00:00Mysterious rifts are overtaking Hyrule.
00:05Welcome to Mojo Plays and today we're going through all the details important to know
00:10before playing The Legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom.
00:14Once you learn an echo of something, you can recreate it whenever you'd like.
00:19Before we begin, we publish new content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring
00:24the bell to get notified about our latest videos.
00:29The Legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom launches September 26th.
00:34Let's get the boring stuff out of the way first.
00:37If you're interested in Echoes of Wisdom, you probably already know that the game is
00:40releasing on September 26th, 2024, which means it's right around the corner.
00:46It hasn't even been that long since the game was revealed, during a June 2024 direct.
00:52While there isn't a special edition of the game, Nintendo is releasing a special Hyrule
00:57edition of the Switch Lite.
00:59A Nintendo Switch Lite system inspired by the Legend of Zelda series will also be available
01:04at launch.
01:05There are also some small bonuses from various retailers.
01:08Picking it up at GameStop gets you a nice fabric poster of the princess, and pre-ordering
01:14at Best Buy gets you an acrylic stand featuring Zelda and her companion Tri, the game's logo,
01:20and an Octorok.
01:22We hope you're looking forward to playing as Zelda in this new adventure.
01:26Dark Times in the Kingdom
01:28Across the vast lands of Hyrule, strange rifts have appeared, and have taken many people,
01:35including Link.
01:37Nintendo sometimes keeps certain story aspects secret, and that's probably still the case
01:42here.
01:43But we can gather the basics from the trailers.
01:46It seems to begin with Link coming to Zelda's rescue once again after the princess has been
01:50captured by Ganon, and after defeating him, the hero is sucked into a rift caused by the
01:55villain's trident, but not before freeing Zelda.
02:05With rifts appearing all over the land, pulling landscapes and people into them, it falls
02:09to Zelda to save everyone.
02:12We've gotten a grander sense of this in footage pulled from the game's Japanese website,
02:16which shows even the king falling victim.
02:19There are also posters of Zelda around the kingdom, either missing or wanted, though
02:24she meets her companion Tri in a jail cell, and again from the Japanese site, we see her
02:30hiding from and distracting Hyrulean guards.
02:39Breath of the Wild Aspects
02:47Although Echoes of Wisdom is a spin on the top-down style of gameplay, there are a few
02:53aspects it has adapted from the Breath of the Wild era.
02:56Zelda will be able to collect various ingredients on her travels, which she can later use to
03:01make smoothies.
03:02Depending on your ingredients, smoothies can grant resistances to different damage types,
03:07or simply heal.
03:09Zelda will also gain a few accessories that grant different benefits, as well as different
03:13outfits, though whether these grant any bonuses or are purely cosmetic is unclear.
03:18Additionally, the UI is very much in the style of the last two main entries, including
03:24how your quest log is broken up between main quests and side quests.
03:33A New Hyrule
03:40Looking at the map of Echoes of Wisdom, you can see how much inspiration Nintendo took
03:45from A Link to the Past in terms of layout.
03:47However, the size of the kingdom has been greatly expanded on.
03:51This looks to be the largest top-down setting yet, which shouldn't necessarily be surprising
03:56considering they were released on handheld-only platforms for so long.
04:01Even still, we've seen a surprisingly large number of locations, including Castletown,
04:07Kakariko Village, and Gerudo Town, as well as the new Southern Village.
04:12It's not to mention homes for the Gorons, Deku, and both kinds of Zora, plus all of
04:17the paths, wilderness, and perhaps even dungeons connecting them all.
04:22Even with the benefit of fast travel, getting around Hyrule can prove challenging.
04:26The People of Hyrule
04:28As you wander the jungle, you might come across a Deku scrub.
04:33Just as it's great to see Hyrule expand, it's interesting to see what races Nintendo
04:38included this time around.
04:40The most unique case is the inclusion of both types of Zora.
04:44When the race first appeared, they were enemies that dwelled in rivers.
04:48They were redesigned in the 3D era as friendly, before both were canonized as separate.
04:53They don't often appear in the same game, but Echoes of Wisdom shows the two groups
04:58at each other's throats when Zelda arrives.
05:00The Gorons and Gerudo make a return, the latter being their first appearance in a top-down
05:05entry.
05:06We've seen one member of the Sheikah, who could be Impa, attack some guards.
05:10Interestingly, the Deku scrub race returns after a lengthy absence, while the Rito are
05:15nowhere to be seen.
05:22Playable Link
05:23I don't want to spend too much time on this one.
05:29Echoes of Wisdom will be Zelda's big time to shine, after all.
05:33But for those curious, it seems Link will still be playable at some point in the game.
05:38The ESRB rating description confirms this, stating he uses a sword and arrows to defeat
05:43enemies.
05:50This most likely points towards the opening section of the game, in which Link comes to
05:54Zelda's rescue.
05:55But some have begun to speculate that Nintendo is keeping something larger secret, like him
06:01becoming playable again later in the story.
06:03Regardless, we'll have answers soon enough.
06:13Using Echoes
06:14Sharing the spotlight with Princess Zelda are her unique mechanics.
06:25The first we got a look at was the Echo ability, courtesy of a rod given to her by Tri.
06:30This game's companion, and the first true one in a while, not counting the Sages of
06:36Tears of the Kingdom.
06:37Zelda will be able to copy items and enemies from across her travels, producing them to
06:41solve puzzles, navigate obstacles, and fight enemies in a variety of ways.
06:54That means there will be a whole lot of creative ways in which you can tackle any given problem.
07:00It also looks like you'll be able to have three creations out at once, represented by
07:04the number of triangles above Tri's head.
07:07Other footage indicates we can increase this number through upgrades.
07:17Faithful Steeds
07:24It may sound silly to make a big deal out of this, but hey, look, horses!
07:29The animals have become staples in larger 3D games, where their vast worlds have need
07:34of them.
07:35But Echoes of Wisdom will be the first top-down entry to have them.
07:39Before, Link could only gain quick bursts of speed through items like the Pegasus Boots.
07:44We've so far seen different colored horses, though it's unclear if there are benefits
07:48to different types.
07:49Additionally, Zelda will summon them from anywhere on the map by producing the echo
07:54of a carrot.
07:55Echoes will allow Zelda to bypass certain obstacles as well as deal damage by barreling
08:00through enemies.
08:07The Bind Ability
08:13Echoes of Wisdom features an ability very reminiscent of Ultra Hand from Tears of the
08:18Kingdom.
08:19Zelda can use Bind to magically tie herself to different objects and creatures.
08:23She can either tie its movement to hers, moving obstacles from her path or defending
08:28against enemies, or tie her movement to it, like using a moving platform to cross a pit
08:34or a bird to fly through the air.
08:36Like her Echo mechanic, Bind looks like it can be used to interact with the world in
08:40so many different kinds of inventive ways.
08:44Funnily, you can also use it to stop enemies from running towards you or away from the
08:48minions you spawn.
08:55Into the Unknown
09:03One of the aspects Nintendo has so far kept relatively quiet about for Echoes of Wisdom
09:08are the rifts that have appeared across Hyrule.
09:11The second trailer teased Zelda's ability to enter these at certain points, likely holding
09:15some type of alternate world that everything and everyone got sucked into.
09:20It wouldn't be the first time the series included traversal between two different worlds
09:25or realities, or the second, or even third.
09:28But what exactly we'll find on the other side of these portals, so far, remains a mystery.
09:33Whether they simply provide extra challenges with new gameplay, or something far more important
09:38to the story.
09:39After all, Zelda will have to save Link from this place somehow.
09:46And those are the 10 things to know before playing Echoes of Wisdom.
09:50How excited are you to take Zelda on her first official solo adventure?
