Leeds Festival: Lauren Hague interviews Sheffielders at storm-battered event

  • last month
Leeds Festival was hit by 60mph winds which blew away tents forcing many campers to leave the site at Bramham Park on Friday.
But the weather improved and those that stayed enjoyed some incredible music.
Lauren Hague tracked down revellers from Sheffield and asked them why they were there.

00:00I'm here with Rachel, who's from Sheffield. What is it that keeps you coming back to Leeds Fest?
00:05I've covered Leeds for the past 10 years and it's one of my favourite festivals.
00:10The line-up, the atmosphere, it's just such a good vibe, I just absolutely love it.
00:17Leeds has the, like I say, it's just got that vibe, that atmosphere, you know,
00:23like the people, the Yorkshire people. I know people travel from up and down the UK,
00:29everyone's just really down to earth and it's friendly.
00:32I guess it's the closest thing we have to a northern edition of Glastonbury.
00:36Oh, 100%.
00:38What is it that keeps you coming back to Leeds Festival than every year?
00:41I think I just love festivals, you know, we have tramlines at home so I do that every year.
00:45And then Leeds Fest with two headliners, and especially this line-up, it's just amazing.
00:51It's quite local and close, how did you get here today?
00:54I got my mum to drive me and my mum's with me now but she's somewhere else,
00:58don't know where she is at the moment.
00:59She's gone AWOL.
01:00Yeah, she's my chauffeur.
01:02We're with all these lads from Sheffield.
01:04From Woodhouse.
01:05Woodhouse.
01:06What has brought you to Leeds Fest today all the way from Sheffield?
01:11Just a laugh to be fair, and the ice cream.
01:14I'll tell you what though, five quid.
01:16Five quid for an ice cream?
01:18The wind as well, it's sick.
01:20I love the wind and the dust, it's awesome, I love it.
01:23You love the dust in your ice cream?
01:25I don't know, I paid five quid for it so I'm not dropping it.
01:28So you've been here for the weekend then, or the day, what's the vibe?
01:31The day.
01:32So you really have just come out your way for this then?
01:35Yeah we have.
01:36Sick, well thank you guys.
01:37I'm with this lad from Sheffield, what has brought you here today?
01:40I've basically come on a volunteering event, so I'm going around helping people,
01:46if they've got any questions they come up and I show them directions, show them where the events are,
01:51it's pretty much it, but it's a good time, pretty easy, but yeah, it's good fun.
01:56So you're on a free ticket then in exchange for working?
01:59Free ticket, camping, and then yeah, we just come down and we just work I think three days,
02:04and then we've got a couple of days off.
02:06How did you make the trek from Sheffield to Leeds Festival today?
02:09Only Lana Del Rey, that's all we're here for.
02:12Have you got the day ticket then, weekend?
02:14We've got the day ticket purely for Lana Del Rey.
02:17Why else would you come to Leeds Fest?
02:20Honestly, summertime sadness, I'm going to be singing that one on top of my lungs.
02:24I'm a die hard Lana Del Rey fan from birth, I know every single song, trust me.
02:29Any other acts other than Lana Del Rey or is that it, you're just here for Lana?
02:33If they're lucky then maybe we'll go and see them, but apart from Lana, no.
02:37What about today, Leeds being in Yorkshire, it's still got that kind of home vibe similar to Sheffield,
02:44have you found that great yet?
02:47I've only been here five minutes to be honest, but it's not too long of a trek,
02:51it seems like a friendly place, everyone here says hi to me, so it's a good festival to go to.
02:56And did you guys drive here today to get dropped off, what was the vibe?
03:01We got dropped off just over there, the traffic wasn't too bad either,
03:05it's about 20 minutes of traffic maybe, it's better than a Why Not Festival traffic,
03:10I can say that for sure, that was awful.
03:12So I'm here with these two lovely girls from Doncaster today,
03:16What's brought you from Doncaster to Leeds Festival?
03:18Lana Del Rey.
03:19That seems to be the popular opinion today, everyone's here for Lana,
03:23what was it like getting here, did you get dropped off, did you get the train?
03:26We got on the train.
03:27Leeds is in Yorkshire, a lot like Doncaster,
03:30do you like that it kind of has that homely, friendly vibe about it?
03:35Yeah, it doesn't feel like the south, it feels like the north, and northern people are better.
