00:04several numbers of the passengers and drivers of the buses injured in Lagos State, Nigeria.
00:11According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, last month, a head-on collision
00:17involving two BRT buses occurred within the BRT lane on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, around

00:47It was gathered that the accident occurred late night on Tuesday with the collision involving
00:52two bus rapid transit, BRT, buses at the Iyano-Ipaja area of Lagos.

01:04Agency, LASEMA, Nusa Okumbo said investigations at the scene revealed that the BRT bus headed
01:12inward Iyano-Ipaja in an attempt to avoid crushing a commercial motorcyclist with passengers
01:17plying the BRT corridor illegally, collided with another oncoming BRT bus.
01:23According to Okumbo, no lives were lost as a result of the incident.
01:29However, passengers of both buses reportedly suffered various degrees of injuries and were
01:35all taken to the nearest hospital before the arrival of agency's response team, he said.
01:41He added that two tow trucks were activated to evacuate the accident BRT buses off the
01:47road.
01:48On Friday, days before the recent accident, a BRT bus stumbled close to Iyano-Ipaja area,
01:56also leaving many of the passengers injured.
01:59A video posted online saw the bus turned completely sideways.
02:03We learnt the fully loaded high-capacity bus, BRT, overturned on its side within the dedicated
02:09bus rapid transit lane along the Lagos-Aveyokuta Expressway near Iyano-Ipaja.
02:15The accident, which occurred earlier on Friday, resulted in 10 casualties, according to Punch
02:22newspaper.
02:23Lagos State Traffic Management Authority in a statement on Friday said the accident occurred
02:29around 7.45 a.m.
02:32A fully loaded high-capacity bus fell on its side inside the dedicated lane, BRT lane,
02:39with a record of 10 casualties victims, which they were taking care of.
02:44Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene to provide medical assistance and transport
02:49the victims to nearby health care facilities, the authority said.
02:54BRT buses had incident of being attacked by residents of Lagos State whom the government
03:00described as hoodlums.
03:01Earlier in the month of August, 2024, media reports indicated that the Lagos State government
03:09decried the recent trend of hoodlums attacking passengers and its bus rapid transit, BRT
03:15buses, warning perpetrators to desist from the act.
03:19Mr. Idowo Oguntona, Managing Director, Chief Executive Officer of Lagos Bus Services Ltd.
03:27LBSL, condemned the development in a statement signed by Mr. Afolabi Olawale, its public
03:33affairs officer and made available a week and some days ago.
03:38Oguntona said, the trend of hoodlums attacking buses has become both alarming and unacceptable.
03:45The Lagos State government will not stand by, either and allow such acts of lawlessness
03:51and illicit acts to continue in the state.
03:54Oguntona said the incident of attack on the company's buses by hoodlums, who vandalized
03:59the bus and caused panic among the passengers was inhumane, intolerable, and totally unacceptable.
04:07The bus, which was traveling from mile 2 to Leventies, was approaching the Orofe bus
04:13stop on the Orele exit with 35 passengers on board when a large mob suddenly emerged
04:18and swarmed the bus.
04:20The attackers assaulted passengers, stabbed them with sharp objects, and robbed them of
04:26their phones and other valuables, he said.
04:30The LBSL bus, according to Galaxy Television, reiterated government's commitment in ensuring
04:37that those responsible for the heinous act are punished.
04:40These criminals, who cannot be true Lagosians but rather agents of anarchy, have no place
04:47in any decent society, he said.
04:50He assured Lagos residents that their safety remained LBSL's top priority, adding that
04:55security agencies are actively pursuing perpetrators of the crime.
05:00Oguntona issued a stern warning to anyone considering engaging in such despicable acts,
05:06adding that their actions would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
05:11The Lagos State Government is committed to taking all necessary legal steps to protect
05:16residents and visitors.
05:18There is no need for fear.
05:20We assure all commuters of their safety while traveling on all public transportation platforms
05:26in Lagos State, the LBSL bus added.
