00:13Okay, from Rappler, how important is it for you, did you make it a personal appointment or job,

00:26responsibility to join our event to fight against fake news?

00:30Oh yeah, at Rappler we have always believed in collaboration in the battle against disinformation

00:36because we really believe that we can't do it if it's just a newsroom, GMA or Rappler.

00:43When we investigated the impact of disinformation in the elections of 2016 and 2022,

00:52we concluded that it is a huge problem because the technology that is being used to spread lies

01:02is so massive and so powerful that it will not take one newsroom to defeat it.

01:09Maybe that's why we are here with GMA and other media organizations,

01:17that the media collaboration and whole of society approach, not just media but also civil society,

01:26businessmen, church members, students, should all be included in the battle for truth and the battle against lies.

01:35Okay. Ma'am, how timely is this for you?

01:39Of course, in the last election, there were many ways to spread fake news,

01:45especially now that our technology is advancing, there are more ways.

01:49How timely do you think is this to totally open the sources that spread fake news?

01:57Well, it is not only timely but it's very significant as we approach the coming elections

02:04because at no other time in history has truth been under such siege, right?

02:10So, it's not just that, the development of AI, especially in video,

02:16it's easier to deceive people now because of TikTok, YouTube, Facebook,

02:23because their spread is there, our children are there.

02:28But technology is also there, especially AI, to quickly create fake news.

02:36You know, what we don't want to happen is for candidates and politicians in the coming elections to fake their way to victory.

02:45And so, on the other hand, to be able to deceive voters by using technology,

02:51and that is probably more important now because the problem of the lie that technology is being used is more serious now.
