00:00Luxury holidays are the stuff of dreams.
00:06I've never seen anything like this in my life.
00:08Oh, wow.
00:09It's like a temple.
00:10But most of us make do.
00:12Oh, my gosh.
00:13With budget breaks.
00:15It's like a garden shed.
00:17That's not even two bottles of champagne.
00:19So what happens when the tables are turned?
00:21There's one bed.
00:23And two people with loads of money...
00:26Is this it?
00:28Do you want to rough it with those strapped for cash?
00:31Thanks, but no thanks.
00:33From no-frills campsites...
00:35To jaw-dropping hotels.
00:37It just feels like you're sleeping on a cloud.
00:40What happens when people from either side of the wealth divide swap destinations...
00:45This does not feel anything like a holiday.
00:47Activities...
00:49Wow, that is all to my bucket list, that is.
00:52And budget.
00:54That's more than I've ever had in the bank.
00:57It's pretty expensive, isn't it?
00:59Who's booking in for a life-changing experience?
01:01It's given me such a boost.
01:03Unbelievable.
01:04Yeah, I was not expecting this.
01:06A memory of a lifetime.
01:08And who we'll check out early?
01:10Disaster.
01:11I would rate it as a disaster.
01:18Ely, near Cambridge.
01:20Home to big spender Maisie.
01:22And her ten-year-old daughter, Gracie May.
01:25This is so cute, I love it.
01:27They enjoy the finer things in life.
01:29Slay!
01:32I do definitely have an addiction to shopping for expensive shoes.
01:36And handbags, Christian Louboutins, Louis Vuitton.
01:40How much were these?
01:41About 1,500, I think.
01:43That's quite cheap for shoes.
01:47While Gracie thinks nothing of a four-figure price tag...
01:50Mum Maisie knows money doesn't grow on trees.
01:54I've worked very hard to get to where I am today.
01:57And she's now a director for a big American tech company,
02:00earning a six-figure salary.
02:02I've had four promotions in the last four years.
02:06Maisie's partner, Liam, has lived with the family for three years.
02:10He also earns six figures working in telecoms.
02:14So there's plenty of cash to splash on holidays.
02:17We spend £25,000 to £30,000 per year on holidays.
02:21We normally go to really hot places because we don't like the cold.
02:26Money might buy fancy holidays,
02:28but it's not buying quality time for this blended family.
02:32Hi, Liam.
02:33Hello.
02:34Liam has to work away most of the week,
02:37so time spent with Gracie is limited.
02:40It was hard for her, for a man coming into our life,
02:43because it was me and her for a long time.
02:46I would love to see that bond grow
02:48and become even more deeper between the two of them.
02:52Maisie hopes the low-budget break will teach her daughter the value of money...
02:56Good doggies!
02:58..and bring the family together without the trappings of luxury.
03:03I really want Gracie to see how lucky she is
03:08and all the luxurious holidays she gets to go on.
03:13I just got dragged into this.
03:15LAUGHTER
03:19200 miles away in the Rhondda Valley in South Wales,
03:23at the opposite end of the wealth divide,
03:25are father and son warehouse workers Chris and Daniel.
03:29Busy?
03:30Ah, chocolate block, chocolate block.
03:32Chip off the old block, as they say.
03:34But, er, it looks nothing like me, mine, but...
03:37Ah, look better.
03:39As well as being family and co-workers, they're best friends.
03:43Ah!
03:44Fetch, boy!
03:46Both live with their wives just two miles apart.
03:49Daniel's always popping in for a quick cup of rum and chat.
03:52I didn't touch you.
03:54Taking over here.
03:55I didn't touch you.
03:56Taking over.
03:57He's a good laugh.
03:58He can come up with a good laugh now and again.
04:00Only now and then.
04:01Now and again.
04:02Ah, cheers.
04:03Money is tight for this pair,
04:05with each of them earning around £400 a week.
04:08Financially, it is a struggle.
04:11I do worry about paying bills.
04:14And the last few years have been especially tough for Daniel.
04:182017, I was in a car crash.
04:22Fractured a spine in two places.
04:25It was three months before Daniel was able to return to work.
04:28I weren't in a good place a while back.
04:31You know, I was struggling to get through.
04:33We were just about paying rent.
04:35You know, we were just about scraping a barrel.
04:37While he recovered, Dad Chris was by his side.
04:40My father was coming over every day, like, what do you need?
04:43He was a rock, basically.
04:45There's a very good bond between the two of us,
04:47and I wouldn't change that for the world.
04:51Getaways for this pair are budget breaks in Wales.
04:55Our usual holidays are camping holidays.
04:57Just in the middle of nowhere, a field with a toilet.
05:00And they spend just £150.
05:03We look at our budget and think, right, let's spread this out over the week.
05:06And if we haven't got it, we haven't got it.
05:08We just make our own fun in the park.
05:10A five-star holiday in the sun is the stuff of dreams.
05:14You always see these holidays and you think, oh, I'd love to do that.
05:17Swimming with turtles and stuff.
05:19Maybe not, then.
05:21Instead of swimming with turtles, you're swimming with ducks in your bar.
05:25This trip is a chance for Daniel to share a once-in-a-lifetime experience
05:30with a dad he owes so much to.
05:33I'm lucky to be alive. You never know when your day's going to come.
05:36The amount I've put him through with his accident,
05:39I think it's nice for him to have a break,
05:41to actually get away and see something new together.
05:46The moment everyone's been waiting for has arrived.
05:50You ready for this?
05:51Both families have been given envelopes.
05:53I'm excited. I'm nervous. I'm nervous.
05:57Which will reveal their holiday destinations.
06:00Everything's all in our envelope now.
06:02Bring her on.
06:07A boat!
06:09Where is it? Hartlepool? A boat in Hartlepool Harbour.
06:13And it's not a luxury yacht.
06:16It's going to be cold and wet.
06:20I hope you don't get seasick.
06:26Hartlepool is an old fishing port on the blustery north-east coast of England.
06:31Now a classic British seaside resort,
06:34the family will be staying in the marina.
06:37In close quarters aboard the Tumbleweed, a tiny eight-metre boat.
06:41No all-inclusive here.
06:43It'll be all hands on deck for the next six days.
06:47I don't like boats. I know, me neither.
06:50And for Chris and Daniel…
06:52Luxury holiday to Miami Beach.
06:54Miami? Wow. Amazing.
06:57That's stunning.
06:59Miami. Famed for its beautiful beaches and a wild party scene,
07:03this is the playground of the rich and famous.
07:06Chris and Daniel will be living the high life,
07:09with an all-expenses-paid stay in a deluxe hotel right on the Miami beachfront.
07:16That sounds brilliant. Sounds fantastic.
07:18Good times ahead.
07:21It's day one of the holiday swap,
07:24It's day one of the holiday swap,
07:26and in Cambridgeshire, anticipation is building.
07:30We've never ever been up north.
07:32I don't think we ever have.
07:34I don't think I want to either.
07:36I think it's cold up north.
07:38Going on a boat, it's going to be wet, it's going to be cold.
07:42What if the boat sinks?
07:45Come on, happiness.
07:49Chris and Daniel are jetting off on their holiday in style.
07:53Cheers.
07:54Living the high life in premium seats at a cost of £3,000.
08:01Two and nine hours.
08:02We'll never get there.
08:05They're staying in the heart of Miami's vibrant Art Deco district,
08:09at the luxurious Lowe's Beach Hotel.
08:12It's a long way from a wet tent in Wales.
08:15Mr Edwards, come with me, we've got a spec for you.
08:18Thank you very much.
08:19Thank you very much.
08:20As soon as he opened that door, I was just looking around thinking,
08:23wow, this is not a camp day.
08:26Their deluxe ocean front rooms cost £1,300 a night.
08:31Look how blue-ass he is.
08:33Wow, feel the heat.
08:35Absolutely stunning.
08:37Look at the size of the pool.
08:39Looks really inviting, doesn't it?
08:41Absolutely fantastic.
08:44Maisie, Gracie and Liam have arrived at Hartlepool Marina
08:49to report for duty.
08:52I just want to go home.
08:53Stop.
08:55Look at the weather.
08:56It's lovely.
08:57That's why I don't come to England for a holiday.
09:00He does not want to be here at all.
09:03He is going to really, really struggle.
09:07The family's home for the week is a sailboat,
09:10The family's home for the week is a sailboat,
09:12not much bigger than their car.
09:16Aw, it's quite cute.
09:18It's small.
09:19Being round boats is a new experience for Gracie.
09:22It's very unstable.
09:24I'll be careful on this, this is slippery.
09:29Liam!
09:30It looks really unsafe.
09:33I've never really been on a boat before.
09:35It was just really overwhelming.
09:39Hold Liam's hand.
09:40Be careful.
09:41It was rocking and really scared me,
09:44that's why I started crying.
09:46Have a look in first.
09:48It's going to be our home for the week.
09:50It looks really dirty.
09:53And it's really wobbly.
09:56I tried to keep it positive and happy,
09:59but inside my stomach was clenching.
10:02Oh, God.
10:04Oh, it's a bit wobbly, isn't it?
10:06Yeah.
10:07It's like, oh my gosh, I'm going on a boat.
10:10I don't know how I'm going to do this.
10:14Is that the kitchen?
10:16Shut up.
10:18What is that?
10:21There's one bed!
10:23No, there's not.
10:24No, there's not.
10:25There's one bed!
10:27Being this close together,
10:29I think there's going to be
10:32world war three.
10:33Why is the bed next to the toilet?
10:36I feel sick.
10:37I want to go home.
10:39Now you get an open-plan kitchen diner,
10:42it's an open-planned bedroom toilet.
10:45Not my cup of tea, personally,
10:47but it's whatever floats your boat, really.
10:51It doesn't float mine.
10:54Coming up, Chris and Daniel live life in the fast lane.
10:58Look out, everyone, the old man's loosing a Mustang.
11:02And for Maisie, Liam and Gracie...
11:04It's how fast it goes.
11:06It's tough times on the boat.
11:08Some holiday.
11:18A family of big spenders.
11:20How much were these?
11:21About 1,500.
11:22This is so cute, I love it.
11:24And a strapped-for-cash father and son.
11:27Our usual holidays are camping holidays.
11:29Just in the middle of nowhere, a field with a toilet.
11:31Are swapping holidays for a week.
11:34To the sides of the pool.
11:35To see if money really does buy happiness.
11:38There's one bed!
11:44For Maisie, Liam and Gracie,
11:46the reality of staying on an eight-metre boat
11:49is starting to sink in.
11:51We can always top to tail,
11:53Gracie in the middle, me and Liam on the outside.
11:56To check everything's ship's shape...
11:58Is there anybody on board?
12:00Owner Jane pops over from her own 20-metre floating home next door.
12:05This is where we live if you need me, Gracie.
12:08This is where you come.
12:09She's very big, isn't she?
12:10Can we swap?
12:11Can we swap?
12:16It's a rocky start.
12:18So to whom do they owe the honour?
12:20Both families are about to find out
12:22whose holidays they've inherited.
12:25They look friendly, don't they?
12:26Yeah, they look very friendly.
12:28Well tanned, innit?
12:29Both of them well tanned.
12:30I wish I could pull off a shirt like that, mate.
12:33They're, like, camping.
12:34I wonder what they'd look like with a tan.
12:37I hope they're smiling like that at the end of it.
12:39But Maisie, Gracie and Liam are in for some worst news.
12:43They'll have to survive on Chris and Daniel's holiday budget.
12:46150.
12:48That's not a lot.
12:49Spend that in an hour.
12:51Easily.
12:52We've got a whole week.
12:54I can see the toys definitely getting thrown out of the pram.
12:57Without a doubt.
13:02It's day two of the holiday swap,
13:04and in sunny Miami,
13:06Chris and Daniel are kicking off in style
13:08with a breakfast fit for kings.
13:11Would you like to see how we send champagne from the table?
13:14Oh, why not?
13:15Why not?
13:17The tropical fruit plate.
13:18Oh, lovely.
13:20It takes a change from a bowl of Coco Pops to a black one.
13:24A champagne breakfast here can cost £200.
13:29Oh, thank you very much.
13:31A bit of pepper on top.
13:32Half a week's wages for these guys.
13:35I really think I could get used to this.
13:37Cheers.
13:41Around 4,000 miles away in Hartlepool,
13:45it's been a rough old night on board.
13:48Morning, campers!
13:52How do you sleep?
13:54With you farting, not worrying.
14:01To give both families a place to share their private thought,
14:04diary cams have been set up.
14:06It's really starting to sink in
14:09that we're going to be staying in this very small space for a week.
14:13There's not a lot of room at all.
14:18They're not only swapping holiday accommodation,
14:21they're also swapping activities for the week.
14:24I'll give you the honours.
14:26Ooh, thank you.
14:30Oh, no!
14:32What?
14:34Sailing.
14:36Muscle Beach.
14:37Oh, flexing on Muscle Beach.
14:39I get tired pulling my shorts up.
14:43It's a donkey ride.
14:46Everglades and alligators.
14:48So no skinny dipping on that one, right?
14:50No, no, no.
14:51Miami makeover.
14:52They can't do much in my ear.
14:54I'm not going to a museum, that's boring.
14:56How's that boring?
14:58Museums are boring.
15:00Museums are...
15:01They're boring.
15:02They're not.
15:05The first activity for Chris and Daniel
15:08is a VIP introduction to Miami living.
15:11What's that?
15:15It is...
15:16It's not hot.
15:18No, no, no, no.
15:20A chance to get behind the wheel of a Mustang convertible
15:23costing £60,000.
15:25We just could not believe when the car pulled up.
15:28We thought it was a prank.
15:30Two valley boys driving that?
15:32No chance.
15:33My jaw dropped.
15:34It's one of the cars I've always wanted to drive.
15:38Honestly, I felt like crying at that point.
15:41Right, thank you very much.
15:45Oh!
15:48Oh!
15:54There's no better way to soak up Miami's stunning Art Deco architecture
15:59than by hitting the open road.
16:01It was amazing.
16:03It felt like it was in Grapeford or Vice City, for real.
16:06Look out, everyone, the Aucklanders are loosing a Mustang!
16:10That skylight is stunning.
16:14That warehouse in Wales is a long way back in the rear-view mirror.
16:23And just to drive with the roof down, feeling that power,
16:27it was one of the best experiences of my life.
16:30I thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed it.
16:35Oh!
16:37Oh!
16:39I can't get over it.
16:46In Hartlepool, there's none of the usual cocktails by the pool
16:50for Liam, Maisie and Gracie.
16:52Instead, a trip to buy their groceries.
16:55Get a basket, yeah? Yeah, grab a basket.
16:57With a tight budget of £150 for the week,
17:01they've decided to spend just £40 on food,
17:04barely enough for one main course on their usual luxury breaks.
17:08Where's the steak?
17:09I don't think we'll be able to afford steak, Liam.
17:11If we get a pack of bacon, we can have that every day for breakfast.
17:14Pop that in there, right, so that should last us the week, I think.
17:17How many's in there?
17:19A week? That's one sandwich.
17:21Oh, my God!
17:23Gracie's not used to scrimping on a shop.
17:26Guys, move out of the way, I'm going to get some sweets.
17:29We're not getting sweets on the budget.
17:31So, usually when we go shopping, I say,
17:33go off and pick what you want, put it in the trolley,
17:36and I don't really look at what she picks.
17:38Can I get one of these or these? It's 99p.
17:40No. She doesn't take no very well.
17:43Can I get one of these? No.
17:45I can't get anything, can I?
17:47Maybe I should try and restrict what she buys a bit more.
17:51As long as it doesn't go over 40, we're OK.
17:54£29.56, please.
17:56We should come here more often, Gracie, this is cheap.
18:00In Florida, Chris and Daniel are embracing
18:04an iconic part of Miami culture,
18:07rollerblading on the beachfront boardwalk.
18:10But you have to look the part,
18:12so they're heading for a full Miami makeover costing £300.
18:16Red, we bronze.
18:20Step one is a full-body spray tan.
18:25Go ahead and bend over a little bit. There you go.
18:27It was the most awkward moment I've ever had.
18:31All right.
18:33I just spun round like a roast chicken, to be honest.
18:37You want a six-pack?
18:40Just started spraying me like she was spraying a fence.
18:43Creosote, I think it was.
18:46Step two of the makeover, top-to-toe Lycra.
18:49Yes, that's my colour.
18:51And step three, some wheels.
18:57Living the Miami lifestyle.
18:59That's what he looks like.
19:00Macho man, oh, yeah.
19:02Fair and plonk, guys.
19:04Come on, let's give it a go.
19:08Buffed, bronzed and looking good.
19:11Rollerblading is quite an adventure for 56-year-old Chris.
19:15Ooh, that feels weird.
19:18It felt quite intimidating starting off.
19:21When you get to a certain age, you start losing your balance.
19:24I'm up. I'm seeing you.
19:27I'll leave the breeze, push me.
19:29But then again, I thought, well, we're here for a laugh.
19:32Let's have a go.
19:36Still up, still up.
19:40I'm not afraid to make a fool of myself.
19:43But to see my father jump into it as well, it was a sight.
19:48It was honestly like watching Bambi on ice.
19:51His legs were going everywhere, his arms were everywhere.
19:54But you could see he'd come out of his comfort zone and he was thoroughly enjoying it.
19:58I'm a Bambi girl.
20:06Soft landing.
20:08Compared to our normal holidays, we'd usually sit outside the tent,
20:15a couple of cans of barbecue.
20:17Whereas this is a once-in-a-lifetime thing.
20:20It was absolutely hysterical.
20:24Have a nice cold pint.
20:25Nice cold pint.
20:26Yeah.
20:27Me too.
20:30It's day three of the holiday swap and it's been a stormy night in Hartlepool.
20:38Some holiday.
20:42I can't be human today now, honestly.
20:46The mood on board is building towards a mutiny.
20:50When I woke up this morning, I was concerned that we'd come detached from the harbour.
20:54I had to look out the window and make sure we could still see the boats.
20:58I was hoping not to wake up.
21:01That's how I feel right now.
21:04The weather's really brought me down.
21:07I can't sit in here all day.
21:09OK.
21:10I can't sit in here.
21:11Better than going out there.
21:14I'm just like, why am I here?
21:17I don't understand why I did this holiday.
21:20Morning, yachters.
21:22Anybody on board?
21:24Good morning, Gracie.
21:26Morning.
21:27You going out on tumbleweed?
21:29OK.
21:31This is Norman, your skipper.
21:33Norman's going to be taking you.
21:35They'll be taking a spin around Hartlepool's historic seafront.
21:39According to maritime law, all sailors must wear life jackets and pirate costumes.
21:47What?
21:49I'm just glad to get out of the cabin.
21:52Can't be a pirate without a life patch.
21:58It's not quite the sunset cruise they might book on their normal trips.
22:02But it's been included as part of the holiday.
22:05So all aboard for a sailing lesson with Captain Norm.
22:13OK.
22:14This is called coming about.
22:17We're coming about.
22:22Now we're sailing.
22:23Now we're sailing.
22:29This is how fast it goes.
22:31Conquering the high seas turns out to be a little less thrilling than it sounds.
22:36We're not really moving.
22:44I don't like it.
22:46But as the wind picks up, a courageous new captain steps up.
22:53Pull it slightly towards you.
22:59Once scared to set foot on a boat, now Captain Gracie steers with skill.
23:05We're going to crash into them.
23:08And holds a steady course.
23:11Gracie kept the line of the boat nicely.
23:13So that's exactly what you need.
23:15Pull it a bit more towards you if you can.
23:19I loved watching her thrive in that position.
23:23She loved steering the boat and having that responsibility.
23:28Doing great, Gracie.
23:29Makes me feel really proud of myself.
23:33And I would definitely do it again.
23:35And it was really exciting and fun.
23:39In sunny Miami, Chris and Daniel are also taking to the water.
23:44This is it.
23:45Thank you very much.
23:46You're very welcome.
23:48You're welcome to intervene.
23:50They're on a luxury private speedboat tour at a cost of £350.
23:56A hundred years ago, Miami Bay was just a swamp.
24:00But now it's lined with holiday homes for the super-rich and famous.
24:04Cheers.
24:05Cheers.
24:08Do you see that house there?
24:09The one with the pillars?
24:10Yes.
24:11The owner is the inventor of the Viagra building.
24:15A hundred years ago, the Viagra building was the most expensive building in the world.
24:20Yes.
24:21The owner is the inventor of the Viagra building.
24:24A hundred million dollars.
24:27And the beautiful house that you see, the white one, is the house of Shakira.
24:31She can drop me off.
24:32Let's go.
24:33Let's go.
24:35It's just out of this world.
24:38To me, they were somewhere over the top.
24:40£20 million, wherever they were.
24:42But the display of wealth is making Daniel dream of a different life.
24:46Can you imagine waking up, no worries of any bills, just taking a boat out for a little spin?
24:52So I get the moment where you're working to live, whereas here, you're just living.
24:58It is hope and dream.
24:59Yes, hope and dream.
25:034,000 miles away, Liam, Gracie and Maisie are heading out for dinner.
25:08For them, that usually means a fancy restaurant.
25:11Spam fritter.
25:13Oh, Spam fritter.
25:15That's gross.
25:16Young's Chippy in Hartlepool is famous for deep-frying everything in batter,
25:21from cheeseburgers to chip butties.
25:24Cheeseburger deep-fried, I think we'll go for that one, please.
25:27Is this Hartlepool special?
25:29Yes, no one else does them.
25:31Normally, the family would spend £200 or £300 on a dinner out.
25:35It's only £12.80 and we've got five things.
25:40That's quite cheap, isn't it?
25:42Yeah.
25:43With a third of their budget already spent, they need to keep costs down.
25:48There's your food for you.
25:49Lovely.
25:51See you later.
25:52Bye.
25:53Bargains.
25:54Bargains.
25:55Absolute bargains.
25:59The dining room is a little different to their normal set-up.
26:04It's a bit about the weather, but...
26:06We can look at the sea.
26:08Yeah.
26:09Look at the waves.
26:10Look how far back the waves start.
26:13So, can their usual Hope cuisine be beaten by a battered cheeseburger?
26:17Do you like it?
26:18It's lovely.
26:19It's heavy.
26:20I'm going to have to roll Hope.
26:28It's not quite lobster, but it's all right.
26:33Coming up, Chris and Daniel get a VIP tour of Miami's wild side.
26:38The biggest one in here is about 13 feet.
26:41While Maisie, Liam and Gracie...
26:43This isn't a holiday, this is a sacrifice.
26:46..endure some educational entertainment.
26:49One, two, three.
27:01A jet-setting family are on a budget British break.
27:04Oh, I'm fritter.
27:06That's gross.
27:08And a father and son used to camping...
27:12..are living it up in Miami...
27:16..to experience holidays at the opposite end of the wealth divide.
27:19It's not quite lobster, but it's all right.
27:24It's the fourth day of the holiday swap,
27:27and Chris and Daniel have travelled from Miami
27:30to the world-famous Everglades National Park.
27:34They're going to get up close and personal
27:36with its man-eating alligator residents.
27:39Right, everybody's first time on an airboat?
27:41Yes. Yes, all right.
27:43This is going to be a fun ride, guys.
27:45Their private transfer by boat...
27:49..comes at a cost of £300.
27:54This guy was flying, I mean flying, through the Everglades.
28:00With donuts. It was magical.
28:08They're in for a wild day out.
28:14You guys did come to an alligator farm?
28:16Ranger Kat is giving the boys a VIP tour, costing £120.
28:21We don't farm these animals for meat or skin or anything like that,
28:24so these guys actually get to live the rest of their life out here.
28:27Alligators were endangered back in the 80s,
28:30but thanks to breeding sanctuaries like this,
28:33the population is healthy again.
28:35It's actually the most successful rehabilitation story
28:37of any endangered species.
28:41Chris and Daniel have a backstage pass
28:43to meet with the farm's tiniest attraction.
28:46So this guy's only about seven months old or so.
28:48Seven months? Seven months, yeah.
28:50In the wild, only about 2% of them will survive to adulthood
28:54because most of them will get eaten, OK?
28:56They're like the chicken nuggets of the Everglades.
28:59Slip you on it. Do you want one as a pet?
29:01I would. Just to hold that animal in my hands
29:04was a privilege, to be honest.
29:07Five-year-old alligators are slightly less cute.
29:10If he really wanted to, he could inflict some serious damage.
29:14Just sitting there thinking, I'm actually holding an alligator.
29:17What's going on? He was brilliant.
29:20But it's coming up to feeding time.
29:23So will the guys be quite so brave
29:25when faced with the open mouths of these hungry beasts?
29:32Back in Blighty, Liam, Maisie and Gracie
29:35are heading to Hartlepool's National Museum of the Royal Navy,
29:39also known as Gracie's holiday nightmare.
29:42Excited? No. No?
29:44I want to go home.
29:48This family's usual holiday activities
29:50involve lounging on sunbeds for most of the day.
29:53You know how you said this was a holiday? Yeah.
29:56This isn't a holiday, this is a sacrifice.
29:58This is a sacrifice. Yeah.
30:01Entry is 25 quid.
30:03With nearly half of their £150 budget already gone,
30:07this investment is a bit of a gamble.
30:10Whoa, look at that.
30:12It's just a ship.
30:14I was concerned about Gracie.
30:18She didn't look happy.
30:20She didn't look like she was going to enjoy it at all.
30:23They look so real, don't they, Gracie? They don't.
30:26But once on the deck of Britain's oldest floating warship,
30:30HMS Trincomalee, everyone starts to find their sea legs.
30:34Oh!
30:36Hey!
30:38It's solid, isn't it?
30:40It's massive.
30:42It was really nice to see her get excited
30:45and happy to kind of run around and look at things.
30:48Hello!
30:50She's not done that since she was, like, five, six years old.
30:53Aim, aim.
30:55Fire! Fire!
30:59This is way more funner than I thought.
31:01Is it? Uh-huh.
31:03Once you've got the ball rolling, it's good.
31:06I've probably enjoyed it a little bit more than Gracie, to be honest with you.
31:09Oh, no!
31:12I'm sorry.
31:15By the time they reach the gunpowder display...
31:18Oh, wow.
31:20..Gracie's a museum convert.
31:23One, two, three.
31:26Sort of.
31:30That was proper.
31:32Some museums are boring, but this one in particular wasn't.
31:38Like Gracie, Chris and Daniel are putting on a brave face
31:42as they prepare to feed hundreds of hungry adult alligators.
31:47You guys signed the waiver in the front?
31:49Yes.
31:51And they've had to sign a form saying any injuries are at their own risk.
31:55Hey, calm down.
31:57They're massive.
32:01So these guys can't actually jump out of the water, OK?
32:03Right.
32:05The biggest one in here is about 12 to 13 feet,
32:07so I'm pretty sure you can jump, like, at least eight.
32:09Yeah, yeah.
32:11I'm pretty sure from, like, here to there is less than that.
32:15But it takes more than some hungry alligators
32:17to scare two Welsh rugby players.
32:20Chicken wings. Chicken. Chicken.
32:28Ooh, calm down.
32:31Ooh, calm down.
32:35He's smiling at me there.
32:37Which one?
32:41They was just climbing over each other.
32:43It was just unbelievable to see.
32:45It cost £120 to get this close to these mighty beasts.
32:51Having the VIP experience is a once-in-a-lifetime thing.
32:56It just adds a little bit more sparkle on.
32:59I didn't just see them, I actually fed them.
33:02And it's a really nice feeling.
33:04Come on, little one.
33:06None of them got manners. None of them said thank you.
33:11Chris and Daniel's turn for lunch.
33:13An Everglades delicacy.
33:15Conch fritters.
33:17Large sea snails native to Florida and deep-fried in butter.
33:22Yeah, here we go, then.
33:25It's not...
33:27You're not fast enough.
33:29Instantly, that's all I tasted was grit.
33:32It's just disgusting. It weren't for me.
33:36Yet my father was enjoying it.
33:38To me, it's like a potato.
33:40No, no. That's not for me.
33:45It's day five of the holiday swap.
33:49In Hartlepool, Liam and Daniel are on their way
33:52In Hartlepool, Liam, Gracie and Maisie are braving the weather
33:56for some classic seaside fun.
33:58Oh, they look cute.
34:01A good old-fashioned donkey ride.
34:03I can smell them from here.
34:05What if they go like...
34:07and I fall off?
34:10Gracie is a bit apprehensive about getting on the donkey.
34:13She's just worried about the donkey kicking her off.
34:16These furry friends love their walks on the beach.
34:19Gracie, not so much.
34:21Oh, I can't stand in the sand.
34:23I can't stand in the sand, mate.
34:28Oh, look, Gracie.
34:30The little one's Scrappy, this one's Jack,
34:32and the one behind us is Tallulah.
34:34Aw. I like Scrappy the most.
34:37A donkey ride costs just £3,
34:39which wouldn't go far at their usual five-star holiday resorts.
34:44Oh, they're gorgeous, aren't they?
34:46Do you want to have a little sit on one and see if you like them?
34:48How do I get on?
34:51OK, put your leg over. Leg over.
34:53That's it. There you go.
34:55I'm really scared. You all right?
34:57I'm really scared. You all right?
34:59There you go. Are you OK?
35:01Feel comfortable? Yeah.
35:04Can I hold your hand?
35:07It's been so nice to see Gracie and Liam
35:10bonding the way that they have.
35:12Him holding her hand on the donkey
35:14when she was nervous about falling.
35:17Those little special moments
35:19that I've seen between the two of them
35:21has been really, really nice.
35:23She all right now? You used to her?
35:25Yeah. Yeah?
35:27Yeah, sit.
35:29Enjoying it, Gracie? Yeah.
35:31I would definitely do it again with Liam and my mum,
35:34and I think it was quite bonding for us.
35:38In Miami, Chris and Daniel are also hitting the beach,
35:42and this one's world-famous for its workouts.
35:45I got the guns out.
35:47Where?
35:49I didn't see how big the guns were today.
35:52Body guru Matt Martin is a legend on Muscle Beach,
35:56and the boys are getting an exclusive,
35:58tailored training session at a cost of £150.
36:02What brings you guys out here?
36:04We were fit once, but I think we've lost it a bit now, so...
36:07You came to the right person.
36:09Matt's 68-year-old client David
36:11is on hand to show anything is possible.
36:13Would you like to show us a front lever, actually?
36:18See, so, like, this is things you can do at 68.
36:21Right there. Perfect.
36:23Fantastic, innit? That's unreal. Unreal.
36:26Well done. I couldn't do that.
36:28Matt calls himself a body doctor,
36:30which is great for Daniel,
36:32who's struggled with his fitness since his accident.
36:35I was in a car crash a couple of years ago,
36:38so I've had reduced mobility since then.
36:41Yeah, I can definitely help you with that.
36:43After the incident with the crash,
36:45I'm nowhere near as physically fit as I used to be.
36:49It is getting better,
36:51but I'm still a good bit off where I'd like to be.
36:59To help Daniel, first up, some stretching.
37:02Make sure that foot is straight, so facing off.
37:05Yeah, perfect.
37:06Some of the positions, I was actually shocked.
37:10Slowly and gently come out.
37:15Next, core strengthening.
37:17Slower, slower, slower, slower.
37:19Stop. Perfect, perfect.
37:21Pull-up time. Daniel's out of practice.
37:24I can't even hold myself up.
37:25No, that's perfect. That's great. That's all you need.
37:27But there's an easier way,
37:29and it builds confidence as well as strength.
37:32Squeeze your glutes and hamstrings,
37:34pull through the elbows.
37:35This is going to be great for helping strengthen your back.
37:38Keeping us in all these different positions,
37:41helping with spinal injury.
37:43And it was a nice feeling.
37:45I think I'm going to carry on with the stretches.
37:49Back in Britain, Maisie, Gracie and Liam
37:52are embracing the budget lifestyle
37:54and have come up with their own free fun for the evening.
37:58I'm a female.
38:00Yes. Am I a singer?
38:02Yes.
38:04Usually we would go and pay to see a show
38:07or we would go and pay to see a film at the cinema.
38:11Is she older than Liam?
38:13No.
38:15All right!
38:18So we never really have to think of things to do
38:22because we just go and it's just provided for us
38:25because we've paid for it.
38:27Do an impression. Sing a song.
38:29I am not a singer. Sing a song!
38:31I know who she is. It's Taylor Swift.
38:33Ah!
38:35You saved me then.
38:37You saved him!
38:39He was about to sing a Taylor Twister!
38:41Twist?
38:43Taylor Twister!
38:45So we had to think of things to do
38:47and it was actually really fun.
38:51They've even invented their own game.
38:53Who knows who the best?
38:55How many best ones do I have?
38:57Four.
38:59Three.
39:01Get in!
39:03Who knows you better than me?
39:05Better than your own mum?
39:07That surprised me.
39:09I surprised myself a lot this holiday.
39:11We got to know each other a little bit better
39:13and we had a really fun evening
39:15and we didn't spend a penny.
39:17Coming up...
39:19Lord Chance!
39:21Both pairs find out how much it costs
39:23to holiday like the other half.
39:25We would spend that in one dinner easily.
39:29Plus your car, my car and a couple of more.
39:41A family used to five-star luxury
39:43are on a shoestring seaside break.
39:47Hello!
39:49And a low-income father and son
39:51are getting a taste of the high life.
39:53A beautiful house is the house of Shakira.
39:55You can drop me off.
39:57Let's find out if money can buy holiday happiness.
39:59Cheers.
40:05It's the final day of the holiday swap
40:07and in Hartlepool, Maisie, Liam and Gracie
40:09have been invited by Jane for a goodbye party.
40:13Hi!
40:15They have been game for everything
40:17and have smiled through it all.
40:19You have been so brave this week.
40:21You've been awesome.
40:23After activities and some extra spending on food,
40:25they've managed to save £30 for a barbecue contribution.
40:29Are you good at economising?
40:31Yeah, we're quite good.
40:33Look, we've got a whole bag full.
40:35You want a halloumi?
40:37I'm cooking.
40:39For Gracie, it's been a week of amazing experiences
40:41that have cost a fraction of what she's used to.
40:43You've done really well with the sailing.
40:47I've learnt that money isn't everything.
40:49If you don't have as much,
40:51you can still have a good time.
40:53Excellent on the tiller.
40:55Yeah.
40:57Natural, aren't you?
40:59We'll make a sailor out of you yet.
41:01Natural donkey rider, natural superstar.
41:03Yeah.
41:05Gracie, I mean, she's full of surprises,
41:07especially with the sailing.
41:09We've definitely got closer
41:11and hopefully more happy holidays to come.
41:13And voila.
41:15A bargain banquet.
41:17The perfect end to a week of family firsts.
41:19To life on a yacht.
41:21To life on a yacht.
41:23Well done.
41:27Cheers.
41:29Especially to you.
41:31It's not about what you spend,
41:33it's about who you spend your time with.
41:35We had such a great evening.
41:37To trying new things as a family.
41:39Cheers.
41:41To new things.
41:43Cheers.
41:47Chris and Daniel have had the holiday
41:49of a lifetime in Miami,
41:51but what will they bring home with them?
41:53When I get back home,
41:55first thing I'm going to do
41:57is sign back up to a gym.
41:59Start gaining the energy back in myself.
42:01Get back to where I should be.
42:03Cheers to that.
42:05It's been a much needed breather
42:07from the daily grind of working together
42:09in the warehouse.
42:11And a chance for father and son
42:13to share carefree memories
42:15that will last a lifetime.
42:17Spending this much time with dad
42:19brings us closer, to be honest.
42:21Getting up in the morning, excited
42:23to see what's going on.
42:25We go into bed excited,
42:27thinking that's such a nice day.
42:29It's been brilliant.
42:31But there's one last surprise
42:33both families have been wondering about all week.
42:35How much does it all cost?
42:37£604.32.
42:39£604.32.
42:41£604.32.
42:43Isn't that crazy?
42:45We would spend that
42:47in one dinner, easily.
42:49Let's find out.
42:51Wow, that's ridiculous.
42:53£20,800.
42:55I'm not being funny, that's
42:57your car, my car,
42:59and a couple of more.
43:01That's about 40 holidays for us.
43:03£20,000.
43:05It's checkout time
43:07for everyone.
43:09For the both of us to have this experience together
43:11is absolutely up this world.
43:13It's going to be
43:15one of those memories that we'll talk about
43:17in years to come.
43:19I absolutely loved it.
43:21Back home, sweet home.
43:23We've got a nice little goodbye from one of the seagulls.
43:25Thanks, Mr. Seagull.
43:27Thanks, Mr. Seagull.
43:29We're going to clean it, right?
43:31It'll be your first job.
43:33No, thank you.
43:35Back home
43:37in the Rhondda Valley,
43:39Chris and Daniel are reflecting on their
43:41special holiday.
43:43Thoroughly enjoyed the holiday.
43:45Don't think money does buy you happiness
43:47because your friends and your family is what makes you happy.
43:49Sharing a week with Daniel was superb.
43:51It does money buy you happiness.
43:53It makes you happy at the time.
43:55But to me, back in the house
43:57with the family is my happy place.
43:59Liam, Macy and Gracie
44:01have made it back to a furry
44:03welcome in Ely.
44:05Hello, little
44:07turkeys.
44:09I think we're all looking forward to sleeping in our own beds tonight.
44:11Oh, yes.
44:13The question is,
44:15does money buy happiness?
44:19No, but it does buy us nice holidays.
44:21Yeah.
44:23Next time.
44:25Oh, my God.
44:27Oh, look at that.
44:31Is this spicy?
44:33Oh, yeah.
