Doctor Clayton - Gotta Find My Baby (1941)

  • el mes pasado
This was recorded in Chicago around the time Jazz Gillum and Big Bill Broonzy and Lonnie Johnson were making Bluebird discs.

Joe Clayton (or Peter Joe Cleighton) is the musician's real name. He is the vocalist here. He was born in 1905 in Americus, Sumter County, Georgia.

He died on January 7, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois.

Blind John Davis is on piano.

November 11, 1941

Alfred Elkins provides imitation bass, which is not a proper bass instrument. So what is it? Nobody is sure. Could it be a washtub bass or vocal imitation of a bass or maybe a jug? Or is Elkins plucking the low E string of the guitar in upstrokes?.
