Old photos remember Blackpool's Talbot Road Bus Station
Transcript
00:00It certainly served its purpose for the best part of eight decades, but there was no getting
00:05away from it. The bus station at Talbot Road was a cold and draughty place to stand waiting
00:11for a bus. It was built in 1939, innovative for its day with the multi-purpose use as
00:17a car park. Trawling through these pictures is evident right back to the very early days
00:21that it was dark, dismal and criticised. On the back of one photo, the opening paragraph
00:27says, the worst possible advert for a seaside resort, that's the unanimous verdict on Blackpool's
00:33seedy Talbot Road bus station. But saying that, we all have memories of the bus station,
00:39aside from the smell of diesel. Many of us couldn't have done without it for shopping
00:43trips, catching the light bus home after a night out and the daily commute to work. It's
00:48all changed now of course, but it will remain one of Blackpool's iconic buildings.
