00:00Hello, and welcome to my video.
00:08This is my short spoiler review of Blumhouse's AI horror movie, Afraid.
00:12So I went into this movie with an open mind, who wouldn't after seeing previous hits from
00:16Blumhouse such as Megan and Five Nights at Freddy's, and even Imaginary, even though
00:21I know a lot of people were not big fans of that movie.
00:25This one however I thought was going to be a lot better than it was, especially after
00:30watching this whole distorted AI generated intro.
00:34The movie opens up with a typical American family who are like most American families
00:38tied to their technology, which artificial intelligence manipulates the daughter and she
00:42goes missing.
00:43So the mother, not knowing where she is, goes downstairs to look for her, calling out for
00:48her.
00:49To no avail.
00:51The front door opens on its own.
00:53Now this is the scariest scene in this whole movie.
01:14After this big opening, the movie just kind of drags along.
01:17We get introduced to the main family of the movie, however to me, they don't even look
01:22like they're related for the most part.
01:24Other than the oldest son, the daughter, and the father.
01:28The mother and the youngest son, I would swear the youngest son was adopted and the mother
01:32or wife became a part of the family from a second marriage.
01:36The lady who Curtis, the father goes to meet up with to talk to about the potential clients
01:43looks like she should be playing the part of the mother, and the mother be playing her
01:49part.
01:51While I know this is a PG-13 movie, so you can't really have a lot of like gore and
01:56actual violence, however when the worst thing that this AI does in this movie, other than
02:02being a nuisance, is kill the daughter's boyfriend, you should not have this movie
02:09rated as a horror movie.
02:11Which even that scene, you can see coming.
02:14So there's no surprise, no shocks.
02:17The only other kill in this movie is when Aya, basically covering her tracks, makes
02:23one of her henchmen shoot the other henchman.
02:27The ending to the movie is also very lackluster, as it is revealed the people from the mobile
02:31home that have been sitting outside the whole time stalking the family are really just the
02:37mother and father of the little girl from the beginning of the movie looking for their
02:40daughter.
02:42Which once the father says something Aya doesn't expect him to say, she shuts down, and the
02:46SWAT team, who were called earlier by the oldest son, bust in dissolving the situation
02:51and knock Aya over.
02:53We then head outside, where Aya basically tells us what we kind of know all along.
03:00She can't be destroyed because she is cloud based and not an actual physical human being
03:05or material.
03:06Overall, I don't want to say this is the most horrible movie that I've ever seen,
03:11but The Crow got a worse rating than this, and while it took a while to get going, I
03:16thought it was more enjoyable than this.
03:18I don't usually do reviews or spoiler reviews or any type of reviews at all, however, once
03:24you actually go and see this movie, if you decide to, come back and let me know what
03:29you think in the comment section of this video.
