00:00An e-bike went off the road in Binan, Laguna after it's battery was overcharged.

00:05How can an e-vehicle like this be safe from accidents?

00:09This is what Dano Tingcoco is talking about.

00:14E-bike, it's on fire!

00:16This subdivision of Binan, Laguna was lit up on a Friday morning.

00:21It went off the road until an e-bike was hit.

00:25According to investigators, the e-bike's overcharged battery set it on fire.

00:31It came from the battery and then it spread out to the entire e-bike.

00:37And even though no one was hurt, an SUV and a motorcycle were involved in the fire.

00:42The spread of the fire was fast.

00:46GMA Regional TV is trying to get a statement from the owner of the e-bike and other vehicles,

00:52but according to the BFP, they already have a conversation.

00:55According to the National Bicycle Organization,

00:57there can be many reasons for the battery to go off

01:01even though there is a battery management system that prevents overcharging.

01:05Usually it comes from exposure to heat.

01:11If you use the e-bike out and then get exposed to the noontime sun

01:16and then it gets too hot, that can cause some problems with the battery.

01:21There's also manufacturing defects.

01:24One cause could be maybe they used a different charger.

01:28Each battery or each e-bike has a different requirement.

01:45Don't leave it under the sun or hot places

01:49and of course, avoid getting wet

01:52because moisture getting in the electronics can also cause problems.

01:59The 15-15 rule can be followed.

02:02Rest for 15 minutes after using

02:05and rest for 15 minutes after charging before running.

02:09Don't leave it overnight.

02:11For example, if you charge it and then go to sleep,

02:13that usually causes a fire.

02:17There are also substandard batteries.

02:21We need proper materials to build the right battery.

02:28We need a BMS.

02:30The BMS is the chip, the brain of the battery.

02:33We also need battery insulators so the battery is safe and won't get stuck.

02:39The e-bike should also be inspected by the service center

02:42if the battery is damaged

02:43and a maintenance check should be done every two to three months.

02:47We also need to check the battery

02:49to see if it's in good condition,

02:50if there's leakage,

02:51if the battery is bloated.

02:53That's why it's better to have a maintenance check.

02:56Even the wires that need to be cut

02:59are usually the cause of short circuits.
