00:02A medical expert is a professional in the field of medicine who has experience and knowledge specialized in specific areas of medical practice and who is assigned to provide expert opinions on legal, judicial or administrative matters.

00:17These professionals are usually called to carry out impartial and objective medical assessments, issue expert reports and testify in legal cases, such as lawsuits for personal injuries, work accidents, health insurance, or unemployment, among others.

00:33Their role is essential in the legal and administrative system to help determine the veracity of medical claims, assess the degree of disability, establish responsibilities and contribute to the fair resolution of medical and legal disputes.

00:48Medical experts have a solid academic background, clinical experience and knowledge of the relevant laws and regulations in their field of specialization.

00:58The consequences that a legal claim has on the personal life and professional practice of the affected doctors have a repercussion in their life.

02:14Hospitals and clinical services managers, in turn, try to determine the clinical circumstances and maneuvers that entail greater risk to the safety of patients.

02:24Few studies have been concerned with specifying the consequences that this increase in legal pressure has on personal life and the vision of the profession of the affected doctors.

02:34In addition, these few existing studies focus mainly on the direct economic costs that imply the increase in defensive medicine and the increase in the cost of insurance policies of professional civil responsibility.
