00:00Remember Rose Hanbury? Back at the height of Kate-gate, before the world knew about
00:05Princess Catherine's cancer diagnosis, old rumors resurfaced about her husband, Prince William,
00:10allegedly having an affair with Rose, a family friend and member of the British aristocracy.
00:16There is no confirmation that such an affair ever occurred,
00:19and Rose, through her lawyer, has called the rumors completely false.
00:24However, those rumors put a very awkward spin on one of Kate's previous code names.
00:29According to the 2011 biography William and Catherine by Andrew Morton, while visiting
00:34Seychelles in 2007, the pair went by the code names Martin and Rose Middleton.
00:41The trip happened after the couple got back together following a temporary breakup in 2007.
00:46Marcia Moody wrote in her book Kate that the couple, quote,
00:49"...spent a sublime week renewing their love affair while undercover."
00:54It's unclear how they chose their nicknames, but Kate being called Rose is especially ironic now.
01:00A little over a decade after going by Martin and Rose,
01:03Will and Kate were first hit with the affair rumors, with this cover story from In Touch.
01:08Inside, accusations that Will had an affair with Rose while Kate was pregnant with Louis.
01:13When confronted, William allegedly, quote,
01:16"...just laughed it off, saying there was nothing to it."
01:19Aha! Always a good response when your wife accuses you of cheating. Haha!
01:24William's attorney called the claim false and highly damaging,
01:28but only Rose has ever addressed the rumor publicly through her denial.
01:32Rose isn't the only fake name that Kate's used while on trips with Will.
01:36Robert Jobson notes in his new book Catherine, the Princess of Wales
01:40that in the early 2000s, Will would whisk Kate off on getaways.
01:44Since the two were university students living with roommates at the time,
01:48Jobson wrote,
01:49"...occasionally they checked into hotels using the names Mr. and Mrs. Smith,
01:53which doubtless fooled no one."
01:56That's marriage, right?
01:58This was before the release of the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie spy movie of the same name,
02:03so Will and Kate weren't being cheeky about the clandestine nature of their outings.
02:08Jobson adds that Will, back in 2001, would sometimes use the code name Steve in what
02:13the author calls a rather pathetic attempt to stay under the radar.
02:17Kate has had some cheeky nicknames for William, too, including Baldi and Big Willie,
02:22according to an insider speaking to The Sun.
02:24The outlet reported that Duchess of Doolittle,
02:27a lighthearted jab at her reputation for having a relatively light royal schedule,
02:31was a nickname William had for Kate, sometimes shortened to D.O.D.
02:35A royal source told The Sun,
02:37"...nicknames for the royals may seem like a bit of fun,
02:40but they do sometimes use them to identify one another while not making that information public."
02:45The royals could have more secret nicknames that aren't public,
02:48but we're guessing Rose for Kate has long been retired.
