Former Liverpool and Everton stars are backing professional and amateur golfers in Southport who are taking part in a ‘Million Yard Drive’ challenge on Saturday August 24.

The golf challenge has been organised in order to raise money for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital which cared for the injured survivors of the tragic incident in the town on July 29.

The event at Southport Golf Academy, at Leisure Lakes, Mere Brow, is in memory of the three children who lost their lives and the eight other children and two adults who were injured in the knife attack at a Taylor Swift-themed dance event.

00:00Hi, my name is Sam Quine, Digital Reporter for the Lancashire Post and former Liverpool
00:05and Everton stars are backing professional and amateur golfers in Southport who are taking
00:11part in a Million Yard Drive Challenge tomorrow. The golf challenge has been organised in order
00:18to raise funds for Alder Hey Children's Hospital which cared for the injured survivors of the
00:23tragic incident in the town on July 29th. The event at Southport Golf Academy at Leisure Lakes
00:32Mere Brow is in memory of the three children who lost their lives and the eight other children and
00:38two adults who were injured in the knife attack at a Taylor Swift themed dance event. Ex-Everton
00:45captain Alan Stubbs and former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler via video messages have encouraged
00:52people to raise as much money as possible during the fundraising golf day.
00:59Hello everyone Robbie Fowler here just to give you a quick message on what Southport Golf Academy
01:03are going to do. So on Saturday the 24th of August they are going to try to drive the ball for 1
01:09million yards on that particular day. Now the money raised is going for a very very worthy
01:16charity. Now we all know what happened in Southport not so long ago and I know it is very very close
01:21to a lot of people's hearts so if you can help them raise a lot of money and all that money is
01:26going to Alder Hey Hospital who as always do a fantastic job but the job they've done in helping
01:33the victims and certainly the families of that atrocity was remarkable. So if you can help them
01:40raise all that money as I said it's going to a fantastic cause so good luck everyone.
01:45Like everyone throughout the whole country I was shocked and felt helpless at the attack on the
01:49girls and staff in Southport last month. I'm pleased I can add my own yards to the efforts
01:54of Southport Golf Academy working with one of the families to raise money
01:57for Alder Hey Hospital by being part of the million yard drive.
