The line Saudi Arab | mega project. | Middle East | Construction projects | Big construction projects.
Transcript
00:00The Line is a futuristic city project and part of Vision 2030 of Saudi Arabia.
00:05The Saudi's Vision 2030 is considered a plan to reduce dependency on oil and diversify the
00:11economy. The Line project is the most unrealistic-looking construction project in the Middle
00:16East. The project is unparalleled in both social and economic experimentation, as it gives option
00:23to the humanity to live without pollution and traffic accidents. The city will provide a
00:28world-class healthcare system, so people will live longer. The construction of the 170-kilometer
00:34long city is predicted to cost $500 billion, and some other estimates claims the project cost may
00:40go as high as $1 trillion. It is claimed by the Saudi government that it will create 460,000 jobs,
00:46it will help economical diversification, and contribute $48 billion or around $180 billion
00:52in Saudi Arabia to domestic GDP by 2030. The Line is located within Neom in the northwest
00:59of Saudi Arabia, on the Red Sea with diverse terrain that includes red desert expanses
01:04and snow-topped mountains that have views of the Gulf of Aqaba.
01:08The construction of the Line city is underway as of March 2024. According to the official website
01:14for Neom, projects like the Line, Oxagon, Sindala, and Trajina is moving forward quickly,
01:21while initial foundation work is underway. The main project, the Line city construction work,
01:26is also underway in the initial phase. The Line will be home to 9 million residents.
01:32The carbon footprint will be zero, it would be one of the USP of the project.
01:37The Line will be built on a footprint of just 34 square kilometers. This will result in a reduced
01:43infrastructure footprint, creating never-before-seen efficiencies in city functions.
01:48The Line will achieve the zero-carbon footprint with the help of the design of the city.
01:52The city will be car-free or will eliminate the requirement of personal vehicle to transport.
01:57The city will enable people to get access to all the daily needs within 5 minutes walk.
02:0340% of the world will be in reach-by-air, with a travel time of just 6 hours.
02:08The projected city will pass through three different regions, coastal desert, mountains,
02:13and upper valley. The planned city will consist of three layers, one on the surface for pedestrians,
02:19one underground for infrastructure, and another underground for transportation.
02:23The transportation layer will enable the residents to travel from one end of the city to another.
02:28The layer will include a high-speed rail system, which it is claimed will allow people to travel
02:33from one end of the city to the other in 20 minutes. The Line will be consisted of two
02:38mirrored buildings with an outdoor space in between. The city will be divided into modules.
02:4495% of land will be preserved for nature. The Line will be 500 meters tall that is 1,600 feet,
02:51which will make it the third tallest building in the country, after the Abraj Al Bait clock tower
02:56and the proposed Jeddah Tower, and approximately the 12th tallest building in the world.
03:00The Line will be 200 meters that is 660 feet wide and 170 kilometers long.
03:07The city will be entirely covered from both the sides with mirror glass façade, which would be
03:11its beauty feature. The autonomous services will be delivered to residents with the help of AI
03:17technology, which would promote ease of living. Artificial intelligence will monitor the city
03:22and would find ways to improve daily life for its citizens. The residents would be paid for
03:27submitting data to the Line. The city will have a controlled, engineered natural climate, meaning
03:32the city will release warm air outside and cool air will be absorbed in, creating a natural
03:37ventilation. To ensure the establishment of microclimatic spaces, the environment has been
03:43carefully designed to allow for an optimal balance of sunlight, shade, and natural ventilation.
03:49Furthermore, the green open spaces throughout the city will further enhance the comfort for those
03:54living, working, and visiting here. The city will entirely be powered by renewable energy
04:00and water supply. The rail would be required to run at a speed of 512 kilometers per hour
04:05to complete the travel of 170 kilometers in 20 minutes without any stoppage.
04:11Saudi Prince bin Salman envisioned the Line. Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince and Chairman
04:16of the Neom Company Board of Directors, said the following, The Line will tackle the challenges
04:21facing humanity and urban life today and will shine a light on alternative ways to live.
04:27We cannot ignore the livability and environmental crises facing our world's cities,
04:32and Neom is at the forefront of delivering new and imaginative solutions to address these issues.
04:37Neom is leading a team of the brightest minds in architecture, engineering, and construction to
04:42make the idea of building upwards a reality. The Saudi Crown Prince and the de facto ruler bin
04:48Salman first revealed his ambitious program The Line on January 10, 2021. It was broadcast on
04:54state television. I would be interested in seeing how the promised futuristic city would come to
04:59life. Share your thoughts on the same in the comments below. You can also read the entire
