Allansford A-reserve playing coach Travis Membrey speaks to The Standard after winning best and fairest
Transcript
00:00I'm joined by Travis Membrey from Mallinsford. You've just won the League Best and Fairest in the Reserves, Colin. How are you feeling?
00:07It's a great reward for the end of the year. It's been a long season, so to cap it off with something like that is very humbling.
00:14You've dropped back from the Seniors last year and you've taken on the coaching and playing in the Reserves. How have you found the year as a whole?
00:21It's been challenging, to be honest. Football, I love it. Every week it's really good. But I think coaching kind of takes the stress out of playing.
00:31You're too worried about 18 other guys on the ground to worry about yourself and then all of a sudden, we've got a game to play so we get into it. I love it, it's great.
00:40It obviously hasn't affected your playing too much?
00:42No, it was a bit different stepping back. But 18-minute quarters was fantastic when you're getting a bit older instead of playing 35-minute quarters in the Seniors.
00:51How old are you now?
00:5338.
00:54You've been in the club for 20 plus years playing in the Seniors. It must be nice.
01:03To be honest, I've never played footy for the Rewards. I've just been a nuggety back pocket.
01:08To get the opportunity to play a bit more midfield and just run around and pretty much just be playing with mates and taking it nice and casual instead of the high tense of Seniors, it was good.
01:19It seems like a great club to be part of and you've been there for a long time. You must enjoy being part of the club.
01:25Absolutely. It's a junior club with family everywhere. It's just a great place to be. We go down there. We've probably spent a good 10-15 hours a week down there with the kids.
01:38The good thing is everyone knows who everyone is and all look after each other and chip in.
01:42You must be happy you've seen this year both Seniors and Reserves in final. It's a great progress.
01:48It's a great building block. What we didn't get last year was a buy in from the players to Reserves. We'll see how we're going.
01:55This year they've already said, no, we want to be back. We're going to go further. Get that taste of finals. Everyone loves it playing at this time of year.
02:02Next year hopefully bigger and better.
02:08At the moment, depending on surgeries or whatever, definitely back.
02:14We're waiting. It's still too early.
02:17No problem.
