00:00oh my goodness solar eclipse facts for kids video strap in hope you got a seat
00:07belt because you're gonna learn some wild some fun some crazy facts about one
00:13of the most fascinating cosmic events that can happen a solar eclipse it's so
00:20cool when the earth moon and Sun align and something special happens a solar
00:27eclipse you're in the right place if you're excited then that's cool cuz I'm
00:32excited and let's talk about solar eclipses what they are and why they are
00:36so cool let's begin by talking about the Sun you know when we're talking about a
00:44solar eclipse we're talking about the Sun the word solar means related to or
00:50about the Sun now our Sun is special but it's certainly not alone in fact our
00:57Sun is just one of 200 billion stars in our galaxy do you remember the name of
01:04our galaxy yeah the Milky Way galaxy mmm gets me hungry you may know this
01:18already but the Sun is in the center of our solar system and the earth along
01:24with the other planets orbit around the Sun that means they go around and around
01:29and around the Sun isn't that cool they just go round and around it's really
01:35awesome the Sun is in the center and the planets just all they go around that's
01:39called orbiting and you see these lines these circle lines that's showing the
01:43pathway of these planets going around the Sun I wonder if the Sun ever gets
01:51annoyed with that it's just like hey leave me alone you planets have been
01:55circling around me over and over and over again and I'm sick of it! Get out of the way! I'm sick of seeing you go around me! I'm the center of the solar system but please leave me alone well the
02:14earth has something orbiting around it just like the planets orbit around the
02:19Sun the moon orbits around the earth and the moon has been going around and
02:26around the earth just like the planets go around and around the Sun all right
02:33so what is a solar eclipse a solar eclipse is when the earth moon and Sun
02:43align and the light rays from the Sun are blocked because the moon is in the
02:49way and the shadow of the moon hits the earth making it look dark and obscuring
02:55that means blocking darkening the Sun how cool is that they're aligned it's
03:02really awesome and it's super rare because it just doesn't happen that
03:06often now there are two types of solar eclipses there's a partial eclipse
03:13that's when part of the Sun is blocked by the moon and then there's a total
03:19eclipse where the entire Sun is blocked the total eclipse is the rarest of all
03:27but a partial eclipse is really special too if you ever get to see a solar
03:35eclipse even if it's a partial eclipse you're gonna want to because it's so
03:39cool it's so cool just make sure you protect your eyes when you enjoy a solar
03:46eclipse make sure you're wearing special glasses that protect them from the Sun
03:50because it's never a good idea to look directly at the Sun the only time it's
03:55safe to take off your solar glasses is when an adult tells you you can when it
04:01reaches totality which that's when it's completely blocked that's if you're
04:06seeing a total eclipse if it's a partial eclipse you need to keep your
04:11solar glasses on the entire time now here's something really fascinating
04:19about a solar eclipse the Sun provides the earth with light and heat it's
04:25basically a burning ball of fire in the center of our solar system which means
04:32during a total eclipse it becomes dark outside and the air gets colder because
04:38remember the moon is blocking the sunlight and is even blocking some of
04:44that heat oh my goodness that's so cool why is that so cool I don't know oh it's
04:52neat though isn't it neat oh my goodness dark outside the air gets colder now
04:58this might sound silly but it's absolutely true they found that animals
05:03get confused during a total eclipse which makes sense because all of a
05:09sudden hey you know what happened who turned the lights down who turned the
05:14lights what's going on
