A terrified crowd were told by organisers to keep calm as there is a knifeman on the loose - after three people were stabbed to death in a horrific 'terror attack' at a diversity festival in Germany.
A woman and two men were killed and eight others injured, five of them seriously, in the 'brutal and senseless' attack in the western German city of Solingen last night, police have said.
A shocking video shows one of the festival organisers, Philipp Müller, appearing on stage to ask people to 'go calmly; please keep your eyes open, because unfortunately the perpetrator hasn't been caught.'
The attacker, who is currently on the run, randomly stabbed festivalgoers partying in the Fronhof central square where live bands where playing at around 9.45pm.
Police have said they have very little information on the suspect so far but believe the stabbings were carried out by a lone attacker.
'None of us knows why' the attack took place, said Herbert Reul, who is the interior minister of North Rhine-Westphalia state.
'I can't say anything about the motive now' and it isn't clear who the assailant was, he said, but the attacker left the scene 'relatively quickly.'
