00:00Sonic Channel Comics
00:02Cream asks Sonic what his favorite course is, and he talks about the loop, corkscrew, and wall run.
00:10How does he think that's what she meant by course? It's weird that she even said course.
00:16She should have said area, because it's not like he runs around track fields.
00:21Aside from the novelty of him having a friend conversation with Cream, I'm bored already.
00:27I like that his passion for speed reminds me of how Sonic was in the earliest Archie comics.
00:33Galagher got the character more than you'd think.
00:36But he's never attacked when going down the slope from the corkscrew.
00:41So why did he say that?
00:43I'm actually glad there's stuff for me to nitpick here.
00:46I thought it'd be boring and pointless to review these because there would be no sloppy writing.
00:52Cream compares the experience to a water slide, and Sonic reveals that he's afraid of water, even over in Japan's interpretation of the character.
01:02I've read a game purist saying that the Sonic Channel comics have got to be canon because they're Sega comics from Japan.
01:10Even though there's no way to get them physically.
01:13So it's silly that game purists also say Sonic's not aquaphobic.
01:18Let's see how many other times they prove they're not canon and make me wonder why they think only they're allowed to be different from the games.
01:25While any other adaptation doing it ruins it.
01:28Even if they define different from the games as they have something to offer the games don't.
01:34In the next story, Tails wonders if someone's been watching him because he magically knows about that.
01:41It makes as much sense as him being able to fly.
01:44His first line is stilted because he says, as if.
01:48King Boom Boo goes behind him, and it turns out he approached him to make him fix a broken hourglass that the ghosts care about for no explained reason.
01:58Explaining why they're obsessed with this thing would've made a story all by itself.
02:03As well as explaining why they even know Tails can fix things.
02:07It has to be that at least one of them died very recently and was aware of Tails' reputation.
02:14So it's interesting to see him help them.
02:16He confuses me by thinking that's the second time the ghosts.
02:21As if they made him help them before.
02:24The story ends with the ghosts being nice enough to give him presents as a thank you.
02:29But most of the presents look creepy.
02:32So this must just be a prank of theirs.
02:35I don't get why they'd punish him for helping them.
02:38You'd think it'd feel better for them if they punished Eggman.
02:42If they can get to anyone's house they want like there's no limit on how far they can go.
02:47Come to think of it, it'd make more sense for them to punish Knuckles.
02:51Since he fought them.
02:53In the next story, Knuckles bores me by recapping to me.
02:57He concludes that the Knuckles clan deserve to die for abusing power.
03:02Surprisingly with only one line that implies he wishes he weren't the last to kidnap.
03:07By destroying everything, he has to mean just the clan.
03:11So that's weird.
03:13A fruit falls on him and a band-aid appears on his head magically just because it's an anime comic.
03:19Which means injuries aren't as dangerous in this world.
03:23He destroys the tree.
03:25And his ancestors saw it for no logical reason.
03:29But at least it gives them some depth explaining that they value fruit-bearing trees.
03:34And I guess magic from them is why Knuckles knows he made a mistake.
03:39In the next story, Amy's fortune makes her expect someone at her house.
03:44So she decides to make cookies for him.
03:46She wonders if the oven's damaged explaining why there's a fire.
03:50How is the oven damaged?
03:52You can have the same oven in your house for decades.
03:58And it's still not going to damage itself to make it like this.
04:03Sonic instantly saves her with no explanation for why it happened to be in the area.
04:08And the joke is that because of this she forgets about the fire.
04:12In the next story, Eggman decides to talk to the audience about his robot.
04:17I guess the reason Robot has that text bubble is because he wants to say something.
04:22But it's holding back in case he doesn't mean them.
04:25How does he think his badniks get the job done if they've never killed his enemies?
04:30It's sad that Metal Sonic is the pinnacle of his creations because he never got the job done either.
04:36He just looks the coolest and has the best powers.
04:40Why is he bragging about robots that are long gone?
04:43He doesn't make E-Series robots anymore.
04:46I know this because he mentions the Eggpons.
04:50And all he can compliment about them is a confusing cost performance.
04:55How are they the cheapest if he has to make batteries for them?
04:58Animals are easy to come by and free.
05:01The only reason for him giving them up is collecting them from a place attracts Sonic's attention because somehow he always finds out.
05:09And because he's fast, it wouldn't matter if he did it from many places far away from each other.
05:15So he quickly put a stop to it.
05:17He would've won in Sonic 1 if he had focused on getting the Emeralds and not attracted Sonic's attention.
05:25And eventually Eggman says he made Orbot and Cubot to kill some time.
05:30It makes sense because he doesn't need them, which is evidenced by them only being a recent addition.
05:36In the next story, it's weird that Maria says Shadow's going to be born.
05:42It's just a metaphor.
05:44She decides to call him Shadow, and I like that Gerald's smart enough to realize that it sounds evil.
05:50It seems unlike him to talk so informally that he says guy, though.
05:54She says it's a good name because a shadow shows the way to the light.
05:59She must've just come up with this.
06:01But it's such a deep thing to come up with right away.
06:05I find it implausible that anyone would think Shadow is a good name for a good guy.
06:11And the rest of the comic wastes time until Shadow happens to drive towards the moon on a motorcycle he's faster than.
06:18It should be explained that he uses it when his legs are sore.
06:22It can't be seriously implying Shadow is remembering that, because he had his eyes closed at the time.
06:28In the next story, Rouge is looking for Class 5 info when Charmy buzzes, even though he never does that,
06:36and somehow crashes into her because he was somehow dumb enough to have his eyes closed.
06:41But that doesn't explain why someone with their eyes open crashed into someone.
06:46Rouge gets thanked for a job, only for the guy to realize he was handed his picture book.
06:51Somehow Rouge thinks of Charmy as just that kid, even though they both met each other twice in Generations and Heroes.
07:00In the next story, Omega's shooting robots.
07:04You'd think he'd have gotten bored of saying that after all of this time.
07:08Some child were grateful for it, and I like his response.
07:12Somehow one of the child thinks that a proud combat robot would want a flower necklace for his head.
07:18If they're smart enough to make flower necklaces, maybe they shouldn't be considered mere pets.
07:26He thinks there's a logical error in his thinking, so he's uncharacteristically appreciating this.
07:32Somehow Rouge is dumb enough to make fun of him, so he tries to shoot at her.
07:38The only way he would've missed would be if he aimed below her and he was just trying to scare her,
07:44despite saying he's eliminating her.
07:47He's either impossibly stupid and uncharacteristically evil, or not.
07:53I never appreciate when they have character-breaking humor by lazily making them too stupid.
07:59This is what Pontac and Graff was complaining about for in Generations.
08:03In the next story, it takes a lazy route because Big's wondering where Froggy is,
08:09even though he'd feel the weight of him on his head and he'd immediately want to find out what it's about.
08:15He sees his reflection in the water and somehow thinks he can find him by jumping into the lake.
08:21This is only funny if you still find Patrick Star funny.
08:25I find this a little amusing, but it's still impossible.
08:29Game peers love to whine about comic writers going with fandom misconceptions to actually appeal to most of their fans,
08:37so it'd be hypocritical if they weren't annoyed with this,
08:40because I can't remember a single time he was stupid in SA1.
08:45He even knew nobody would save him because no one knew he was somewhere.
08:50The only reason I think of him as stupid is because he is stupid in Sonic Chronicles,
08:56and that game dismisses non-canon anyways.
08:59And he's stupid in the reboot in SEC Online.
09:03In the next story, the narration says that Cream understands the child's feelings.
09:09I don't see what's impressive about that because I can't see if he has a facial expression that'd make it obvious,
09:15so I assume he does.
09:18And in the next panel we see his tears, so he probably did.
09:22Why give her credit for that?
09:24And since when does she hang out with multiple normal-looking baby Chao?
09:29It makes sense that she'd want to be in a Chao garden more than any other Sonic character.
09:34She finds out a doll got damaged for no reason.
09:38Like Chao are capable of that.
09:40Why does the doll look creepy?
09:42Who would sell a doll like that or give it to a Chao?
09:45She gets upset because they're upset and Vanilla appreciates her compassion.
09:49And it turns out she can fix dolls.
09:53In the next story, Vector wonders who ate his pudding instead of just assuming Charmy did it,
09:58showing that he wants to be careful and thorough.
10:01But then it turns out he looked in the wrong place for it and it was never missing.
10:06And then the story ends with him getting beaten up by his so-called friends.
10:11They shouldn't blame him for doubting Charmy.
10:15This is worse than how all of the canon writers portrayed them.
10:19Why doesn't the comic show him getting hurt?
10:22Hence somehow forgetting he put the pudding in the freezer is there to have a joke,
10:27but Slapstick would also be a joke.
10:30If you're not allowed to show it, you shouldn't be allowed to write it.
10:34If it's written so we'll find it satisfying because he got what he deserved,
10:39how are we supposed to find it satisfying if we can't see him?
10:43The next story has Espio try to see what life would be like if he was invisible all the time.
10:48It makes it more relatable.
10:50He respects the cranes watering the flowers and gets sprayed and forgives her.
10:55Amy tries to hit him because she psychically felt like there was something invisible there.
11:00Then why wouldn't she assume it was Espio?
11:03It's a world full of people with magical powers for no reason,
11:07and the games never proved she couldn't do this.
11:10If anything there's some weak evidence for it because in 06 she says,
11:14I feel it, Sonic was here.
11:17Espio stands on a high place and Tails' plane flies near it,
11:23and somehow he decided to fly that low risking flying into the pole for no reason.
11:29So Espio gets hit by something that was made for flying really high.
11:34This was a charming story, but most of it's hard to believe.
11:40If it weren't for that part it worked because it's comedy that feels in place for the series.
11:45In the next story Charmy reveals he's a prankster to his friends out of nowhere,
11:50which is certainly different from him being able to get guilted into giving something back to a thief.
11:56His friends don't show up so he tries to get the cake while not thinking to untie his arm so he's trapped.
12:03And why can't he just push the trap over to go under it?
12:07How did he even get this trap? He must have stolen it from Knuckles.
12:12In the next story Tails asks Silver to tell him a story about the future.
12:17This is relatable. Usually everyone treats him like he isn't from the future.
12:21Surprisingly he agrees to instead of refusing out of paranoia.
12:25And he knows he can safely tell him this because it's a story that has nothing to do with the heroes in Eggman.
12:31He tells him some boring stuff and Tails says he came to Pumpkin Hill to find something.
12:37A meteorite starts falling from the sky.
12:40Silver stops it and then he reaches his limit, even though that's not how it is in the games.
12:46He can hold something above him for as long as he wants.
12:50Can and yeah right.
12:52Tails catches them as the meteorite falls on the pumpkin and Silver is endearingly easily amused,
12:59which would have helped him in his future.
13:01In the next story Blaze refuses to light wood on fire for Marine because she's completely selfish apparently.
13:08I would expect the two gladly agree to it because she's a hero.
13:12Out of nowhere she's flattered on her looks when she uses fire and somehow it makes her annoyed
13:19when she wouldn't be used to being complimented on her powers when they're why she was always alone.
13:25Out of nowhere we see Amy saying she wants to see Blaze being cute while she's blushing for no reason
13:32and in the same pose as she'd be if she was thinking about Sonic.
13:35At first I overlooked this because Marine just called Blaze beautiful too.
13:40I figured it was done because she likes cute things because it's Japan.
13:44But it's not about being literally cute because Blaze was just called a beauty.
13:49So this has to be the moment where fans speculated she has a crush on Blaze in this comic.
13:55Which only makes sense to me because NCC Online revealed she was raising a kid with a girl in the future.
14:01One correction though, it doesn't mean she's being portrayed as a lesbian.
14:05It's more likely that she's fine.
14:07Because there's no proof she doesn't like Sonic too because she did in an earlier Sonic Channel comic.
14:14So it doesn't necessarily contradict her character.
14:17And I wouldn't just assume she doesn't like Sonic in this issue because that's a big part of her character.
14:23Thankfully Blaze gets flattered into using her fire powers.
14:28This is a lot nicer than Knuckles being mistreated into agreeing to play baseball.
14:33He should have been flattered into instead.
14:36How nice of her friends to go to the Soul Dimension just to visit her.
14:40You never see that in the comics so I didn't think of that.
14:43I guess I just assumed they'd be too busy.
14:46In the next story, Blaze wonders what Eggman Egg is doing here.
14:50There's a very boring recap like they expected the audience not to know about him.
14:55It looks cool when there's some yellow ring shaped light around him and he warps away.
15:00He goes up to Eggman when he's sleeping and scribbles all over him.
15:04We weren't given the impression he'd do something minor before.
15:08But it does make sense that he'd be petty when he was already petty enough to want to destroy the world or turn it into a card.
15:16He flies away with a jetpack and Cubot can't help but laugh
15:20as I'm wondering why they're letting Eggman Nega be used here and not in the other comics.
15:25I think especially picky people would still complain that they're not portraying him like the game's counterpart of him.
15:32But the game's never stated that he was above something minor like this.
15:36I think it would have felt better if it was the other way around.
15:41In the next story, Orbot looks up data about the robots before him
15:45because somehow he thinks he has to to avoid being reconstructed
15:50when they already serve their purpose fine.
15:52It would have been better not to have him say this.
15:55Then it could make sense because people like to look up their ancestors.
16:00After a boring recap, Orbot says he tried to look up unfortunate
16:05and somehow he brought up an article about Zeta that didn't have the word unfortunate.
16:10Why does Eggman even bother keeping files on robots he doesn't have anymore?
16:15His fate scared them into being especially nice to Eggman.
16:19Orbot should explain that he thinks if they went to work for Tails
16:23Eggman would send something to destroy them or capture them that'd find them no matter what.
16:28And Eggman's smart enough to be suspicious of the unexpected cake.
16:32The next story is about Sticks when she's supposed to be a Sonic Boom character.
16:37The scenario being referenced in Sonic Frontiers makes sense.
16:41They were perfectly willing to imagine that there was a games version of Sticks too
16:45and we just didn't get to see her.
16:47She says she hates the TV.
16:50So why is she alone in someone else's house?
16:53Or did someone just buy her a TV?
16:55Why does she say everyone when she's alone?
16:58And she accuses the commercial of trying to brainwash her.
17:01And ends up getting that exact thing to eat.
17:04It turns out she's in Tails' house and he's not wearing goggles.
17:09Why would Game Tails be friends with someone so crazy who hasn't proven her usefulness?
17:15He can make a ray gun so he doesn't need her boomerang.
17:19But it was still interesting to see her again.
17:22In the next story Jet starts splitting the treasure equally with his gang
17:26saying half even though there's three people here.
17:29And he acts completely out of character by giving Wave his share of the money.
17:34Even though one of his most defining moments is daydreaming about being rich.
17:39And Wave's out of character by saying she can't accept his share of the treasure.
17:44Despite being completely selfish and remorseless in the games as Tails can attest.
17:49Jet says he only wants the thrills of adventure and racing.
17:53And he can't order from a vending machine.
17:56So Wave gives him a coin.
17:58Oh, what was that about you're not allowed to depict money in Sonic?
18:03Because you can't be giving him gold.
18:05Or the vending machine wouldn't accept it.
18:08Looks like this isn't canon then.
18:10Because the Team Sonic Racing animation was going to depict Big's wallet and wasn't allowed to.
18:17So either Sega pays no attention to these comic books on their own website.
18:22Or the Team Sonic Racing video is more canon than them.
18:25Or maybe it's that you're not allowed to show money.
18:28It's a more recent thing.
18:30In the next story Jet praises Wave.
18:32And she says naturally.
18:34And he responds by saying Sonic's his equal.
18:37A confusing response because she didn't talk about Sonic.
18:40She says equals are just idiots.
18:42And somehow he doesn't take that as her calling him an idiot.
18:46Which is the only way it makes sense.
18:48She waits for him to leave before celebrating.
18:51And Storm proves he's dumber than Big the Cat by asking what she's doing for no reason when she's talking to herself.
18:58Which embarrasses her.
19:00The next story is boring because I've already seen Storm airboarding a lot.
19:04He gets upset because he didn't get to the free buffet in time.
19:08Why is it run by Omochao?
19:10Unemployment rates would be sky high if this was a world where people hired Omochao for free instead of normal people.
19:18Why does Omochao keep being used when they've known he was hated since he first appeared?
19:23Speaking of that.
19:25He gets a story to himself where all he does is annoy Sonic endlessly like it's a fan parody.
19:30Or Lego Dimensions.
19:32In the actual game Omochao didn't give you more advice.
19:36He just gave you advice and then left you alone until he found another one.
19:41No wonder there's multiple Omochao there.
19:44It makes even less sense that someone would make more than one.
19:47The story ends with Sonic telling a bunch of Omochao to shut up.
19:51Or maybe it's only one.
19:53And that's part of why I hate art that depicts stuff that isn't really there.
19:57It takes you out of it.
19:59What a waste.
20:01Why would they make a story about Omochao without explaining who made him and why?
20:06This is the laziest way to make a story about him.
20:09I'm sure it's been done too many times to be seen as funny.
20:13Why does he think Sonic has to be careful because of spicy food?
20:17The next story has a Dark Chao in a fight send another Chao flying without the impact being shown.
20:23And somehow the Dark Chao regrets it.
20:26But that immediately puts an end when Fruit falls and they all share it.
20:30If you're gonna forgo logic by having the evil Chao regret,
20:34it'd be better to have him climb up and get the fruit for him.
20:38How are a Hero, Dark, and Neutral Chao all in one place?
20:42There's only one tree.
20:44And it doesn't bury Hero or Dark Fruit.
20:47And no villain would go to a Chao Garden like this to pet Chao.
20:51In the next story,
20:53Tikal tells some Chao to play hide-and-seek with her.
20:56And as soon as I saw the water, I assumed it was Chaos.
21:00She didn't though and was surprised to learn it happened.
21:04If Tikal can be out and about like Chaos in Sonic Battle,
21:08why did she never show up again?
21:10Why didn't she go to Sonic's birthday?
21:13Speaking of not being canon,
21:15this doesn't seem like a way that canon Tikal would end.
21:19I picture her reading a book.
21:21And it's lucky that she became easily amused enough to play a kid's game
21:25when she was portrayed as mature enough to be against greed and war earlier.
21:30It's either she appreciates doing this or feels unfulfilled.
21:34So she could have changed and all that time.
21:37But playing little kids games isn't gonna stop you from feeling unfulfilled.
21:41In the next story,
21:43Cubot's being ignored by Metal Sonic while trying to make friends with him.
21:47Because he's only interested in Sonic.
21:49Highlighting how he's as one-dimensional and boring as a badnik.
21:53Cubot gets a terrible disguise as Sonic that wouldn't fool anyone.
21:57How did he think that was good enough?
21:59How did he have that the second he needed it?
22:02Metal Sonic uses his power against him
22:05even though he'd recognize his voice.
22:08This would only make sense if he was punishing him for reminding him of Sonic
22:11and acting like an annoying little brother.
22:14But he doesn't have free will anymore.
22:16Why would his programming allow him to attack one of Eggman's robots
22:19in something other than self-defense?
22:22Why does Eggman think they're getting along when Cubot's saying help me
22:26and Metal Sonic's boosting?
22:29If he's boosting,
22:31how's Cubot outrunning him by just floating?
22:34Cubot and Orbot weren't built to chase Sonic.
22:37So why would Eggman go through the extra effort of making them faster than Metal Sonic?
22:42It's almost like these comics aren't canon.
22:44I guess I can accept that he made them that way to account for his temper
22:48so he wouldn't have to rebuild them.
22:50The only reason Cubot would bother trying to make friends with him
22:53is if he was only recently built.
22:56The next comic bores me with the Sonic characters being aware
22:59that they're in a comic in a long-running franchise somehow.
23:02Eggman almost kills them with missiles,
23:05and I have to wonder how he missed when they didn't know he was there.
23:08I guess he missed on purpose because if he hit just one of them with a missile,
23:12they'd instantly die instead of getting scared of him first.
23:16Cream's dialogue is lame.
23:19The story ends without the impact being shown when Cheese is thrown at the Eggmobile.
23:24And it says see you soon.
23:27Is that really all there is?
23:29While these comics never made me laugh,
23:31there is the occasional story that's unusually charming for a Sonic story
23:35because they're going for humor.
23:37And sometimes it's the right kind of humor instead of idiot balls.
23:41They don't take themselves too seriously,
23:43so there's no plot point I hate that takes forever to get resolved
23:46to have an arc just for the sake of it.
23:49So the fact that they're episodic is one of the best things about them.
23:53These comics have sloppy writing at times,
23:56but they're a better experience than IDW, Sonic Boom, Sonic X,
24:00and videos like Sonic Mania Adventures
24:03because they don't generate boredom all the time like TV episodes do,
24:07and they do stuff that's new, unlike Mania Adventures.
24:11The pacing's generally good because it's one page for every issue.
24:15I hate that the coloring is so lazy,
24:18but I think we wouldn't get them at all otherwise
24:21because then it'd be more work to make them.
24:24And at that point, why not sell them?
