00:00I've always, I've always loved theater songs and this next one is from Show Boat
00:12which after 66 years is it's on its way back to Broadway, no plug intended.
00:22Oh listen sister, I love my Mr. Maine
00:33and I can't tell you why.
00:38There is no reason why I should love that Maine.
00:52It must be something that the angels have planned.
01:08Fish gotta swim, birds gotta fly.
01:19I gotta love one man till I die.
01:28Can't help loving but a man of mine.
01:38Tell me he's lazy, oh tell me he's slow.
01:52Tell me I'm crazy, maybe I know.
02:00Can't help loving but a man of mine.
02:15When he goes away, that's a rainy day.
02:25But when he comes back, that day is fine.
02:34The sun will shine.
02:42He can come home as late as can be.
02:53Home without him ain't no home to me.
03:02Can't help loving but a man of mine.
03:24Fun tonight, huh?
03:38I needed a night to get used to this.
03:46I first heard that song when Ava Gardner sang it in the movie.
03:53I had no idea that it came from a Broadway show
03:57because I went to the movies long before I ever went to the theater.
04:01Who knew from the theater?
04:03I'd go to the Loewy's Kings in Brooklyn, right?
04:08Every Saturday afternoon because they had the greatest Melarolls.
04:13Now for those of you who don't know,
04:15a Melaroll was this little ice cream log wrapped in paper that sat in this cone.
04:19Anyway, I'll never forget when I was 13.
04:25Some things improve with age.
04:29I'm misguided, I can't believe it.
04:33This girl I knew, Barbara Sankal, who knew I wanted to be an actress,
04:36she told me about this actor, Marlon Brando,
04:39who was in a movie called Guys and Dolls,
04:41which I also didn't know was from a Broadway show.
04:44So I went to see it.
04:46Everybody came in the middle in those days, remember?
04:49It was a life-altering experience,
04:52seeing Marlon Brando for the first time.
04:56It was the only movie I ever sat through twice,
04:58just to get to see him again and to have another Melaroll.
05:03I'll never forget this song.
