00:00Today, there was a national strike by the traders.
00:03The traders protested because according to them,
00:06everything is happening under the Tajir-Dos scheme,
00:09and the traders all over the country protested against the taxes.
00:15The PTI supported the protest on behalf of the Islamic Jamaat-e-Anpi.
00:19The problem in Pakistan is that the traders have not been ready to pay taxes for a long time.
00:24What happens?
00:25I remember the time of Parvez Musharraf.
00:27At that time, for the first time in my memory,
00:30there was an attempt to impose taxes on the tajirs.
00:32We were given figures that the entire Lahore Liberty Market
00:35might have paid 3-4 lakh rupees in taxes.
00:37The Liberty Market was the largest market in Lahore at that time.
00:40The market in Islamabad also pays 4-5 lakh rupees in taxes.
00:43And it was said that if the tajirs do not pay taxes,
00:45how will the taxes be collected in Pakistan?
00:47And at that time, our tax collection was also very low.
00:49What happened after that?
00:51In 2008, the government of the People's Party,
00:54the government of the Muslim League,
00:56whenever the government tries to impose taxes,
00:59whoever comes to power feels that they have to impose taxes on the tajirs.
01:02Because this is such a big community.
01:04But the opposition always stands with the tajirs.
01:07As I said, the opposition has now announced its support for the tajirs.
01:11I was also looking at the statements of Tariq-e-Ansar.
01:13I mentioned the INP.
01:14The Jamaat-e-Islam is also standing with them.
01:16Before that, we show you the news.
01:20In 2015, when the government of the Muslim League imposed taxes,
01:28the Pakistan People's Party also supported this call.
01:31Not just the People's Party, but Tariq-e-Ansar also supported it at that time.
01:35And Imran Khan himself went to their protest.
01:38Now, when Mifta Ismail was the finance minister,
01:43the tax was imposed.
01:46If you can show it on the full screen.
01:48The tajir brother is upset and complaining that Mifta Ismail should take back the tax on the electricity bill.
01:54Mifta Ismail received this order from Mariam Nawaz Sharif.
01:58Then we saw these footages that Mifta Ismail is joking with these tajirs.
02:03And the matter has been resolved, the tax has been taken back.
02:06Governments do not tax such a large section of society because they are voters.
02:13It will be difficult for them to vote.
02:17This is a big problem that we have seen.
02:19But why should they not be taxed?
02:22We are the people with the salary.
02:24If the total tax is 49%, we are paying the tax.
02:31Let's start with Mr. Kashif Chaudhary, the president of the Central Tanjim-e-Tajran.
02:37I would like to ask Mr. Mifta what was said to him at that time.
02:41Mr. Chaudhary, Assalam-o-Alaikum.
02:44Assalam-o-Alaikum.
02:46Mr. Chaudhary, why don't you want to pay the tax?
02:49There is no denial in paying the tax.
02:55We say that every person who earns should pay the tax according to their income.
03:02The drama of filers and non-filers in this country should end.
03:07But we also say that the tax should be fair.
03:12The tax system should be fair.
03:15The tax system should be easy.
03:17First of all, there should be an intention to pay the tax.
03:19Which you don't have.
03:21I am reminding you of the time of Parvez Musharraf.
03:24I remember the first time you shut down when Parvez Musharraf tried to impose a tax on you.
03:29That government tried to impose a tax.
03:31We were told that the liberty market pays a total of 3-4 lakhs in taxes.
03:35Jinnah Subah pays 3-4 lakhs in taxes.
03:37But you don't want to pay the tax.
03:39No, no, no.
03:41Look, this is not the case.
03:43The trader is paying a total of 44 types of taxes.
03:4644 types of taxes.
03:48From municipal corporation to board tax, trade license fees, excise duties to loyalty.
03:56He is paying a total of 44 types of taxes.
03:59And then he is not paying the same tax.
04:01In the sale tax and withholding tax, there is also a collection agent.
04:04Who collects money from the public and gives it to the rulers.
04:08The problem is that this is only about income tax.
04:11Otherwise, in the electricity bill, the trader pays a total of 13 types of taxes.
04:16He pays taxes on the gas bill.
04:18In the same way, he pays other taxes.
04:20And the schemes that are brought in are basically to protect the tax thieves in this country.
04:28Sir, how many traders do you have in the whole of Pakistan?
04:31Sir, one second, let's talk about the number.
04:33Tell me, how many traders do you have in the whole of Pakistan?
04:36Look, the number of traders is 36 lakhs.
04:44No, no, 36 lakhs is not the total number of traders.
04:47You have more than that.
04:48You are talking about connections.
04:50There are 1 crore traders in the whole of Pakistan.
04:531 crore traders.
04:54Do you know the number of people who do not pay taxes but file taxes in the whole of Pakistan?
05:03Earlier it was 17 lakhs.
05:05Now it has increased to 24 lakhs.
05:07You are saying that the 24 lakhs, in which the majority of the people pay taxes,
05:12more than 1 crore traders.
05:14You are a taxpayer if you want to pay taxes, right?
05:18Yes, I have been a taxpayer for more than a year.
05:22But the problem is that HBR has not issued a simple and easy Urdu tax return form.
05:29We ourselves demand that the electricity meter holder be given an NTN number
05:34and a chance to file a return from it through a simple and easy form.
05:39But HBR does not do that.
05:41It opens new ways for corruption.
05:43And what is the injustice done in this trade friendly scheme?
05:46That this is a trade hostile scheme,
05:49that the same kind of slabs have been made in different areas
05:53and it has been said that 60,000 rupees will be taxed per month.
05:57In an environment where people are not able to pay electricity bills,
06:00when there are 13 types of taxes on electricity bills,
06:03when they are not able to pay other taxes,
06:05when business is not running,
06:07then 60,000 rupees should be taxed per month.
06:10Whether the business is small or big, whether it has income or not,
06:14monthly tax has been imposed.
06:16And similar other slabs have been made.
06:18Income tax is given after the year,
06:21it is given on income,
06:23it is given after the calculation of business income and expenses,
06:27it is given on pure profit.
06:29I don't know why the government doesn't want to come towards that.
06:32And somewhere IMF is being made.
06:34Mr. Chaudhary, IMF has also put some conditions.
06:37Let me talk to Mr. Chaudhary.
06:39I will ask him a few questions.
06:40Mr. Chaudhary, the government says that it will not back down.
06:42Now what is your next step?
06:44You say, sir, I am paying a lot of tax, I will not pay.
06:47If they do not agree, then what?
06:49Look, the government will have to sit at the negotiating table.
06:54This matter will have to be taken seriously.
06:57Because we want to save this trade.
06:59If the trade goes on, there will be employment in the country.
07:02If the trade goes on, there will be tax.
07:04If the trade stops, there will be insecurity.
07:06That is why the government should sit seriously.
07:08And if the government does not sit, then we are waiting.
07:11And then we can invite the merchants of the whole country to Islamabad with national consultation.
07:18And in the same way, for an indefinite period of time,
07:20we can also go towards shutting down Pakistan.
07:23Because trade and industry are not going on as it is.
07:26Expenses are not being paid.
07:28Sir, do you think that there is no other way?
07:30Mr. Chaudhary, this guarantee can be given to the government.
07:33Sir, there is no problem in paying tax.
07:35Make it a little better.
07:37Like Mr. Mirta said that he shut down at Rs. 3000.
07:40Bring a better scheme or make such an arrangement
07:43in which the merchants also agree.
07:45You say there is such a way.
07:48Yes, there is absolutely a way.
07:50There is no difference in paying tax.
07:52I said earlier that every person should pay tax.
07:55The difference is in his style.
07:58The government should sit on it and tell how much tax he wants.
08:02Make it an easy and simple way.
08:04So the whole nation is paying tax.
08:06And the merchants are also paying tax.
08:08And are also ready to pay.
08:10Absolutely right, sir.
08:12But the news I told you in 2015,
08:14in which you protested
08:16because tax was imposed in 2017-18.
08:18And then when Mr. Mirta became the Minister of Treasury twice,
08:21he tried to impose it.
08:23You protested again.
08:25You made a fuss that we don't want to pay tax.
08:28Sir, it is not possible that every government
08:30has imposed the wrong tax.
08:32Kashib, the request is that how much tax should be paid.
08:35You are paying 44 types of tax.
08:37You are tired of paying tax.
08:39Believe me, after paying 40% tax,
08:42how much tax do you think I pay?
08:44I am paying.
08:46The problem is that you are paying for their luxuries.
08:48But you are paying.
08:50Start something.
08:51Streamline something.
08:52They have to go.
08:53We have to stay here.
08:54Streamline the tax system in this country.
08:56It is not possible that 2 lakh people
08:58or 5 lakh or 8 lakh people are paying tax in this country.
09:00This is also unfair.
09:04The tax payers you talked about,
09:06Kashib, those tax payers
09:08are very few in the government sector.
09:10They are also from the private sector.
09:12They are businessmen.
09:14They are the tax payers of the businessmen.
09:16That tax also goes through the businessmen.
09:20But the matter is that the government
09:22has to create an atmosphere of trust.
09:24The government has to like the tax system.
09:26The government has to reduce its expenses.
09:28Sir, you also have to protest a little.
09:30Everyone has to be ready to pay tax.
09:32It is not possible that you say
09:34that we don't want to pay tax.
09:36But thank you very much.
