from time to time,
00:23:32but sometimes you have to make statements because you've got to protect the image of the company.
00:23:38This will be the last time that Scott and Tam will be on the show because they say that you can't
00:23:43have a number 10 anymore. Okay you two dimwits, listen, we need number 10s.
00:23:52It's not as bad from him, but from you it's sacrilege. Honestly, have a word with yourself.
00:23:57He's a six now, he's a six deep.
00:24:01Two and two for Kelty.
00:24:03Pursuing by the strikers.
00:24:05You're a disgrace, you really are.
00:24:09What's a number 10 to you?
00:24:10I like the manager saying, you're a number 10.
00:24:13Free roll, get us roaming about.
00:24:14That's what I mean, that's not a position anymore.
00:24:16Yeah, or is it gone?
00:24:19The mess of the tyres, that's gone.
00:24:22Guys who play obviously on the half turn and that balance, I understand what you're saying
00:24:26in terms of that type of profile, but the position where everybody else does their work
00:24:30and you just hang about waiting for the counter-attack and play it, you don't get in teams now.
00:24:35Yeah?
00:24:35You don't get in teams.
00:24:36What are you on about, you're playing for Kelty?
00:24:38I'm not playing like that.
00:24:40I'm part of the coaching staff.
00:24:43You are, we are going to see you by the way.
00:24:46And by the way, you'll see us too at Kelty next week, we're going,
00:24:51hey, the number 10, when are you going to run?
00:24:54I've got all the GPS stuff on the phone.
00:24:56You've got to have a number 10 by the way.
00:25:00No, listen.
00:25:01Jeez, honestly.
00:25:03What team plays with 10 now, really?
00:25:05Bar Miami?
00:25:06Who plays with 10?
00:25:08That iconic type of player, I know exactly what you're saying.
00:25:12Yeah, I mean, I think, you know what?
00:25:16Would you describe O'Reilly as a number 10?
00:25:18No, no, no, he's not a number 10.
00:25:21No, he's not a number 10.
00:25:21Celtic don't play with a number 10.
00:25:23Yeah, he's not a number 10 in my book.
00:25:24I must admit, what I'm going to do is I'm going to come up with a list.
00:25:29I'm going to get…
00:25:31Top 10 number 10s?
00:25:32Top 10 number 10s still playing and I'm going to ask managers if there's any number 10s still
00:25:37playing in the game.
00:25:39There's got to be.
00:25:39For who you cost it, it's the Raquelmys or the A-type.
00:25:42Or the A-type.
00:25:43How good?
00:25:44Amazing.
00:25:45You know what I mean?
00:25:45Incredible.
00:25:46Their camp.
00:25:46Eh?
00:25:47Their camp behind on reading.
00:25:48I mean, they're just a joy.
00:25:51If we are in a generation of kids now who come up and don't get the chance to play a number 10 role,
00:25:59the game's a bogey.
00:26:00It's just terrible.
00:26:01Well, if you're in the right team playing number 10, it can be amazing.
00:26:05Just going side to side.
00:26:06If Jordan McGinn and Dylan McGeach's behind you, you can play that role.
00:26:09Yeah, absolutely.
00:26:10Well, this is why I'm amazed at them.
00:26:12Honestly.
00:26:13I'm describing modern football now as that type of player that you like.
00:26:18Yeah.
00:26:19There's not many of them anymore.
00:26:20Paul says, Peter, why would Celtic knock back 21 million and add-ons to take less from Brighton?
00:26:30Listen, Paul, all I'm saying to you is that the windows move on.
00:26:37You hang out for a certain amount of money.
00:26:39You play hardball.
00:26:41A club then decides, well, we're not going any further.
00:26:43We walk away from the table.
00:26:45And suddenly you find that you're at the table.
00:26:47I mean, it's no skin off my nose whether Celtic get 25 million or 20 million.
00:26:52When you hear a story and you get little snippets of people telling you this is what they're doing,
00:26:57I'm just relaying to you, Paul, what people are doing in the negotiations.
00:27:01I think Celtic are in for 25.
00:27:03I think that's the number.
00:27:04See, if they get 25, brilliant.
00:27:06See if Celtic got 20 million plus add-ons.
00:27:11I still think brilliant.
00:27:12I still think brilliant.
00:27:13I think you would rather have a 10 or 20% sale on than an extra couple of million.
00:27:17Yeah, well, listen to him.
00:27:19I think Celtic already have that.
00:27:22I genuinely don't care.
00:27:23Liverpool or Man Utd as well.
00:27:25Yeah.
00:27:25I genuinely don't care what the deal is.
00:27:27Hypes to a broth deal you get a sale on, don't you?
00:27:29I'm giving the new boss a bad name.
00:27:33By the way, there were a few people who slaughtered you on our feed there,
00:27:36but I thought, he's only Justin.
00:27:37I'm not going to give him any, you know, but it's...
00:27:40Moving back in here now.
00:27:41I've had every bit of abuse you can probably get walking about anyway over the years.
00:27:45Not as much as the tweet specialist here.
00:27:48He's getting them every day.
00:27:49Although I thought your tweet to Lenny yesterday was particularly harsh.
00:27:54You really are.
00:27:55You've got no compassion whatsoever.
00:27:56I've texted him before that and said, sorry to hear about your job.
00:27:59Is it okay if I fight this?
00:28:03Yeah, absolutely.
00:28:05You got on well with Lenny, didn't you?
00:28:06Yeah, I did.
00:28:08But listen, of the other side, you know, we talked about Celtic,
00:28:13particularly when you were talking about Rangers there.
00:28:16You know, you look at the other teams,
00:28:17I mean, Hibs will be looking for players that they want to get off the books.
00:28:21Hearts as well might look...
00:28:23Hearts have got a big squad.
00:28:24You know, they might look and say to themselves,
00:28:26how do you move these players on?
00:28:28How do you get them out the door?
00:28:31You know, and who needs to come in?
00:28:33It's interesting listening to the Aberdeen fan there,
00:28:35looking at the type of players that they want.
00:28:37I can understand him saying defensive players,
00:28:39because if anything, Aberdeen shot themselves in the foot last season.
00:28:43Their defence was murder.
00:28:45Yeah, there's a lot of positives, I think, from an Aberdeen point of view.
00:28:49Don't get me wrong.
00:28:50I think he would have noticed that when he got in.
00:28:52He knew where the work was needed, I think, in terms of Hibs.
00:28:56Once again, it's kind of similar to Rangers.
00:28:58They need to get players out, but I think the worry there would be
00:29:02they've spent money in terms of getting players in to play defensively.
00:29:06The goalie, right now, it's not working,
00:29:08albeit they've had a really hard fixture list since the season started.
00:29:13So it'll be interesting to see what Hibs do during the coming days.
00:29:17I thought Luke McEwan to house might have been an ideal one for both parties.
00:29:22But some worries in there as well for me.
00:29:24Yeah, as far as, thanks to Kenny, who is in Los Angeles.
00:29:28He's a big Aberdeen fan.
00:29:29He says Drew Jarvie was a number 10.
00:29:32I think after Drew Jarvie, there must have been some right good number 10s
00:29:35that played for Aberdeen.
00:29:37I mean, I know Eric Black was number 10,
00:29:38but he was more one of those, you know, strikers.
00:29:41He was just fabulous.
00:29:42He could hang in the air.
00:29:45But thank you, Kenny, for that mention there.
00:29:48But thank you, Kenny, for that mention there of Drew Jarvie.
00:29:55As far as some of the other clubs are concerned,
00:29:57I'm looking at the whole lot right now,
00:29:59and I'm going to give a mention to one player that I think is leaving now
00:30:04as you get to that point where the manager just doesn't fancy you.
00:30:08You can't get regular football and you go elsewhere.
00:30:11St Johnston are saying goodbye to Stevie May,
00:30:14who's going to join Livingston.
00:30:15Now Stevie's 31.
00:30:17I mean, I think of Stevie as if he's been going on forever, I think.
00:30:20I remember interviewing him for this programme easily 10, 11 years ago,
00:30:26and he was living in a flat with one of the St Johnston players
00:30:31all those years ago.
00:30:32He's such a great lad.
00:30:33But I looked at the team that he's leaving,
00:30:36and he's the last of the cup winning side from the first time around
00:30:41against Dundee United.
00:30:42If you listen to that team, Manus, Dave Mackay, Fraser Wright,
00:30:45Stephen Anderson, Brian Easton, Chris Miller, David Wotherspoon,
00:30:50James Dunn, Michael O'Halloran, Stephen McLean and Stevie May
00:30:55was the side.
00:30:56He's the last of that cup side.
00:30:58Yeah, and listen, he's a St Johnston legend, I think.
00:30:59He's won three trophies with them,
00:31:01you know, two Scottish Cups and a League Cup for St Johnston.
00:31:04You know, an absolute club legend.
00:31:06And he's always been a streaky striker for me.
00:31:08He always went in patches where he was on fire.
00:31:10Yeah.
00:31:11Then he would go 10 or 15 games without a goal,
00:31:12and then he would score 10 and 7 or something.
00:31:14He's always been that type of striker, streaky,
00:31:16but great career at St Johnston.
00:31:19And at 31, I thought he was older than that.
00:31:21I think he seems to have been around for ages.
00:31:22And he'd be joining big Ryan McGowan,
00:31:25who left for St Johnston and went to Livingston as well.
00:31:27So Livingston just seemed to be building a bad wee squad
00:31:29in terms of experience.
00:31:30Yeah.
00:31:31The other thing about Stevie May was, for me,
00:31:36he was a really good player,
00:31:38but when he joined Preston and he got that bad injury,
00:31:41that really affected him.
00:31:43Yeah, and we've seen that time and time again,
00:31:44I think, with players who get injuries at the wrong times
00:31:47can really affect how your career path goes.
00:31:50I've known him a long time.
00:31:53When I was a youth player at Dundee United,
00:31:55it was myself and the St Johnston boys
00:31:58and the Dundee All were in the same college class on a Wednesday
00:32:00because they used to do a college course on a Wednesday.
00:32:03And there was 25 of us in that class.
00:32:06I think there was 15 players in that college class
00:32:09went on to have careers.
00:32:09So I've followed his career for a long time.
00:32:12I've obviously played against him,
00:32:14but, listen, Livingston might just be the place for him
00:32:16to get his love back again.
00:32:17Yeah, I'm dying to know where Duke is.
00:32:19Where's Kenneth? Read that out.
00:32:21What one?
00:32:24Lennon for a broth.
00:32:27Yeah.
00:32:27What's he smoking?
00:32:30I mean, it was just doing all,
00:32:31it was just the whole program's about you getting a guy against it.
00:32:34It's not a good day to do it.
00:32:36It was too good, but rubbish.
00:32:39Kenny says need cover it right back at Aberdeen.
00:32:41Devlin struggles against decent opposition.
00:32:44Wow, I think Nicky Devlin's one of the better players for Aberdeen, Kenny.
00:32:48Do you agree?
00:32:49The big search for me is where's Duke?
00:32:52Where is Duke, man?
00:32:53Where is he?
00:32:54It could be a program on its own.
00:32:55Could be Kevin Nisbet next door.
00:32:57Nobody's allowed to ask a question.
00:32:58Yeah, Kevin Nisbet's been linked, I thought.
00:33:01I'm absolutely certain that Dundee United, Hibs,
00:33:04teams like that would be after Kevin Nisbet.
00:33:06I think he'd done really well at Hibs.
00:33:09It seems to be about the picture at Millwall for whatever reason.
00:33:12Wasn't in the squad at the weekend, I noticed,
00:33:13so I think you'll find him on his way up to Scotland somewhere.
00:33:16Yeah, and a great line here from Jason Ladd.
00:33:19Now, I'm going to read Jason Ladd's line out,
00:33:23if only for a certain generation who watch this show,
00:33:27because he said Lord Dookin.
00:33:33Lord Dookin.
00:33:34Now, Jason obviously gets that.
00:33:36People of 40 years and above get that,
00:33:39because quite simply, there was a person in the 70s,
00:33:43and it's one of these great mysteries.
00:33:46He disappeared.
00:33:47Is that Lord Lookin?
00:33:48And his name was Lord Lookin, so play on words.
00:33:51Hello from the man who absolutely thrives on it, thick as mints.
00:33:56Lord Dookin, well done, Jason.
00:33:57I'm well happy with that one.
00:33:59Where is he?
00:34:01We don't know, but nevertheless,
00:34:04Aberdeen have got to try and get a few faces in as well,
00:34:09but the ones that Jimmy Tolleen has got in,
00:34:11what a start to the season for the Dons, isn't it?
00:34:13Yeah, they've been excellent.
00:34:14I think in forward areas, they look really good.
00:34:16I know Duke would really add to that,
00:34:18but listen, if he doesn't turn back, I think Kevin Nisbet,
00:34:23as much as I'd love him to go back to Hibs,
00:34:25I think I could probably see why he would want someone like Kevin Nisbet there,
00:34:29because his hold up plays really good,
00:34:31and when he does get half a chance,
00:34:33he did take it when he was up here.
00:34:35Some of his goals and the Variety's goals were excellent,
00:34:38so Aberdeen fans have got something really positive to look forward to this year,
00:34:43whereas on the Hibs end, I know we spoke about it at the start,
00:34:46I thought Hibs would have done really well this year.
00:34:49I know it's early doors, but one guy's come in,
00:34:52and you can see what he's trying to do,
00:34:54and I still feel that David Gray is trying to find his best team,
00:34:57and when you're constantly talking about getting signings in as a fan base,
00:35:02and obviously all the pundits and everybody that's watching them,
00:35:06there's something not right there.
00:35:08And I think that's worrying.
00:35:11It's interesting you saying that,
00:35:12because I'm going to defend what I think is a growing number of moaning-faced fans
00:35:17about Stevie Naismith,
00:35:18and I think Stevie Naismith got them third last year,
00:35:21and they need to just belt up and let him get on with it.
00:35:24We'll hear from Craig Gordon shortly,
00:35:25but I think Stevie Naismith's got a side there that slowly but surely,
00:35:30they've backed him,
00:35:32and I equally think the same of David Gray.
00:35:34For God's sake, if I'm suddenly employing somebody and saying,
00:35:38listen, you've got seven programmes and you don't get it right,
00:35:40I'm bulleting you.
00:35:42That's where I feel he might not be getting the support.
00:35:45The performance on Sunday,
00:35:47he set his team up all week to go with the five at the back.
00:35:52He can't control the decision-making on the part,
00:35:55and that's been a victim of some of the transfer windows over recent years.
00:36:01Obviously, trying to then mould a new back line
00:36:06amongst having a new goalkeeper,
00:36:07well, it's very difficult,
00:36:09and the fixtures haven't been nice to him,
00:36:10so the next two fixtures,
00:36:12I'm sure it's Dundee home,
00:36:13Kelly away.
00:36:16This is the game where the players need to show their faith in David Gray
00:36:21and put on a performance for him and the fans.
00:36:24Yeah, absolutely.
00:36:25Okay, we're going to talk Hearts against Victoria Pilsen,
00:36:28we're going to talk Copenhagen against Kilmarnock after the headlines.
00:36:32Hi there, I'm Kerry and here is your Daily News update
00:36:34on Wednesday the 21st of August,
00:36:36brought to you by Arnold Clarke.
00:36:37Former Kilmarnock man Mark Riley feels there should be no complaints
00:36:40about the amount of games being played
00:36:41as he feels the rugby park side have got what they wished for.
00:36:44They've just got to get on with it and dig in,
00:36:46and that's what they're here for,
00:36:48that's what they wanted.
00:36:49They wanted these European ties,
00:36:51they wanted all these games at the start of the season,
00:36:53that's what the aim was last season,
00:36:55to finish high up in the league and qualify for Europe,
00:36:58that's the aim,
00:36:59so when that happens I don't think you can complain too much.
00:37:03And Kilmarnock's Rory McKenzie expresses his excitement
00:37:05as the rugby park side take on Copenhagen
00:37:07in the Europa Conference League play-off tie on Thursday night.
00:37:11It's a city I visited last year and absolutely loved,
00:37:15and it's a bit of a glamour tie for me,
00:37:17it's just a place I'm really looking forward to going,
00:37:19I've never been to their stadium,
00:37:20I went to a Champions League game when they played Celtic,
00:37:25their fans are unbelievable.
00:37:26Finally, as the transfer window looms,
00:37:27Manchester City have expressed their interest
00:37:29in Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhachi.

00:38:05giving us your thoughts on the transfer window,
00:38:07your team, whatever,
00:38:09and you can also send us a message as well,
00:38:12it'll drop in there and we'll be using some of your videos,
00:38:16so download the app and have a bit of fun with us,
00:38:18and if you are someone,
00:38:20I think you've got to be someone who's got an opinion,
00:38:22stands by the conviction of what you're going to say,
00:38:25because you do it, Tam,
00:38:26so if there's fans out there with a view,
00:38:28download the app and record yourself.
00:38:29Absolutely, I want to hear people's opinions,
00:38:31get them on and we can argue the case,
00:38:34but you've got to have the bottle to post it.
00:38:37Well, absolutely,
00:38:38and we're only two games into the season,
00:38:40but what about your man here,
00:38:42I think he's settled in well.
00:38:44Yeah, slow start,
00:38:45slow start, I thought I came onto you again
00:38:47in the last 10, 15 minutes.
00:38:50I was wondering why Rory McKenzie
00:38:51was on the Copenhagen end,
00:38:52I thought I'd settled it far.
00:38:53Yeah, I was just about to say that.
00:38:55I was thinking,
00:38:59I was thinking the exact same thing.
00:39:00He finds it all brilliant.
00:39:01Yeah, absolutely,
00:39:03yeah, well, I must ask him,
00:39:06but the other thing,
00:39:07strangely enough though,
00:39:09I mean, I've got my Borussia Dortmund sweatshirt on,
00:39:11much to the annoyance of Tam here,
00:39:13but I do like going to games,
00:39:17you know, right across the board,
00:39:19anywhere, I mean,
00:39:19that was the Champions League final against Real Madrid,
00:39:21which was an absolute joy,
00:39:23but I do like going to see lots of other teams.
00:39:26Is there a particular game,
00:39:28as a footballer,
00:39:30that you thought,
00:39:31I'm going to go as a fan with my boy,
00:39:32or go and see a game in Europe?
00:39:34Is there a game that sticks in your mind?
00:39:37I've been to a few Champions League finals.
00:39:40Yeah?
00:39:40Yeah, Chelsea and Munich,
00:39:42Drogba, mine were ahead of Barca-Juve and Berlin.
00:39:47My dad, I was going to go to that final at the weekend,
00:39:50in the summer, sorry,
00:39:52my dad went to it,
00:39:52but I went on holiday instead.
00:39:54Yeah.
00:39:55I think off the top of my head,
00:39:57I don't know, I like,
00:40:00I used to like going to Championship games,
00:40:01see, when I was down South,
00:40:03I used to like that,
00:40:04I would take a drive,
00:40:05Andy Hardy used to live in Middlesbrough,
00:40:07see, if Leeds were Sunday,
00:40:09we're playing,
00:40:09I would, we would kind of meet halfway
00:40:11and go to games if our team wasn't on that night,
00:40:13so not any off the top of my head,
00:40:16apart from the Champions League finals,
00:40:18just because of the occasion,
00:40:19but I like Scottish football,
00:40:20Scottish football is on the TV,
00:40:21I watch Scottish football.
00:40:23Yeah.
00:40:23I agree, I've always said that,
00:40:24Peter, that I watch a Scottish Premier League game
00:40:26than an English Premier League game.
00:40:28Yeah?
00:40:28I think it's more honesty about it,
00:40:29and I don't know, I prefer Scottish football.
00:40:31I think you find a lot of boys in Scottish football,
00:40:34that play in Scottish football,
00:40:35and have came through,
00:40:36they all like our game.
00:40:38Yeah, absolutely.
00:40:40Yeah, I agree with you wholeheartedly,
00:40:42but I do, I've always loved,
00:40:44since I was a kid,
00:40:45English football.
00:40:46Which game have you ever been to,
00:40:47outwith Scotland?
00:40:49Ah, Barcelona against Manchester United in Rome,
00:40:52Barcelona just dismantled them.
00:40:54That's right.
00:40:55Ronaldo tried to be an individual,
00:40:58and Messi and Co, Xavi and Yes,
00:41:00Messi would have put up with that.
00:41:01They just, Messi scored with a header.
00:41:03That's right, yeah.
00:41:04And they just absolutely dismantled them,
00:41:06they were an absolute joyous,
00:41:07they are, for me,
00:41:09and this is a great argument,
00:41:10let's have a list on this,
00:41:12but the best club side,
00:41:14I've ever seen,
00:41:16in European football.
00:41:17That Barcelona side?
00:41:18That Barcelona side.
00:41:18Yeah, absolutely, I agree, 100%.
00:41:20Whereas, Hugh Macdonald thinks,
00:41:22you know, it's the,
00:41:25possibly the AC Milan side,
00:41:26with Hulot, Rijkaard and Van Basten.
00:41:31They dominated for three years,
00:41:32in European football.
00:41:33Was that?
00:41:3489.
00:41:3589, yeah.
00:41:36Not at the same level,
00:41:38football surely,
00:41:39in terms of the passing and that.
00:41:40Yeah, well.
00:41:41That was defensive minded, weren't they?
00:41:42That passing.
00:41:44Yeah, they didn't lose goals,
00:41:45put it that way.
00:41:45The Barcelona team was incredible.
00:41:48It's such a good argument, isn't it?
00:41:49It's a great pub argument,
00:41:50because of every generation,
00:41:53they would look and say to you,
00:41:54well, you know,
00:41:55this side that dominated,
00:41:57Ajax dominated the early 70s,
00:41:58mid 70s, Bayern Munich dominated,
00:42:01you know, Barcelona, AC Milan,
00:42:03what's the greatest European club side ever?
00:42:05Some people of a certain generation
00:42:07would say, well listen,
00:42:07if you were young,
00:42:08if I spoke,
00:42:09if Alex Ferguson was sitting here right now,
00:42:10he'd say, no, no,
00:42:11Real Madrid,
00:42:12you know,
00:42:131959 to 1965,
00:42:17yeah, you know, so.
00:42:18Shall we take the 67 team?
00:42:21A lot of people would argue that.
00:42:22Yeah, they do.
00:42:23They win everything at you.
00:42:24Yeah, but for European dominance,
00:42:27although they did reach another final in 1970,
00:42:29but...
00:42:30So is Messi the best player you've seen in the flesh?
00:42:33No, it's...
00:42:34Oh, Pele.
00:42:37No, no.
00:42:37I've seen Pele playing for the Cosmos,
00:42:39and even at that age,
00:42:41he was still better than anybody else.
00:42:44No, absolutely sensational.
00:42:46Okay, so Victoria Pilsen against Hearts.
00:42:50I really want Hearts to keep this one alive,
00:42:53and see them off in this playoff,
00:42:55and get a huge kitty of money.
00:42:58I want Scottish football,
00:43:01you know, to do really well.
00:43:02I really would love to see Hearts,
00:43:03you know,
00:43:05take this with a scruff of the neck,
00:43:07get it back to Tyne Castle,
00:43:08get the place buzzing,
00:43:10and I don't think any player needs to be lifted for this game,
00:43:13according to Craig Gordon.
00:43:16We've got a European game coming up.
00:43:19Nobody should need lifted for that.
00:43:21It's a huge opportunity for us against a very good team,
00:43:25and we'll need to stick together,
00:43:27and we'll need to come out fighting,
00:43:28and make sure that we do it in the right way.
00:43:32But yeah, we have to stick together as a squad,
00:43:35and fight for one another to get what we want out of this coming week.
00:43:39It's a strange situation,
00:43:40not a great start for Hearts,
00:43:42just needs a wee bit of time to get it all together with the new players.
00:43:45Yeah, there was positives obviously in the opening day,
00:43:48but that's similar,
00:43:49that's maybe what Craig Gordon's touching on there,
00:43:52they managed to get themselves up for that,
00:43:53because Rangers come to Tyne Castle,
00:43:55it's a big game opening day,
00:43:56and then the two following performances haven't been good.
00:44:01We spoke last week, didn't we,
00:44:02that Falkirk, that would be a,
00:44:04that was going to be a real difficult game,
00:44:05and it proved that,
00:44:07and Falkirk were obviously well worth their win,
00:44:08so it's a huge game,
00:44:11it's a huge game for me,
00:44:12I think they've just got to stay in the tie,
00:44:14get them back to Tyne Castle,
00:44:15no easy task,
00:44:16right enough a Europa League game,
00:44:18sitting second in the Czech League,
00:44:20so it's going to be difficult,
00:44:21but Stephen A Smith needs more out of his players for this one,
00:44:26and that is a hard ask I think.
00:44:29Yeah, a strange situation,
00:44:31we've witnessed this before with some Hearts fans who are never happy,
00:44:35they were never happy,
00:44:35you always felt as if they were on the edge with Robbie Nielsen,
00:44:38and eventually he's gone,
00:44:40Stephen A Smith has got them to third in the league,
00:44:42you know they had 20 wins,
00:44:4410 wins at home,
00:44:4510 wins away,
00:44:46and 10 defeats over the course of last season,
00:44:49and draws in the other matches,
00:44:52I'm dying to know,
00:44:55what are they looking for,
00:44:57you know, give the guy a break,
00:44:58cut him some slack.
00:44:59Yeah, I think they're similar to the Hibs fans,
00:45:00I think that a lot of supporters make their mind up early doors about people,
00:45:03and they don't want to be proven wrong,
00:45:05I think with Robbie Nielsen,
00:45:07I thought he'd done really well,
00:45:08got them into the Championship,
00:45:09got them into the Premier League,
00:45:10I remember the plane flying over during one of the games,
00:45:13no Nielsen out,
00:45:13no Dane okay,
00:45:15I think obviously losing to Hibs,
00:45:17when Hibs went on and won the Scottish Cup as well,
00:45:20was a big blow for Robbie Nielsen,
00:45:21but no, I think that Stephen A Smith deserves a lot of time,
00:45:26I think he's earned it,
00:45:27he's got credit in the bank Peter,
00:45:28he's had a tough run to start the season,
00:45:30I don't see them beating Pilsen,
00:45:31I think you look at Czech teams over the last four or five years,
00:45:35part of Prague I think it was,
00:45:36beat Celtic home and away,
00:45:37you know that absolutely hammered them,
00:45:39I think Slavia Prague beat Rangers in the Europa League as well,
00:45:42so I think the Czech teams are good sides,
00:45:46and I think that Hearts will struggle to beat them,
00:45:48they'll obviously go right into the Conference League,
00:45:51I think it'd be a big upset for me if Hearts turn over Pilsen,
00:45:54a big upset.
00:45:55Yeah I do as well,
00:45:56I think with both Edinburgh teams,
00:45:58I think maybe in the last three years,
00:46:00there seems to be even more expectation on both clubs,
00:46:04in terms of the transfer market and the league,
00:46:07and the managers that have come in,
00:46:08I don't know if that's because obviously the financial backing,
00:46:11then comes pressure to have that form of consistency,
00:46:15but I think with Nae Smith and David Gray,
00:46:19they both need time to get,
00:46:21A for Nae Smith,
00:46:22he needs to mould this team,
00:46:23because there is some really good players in there,
00:46:25and from a Hibbs point of view,
00:46:27like we said earlier,
00:46:28letting him find his feet and get on the right side.
00:46:32Okay, if we're slightly despondent,
00:46:34about Victoria Pilsen against Hearts,
00:46:36where's your mood for Copenhagen against Kelly?
00:46:40It could be one of the years,
00:46:42where it's the right time to play Copenhagen,
00:46:43they obviously sneaked through the previous tie,
00:46:48with Derek McInnes,
00:46:50week in week out,
00:46:51we've spoken about him producing results,
00:46:52what he'd done last week,
00:46:54so again, I think the away ties,
00:46:57it's about staying in it,
00:46:59giving yourself a chance,
00:47:00when you come,
00:47:01get them back home,
00:47:02and then having a game plan,
00:47:04to maybe frustrate your set pieces,
00:47:06and your counter attack,
00:47:07then come into play.
00:47:09Yeah, Kelly legend,
00:47:10Mark Roberts was speaking to Patrick Mullin this week,
00:47:12you can hear the extended interview,
00:47:14on our YouTube channel,
00:47:15of course,
00:47:16I think Mark Riley,
00:47:18like Scott Allen,
00:47:19would like to see the second leg alive,
00:47:22so that Kelly can really have a go at Copenhagen.
00:47:26I think it is important,
00:47:27they'll be looking to,
00:47:30get through Thursday night,
00:47:31and still be in a position,
00:47:32where the tie is still alive for them,
00:47:35taking them to Rugby Park.
00:47:37Command will do well normally at Rugby Park,
00:47:39I think they'll probably be a little bit disappointed,
00:47:41with their domestic start,
00:47:42obviously at the season,
00:47:44but normally they're quite difficult,
00:47:46to play against at Rugby Park,
00:47:48so yeah,
00:47:48I think that is the big thing,
00:47:49keeping the tie alive,
00:47:51so that they can bring Copenhagen to Rugby Park,
00:47:55and still have an opportunity,
00:47:57to get into the group stages.
00:47:59Yeah, that's what I'd like to see,
00:48:00you want to see it alive for that second leg.
00:48:03Yeah, and that's the difficulty,
00:48:04we've seen it all along,
00:48:05Peter, that's why come on,
00:48:06it was a great result away to Tromso,
00:48:07there's not many other teams,
00:48:08go away from home and win in Europe,
00:48:09I think at home,
00:48:10you know,
00:48:11fans behind them,
00:48:12you know,
00:48:12you can get good results,
00:48:14and I'm talking about the L2 Rangers as well,
00:48:15and the other teams,
00:48:16but away from home,
00:48:17I think it's always proven difficult to get results,
00:48:19so if they can go to Copenhagen,
00:48:21listen,
00:48:22win the games out of this world,
00:48:23draw the game,
00:48:24or even a one goal defeat,
00:48:25you just want to come back,
00:48:27and be a full rugby park,
00:48:28and be a chance to get through,
00:48:29if they go away and get beat two or three nothing,
00:48:31then they're out.
00:48:32Yeah, okay.
00:48:34Elsewhere,
00:48:35as far as that is concerned,
00:48:37Rory McKenzie,
00:48:38I think sharing your view on this,
00:48:41we want to see both sides in European football
00:48:44for as long as possible,
00:48:45I think like many a footballer,
00:48:47Rory McKenzie admits,
00:48:48you just got a different test.
00:48:50No, I know,
00:48:51I know you just,
00:48:52they were actually,
00:48:53the majority of the fans on Thursday were,
00:48:56there was a pub across the road from where we were staying,
00:48:58so we saw them at various points in the day,
00:49:01and they just looked like they were having a ball,
00:49:02and for us as well,
00:49:06we just feel,
00:49:06it feels different going away and training on a Wednesday night,
00:49:10just being flying on a chartered plane,
00:49:13it's just something I've never experienced,
00:49:14and you feel like a,
00:49:16I don't know where our football is,
00:49:17but you feel like a real footballer,
00:49:18you know the big ones,
00:49:20the big ones down south travelling,
00:49:21and you know,
00:49:22doing everything right,
00:49:23and it's just been a great experience.
00:49:27Yeah, I love it.
00:49:27You feel like a superstar,
00:49:28I just said that,
00:49:29that's what he was thinking.
00:49:30I love Rory McKenzie,
00:49:31that's just great.
00:49:32It just shows you doesn't it,
00:49:34how he can tell in his voice,
00:49:35how excited he is for it,
00:49:38and these games don't come around often
00:49:42for a lot of Scottish players,
00:49:43so it'll be one he'll be really relishing.
00:49:46Yeah, have you ever come up against a player who,
00:49:48we're going to get your story in a minute,
00:49:50but have you ever come up against a player that you thought,
00:49:53I thought I was good,
00:49:53but this level is just,
00:49:54he's just doing me in.
00:49:56Aye, hundreds, hundreds.
00:50:01Off it off my head?
00:50:01Yeah.
00:50:02I'll need to make a list of people.
00:50:03Yeah?
00:50:03I'll need to make a list,
00:50:04I'll bring it next week.
00:50:07No, none, off it.
00:50:08There must have been someone
00:50:09that gave you an absolute roasting.
00:50:12Middle of the park.
00:50:13I think when you play number 10 though,
00:50:14it's just like,
00:50:17I've played like Verratti,
00:50:19I've played against Verratti,
00:50:19one who maybe sticks out for Scotland 21s
00:50:21and nobody could get near him.
00:50:23No, he's a special player.
00:50:24I played him and Mbile,
00:50:26the striker that was at Lazio.
00:50:28Yeah.
00:50:29And Insigne, I think I'm saying that right,
00:50:31he was at Napoli,
00:50:32the three in the same team,
00:50:33we played him at Easter Road with Scotland
00:50:35and they hadn't lost a game in the whole campaign,
00:50:38even the friendlies,
00:50:38and Verratti was playing number six,
00:50:41I was playing number 10.
00:50:43I didn't see the ball.
00:50:45Tam?
00:50:50Top of my head.
00:50:52Probably
00:50:56Mravcic, but again I'm a striker,
00:50:58so I wasn't,
00:50:58I was seven and a half,
00:50:59but in terms of guys on the same pitch as,
00:51:03either Mravcic or Mikel Arteta,
00:51:05we played Rangers at Ibrox
00:51:08and I played up front myself
00:51:11and we did Barry Ferguson and Arteta,
00:51:14was the two midfielders for Rangers
00:51:15and Alec McLeish said to me,
00:51:16you need to drop into one of them.
00:51:19So basically when we never did ball,
00:51:20we'd have men behind the ball
00:51:21and I had to drop into one of them,
00:51:22hit the ball,
00:51:23and all I'd done all day,
00:51:2560, 65 minutes then I got hooked,
00:51:26was just chase after Barry,
00:51:27he passed it to Arteta,
00:51:28he passed it back to Barrick and Gnilam,
00:51:30it was probably the two of Mravcic
00:51:31when he was at Celtic.
00:51:32Yeah, were you breathing at your back end?
00:51:35I was aye,
00:51:36I mean I think we only lost 2-1
00:51:37but it could have been about 10-1 that day.
00:51:39Yeah, you might as well tell,
00:51:41this is a great...
00:51:42Rooney story.
00:51:42Tell us a Rooney story.
00:51:45Well I've got two,
00:51:46actually there's been two Rooney stories,
00:51:47I played against them twice,
00:51:48the first one I was 20,
00:51:50I was at Hibs and I'd just come back
00:51:52from a broken leg,
00:51:53I broke my leg in the January
00:51:54and this was the pre-season in the July
00:51:56and we played Everton,
00:51:57Davy Moyes brought his team up
00:51:59and it was a real proper England v Scotland game,
00:52:02it was no quarter given,
00:52:04no quarter asked
00:52:05and we went 2-1 up,
00:52:07I came on and scored
00:52:08and I celebrated as if I'd won a World Cup top off
00:52:10and all that
00:52:10and a friendly right,
00:52:11because I'd been out for six months,
00:52:13the equalised
00:52:14and then about 10 minutes to go,
00:52:15Wayne Rooney was playing,
00:52:16he was 15,
00:52:17and he was like a bull
00:52:20and he went in
00:52:20and Gary Smith went in
00:52:21and just topped him,
00:52:23so it was a bit of a scuffle
00:52:24and I've ran over to get involved
00:52:26as I always did
00:52:27and Wayne Rooney just got me in a headlock,
00:52:29like he's 15 year old right,
00:52:31and just got me in a headlock,
00:52:31couldn't move,
00:52:32I thought my god,
00:52:33he's going to strangle me
00:52:34and then after the game,
00:52:36I came in and the boys were giving me dog's abuse,
00:52:38a wee guy at 15 hits you in a headlock,
00:52:40absolutely batters you,
00:52:41he's waiting for you with a ball or not,
00:52:43so that was the first one,
00:52:45the second one is about seven years later,
00:52:48I'm playing in Scott Thompson,
00:52:49Nippers Testimonial,
00:52:50Dunfermline v Man United
00:52:52and Alec Ferguson brought up,
00:52:53what a team,
00:52:53he brought up Vidich,
00:52:55Piquet,
00:52:56Scholes,
00:52:56Giggs,
00:52:57Rooney,
00:52:57Fletcher
00:52:59and we were three nothing down
00:53:00in the first half
00:53:01and I got the ball in the halfway line
00:53:03and I was picking it up to just pick a pass
00:53:05and all I heard was,
00:53:05yep, yep, yep,
00:53:06and I just passed it sideways without looking
00:53:08because I thought it was one of your players
00:53:09and it was Rooney,
00:53:10he ran all the way through
00:53:11and chipped Dink to goalie,
00:53:13so after that I've got a great picture
00:53:14of me and him cuddling
00:53:15and he's just laughing,
00:53:15saying I got you there,
00:53:16so that was the two stories with me and Rooney
00:53:18but the first one,
00:53:20I knew he was destined for greatness
00:53:21because he was 15 years old
00:53:22playing in Everton's team
00:53:23and I thought,
00:53:24what a football player he is,
00:53:25he's going to have a great career
00:53:26and he did,
00:53:27he was world class.
00:53:28Yeah,
00:53:28some people actually might view his line
00:53:31when he said,
00:53:31when I got into the Everton team,
00:53:33I knew I was the best player,
00:53:34as a wee bit of arrogance
00:53:35but I suppose,
00:53:36if you're at,
00:53:3616 youngest ever goalscorer in the Premier League.
00:53:38If you're at that level
00:53:39and you know,
00:53:39you know.
00:53:40I always remember,
00:53:41that was at the time,
00:53:42I must have been third year at school
00:53:44when you started to get the videos on your phone,
00:53:46the Wayne Rooney one,
00:53:47was one of the first videos that you got,
00:53:49I'm scrolling that.
00:53:49Against Arsenal.
00:53:50Against Arsenal.
00:53:52And then obviously,
00:53:53you've gone to see the career,
00:53:54he has technical genius,
00:53:55along with all the other stuff.
00:53:56My favourite video was in the one,
00:53:58when he's out in America
00:53:59and he runs,
00:54:00he runs 60 yards,
00:54:01wins the tackle and then,
00:54:03lasers with a laser,
00:54:04right in the back post.
00:54:05It is the best example,
00:54:08of a professional footballer,
00:54:10to show you,
00:54:11never give in.
00:54:12100%.
00:54:13You know,
00:54:13it was just,
00:54:14it's a brilliant video.
00:54:15Just,
00:54:15you probably don't know this in joke,
00:54:17but Gary Connor,
00:54:19does know.
00:54:20He's just sent us a message saying,
00:54:21Pedro,
00:54:22what number did Charlie Adam put on Matt O'Reilly?
00:54:27350 grand.
00:54:28It's 350 grand with add-ons of 50,000,
00:54:31if he makes a certain amount of appearances.
00:54:34He praised Edward,
00:54:35when he was going,
00:54:36he said,
00:54:36three or going five or six million,
00:54:37he's like,
00:54:38ah, they'll get him for a million.
00:54:39He's just flabbergasted.
00:54:41Charlie would sit here in the studio,
00:54:43just as a great,
00:54:43he was just a brilliant.
00:54:44Now he is a brilliant.
00:54:45So,
00:54:45anybody that was potentially,
00:54:47going to be moving from Celtic,
00:54:48I'd say,
00:54:49Charlie,
00:54:49what do you think?
00:54:50He says,
00:54:50oh, we'll get him for a million,
00:54:51you know,
00:54:51and it was like,
00:54:52and maybe a couple of thousand add-ons,
00:54:54and then you go.
00:54:55The feed was going mental.
00:54:56We're all going bananas,
00:54:57and then he goes,
00:54:58what about Morelos?
00:54:59Oh, easily,
00:55:00they've got 30 million for him,
00:55:01by the way.
00:55:02Honestly,
00:55:02see when he said that that day,
00:55:03I nearly fell off the chair.
00:55:05Charlie was absolutely top drawer.
00:55:08Thanks to so many people,
00:55:10who mentioned,
00:55:12yeah,
00:55:12William Smith has just said,
00:55:1440 million for Morelos.
00:55:17Yeah,
00:55:17I remember it well,
00:55:18William.
00:55:18Charlie was absolutely top drawer,
00:55:21and Rudy was a special player.
00:55:22I think everybody is agreed on that.
00:55:26Just before we go,
00:55:28just a couple of things,
00:55:28a couple of quick things.
00:55:30Jamie Vardy's celebration,
00:55:33to the Tottenham fans,
00:55:34I love a noise up.
00:55:35I thought it was brilliant.
00:55:37Aye, I think,
00:55:38that's his father,
00:55:39isn't it?
00:55:39He just looks like he's never changed.
00:55:42Still amazing in the box as well.
00:55:44Did you ever give anybody the...
00:55:46Nah.
00:55:47Nah.
00:55:47No?
00:55:48I wasn't really like that,
00:55:49to be off the top of my head.
00:55:51Nah,
00:55:51not really.
00:55:52Tam?
00:55:53Tam, definitely.
00:55:54Tam was celebrating his top up,
00:55:55in a friendly.
00:55:58The lap dancing one with the pole,
00:56:00that was the best one.
00:56:01Do you want me to tell you something?
00:56:02Honestly,
00:56:02I put that in the list,
00:56:03when you were talking about it
00:56:04on the journos show,
00:56:06we're talking about the top 10 noise ups,
00:56:08and I put Tam,
00:56:09Dundee United,
00:56:10swivels down pole,
00:56:12in a provocative manner.
00:56:13Yep,
00:56:13that was it,
00:56:13that was it.
00:56:14Aye,
00:56:14because I was getting pelts,
00:56:15off of Dundee United fans,
00:56:16for going to the strippers,
00:56:17the week before.
00:56:20The story's online Scotty,
00:56:21you need to read it,
00:56:22it's a great story mate,
00:56:23and aye,
00:56:24so I get fined two weeks,
00:56:25well,
00:56:25I get fined a week's wages,
00:56:26a week before,
00:56:27and then I get fined a week's wages,
00:56:28for the celebration.
00:56:29Yeah,
00:56:29absolutely.
00:56:29From toasting beans,
00:56:30for the next two weeks.
00:56:31Yeah,
00:56:31one of the finest pole dancers,
00:56:33you're ever likely to see,
00:56:34on this show.
00:56:35I often try and cover,
00:56:37as many football stories as possible,
00:56:39get the lad's thoughts on it,
00:56:40because,
00:56:40it is after all,
00:56:41the only thing missing,
00:56:42is a pint,
00:56:43on this programme,
00:56:43where we can,
00:56:44shoot the breeze,
00:56:45and have a laugh,
00:56:45about these things,
00:56:46but,
00:56:47on a sad note,
00:56:48and really,
00:56:49I think it's well worthy,
00:56:50of a mention,
00:56:51Sven-Jørgen Eriksson,
00:56:53I think he's recorded a video,
00:56:55and I have to say,
00:56:57you know,
00:56:57absolutely gutted,
00:56:58because,
00:56:59he just said,
00:57:00I had a good life,
00:57:01I think we're all,
00:57:03scared of the day,
00:57:03when we die,
00:57:04but life is about death as well,
00:57:06you have to learn,
00:57:06to accept it,
00:57:07for what it is,
00:57:08hopefully,
00:57:09at the end,
00:57:09people will say,
00:57:10yeah,
00:57:10he was a good man,
00:57:11but not everyone will say that,
00:57:13I hope you'll remember me,
00:57:14as a positive guy,
00:57:16trying to do everything,
00:57:17he could do,
00:57:17don't be sorry,
00:57:19smile,
00:57:20thank you for everything,
00:57:21coaches,
00:57:21players,
00:57:22the crowds,
00:57:23it's been fantastic,
00:57:24take care of yourself,
00:57:26and take care of your life,
00:57:28and live it,
00:57:29bye.
00:57:30Yeah,
00:57:30really,
00:57:32for anyone,
00:57:32in particular,
00:57:33you know,
00:57:33who's,
00:57:35coming to the end of their life,
00:57:36with cancer,
00:57:36whoever it is,
00:57:37it's really,
00:57:38really sad,
00:57:39to see that,
00:57:40Swerin was a flamboyant character,
00:57:41you know,
00:57:42he did live his life,
00:57:43you know,
00:57:44and he,
00:57:44he lived the most in the tabloids,
00:57:46England manager,
00:57:48great managerial career,
00:57:50seems a fun guy as well,
00:57:51so no,
00:57:51I've seen that,
00:57:52seen that today as well,
00:57:53really,
00:57:53really,
00:57:54sad to see someone like that,
00:57:56going to pass away.
00:57:56And a wee touch of class,
00:57:57from David Beckham,
00:57:58going over as well,
00:57:59with a bottle of wine,
00:58:01you know,
00:58:01and just seeing his old gaffer.
00:58:03Yeah,
00:58:04I think that's a touch of class,
00:58:05but obviously,
00:58:06shows the measure of a man that,
00:58:08how highly,
00:58:09he was regarded by Beckham,
00:58:10and probably the rest of his,
00:58:11his England teammates,
00:58:12like,
00:58:12like Dam says as well,
00:58:13it's just,
00:58:14really sad,
00:58:15and it's something that comes to us all,
00:58:16but,
00:58:17it's never easy.
00:58:18Yeah,
00:58:19absolutely.
00:58:20I didn't want to end it on,
00:58:22a sombre note,
00:58:23but I think,
00:58:24on reflection,
00:58:24you get a chance to see,
00:58:26some managers,
00:58:27at their absolute peak,
00:58:29you see them at club level,
00:58:30and you see them,
00:58:31at international level,
00:58:32and Sven Jørgensen,
00:58:34managed to achieve one of his dreams,
00:58:35managing a Liverpool Legends team,
00:58:37at Anfield as well.
00:58:39I think a lot of people will look back,
00:58:41with,
00:58:42not only great sadness that he's passing away,
00:58:44but fondness,
00:58:46at his contribution to football,
00:58:48and behalf of everybody in the football show,
00:58:50I think we pass on,
00:58:52again,
00:58:52our best wishes to Sven,
00:58:54at these last few moments of his life.
00:58:57The football show,
00:58:58if you get a chance,
00:58:59if you love football,
00:59:00if you love the banter,
00:59:01we do,
00:59:02ask you to try and share our YouTube,
00:59:05video with your friends,
00:59:06if you get a chance,
00:59:07hit the subscribe button,
00:59:08it only takes you two seconds.
00:59:10The one key element,
00:59:11that we would like to emphasise to you is,
00:59:13it's absolutely free,
00:59:15and thank you for the support,
00:59:16that we've got over the course of last season,
00:59:18and this season,
00:59:19we'd like to make a few signings,
00:59:21it could be difficult in the negotiations,
00:59:23for Lennon back on a Monday,
00:59:24Tam,
00:59:24but we're,
00:59:25I don't think he'll be back to the Mary,
00:59:27until he's got his suitcase full of Euros.
00:59:32Who am I?
00:59:33That's pretty much summed up.
00:59:35That's exactly it.
00:59:37Emptying all your clothes out,
00:59:38and just all Euros.
00:59:39Absolutely,
00:59:39just I'm not taking any clothes back with me.
00:59:41Just be training here,
00:59:42teasing that bit of you.
00:59:43Just need to,
00:59:44yeah,
00:59:44I don't think it'll be too long,
00:59:45before you and I will be,
00:59:46well,
00:59:47definitely meeting.
00:59:48We were planning to go over and see a game or not?
00:59:50No,
00:59:50we were actually going to go over and see a game.
00:59:51I'm battling with a booty now,
00:59:52if I used to boys.
00:59:53It's definitely Chelsea,
00:59:54yeah,
00:59:54give each other a high six.
00:59:56Anyway,
00:59:56on that note,
00:59:57thanks to everyone for watching the show.
01:00:00See you later.
01:00:05Bye.
