Kailyn Lowry Reveals If She Makes More On Podcasts Than 'Teen Mom'

00:00I don't know if you were Googling this, or if you've looked this up recently, but this

00:02next year will be 15 years since your episode of 16 and Pregnant aired, which then obviously

00:06spawned all of this.

00:07And now you're talking to your favorite authors, and you're doing so many different things.

00:11What would you tell that, Kale?

00:13You could talk to her.

00:14Keep pushing through.

00:15Just keep going, because it's scary.

00:17It feels like nothing is really progressing in the moment, but I feel like the bigger

00:20picture was that I was going to break through somewhere, somehow, someway.

00:25And I feel like I did in a way.

00:26Yeah.

00:27You definitely did.

00:28Was it scary when you decided that you were done with MTV and filming that stuff, and

00:32you're like, I've got to figure this out on my own?

00:34I mean, truthfully, I had toyed with the idea for a long time, probably a good two years.

00:40And I had always talked crap about leaving before.

00:43And then I actually talked to Chelsea, who had already left the show, and it was just

00:48like, what do I do?

00:50And she said to me, it is going to be the scariest decision you make, because you're

00:54not sure.

00:55Right?

00:56You're not sure in other places, but can you propel yourself from those points?

01:01And I think that was kind of eye-opening for me when she said that, because I saw how successful

01:05she was, and how she grew and flourished as a person after she left.

01:09And so I was kind of hoping for the same thing, and wanted to work towards the same goals

01:13in terms of the rest of my career.

01:15And so I knew with that, and also just wanting to give my kids the privacy that they deserve,

01:21I was like, this is going to be the best decision.

01:23So whether I make it big and go further than MTV, specifically in the entertainment world,

01:28or I go get a traditional nine-to-five, I think that it was time.

01:32It was my time.

01:34And it must be so many layers of that, because obviously there is the emotional part of it,

01:38and this is what I've been doing every day.

01:40But then the financial part, which I'm sure, obviously, at that point, you've been on TV

01:44for so long that that's a paycheck that you're very much used to, and supporting your family

01:47with.

01:48I think financially speaking, that was really hard for me.

01:51I think the rest of it, I was like, I need the mental break.

01:55But that being said, I realized at the point my podcast was financially more successful

02:01than Teen Mom, I was like, it's time for me to go.

02:04Was that the coolest feeling ever, when that first threshold crossed, that I'm making more

02:07money on the podcast than on Teen Mom?

02:09I think that was their worst nightmare.

02:13And there was only one producer who reached out to me and was like, I knew that this was

02:17going to be good for you.

02:18And I believed in you.

02:19And I believed him when he said that.

02:21So that was a really, really cool realization.

02:26Yeah.

02:27Yeah.

02:28You're going on tour.

02:29Tell me about the dates and what people can expect if they go see you on tour.

02:31Okay.

02:32So these are, I refuse to do big shows right now, because I am scared.

02:36So I'm doing very small comedy clubs right now.

02:39I will be touring in September and October for Barely Famous Podcast.

02:43And I have five locations right now, Columbus, Ohio, Dallas, Texas, Philly, and then I go

02:49to Cincinnati.

02:50So that's all in September and October.
