You might have seen sip and paint art classes popping up and that's exactly where I'm headed this evening.

00:00I'm doing something totally out of my comfort zone this evening. I'm going to one of those
00:05sip and paint art classes. You might have seen them on social media. I'm heading to
00:10one now and I'm quite nervous. Not about my artistic talents, although I'm pretty sure
00:15I did get a D for my A-Level at heart. But actually it's because I'm going alone and
00:21I don't tend to do many things by myself. So let's see how it goes. Wish me luck.
00:29I was advised to arrive 10 to 15 minutes before the start of the session to allow time to
00:34sign in, find my space and get comfy. Tonight we are at Liverpool Arts Bar on Hope Street,
00:40though they do events at various venues across the city. Safety first and aprons are provided
00:45here to protect your clothes. However, it is recommended to wear something you don't
00:50mind getting a drop or two of paint on. The session includes approximately two hours of
00:54a step-by-step painting session led by an experienced artist. We have the talented Tammy
01:00leading us, assisted by the lovely Rachel. After speaking to them both, I was reminded
01:05that this is first and foremost supposed to be a fun and creative evening. No pressure
01:11then. All painting materials need to complete your masterpiece along with the canvas are
01:16included. This evening we are painting a lovely Bob Ross snowy mountains landscape. We start
01:22by roughly sketching the features out and this was the moment I realised this is going
01:27to be the definition of trust the process. You're welcome to follow along with the artist
01:34or go your own way and create your one of a kind, but I'm definitely not brave or talented
01:38enough to do my own thing. By adding your own mix of colours, shape and textures, it
01:42is surprising just how different everyone's paintings came out at the end. Might have
01:47something to do with levels of talent too, but you know. Paint Vine, who are the company
01:51behind this event, say they started out because they found there was a lack of social, entertaining
01:55and creative mid-week events that people from all backgrounds could come together and enjoy.
02:00As the evening goes on and I start to see my painting come together, I am definitely
02:04getting more into it. I'm also starting to think of the last time I held a paintbrush
02:08in a non-DIY sense and I'm reminded of sitting in the sun on a family holiday in Spain with
02:14my uncle who is an extremely talented artist who doesn't go anywhere without his art supplies.
02:21I might look worried here because, well I am, especially as I scan the room and feel
02:27like my painting starts looking to me like not only have I never seen a mountain before,
02:32but despite flopping my 8 levels I did actually do quite well at GCSE art. But as Bob Ross
02:38used to say, we don't make mistakes, we have happy accidents.
02:42Now for the final reveal, after two hours of hard work and concentration, it may not
02:47have been the standout of the class, but I'm feeling pretty chuffed with my mini masterpiece.
02:52You get to take your painting home at the end of the night and I can't wait to proudly
02:56show it off to my family.
