00:00It's a nice August morning in August 2024 and I'm heading towards Launceston, just passing
00:12the messenger outside of Theatre Royal where the number 12 bus is leaving Plymouth. It's
00:17a Plymouth City bus. We're just passing from Devon into Cornwall now going over the River
00:27Tamar over the Tamar Bridge. The Tamar Bridge started construction in July 1959 and it was
00:34opened on the 26th of April 1962. And over to the left you've got the Brunel Railway
00:42Bridge which was built in 1854.
01:27Well good morning people it's 11.52 and I've just got here from Plymouth. I'm in Launceston
01:51and I've come to the castle. I've passed it many times going down to Bude so I thought
01:56I'd come and take a look. It was built in 1008 I believe and let's go and have a look
02:03and follow the history.
02:56So the medieval castle was built in about 1008 and it's now part of English heritage.
03:10It's at the top of the hill in Launceston with tremendous panoramic views.
04:11Launceston Castle is located in the town of Launceston, Cornwall, England. It was probably
04:21built by Robert the Count of Morton after 1068 and initially comprised of earthenwork
04:28timber castle with a large moat in one corner. And here's part of the old moat with a sheer
04:35drop around it. It's maintained by English Heritage.
