लोकसभा में नेता प्रतिपक्ष और कांग्रेस सांसद राहुल गांधी ने जम्मू-कश्मीर श्रीनगर में पार्टी कार्यकर्ताओं को संबोधित करते हुए कहा, अलग अलग राज्यों में चुनाव होने वाले हैं। हमने सबसे पहले यह तय किया कि हमें जम्मू कश्मीर आना चाहिए, क्योंकि हम जम्मू और कश्मीर के लोगों को और हिंदुस्तान के हर राज्य के लोगों को संदेश देना चाहते हैं कि हमारे लिए जम्मू और कश्मीर के लोगों का प्रतिनिधित्व व राज्य का दर्जा सबसे जरूरी चीज है। हिंदुस्तान के इतिहास में आजादी के बाद बहुत बार केंद्र शासित प्रदेश को राज्य में बदला गया है लेकिन एक ही उदाहरण है जब राज्य का दर्जा छीनकर केंद्र शासित प्रदेश बनाया गया है।
