We try chocolate samosas from Bombay Deli East Midlands and discover a delicious new hybrid dessert
Transcript
00:00Hi, this is Ria for Derby World. I will be trying a chocolate samosa. Now I've
00:09never had this before. I've had samosas before that are chicken, veg and spice
00:17fillings but never a chocolate samosa. Let's see how I get on. So the chocolate
00:23samosa is from a deli, the Bombay Delgatesan. They've got a couple of
00:31branches in Nottingham. One that I went to was Carrington Street in Nottingham
00:36City Centre. Now they do samosas, that's one of their big things. So also
00:41street food and curries. So there are two types of samosas that I got. One was a
00:49Ferrero Rocher and the other one was a shortbread. Now my understanding is the
00:55shortbread variation has not been released yet so this is something of an
00:59exclusive. Now I'm not entirely sure what's gonna be in them apart from
01:04chocolate. I don't know whether it's just gonna be whipped or a mousse or it feels
01:09quite a little bit heavy but more dense. I'm gonna dive in now. So the samosas are
01:16the size of any regular samosa that fit in my palm which could be great for a
01:23dessert on the go. I do like how the different variations they look different.
01:29So the one samosa has got chocolate drizzle from side to side and the
01:34pastry of both are quite thick. Decoration wise the other samosa which I
01:40assume is going to be the Ferrero Rocher, it has a topping of melted
01:46Ferrero Rocher. I can't wait to dive in now. So when I popped into the deli in
01:55Nottingham I was told by one of the advisors who was serving me that to try
02:03and nuke it, to try and microwave it because apparently having it slightly
02:09warm the samosa is meant to make it more enjoyable. So I'm gonna go on nuking it
02:13now but first I need to just check what it's like on microwave so I can check
02:20before and after. I'm going in now.
02:25The pastry is really nice it's nice and crisp and light. I'm gonna go microwave
02:40it now. So I've microwaved the chocolate samosa, I've dived in and the filling is
02:49just really really nice. So this Ferrero Rocher chocolate one it's melted and it
02:57tastes a little bit like you know back in the day you'd make as a kid those
03:02cornflake chocolate clusters. It tastes like that, it looks like that even and it
03:08feels like that. So I love it, I love this chocolate samosa. I think it's great how
03:17the team at Bombay Deli they've taken two foods and mashed it up. I'm a big
03:24fan of hybrid foods anyway. I think it just gives a nice different take on
03:28things but I love this. I think I probably would love it even more if
03:33that's possible served along with say a huge dollop of vanilla ice cream but
03:41overall the chocolate samosa is a hit for me. I honestly can't stop eating it
03:50it's really nice. It's probably the highlight of my week. So thank you to
03:56Bombay Deli for creating a beautiful snack. I can't wait to try some more of
04:01your desserts. So the chocolate samosas I got they were from Bombay Deli. They
04:11have several branches in Nottingham. The one that I visited was on 22 Clarington
04:17Street in Nottingham City Centre. Now each samosa I paid £3.20 for
04:24one and there was a takeout. The takeout prices vary in comparison to dine-in. So
04:34I will be doing more food and drink reviews for Derby World. You can
04:39find out more about articles written on there and video interviews too on Derby
04:46World website that's derbyworld.co.uk. We also have a really cool Facebook
04:51page and an app too. See you soon!
