00:00weeks ago. Wish him well on his pro debut. Now it's time for KTM keys to the moto, James.
00:05Well, this championship, it might be over. Hayden Deegan's your champion. But for all
00:09these other guys, it ain't over yet. We just mentioned Hayden Deegan winning the playoffs
00:13championship, the super motocross championship. Levi, you're in that same position. All these
00:18guys are. It ain't over. Today's another start to it. Let's get it.
00:23That's right. There's something to build toward with the playoffs just two weeks away. And Levi
00:28Kitson sitting on a hot streak. Three of the last four races and two in a row. He has been the
00:33winner. Then you get Roxton in the mix now. Adams making his pro debut, fifth fastest in qualifying
00:40and a pretty tricky brand new start. This is exciting.
00:44That's how excited we are. Yeah, it is. Here we go. Revs are up. Gates down.
00:49And we heard there's dry dirt on the outside. Jordan Smith tried to make a run for it. He's
00:59up to third. He might even get to the lead now. It worked from the outside gate. Jordan Smith
01:05of the 31. Tom Field gets him back. Great start by Jordan being that far on the outside. Looks
01:09like Chance Hymas is in third place. Hayden Deegan got pinched off from the start, so he has to come
01:14through the pack. But it worked out for number 31. Shout out to our man J.T. On that one. He
01:20scouted that. He said, watch Smith and Sivacci on the outside. It might work. It did. And one
01:25of the Kawasaki riders is up there. Is that master pool? Yeah, it looks like master pool.
01:30Drew Adams is in fifth behind him. So great start for the rookie. And Roxton is there. I think that
01:36was the one worry that Roxton had. You could hear the interview before the race. Would he get the
01:40start dialed on the 250? He's in contention. Look at this battle right now. Like I said,
01:46it ain't over, and these guys are showing it. Great to see Kenny up there, and Drew Adams
01:50is right behind him. So great start. We've been seeing the last few weeks, Chance Hymas has been
01:55pretty froggy on these opening laps. So hopefully he can keep that thing up, and Tom Field can do
02:00the same. So it is Field, Hymas, Smith, master pool, Roxton, kitchen is sixth. Is that Hayden?
02:10Hayden is way back now, 35th. So is that what we call what happened there? Yes, that was Deegan
02:16crashing, crossing up the lines. I think Drew Adams is looking to make moves on his new teammate,
02:22master pool. Tom Field looks to get away. Yeah, Tom's been in this position a couple times this
02:28year and has some accidents, throwing some race win, possibly, but making mistakes early in the
02:33moto. So looks like he's feeling pretty good. Same thing with Chance Hymas. So hopefully those guys
02:37can keep it up. But, yeah, I'm interested to see what happened to our number one, Hayden Deegan.
02:42Actually, it was not Adams making moves. It was kitchen. Kitchen is the green machine back there
02:47who's made a bunch of passes, and I believe he's up to fourth. So we watch Hymas on the 48th.
02:54I think we have the aftermath of Deegan's crash. Oh, yeah. Yeah, it looks like he probably,
03:00from the position, he probably just went in there and watched their front end out,
03:04probably trying not to follow guys. They put a little bit of water on the track. As you can see,
03:07they had some track maintenance right there. That's what happens when you don't get a good
03:11start. He took a chance. It didn't work out. Dude, Levi Kitchen is motoring. He just got
03:16around master pool. He's put Roxon behind him on the 47th, riding the momentum. But Roxon's
03:22going right with him. Yeah. Let's see if Kenny can hang with his training partner at this moment.
03:28And it was drew Adams. Just Levi's coming up. He passed all those guys. Yeah. You got to think the
03:33confidence of the last few weekends outside of Washougal. This has been your guy who's winning
03:37everything. A number 47 on a monster energy pro, certain Kawasaki. Oh, Masterpool looking to come
03:42back now on kitchen around the outside, and he makes the move. Oh, man, that was a tough leave.
03:48I was trying to pull a tear off, and he was losing a front end. I just went around the outside of
03:53him. So hey, Roxon now challenging kitchen and makes the pass. So kitchen passes to they get
04:00him back. And by the way, Roxon and kitchen have been riding together during the week. They got
04:04some friendly fire right now. Talking some trash is the battle is the kitchen open or close. We
04:10can't figure it out. But yeah, I wonder how much better Levi's feeling. You got to remember last
04:15weekend as his teammate rookie teammates trying to get up on the inside. Last weekend, he was
04:20sick, and he was still able to win that second moto. So I'm sure he's feeling better, but he
04:24didn't like those two passes after making all those passes. Yeah, and Adams at the back of the
04:29shot, as you mentioned, is right with him. The young rider out of Tennessee. Well, so far, so
04:34good for Roxon. He's right here in the fight. Yeah, Kenny looks pretty good, and I think this
04:40is going to help him as he lose the rear end. I was close right there. It's going to be tricky.
04:44These first couple laps. J. T. Yeah, the track is so slippery right now. They've added water,
04:49which will help throughout the day. But these early laps right there on the jump faces are so
04:53tricky, and they're also trying to push. But I was also just thinking about the battle. Look at this.
04:57You've got Ken Roxon dropping down to the class for the first time in 11 years. You've got Levi
05:01Kitchen, who is in his 2 50 prime, winning three out of the four last races. And then you've got
05:0516 year old Drew Adams probably looks up to both of these guys wondering how we got here. So it's
05:11a very unique situation. I can't wait to watch it unfold. Yeah, what story lines of plot lines we
05:16have crossing Roxon and Kitchen battling again, just like they do back home. They ride at the
05:22same track in Florida sandbox. Jordan Smith, though, hanging tough all this battling,
05:27and he's still there in front of him in the 31. Yes, it's first time this year. We've seen Jordan
05:32Smith up front, um, in the in the first moto. So he's always had speed. At one point, he was
05:37leading that Supercross championship up against Levi. Um, and then so for him and on top of that,
05:43you also got a two time world champion out front and Tom VL. So the talent field is there. That's
05:49how deep this 2 50 class is. And Jordan started this motocross campaign, saying the goal was a
05:54podium. He's never had an overall podium in motocross. Maybe today in the final day of the
05:59year is the time to get that done. And look, it's actually closed back up a bit on Hymus.
06:04Yeah, I was looking up. It looked like Tom made a mistake and allowed chance to come up. And so,
06:09yeah, things are gonna tighten up. You know this thing ain't gonna stay this way for this moto
06:13Hymus on the inside. James showing a wheel to be out. Yeah, that outside Tom knew he had
06:20all the better momentum that inside with that rut. He knew he wasn't gonna get past. But yeah,
06:26chance of starting to put the pressure on Tom. Tom just needs to calm down. It's a long race,
06:31so he's got plenty of time to do it. One thing today, the lap times a little bit longer,
06:35so these guys aren't gonna have as many laps that they're probably used to. So
06:40this race will be over pretty quickly. So same amount of time on the clock,
06:44but it'll actually feel shorter. It'll feel a lot shorter for these guys, and
06:48one lap could make a huge difference. And depending on where you hit it, this race could be
06:52anywhere from 33 to 37 minutes. So yeah, I think these guys are gonna be a lot more
06:58racy today because of that lap time being a little bit longer. It's gonna feel shorter for them.
07:03Here's what's interesting about the L. He has led seven motos this year. He only has two
07:10moto wins. And as you alluded to, he's crashed while leading several times. That's part of the
07:15reason the number reads that way. Not what you really expect from one of the more experienced
07:20riders in this field. Send it back down to J. T. Well, remember, for Tommy L, he was the East
07:26Coast 250 Monster Supercross champion, and everybody expected him to carry that momentum
07:30into this pro motocross championship. He's a two time MX two world champion, and this should be
07:36the series where he shines. But I think the most important thing for Tom is to get momentum back,
07:41get back on track, find those winning ways, because in two weeks time, this series will
07:46shift into SMX and he'll have another opportunity to win a second championship in 2024. So I'm sure
07:52he understands that this was a little bit of an underwhelming summer for him. The opportunity
07:57ahead is paramount. Yeah, I completely agree. And I think with Tom, what he also needs to realize
08:03he's been riding really good, even better than he did last year. And I would say he's probably
08:07riding better than he did even in Supercross when he won that title. Just unfortunately,
08:11as you just mentioned, Jason, those those stats about him leading motos but only having two wins
08:16is the mistakes that cost them, not necessarily his speed and his riding.
08:21Yes, last week, Tom saying he's pretty pissed off about the fact that he doesn't have an overall win,
08:28at least not yet. And this is his opportunity to deliver one. He's stabilized that gap with
08:34him. It's just a little bit. Yeah, things are starting to bunch up. The man on the move is
08:39the number twenty nine Tom Masterpool. So he's closing in on Jordan Smith. And then RJ Hampshire
08:46sighting. Yeah, we got RJ sighting coming up behind the rookie drew Adams. Yeah, so he's in
08:52the fight to R. J. Hampshire, that white rock star Husqvarna, and he's looking to make the move
08:57on Adams. See if he can make it stick around this tree turn. Yeah, this thing funnels in back to one
09:04line. But Drew makes a mistake. Let's see if RJ can get to the inside of him. Not quite. Hey,
09:09let's send it to Katie with more R. J. Battling right now. He said this is kind of like about
09:14a bit of practice for him. He's getting practice on the weekends, getting these motos in. He wants
09:18to get into race mode. He said he does know he has the speed in him. He's just not sure how long
09:23he can maintain that speed through the moto. So keep an eye on RJ Hampshire here with this battle,
09:28especially as it might be wearing him out after that injury. Well, the way RJ rides,
09:32he's definitely in shape because he is very loose on a motorcycle. I think for him,
09:37like you mentioned, he does have the speed. He looks like R. J. So clearly he's back to
09:42as far as the injury was filling 100%. But he definitely has to get that race pace going
09:46to be continue being like R. J. Is. Yeah, and he told me due to the rain in Florida this week,
09:51he was only able to ride once, so he really needs seat time. Hasn't been able to get it
09:57now. Another challenger that rider DeFrancisco moving up. Yeah, and he made the past R. J.
10:03Went outside. I don't think you realize that rider D was that close and he was able to get around.
10:07Nice move by him. Talk to rider D this morning. It's actually the fourth time he's raced this
10:12track once at combine that last two years and now, so it's actually the track he's most familiar with
10:18as a pro national showing right now on the 34. Yeah, I actually think for a lot of these rookies
10:23in here, they had an opportunity to race this, like you said, on the moto combine or last year
10:28they came in and raced it in the motocross series. So a lot of these guys are this is the second time
10:34being familiar with this racetrack as we're watching top master pool trying to get up
10:38on the back of Jordan Smith. Yeah, that will be for third. Been a while since we've seen master
10:42pool in the podium mix. Had three motos in a row where he had a great start and then crashed
10:49and then had to basically come from last. So now he's up there. Look at Ken Rockson.
10:54If you know Ken Rockson ain't going nowhere. I'm sure he's having fun. I mean, it's a great
10:59opportunity to be coming out here and racing against these kids. The first time he's probably
11:03ever raced most of these guys, but also no pressure having a good time as he tried to go
11:08up the inside of tight. Oh, Kenny, he set that up way in advance and able to make the move
11:15experience, baby. Yeah, great move by Kenny. He knew once he got to the inside top,
11:21I didn't have no choice. And that was a nice move. You see he's got slipping going off the
11:26face of that job. Yeah, that almost Kenny on lap one. Now, Ty, try to come back on him.
11:31So who's your whole this battle for fourth behind Smith? Now, the one thing with Kenny,
11:39he's gonna have to figure out as his moto riding the 2 50. As you can see, these guys are pretty
11:44wide open from the start, so it's a lot different in the 4 50. So he's got to pay attention to how
11:50physical how he is. J. T. Yeah, just watching Kenny's wine choice here. You could tell he's
11:55been racing a 4 50 for a very long time because his natural instinct is to float to the inside
12:00line, and that doesn't always work on a 2 50. Now he's been making changes as we go. He used
12:04that outside leading up to the finish line. You see him swing outside here to carry momentum,
12:08but I could just see that instinct show through sometimes. And it was behind time. Masterful.
12:13He wants to use that inside line that would typically be reminiscent of a 4 50 class maneuver.
12:18So it's a learning experience, right? Some of it will come back naturally, but some of it he's
12:22gonna be fighting 11 years of 4 50 racing as well. Yeah, that's a great observation, J. T.
12:28And yeah, it's like anything you got to work on your golf swing and you go out on the range
12:33or the course and you just shake it off the first box so you could do a lot of range work. But when
12:37you get out there on that track is a lot different. Kenny's experience in that. But
12:41good to see Jordan Smith up here like now that he's he's following these guys. Seems like they
12:46chance broke away from just a little bit, but still, he's only four seconds back
12:50of the lead, and I'm sure this is a good confidence builder for
12:53a guy like Jordan because he does have the speed. Yep. One of the veterans for this monster
12:59Yamaha star racing team. But they've got a new rider in the wings race. The scouting
13:04moto combine and one yesterday. Cole Davies and Katie has caught up with Cole. Yeah, he went to
13:09one. And as he's watching Jordan Smith here, we're talking about how well Jordan seems to be doing.
13:14How important is it having guys like Jordan and vegan in the team that you get a chance to look
13:19up to? Yeah, it's definitely important being able to, you know, race with them at the practice
13:24track and all that. And, um, yeah, Jordan's doing real well right now. He got off to a good start,
13:29and, uh, yeah, he's looking good. Talk about being on this team, the camaraderie, the chemistry and
13:33really maybe how these guys are moving the needle for you. Yeah, I mean, it's definitely cool being
13:40on this team. You know, even got the championship and, uh, yeah, it's good being on the championship
13:47team, I guess. And, um, yeah, I'm just stoked to be on the team. I'd say that's one very happy man,
13:53especially winning the combine. Look at it kind of maybe the future guys what he and what kind
13:57of battles he might be having here sooner than later. Yeah, absolutely. And for him, as you
14:02mentioned, he's riding with these guys, the guy who won the championship during the week. So
14:07it's a great learning experience, and it's good to build a watch that if you're a teammate, J.T.
14:13Yeah, and literally every week is trial by fire, right? He's going to be the youngest one. He's
14:17going to be the least experienced one all the time, and that just results in a lot of frustration
14:22because you're probably going to be the slowest one every single day throughout the week. But
14:26guess what? When you show up to an event like the combine and you're not racing against Hayden
14:31Deegan or Jordan Smith or Jackson Bennett, you're going to be the fastest guy. So in the end,
14:37it's the best thing for you, but it's a lot of hard days during the week being up against that
14:41day in and day out. And speaking of Deegan, we've got him now. He's getting close to the
14:48point scoring positions. Actually, he's now into it. He's 17th, catching Dylan Schwartz and his
14:53teammate Max Hansen. Yeah, Hayden's got a good pace. Actually, the last lap, he was the fastest
14:58rider on the racetrack with a 2.15, and our leader, Tom Deow, was a 2.16. So Hayden Deegan,
15:04even coming up to the pack, he is your fastest rider, but he's got all these guys
15:09that he's probably going to slow him down. But I'm sure he wants to be up front,
15:13but I'm sure he's having a good time. Probably happy that that championship's wrapped up now.
15:18Certainly no pressure. There's Schwartz. And yellow being challenged by Anstey right now.
15:24Anstey last week hit his head in a first-turn crash. Didn't have a concussion, but they said
15:29they wanted him to wait an hour and a half after the first motor to make sure he didn't have any
15:32effects. And then, well, he said, well, an hour and a half, that means that moto's going to start
15:37without me. But he's not really in the title fight. He started this championship halfway
15:41through, so that didn't bother him too much. He was able to ride this week, so Anstey's back.
15:46Sounds like my dad back in the day when I crashed. Just put some water, drink some water,
15:51you'll be all right. A little bit of time. Yeah, he felt fine, he said, but couldn't race
15:56the second moto. Doctors want to be cautious. They see a rider go down and hit his head,
16:00but he's got some competition now. Another Yamaha rider in that fight as well.
16:08Pointed out the Deegan lap time of that 215. Oh, it's Romano. That's the one that's in the
16:12mix with them. Halfway through this moto, reminder that monster energy is available now at Kroger.
16:20They're going to sell out, though, with all these monster riders. They were storming the gates.
16:24Their information. Yeah, we don't know who's a nice pass by Hayden. I don't know if Nick went
16:30the wrong way, but Hayden's still coming, J.T. One of the benefits of blocking the championship
16:36up at Bunch Creek is he doesn't have to worry about how this moto goes. It's a really difficult
16:41thing. You see him fall over there to ruin my point, but again, if this had been championship
16:46mode and he would still be worried about points, the urgency level would be cranked up to an 11.
16:51He would be so stressed out thinking about every single point he's going to lose. Now,
16:55it's not something you would ever be able to notice, maybe even on a heart rate level,
16:58but his stress level is so much lower. That's okay. If I get 11,
17:02no big deal. If I get 14, that's okay, too. The championship is already secure.
17:16Next couple of weeks. Someone's confidence starting to grow. The 47 of Kitchin beginning
17:22to rally back toward his buddy, Roxon, and Masterpole right between them. So Kitchin
17:27passed those two. They passed the back, pulled away, and now Kitchin is starting to rally.
17:32Yeah, we saw that first moto last weekend, the same thing. He was coming up and then had that
17:37mid-moto stretch where it looked like he was almost going to pull off the racetrack and then
17:42ended up almost being the fastest guy catching those guys and ended up with the third place. So,
17:46yeah, I don't know if there's something going on still with that sickness or maybe he's just
17:50waiting, but Levi, Kitchin's back open, baby. He said if Roxon beats him, he'll never live it
17:57down. So he's got to get going. Roxon just up the road. Smith still third. Hymus five seconds
18:03behind Vial now. Vial getting it done. Yeah, Tom has clicked into another gear.
18:08It seems like once he got past those first couple of laps, settled in, he just rode like he's been
18:13riding all year, which has been pretty fast. So good to see that. And I'm surprised because
18:18Chance Hymus has been the quickest one, one of the quickest riders on the track any given lap
18:23the last few weekends, but Tom's running away from him. And there's Kitchin closing the gap
18:31and Masterful keeping Roxon honest. Where is Smith? Smith, I believe, might be ahead of Hymus
18:39now. There's Hymus. Yeah, Jordan Smith up to second. You got to believe what Jordan has.
18:47He hasn't been up front, but it's good confidence booster because when you're having some issues
18:52and being in the mid pack like Jordan, once you're up here, you don't know how fast you are
18:56because you haven't been up in this pace, and you start just believing that you're a tenth place guy.
19:00So as Jordan kept staying up here and he was still in third, running third, I'm sure he got more
19:05confidence, more confidence to be able to come up and pass Chance because now he's like, I can see
19:11it. I believe it. And these guys aren't pulling away as Ty goes up. Yeah, makes the move on Roxon.
19:18Masterful now to fourth. I think it was a bad lap. A 2 19 for Hymus. He must have made a mistake
19:24or maybe tipped over, and that's what allowed Smith here in the 31 to overhaul him. I don't know
19:30what it is about this track. I haven't put my finger on it, but it does seem like guys are
19:34they make a mistake. They lose a lot of time on this racetrack. As we saw, Levi Levi was right
19:40on those guys. The last lap right here, and he's dropped back so might be a mistake. And the same
19:45thing seems like it's happening with these guys. Jordan made a couple right there.
19:52Veteran out of Belmont, North Carolina. But he's lived in that
19:56Florida Georgia state line area for a long, long time.
20:00The mill staff training facility road there growing up and then right up the road where
20:04he rides now with star racing in their facility. Ricky Carmichael's old track.
20:09Look at Masterpool in green, putting pressure on Hymus, and they got a lap rider in between.
20:15This is one of the things that I feel like Chance has to work on, and he will as he continues racing.
20:20Once things start going the wrong way, he gets passed. Just what Levi was able to do last
20:25weekend. Sometimes you get passed, and it seems like it's over. You got to be able to fight back,
20:30and Levi did that last weekend. Chance is going to have to do it because we just saw
20:34the number 31 get around him, and now Ty Masterpool, and we're watching Chase Sexton
20:40in the bottom getting ready for his championship. Katie?
20:44Yeah, as we watch Chase Sexton warming up here, I just talked to his team. They didn't do much
20:48with that bike between qualifying and now. It changed that rear tire from a paddle to
20:52some hard pack, but they said he's mellow. He's in his head. He's mellow. He's cool.
20:56In fact, his mechanic, Kyle, said, it's me. I'm the one who's a little hyped up right now.
21:02So you know, obviously, the nerves all around it. It matches and meets so many people underneath
21:06this KTM umbrella. I did continue to talk to the team, and they said, don't change anything.
21:10Aaron Plessinger, he said, I told Chase, don't change your sleep, don't change your diet,
21:14don't change anything. Head into this weekend, just get the job done.
21:18Yeah, it's easy for us riders because we're really in control of our own destiny out there.
21:22Chase, he knows his motorcycle is good, so he can go out there and do it. His mechanic now,
21:26he doesn't want to be the reason. He needs to help his rider be able to go out there and do it. So
21:30that's probably why he's a little bit more nervous than Chase is. Chase knows he can do his job well.
21:35And remember, the 450s will race at the top of the next hour. Sexton might be able to wrap up
21:40the title in the first moto, depending on the result. Battling Hunter Lawrence. Master pole
21:45still rolling now, James. Catching second place Jordan Smith. Yeah, I mean, all these guys got
21:51a good pace. They're just not as good as Tom Vial is out front. But also, that last lap,
21:56Ty Masterpole was the fastest guy on the track. Then it was Tom Vial and then Hayden Deegan. So
22:01looks like Ty's on the move. I don't know if you'll be able to catch that number 16, but
22:05you might be able to get Jordan if he continues this pace.
22:14But listen to them here. The big drop down.
22:21And remember, a motocross with a two moto format, you get second or even third in that first moto.
22:26You're in play for the overall win. So that's why these guys are fighting so hard.
22:29Send it back to J.T. Yeah, and you see these guys are battling. A little bit of a yo-yo
22:33Masterpole drop back. I move back forward. Now, for Chance Hymus in that situation where he loses
22:38two spots in one lap, he really loses his flow and his rhythm that James speaks so eloquently
22:43about. And what I would try to do in that situation is just do what the rider in front of me is doing
22:48and take the thought out of the equation for a little bit. And I would just follow their line.
22:52Whatever they're doing seems to be working. So instead of trying to figure out the race on your
22:56own, I would just walk into the guy in front of me, follow them around the racetrack until I got
23:00my breathing, my composure, my rhythm back, and then maybe try to charge back forward.
23:04Yeah, absolutely, J.T. And we saw Chance was able to do that at Unadilla a few weeks ago.
23:10You know, those guys, he was able to come past them. And then there was a point of that race
23:14in the beginning where the gap stabilized and it looked like Levi was starting to close in,
23:18but then he regrouped and was able to get away and then obviously to crash. So
23:22Chance knows how to do it. Maybe he's feeling it, maybe arm pump. He's doing a good job at
23:27holding Ken off. But, yeah, you don't want to let these mistakes, these guys continue to pass
23:32him as Ty trying to go up the inside of Jordan. He tried to go from outside the inside there,
23:36or did the bike just pop out? I think he made a mistake. It turned that mistake into the line. So
23:43it's a way to brush it off. Yeah, I meant to do that. Now the split section,
23:48and that's where the old first turn was, and they're going to go into the woods now.
23:53And as J.T. Said, this is an homage to the cross country series. That's really what put this track
23:59on the map. They've had a race in the woods for about 30 years now. Then ten years ago built the
24:04motocross track, and we've had the national here. That area a little bit of a blend. Hold on to that,
24:10Jordan Smith. Yeah, before that, Jordan had a nice line using that little hip jump on the inside,
24:16jumping across those ruts, made it a lot smoother. So that was a good line,
24:19then he got cross rutted. Oh, and that inside did not work for master pool. So Jordan pulling
24:27away just for the moment. Let's send it back to Katie. Guys, it's kind of like we're seeing a
24:31little bit of a different rider within Jordan Smith. He's had one fifth place finish this season
24:35in the overalls. But beyond that, he's finished between 17th and 16th throughout the entire
24:41season. So, Stu, as you're kind of watching him here, what is he doing a little bit different?
24:46Does it have anything to do with the team and Deegan's successes, or is it just something
24:50that Jordan is bringing to the table a little later in the game? I think Jordan's probably
24:54riding the way he has when he's back in 15th, 17th. He just got a better start. And as I was
25:01saying, these guys, even just getting the top 15, if you're riding 15th in this class, you're riding
25:07really good. And Jordan is figuring that out. And, you know, he's always had the pace. So for
25:11him being up front, I think each lap that's went by, and those guys weren't pulling away from him,
25:16gave him a lot more confidence, which is allowing him to ride even better. So, yeah, I think just
25:21really to start and now believe in that you've blown up here is helping Jordan out the most.
25:27Well, it's been a long time coming. Jordan Smith's last moto podium was 2018 at Washougal,
25:33and that was actually the last season that he's gotten the full pro moto cross schedule in
25:38without getting hurt. So Smith doing good work late in the year. Another battle on our hands.
25:44Oh, kitchen is slipped by Roxton. Yeah, as I was mentioning earlier in the show,
25:49Ken needed to be careful because, you know, one, riding is 250, and how these guys ride,
25:54you're always on the power. You got to be a lot more aggressive, which is a lot more energy.
25:58I was wondering when he'd start feeling that at the end of the motos because it is such a
26:02difference on these 250 bikes compared to riding a 450, which you have the luxury of being able to
26:07go inside, as J.T. Mentioned, and be able to gas it. This bike, you have to keep that power up.
26:12You have to shift, and sometimes you might be starting to feel that 250 and how these guys
26:17ride this motorcycle. The Thor running order you saw there. Some of the riders in this field,
26:22Deegan has made his way up to 11th. Smith wearing the Thor gear is second, as mentioned.
26:28Anstey, 13th. Romano, 17th. I believe Dax Bennett not racing today. Not sure what happened there.
26:36He did ride qualifying practice. Kitchen is back again. Yeah, I was wondering. Oh,
26:43it's that master pull. Yeah, come on, Ty. He actually made a mistake the last lap there right
26:48behind Jordan Smith where you said he slid out on that inside. It caught him out again.
26:55Cost him a podium spot, and now R.J. Hampshire going by.
27:00So for the moment, at least, Hyman is back up to third, but here comes Kitchen.
27:05Yeah, I wonder what is Levi looking back or somebody or just what goes up the inside,
27:11probably hits a hard patch and just loses the front end. Yeah, there it is.
27:15Yeah, just goes in there and loses that front end. There's a hard base, and that's that new
27:19section they put in. Looks like there's a lot of sawdust on there, and he probably couldn't see it.
27:24Tough one, but the guy ain't having no problems right now is the guy that's been having some
27:28issues all in the first moto. Tom Beall looks great today. Yeah, we've barely seen him,
27:34and the field has barely seen him. He took off, and if he's not happy about not having an overall,
27:40this is taking that hanger out on the racetrack. Send it down to Katie. We'll talk more 450s.
27:45I think we have Hunter Lawrence's dad, Darren. Katie? Yeah, a guy who seems very cool, calm,
27:50and collected for a day where there's some Hail Marys being thrown around.
27:54Scale of one to ten, what are the chances that we can get the job done today for Hunter?
27:58One. And if Chase messes it up, he needs to smack him off the back of the head, that's for sure.
28:05He should take care of it, that's for sure today. How could you describe Hunter? You have seen him
28:10the ebbs, the flows, the highs, the lows of his entire life, really. How would you kind of describe
28:15him, especially as he's searching for that overall win? Hunter's a little bit more of a
28:20percentage play type guy. If it's a high risk and only a low gain, well, he won't bother with it,
28:26whereas Jed will be like, oh, I just want to do that because it's fun. So Hunter's more of an
28:29analytical, pulls it apart, goes, you know what, I'm not going to risk the biscuit for that amount
28:33of effort or risk. So yeah, he's more calculated. And being calculated, very important on the bike
28:39that he's also learning, trying to understand where are some of those changes happening within
28:42the bike. What are some of the changes? Just trying to get the bike into a good base point. So
28:47on Butts Creek, like the bike was pretty good, but we might've been a little bit closed on our
28:51clickers. So you want to get a setting change to get the clickers back into that sweet spot.
28:55So then you have more of a central base that you have room to move. So that's sometimes you're
29:00trying to plan for the future so that at different tracks where you go, you go, oh yeah, it's okay,
29:04we've got room to move to go soft. We've got room to move to go harder, you know? So it's just
29:08the base of the bike is such a better bike, but you're still trying to find it,
29:12that zero percentage to get it in the window for the boys, you know?
29:15Thank you for your time. Best of luck to you and the whole family out there today. And of course,
29:19just finding the edge here under Honda's tent.
29:21Yeah. And just listening to Darren right there, that's why his boys are so good because even
29:27it would be easy if your hunter just feel like, oh, this championship's done. But
29:31just listening to him, he's talking like there's always improvement that can be made. Like we,
29:36yeah, the championship might be over. It's going to be a long shot, but that doesn't mean you can't
29:41come out here with a win and get better. And that's what you're seeing. Love listening to that
29:45guy talk. Yeah. And I talked to Darren and mom, Emma, today, and I said, are there any championship
29:52shirts on the Honda truck just in case Hunter pulls us off? And they said, no, no, but we are
29:56here to celebrate. Second in the championship as a rookie is still worth celebrating. And it's almost
30:02maybe the development even quicker than they had even hoped for. It's really impressive what he's
30:06done. I know it's all pales in comparison to what Jet did perfect season last year, but take that out.
30:12And this is very good. Yeah, that's the problem. You don't have to look too far to have like a
30:16reference of greatness in his brother, which I'm sure he's watching right now. Oh, he is. Actually,
30:23I got to interview Jet earlier this morning. We'll play that during our halftime show after
30:26that first 450 Moto. We'll check in with Jet Lawrence and his status as we head toward the
30:31S. M. X. Playoff. So be sure to watch after two fifty and four fifty Moto one. Back to J. T. We
30:37go. Well, for Darren Lawrence, they're always thinking ahead, right? Yes. Today we're going
30:41to wrap up this pro motocross championship. But again, in two weeks time, we start a new
30:46championship for the S. M. X. Playoffs. Jet will be back. Jet will be on the twenty twenty five
30:50for the first time. Hunter will be racing an S. M. X. Track on the twenty twenty five for the first
30:54time. They're thinking about how can we be our best self? How can we improve? And that's a
30:59constant theme with that team every week. They're trying to get better. It shows. Yeah,
31:04that's just analytical. Everything I asked Darren about today, he pointed out some small thing in
31:09the motorcycle, kind of like he did to Katie about here's where we can get better. Here's
31:12where we lost it. Here's where we gained it. Never really think they're there. Always can
31:17improve as we watch Deegan. He is up to eleven. But James, if you notice, Ken Rocks dropping
31:23positions quickly. Now nine. Yeah, you can just start to see, you know, RJ. Yeah, RJ is coming up
31:30and looks like Ty's right behind him. So Ty was able to get up. But yeah, watching Ken in the
31:35lap times, I think he's just starting to figure out that the difference between 450 and 250.
31:40Not surprising. Well, remember, rocks and also coming back off injury as this battle rages
31:44between Hymas and Hampshire. How about RJ? Almost not missing a beat. You would not think this dude
31:50is coming back from a couple months off for the wrist injury he wants to get. He's already top
31:55five, maybe even podium position. Yeah, this is more like RJ. And if your chance time is out of
32:00all the guys, maybe Hayden. But RJ is not the one you want to have behind you in the motors. And
32:06there's a number twenty nine back there, too. That's kind of the same way as RJ. Looks like
32:10he's going to try to go up the inside. You see him lose the rear end. That was actually a smart
32:15move by RJ backing out because he knew Hymas was going to come across just the way to angle
32:19that jump. So heads up move by him. RJ backed out of it. Old dog learning some new tricks. Yeah,
32:26RJ knows he's got the playoffs coming up. So he's trying to build for that. But I actually like what
32:32I see from chance. He's still like fighting as we were talking. So here's how Hymas lost a spot
32:37to kitchen and the top left goes outside. This is where they would just work. Chance goes outside.
32:46Levi goes up the inside, almost where RJ just got around them.
32:52Yeah, that was the same exact spot. RJ wasn't quite as far ahead. Now they're in the thick
32:57of lap traffic. Hymas, Hampshire, Masterpool. And they've also right underneath Francisco
33:03hanging in there with that group. Somebody's bike is smoking right in the middle of the track.
33:07Somebody's hot. It might be RJ because he's on fire right now. He's coming up to the pack.
33:13Yeah, and if chance isn't careful, he might think one of these lap riders,
33:19the bike behind him, and it might be that 29, too. So Tom might have a sneaky pass.
33:25So let's reset it. It's Vial, Smith, kitchen. Then Hampshire. Oh, and kitchen has now caught
33:31Smith as you see. Yeah, and Levi was the only one in 217. So he was your fastest rider on the
33:38racetrack, and just like he was able to do last week, he regrouped, and now he's coming up and
33:43might be able to get a second place, which is just as good as winning in these first motos.
33:48Still getting ready for 450 moto one. Hunter Lawrence, Katie.
33:52Yeah, as Hunter is getting ready, suited up, of course, back out on the track,
33:55Levi kitchen and Jordan Smith are going at it. And of course, as we all know,
33:58Levi kitchen has said, hey, it's better late than never for this momentum that he's having
34:02at the tail end of the season. He also mentioned to me that motocross, you have to ride a little
34:06more on the edge, which he's actually learning how to do and be more comfortable doing. So
34:12that's a note for Levi kitchen as you watch him throughout the day and as he's progressed
34:15throughout the season. That is something he's been thinking about, riding on the edge.
34:19Yeah, nice pass. You talk about riding on the edge. That was a game of chicken right there.
34:23Levi was like, who's going to back it out? And Jordan wanted to stay in, but he knew that inside
34:27was the best line. And then insult to injury. He made a mistake by losing the rear end and lost a
34:32lot of time. But nice pass. Strong move by Levi. I can't believe kitchen's up to second place.
34:39I'm at one point. Where is he? 78. He had caught up. He dropped back. He has repassed all these
34:44riders except for VL. He was never near VL. But nice rally for the 47. And his wins, by the way,
34:52have come via the second moto. That's how he's gotten all three of the overalls he's had this
34:58year. So second in moto one. If he can do it again in moto two, he could end the year with
35:03another win. Yeah. And if it wasn't for his mechanic telling him he's in second, he might
35:07be thinking he's leading because Tom Bial is gone. So, J.T. Think about Levi kitchen. Just ask
35:14any player in any sport what the most important thing is when you're headed to a playoff scenario
35:19and its momentum. You think about Levi kitchen. He's won three out of four races. He was so close
35:24to winning that first championship this year. But he has caught fire at the right time. And
35:29there's nothing more dangerous than a rider that gets hot at the right time.
35:33Yeah, absolutely. I mean, kitchen really is cooking at this point. And the way he's been
35:38able to do it has been pretty cool to watch. I mean, he had the one race at washugal which we
35:44were all kind of shocked at what happened. But the way he was able to fight that second moto,
35:49really kind of thinking his way in and playing last weekend, been on a whole chance.
35:54Hyman's off and then Tom Bial and then having the dominant races one in the mud and then beating
35:59Hayden at Millville. So he's been able to win in a bunch of different ways. And just like Supercross,
36:04he's better than everyone. So that's a good feeling to have, especially coming here.
36:09Started playoffs in a couple of weeks. And also kitchen has been pretty darn good.
36:14Not every moto has been starts, but he's had a lot of good ones. And it's going to be a big
36:19advantage if he can pull those starts in the playoffs like he was doing, especially a monster
36:23energy Supercross. Yeah. And I think the thing that's going to help Levi that it's been a change
36:28this year, he's been consistent on both motos last year. He was able to win one moto and then
36:32get a 13. So even going into these playoffs with the formats and the points being consistent is
36:38going to play out well. But one guy that's been consistent today is this Tom Bial. I'm sure this
36:44is what he thought was going to happen at the opening race. The opener at the start of this
36:49motocross series, being able to do this, what we all kind of expected, but some falls, but not
36:54today. Tom Bial's out front, gone. Yeah. Dominant run for Bial. I think he's backed it down on the
37:00stretch run, looking for his third moto win of the year. That's probably not as many as he would
37:05have liked. But as they say, better late than never. And this was a dominant run. Tom Bial wins
37:13moto one at Ironman. Yeah, Levi comes across second. A nice ride by Jordan Smith. Another
37:22ride. RJ finished in fourth place. And yeah, that's Jordan Smith's first moto podium in six
37:29years. Here's Ken Rockson. I do have to wonder is probably we didn't ask him enough about it.
37:34He came back at Unadilla from a broken leg. And two weeks later, maybe not quite 100% yet.
37:41First half of the moto was good. Yeah, I mean, I think Kenny probably knew the endurance is going
37:46to be a part and for sure for him. I know it would be harder coming into this class,
37:50the 250 class and even the 450. So still good ride.
