00:00Well, you might get hungry during today's lesson because today we are going to learn
00:05about vegetables from around the world.
00:09So as we mentioned earlier, vegetables, that's what we're talking about today, vegetables
00:13from around the world.
00:14And this is actually a video idea from Laura Luna.
00:17So Laura, what a wonderful idea.
00:20We're excited to talk about vegetables and hopefully you'll get hungry and excited as
00:24you watch this video.
00:27I'm racing in a race car.
00:29Okay, so life is really fast paced, right?
00:32And we get hungry.
00:33And there are some things that we just want to eat that's quick, that's easy, that's simple,
00:38that's healthy.
00:39And there's nothing that's more simple and healthy than eating vegetables.
00:44Okay, well before we learn about different types of vegetables and what they do for our
00:50bodies, how exciting, how fun they are, we have to answer this question.
00:53What are vegetables?
00:54Huh, that's a good question.
00:58Well, vegetables are parts of plants that are used for food.
01:06The truth is vegetables can come from any of the plant parts.
01:12Remember, there are six plant parts.
01:17The six plant parts are roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruit, and seeds.
01:28If you don't know these, we made a whole video on plant parts and their functions.
01:33I know, shameless pitch.
01:35It's okay.
01:36Let's get back.
01:37Today, we're going to be learning six vegetables that correspond to each of these plant parts.
01:46Carrots are roots, celery, it comes from the stems, lettuce is leaves, broccoli, they're
01:54actually flowers, bell peppers are fruit, and peas are seeds.
02:02Now you might be confused here.
02:04We need to say this because you might be like, what?
02:07Notice there is a difference between the plant part of fruit and the type of food we know
02:13of as fruit.
02:16Let's explain.
02:19You see, bell peppers are the fruit of pepper plants.
02:24Pepper plants grow and then they have fruit coming out.
02:28They're the fruit of the pepper plants.
02:32But bell peppers are still vegetables.
02:35Vegetable plants still have all the plant parts, okay?
02:41It's confusing because we have the same word for the plant part that we do for the type
02:46of food.
02:48Vegetables have fruit, but that doesn't make the vegetables fruit.
02:52Another example are tomatoes.
02:55Tomatoes are the fruit of tomato plants, but tomatoes are still vegetables.
03:00It's confusing.
03:01It's weird.
03:02It's not our fault.
03:03I don't know who did this.
03:04It's so confusing.
03:05It's okay.
03:06Okay, so here's our list again.
03:11We're going to learn about carrots, celery, lettuce, broccoli, bell peppers, and peas,
03:17and these represent all six of the plant parts.
03:20Hope you're ready.
03:21Ah, carrots.
03:22Look how orange they are.

04:03Did you know carrots are grown in every continent of the world except Antarctica?
04:09They're found all over the world.
04:13Why do you think they can't grow them in Antarctica?
04:17Yeah, it's a little bit cold.
04:21It's a little bit cold in Antarctica.

05:10Anyway, it's cool, carrots.
05:15The next vegetable we're going to talk about is celery.
05:19Celery is amazing.
