00:00Portuguese authorities are calling for calm following a 5.3 Richter scale earthquake that
00:08struck in the early hours of Monday morning.
00:13Government officials say the event was not strong enough to warrant executing recovery
00:17plans.
00:19It is a concern in the sense that the concern is to know if we have means of response.
00:25And a natural phenomenon with this intensity already allows to verify how the means are
00:34or are not ready and with the capacity to respond.
00:37Therefore, from that point of view, let's say it is a collateral advantage of an event
00:42like this is to be able to do this test in a real way.
00:48The epicentre of the earthquake was recorded in the Atlantic 58 kilometres west of Sines
00:54but felt as far as Lisbon.
00:57Up to three aftershocks were recorded.
01:00The earthquake caused no personal or material damage so far according to Portuguese authorities.
01:17It is Portugal's strongest seismic event recorded since 2009 when a 5.6 quake struck the south coast.
