00:00We're going to go back to high school now,
00:03because the relationship between Travis Kelsey and Taylor Swift
00:07has some high school elements to it.
00:09Well, when you're in high school,
00:11you don't score $100 million, and he just
00:14did with his brother.
00:15That's exactly right.
00:16He signed a $100 million deal with Wondery
00:19for his very popular New Heights podcast.
00:22A lot of people think that's because of Taylor Swift.
00:24You know, what you got to wonder is, look, why did they do this?
00:28Why did they pay her this kind of money?
00:30Because, look, their podcast is great,
00:32and they've always been really good,
00:34but it's not $100 million good until Taylor Swift comes in.
00:37So now the question is, what does this contract say?
00:41We don't know, but do you think that the contract has anything
00:45in there referencing, yeah, talk about Taylor Swift,
00:50that Taylor might come on once or twice or whatever?
00:55What if they break up?
00:56What if they break up?
00:56Is that, like, deal done?
00:58I mean, I don't know, but if you were paying $100 million,
01:02wouldn't you ask those questions?
01:03I would think almost certainly there
01:05are some what we call reps and warranties in the contract,
01:08where you represent that X, Y, or Z will happen.
01:10It may not be a firm obligation, but in the course
01:13of these negotiations, they're going
01:14to want to hear about Taylor.
01:15Because as you said, this was a big sports
01:16podcast for a while, but when she joined the conversation,
01:21so to speak, by becoming Travis's girlfriend,
01:23it threw a lot of gasoline on this.
01:25I mean, this is up there now with the Joe
01:26Rogans of the world, the Alex Cooper, Dax Shepard.
01:30Selling a podcast for nine figures
01:32is a very rare thing in this space, and they've now done it.
01:35Yeah, and by the way, if you look
01:39at what gets circulated in social media
01:42and in media generally with their podcast,
01:46I don't recall anything solely football that gets circulated.
01:51It used to be football.
01:52Now it's Taylor Swift.
01:53It's all Taylor Swift.
01:54And they play into it.
01:56And so the question then becomes,
01:59what's going to happen in the next three years?
02:02I mean, they could get married.
02:03They could have a kid.
02:05So does this become kind of a mishmash of family and sports?
02:11Right.
02:12You know what?
02:12I think from that perspective, Wondery
02:13is in good shape no matter what, because it is
02:15a relatively short-term deal.
02:17And whatever happens, if they break up,
02:19and as long as they talk about the breakup on this show,
02:21I mean, that might get you the best ratings of all.
02:23Yeah.
02:24Although I'd worry that they bought kind of high.
02:26I mean, Taylor Swift is ending her tour.
02:28Also, who is this podcast exactly for?
02:29Is it for Taylor Swift fans, in which case
02:31it might alienate some hardcore sports fans?
02:33Or is it for sports fans without enough Taylor content
02:36and alienate the Taylor people?
02:37It's got to walk a fine line to please both groups
02:39in order to have a huge audience.
02:41Well, I got to tell you, and this
02:42is kind of by way of analogy, but I was on vacation last week
02:47and I read this book that we had the author on,
02:51Out of the Darkness.
02:53And it is a fabulous book about Aaron Rodgers.
02:57And I'm interested in Aaron Rodgers.
02:59I think he's fascinating.
03:01And I'm not a big football fan, but I'm
03:06interested in all the things Aaron Rodgers
03:08has done over the years.
03:09And when I picked up this book and I started reading it,
03:12it is football heavy.
03:13I mean, it's a lot about his career in high school,
03:17his career at Cal, the draft, and all the other things.
03:21But weaving in some of the personal stuff.
03:24And it's done in a really masterful way.
03:27And it's a 600-page book.
03:29I read every page of it.
03:31And I learned a lot about football,
03:33but I was interested in it because he kept weaving
03:37in a lot of the character stuff.
03:40And if they do the same formula for the podcast,
03:45that could work.
03:46I mean, I think this is a great formula for blending sports
03:49and that kind of thing.
03:51I think Harvey is primed for you
03:52to take his money in fantasy football this year.
03:53So he's really into football now.
03:55I talked to his assistant, Cameron,
03:57about getting him on the fantasy league yesterday.
03:59Somebody in the sports department
04:01came by me and said, you're going
04:03to be in the fantasy league.
04:04I think this is sort of like the hustler with pool.
04:08Get some money.
04:09Hey, guys.
04:10This is Max from Charleston, South Carolina.
04:12I would call these guys the Midas brothers
04:14because everything they touch is turning into gold.
04:17And I honestly really do admire and respect
04:22what they've had outside the NFL and all the success,
04:25with or without Taylor Swift.
04:26And they deserve every penny of this contract.
04:29Question for you.
04:30Do you think that they split?
04:31And this is not my question.
04:32So this is Kyle.
04:33Do you think they split it evenly?
04:35Travis is the much more famous one.
04:37He's the one with the famous girlfriend.
04:38That's a fun.
04:39It's an interesting one.
04:40It's not me.
04:40It has to be even.
04:41I think so, too.
04:43No doubt it is even.
04:44No doubt.
04:45They're not going to do that divide.
