NSW Premier downplays Liberal defeat in council nominations, with 140 candidates sidelined

The Premier of New South Wales insists there’s no sense of celebration over the Liberals conceding defeat in their council nominations fight. After days of threatening legal action, they’ve decided to accept the result, leaving about 140 Liberal candidates on the sidelines.

00:54While people here in Camden will still have some choice, there'll be voters elsewhere who'll have none.
00:59By abandoning its threats of legal action, the Liberal Party's ensured some council results are set in stone.

01:25While in other shires, like Junee, there aren't even enough candidates to fill all the positions.
01:30Perhaps it's just because they're so confident that we're doing a good job.
01:34I'm hoping this might be a bit of a wake-up call, that if people are unhappy, well, put your hand up and have a go.
01:42The only prerequisites? Care for community and adherence to deadlines.
