Transcript
00:30On paper, a very interesting contribution Henshi Sato and Beatus make to the strong
00:46tag team division in New Japan Pro Wrestling, but they have found success most recently
00:51at Fantastic Mania USA, a victory over a different combination of CMDK and Zack Sabre Jr. and
00:58Bad2Keto, earned them an opportunity here tonight, Henshi and Haston might get a newly acquired
01:04set of hardware.
01:20And it's certainly significant that that victory at Fantastic Mania came against, like you said,
01:26a combination of CMDK, of Zack's group, as Henshi Sato says, because Henshi Sato and Zack Sabre Jr.
01:32just continue to orbit around each other in our wrestling universe.
01:39But now, it's another CMDK combination, this, the strong openweight tag team champions,
01:46Shane Ace, Mikey Nichols.
01:49If gyrations reside for Shane Ace, these two men, one of the best tag teams professional
02:00wrestling has to offer, and has proven that not just as strong openweight tag team champions,
02:06also reigning as IWGP tag team champions in Japan.
02:11A recent notion from Hiroshi Tanahashi, president of New Japan Pro Wrestling, talking about
02:16wanting to isolate the strong tag team titles in the United States, the IWGP tag team titles
02:22in Japan, comes out with the blue belt on the evening.
02:39Well Walker, it's funny that you mention president Tanahashi, because as we just found out,
02:44a few matches before, on this very broadcast, Tanahashi and Ishii, they are now the number
02:51one contenders for the strong openweight tag team championships.
02:55You know that Tanahashi and Ishii are watching this match very, very closely.
03:06Talking about it all night, they just got a night of matches happening for the very first time.
03:14Oy, oy, oy!
03:23Well Mikey Nichols and Shane Ace, I know this from personal experience, definitely two guys
03:27that like to get rowdy, they like to have a good time, but when they get inside that ring,
03:31Beto, it's all business.
03:33It took Ace and Nichols a very long and grueling road to finally claim gold in New Japan.
03:44And after that journey together, I mean, like you said, they're having fun, but they're
03:49taking this more than deadly seriously.
03:54And this is actually the second reign for Shane Ace and Mikey Nichols, our ninth ever
03:59New Japan strong openweight tag team champions, a combined 112 total days, including today.
04:06As strong openweight tag team champions, 83 days, their current reign, this is their second
04:12defense you would see on the evening.
04:21Start off here tonight, Mikey Nichols, Hechicero.
04:24Can we talk a little bit over the past calendar year about the groundswell of support that
04:28Hechicero has gotten in professional wrestling, wrestled for 20 plus years across the Mexican
04:33Independence, across the MLL, and only just now within the past two or so being regarded
04:38as one of the world's best.
04:40Yeah, I mean, just and.
04:43Oh, shoulders down just to a magician, a sorcerer, an alchemist when it comes to submission
04:52wrestling and really it's been highlighted by as we talked about a little bit in the
04:56opening moments of the match has been highlighted by his ongoing rivalry with Zack Sabre Jr.
05:02to determine truly who is the best, the best wrestler in the world.
05:08And isn't it very interesting to see just the power that a platform can have on a wrestler's
05:14career ago, 20 years going virtually unnoticed outside of Mexico.
05:18Now, Hechicero is getting chance in an arena in Washington, D.C.
05:22and UK at the Copper Box Arena.
05:24We're seeing this groundswell of support for Hechicero, but might grow even bigger.
05:29Should he be able to pick up a future victory over Zack Sabre Jr.?
05:32For sure.
05:33And you can also say something similar about Hechicero's partner, Viras, a renowned
05:38Yave expert, a renowned trainer in CMLL.
05:42Whoa.
05:43As Hechicero takes back control.
05:46And it's only two.
05:48Who now having these strong tag title opportunities again as a team with Hechicero,
05:55it could be even more high profile.
05:58And TMDK, they know that.
06:00They know that they cannot out-wrestle these two experts.
06:04That is not a criticism of TMDK.
06:06Not at all.
06:09Former CMLL World Heavyweight Champion is Hechicero.
06:14Current strong Openweight Tag Team Champions defending here is Shane Hays.
06:19Interesting comparisons being made between Hechicero and Viras and TMDK.
06:24Hechicero and Viras, not a typical tag team you'll see in the CMLL ranks.
06:30First teamed alongside one another back in 2008 in Monterrey, Mexico.
06:35Same can be said for TMDK's Haston Nichols made their first time teaming back in
06:40West Australia in 2008 as well.
06:47Viras looking to take it technical here with Shane Hays.
06:50Yes, you can see it.
06:51It is obvious.
06:52There's no need to point it out.
06:53The size differential is there.
06:54But as you can see, Veda, that size difference doesn't really matter for a man like Viras.
06:58Yeah, I mean, they're both about six inches off the ground right now.
07:01If you can keep your opponent grounded, you can make up for so much.
07:05Cover here.
07:06Once again, it's only two.
07:09El Pequeño Maestro.
07:13That is a master with a lack of size, so to speak.
07:17Fifty five years of age to become a tag team champion in New Japan Pro Wrestling
07:22at that age would not be unheard of, but it would be the first time for a strong
07:26open weight tackle.
07:30Shane Hays immediately shutting that down.
07:34Whoa.
07:35But just like that, Viras able to escape.
07:39Taking all five, five of himself and six foot of Shane Hays back down to the mat.
07:43Here we go.
07:44Viras once again, kneeling and applying that pressure to that left bicep.
07:49Oh, Hays is still trapped.
07:58Hays with that strength advantage powering through.
08:03Beautiful.
08:04Here we go.
08:05Once again, Viras manages to take down.
08:07It's that Yahweh style so commonly talked about emanating out of Mexico.
08:12Here we go again.
08:13And crucifix two once more.
08:23Hays feeling good now.
08:30And it's Hays out.
08:32Yeah, that celebration maybe was a little premature.
08:38There's one thing that was proven back in G1 Climax by our good pal Yuya Uemura.
08:42It's that simplicity can get the reaction, can get what you need out of a professional
08:48wrestling match, a victory as well.
08:51And Viras keeping it simple, flashy as it may be.
08:55Yeah, sometimes you just got to judge it up a little bit because you can.
08:58Well.
08:59Oh, and speaking of, Viras.
09:03Oh.
09:06Recomposing the limbs of Shane Hays.
09:09And Mikey Nichols, he had enough.
09:12Oh, God.
09:13Our official goes down.
09:14And she settled.
09:15And Mikey Nichols came to blows just for the time being.
09:19Nichols tumbles to the outside.
09:22Oh, Hays.
09:23Oh, look at that.
09:24Tripped up.
09:25This is the beauty of a strong open weight tag team.
09:28I mean, the communication between Hays and Nichols at time, it is silent.
09:34And that's the thing that we need to acknowledge more than anything in this matchup.
09:37Shane Hays and Mikey Nichols have been teaming consistently since 2008.
09:42Hachiseto and Viras more so have a bit of multi-man tag team experience, but nothing really beyond that.
09:48This is the start of something potentially new for Viras and Hachiseto in New Japan.
09:52Right.
09:53It's a team that shows a lot of promise.
09:55But there's just, there's no way at times to counteract that almost psychic connection
10:02that a truly established tag team will have.
10:04Especially when like TMDK, they're willing to soften the rules a little.
10:09And cover here.
10:10Nothing soft about that.
10:13Hard shots consistently.
10:15Another tag.
10:16Once again, here's Shane Hays, that legal man.
10:19Notice Mikey Nichols not too quick to get out of that ring.
10:21Viras is going to have to force them both into the position he wants.
10:25Oh, bam.
10:27Just like that, shut down.
10:30And Shane Hays once again in on the cover.
10:33These two teams have never faced off against one another before.
10:45Yes, Hachiseto and Viras may have a win over TMDK.
10:48That's really only in name.
10:54Viras trying to reposition his body, trying to change some of the leverage here,
10:59some of the pressure on the neck.
11:01Shane Hays is waving Mikey Nichols into the ring.
11:06And once again, the powerful displace of Shane Hays and Mikey Nichols.
11:11I mean, he barely looked over at Mikey.
11:13Mikey knew exactly what to do.
11:15These two are locked in as there's another tag.
11:19Communication here, and that is a wishbone I would not want to be on the other side of.
11:26And we're going to see it one more time.
11:30Hard to tell who got the bigger piece.
11:33And Viras, he has been trapped in the ring trying to get a tag.
11:38Trying to escape underneath.
11:39Your fingertips away, fingertips away from Hachiseto.
11:42And Mikey Nichols, try as he might, has to bring back to the center.
11:47Hachiseto taking out at ringside once again.
11:50Scoops up Viras.
11:52The power of Mikey Nichols.
11:55Here for Nichols once more for the titles.
12:02El Alchemista del Ring.
12:04Hachiseto wants to make his way back inside the frame,
12:07but it's going to be a long ways away, Veda.
12:09And we are seeing frequent tags by Hays and Nichols.
12:15It is what it takes.
12:16Anything that it takes.
12:18Usoff the bottom rope.
12:20Takes down Shane Hays.
12:21Mikey Nichols underhooked.
12:22Oh, a miscommunication.
12:25At the station.
12:26Cover here.
12:27Two once again.
12:29And here's Hachiseto.
12:30El Alchemista del Ring.
12:33Hachiseto was waiting for this tag.
12:36He's taking on both members of TMDK at once.
12:41And it is so scary to see a heavyweight move to the sky like that.
12:46No, he can take it down any way.
12:48Just like that.
12:49Picks the leg out of midair.
12:51Beautiful.
12:53Hachiseto.
13:03Hachiseto.
13:05Takes it down.
13:06Brings it in.
13:07Crucifix through.
13:08Innovative leg hook.
13:10Brought right back through into the submission.
13:12I love that.
13:13Recognized that it wasn't going to work on the bidding attempt.
13:15Brought it technical instead.
13:18And really the only way Shane Hays was getting out of that was with the
13:21help of Mikey Nichols.
13:23That's exactly what we're seeing right now.
13:25Hachiseto.
13:26Rolling towards the outside.
13:31Villanueva.
13:32Single man, but Villanueva.
13:34Fights back into this match instead.
13:41Again, Hays and Nichols.
13:45They're never in a hurry for one to leave the ring.
13:49Wait a minute.
13:52Here's Hachiseto back inside the ring underneath.
13:55Brings the arm.
13:56Mikey Nichols in trouble here.
13:58And bam.
13:59Knee strike right on the butt.
14:01The crack of that knee.
14:04And don't turn around, Hachiseto.
14:08And Viru Tarakirana.
14:12Oh, Viru's ready to go.
14:14Taking to the sky.
14:15Airborne illness.
14:19And it's Viru's.
14:21Cut off and chopped down by Mikey Nichols over the top.
14:25Here's Hachiseto again.
14:26Look behind you.
14:27School boy, Shane Hays.
14:29One.
14:31Hachiseto frantically kicking out, but got caught with that roundhouse.
14:35So, so precise is Shane Hays.
14:38It's a power bottom from Shane Hays.
14:42No.
14:44Come on, Hachiseto.
14:55Hachiseto trying to regroup, but Shane Hays is up first.
15:02Hachiseto.
15:03Oh, my God.
15:06Tilt-a-whirl driving down, and Mikey Nichols has to break it up again.
15:12Once again, Nichols, the difference maker for his team,
15:16keeps the match going.
15:18We're in a constant state of perpetual motion here.
15:21Something's got to work out in the end,
15:23and Hachiseto might have just found the key to victory.
15:25Oh.
15:28Looking to dump Mikey Nichols over the top.
15:30No, holds on.
15:32Changes trajection, and Nichols is out.
15:35Oh.
15:38That leaves Shane Hays.
15:39But look, he snatches up Viras.
15:41Sends him into the corner.
15:42Viras out of the way.
15:44Oh.
15:47Another tag.
15:49Oh, and Viras signature takes down again.
15:54And it's only two.
15:55Good Lord have mercy.
15:57For two men who do not team alongside each other often in CMLL,
16:01they are making things work for themselves here tonight, Veda.
16:04Yeah, this would be a massive victory.
16:07Maybe even call it an upset as not an established team,
16:11and it could happen here.
16:13And it might.
16:14It very well might.
16:15Oh.
16:16Oh, man.
16:21A Tonkes buster from Viras and Hachiseto.
16:27Dragging Hays back into position.
16:36Whoa.
16:38Shane Hays all hung up.
16:40Oh, and Viras helps him back down.
16:46That's it.
16:47New champs.
16:48It's nearly, but nearly is not enough tonight.
16:53Good God, Veda.
16:54We'll see this one go to the 30-minute time limit if this keeps up.
16:58Oh.
17:00Hachiseto, Mikey Nichols planting down.
17:06Nichols swinging a miss.
17:08And Viras, smaller the stature, harder the impact.
17:13Viras with a drop kick.
17:16Looking for a cover.
17:17Right here on to Nichols, and it's two.
17:22Now, Viras, he's making the climb.
17:32Oh, wait a minute.
17:33Wait a minute.
17:34We haven't seen it all match.
17:35It's here.
17:36Tank buster connects.
17:39Shane Hays, the cover for the titles,
17:43and another defense for the record of TMDK.
17:49Speaking of defense, Mikey Nichols was playing defense there.
17:57He kept Hachiseto.
17:59You can see him there on the side of the ring.
18:01Kept Hachiseto from breaking that up,
18:05and it was that unspoken communication, that cohesiveness,
18:08that teamwork between Hays and Nichols that proves the difference maker once again.
18:14They're still holding on to the strong openweight tag team championship.
18:21An incredible effort from Hachiseto and Viras.
18:24Hearts and hands alike have to go out.
18:29But the best remains champion,
18:32and the best stand atop of the tag team division,
18:35not just in Japan, but here in our nation's capital in the United States as well.
18:40Shane Hays, Mikey Nichols, what a war.
18:50Walker, did Mikey Nichols take your water?
18:52Did someone take your water once again?
18:54Yep, that's become a common theme around here.
18:56He can get you like a fountain or something.
18:59Rude.
19:04You said it though, Walker.
19:05Hachiseto and Viras, they're really coming together as a team
19:09and could become an entirely new sort of threat.
19:16Oh, what's this?
19:22And when respect is deserved, it should be given,
19:26and TMDK showing that respect here tonight.
19:31Hachiseto and Viras proved a lot here.
19:34Even at the age of 55,
19:35Viras can continue to produce better and better results every single time.
19:39The results were not on his side on this incident.
19:42But I got to say, Vera, for our friends at Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre on YouTube,
19:48you can check out more stars of CMLL like Hachiseto, like Viras, like Chichar,
19:54like many others.
19:56Yoda Suti just competed in the Grand Prix International just a week ago in CMLL.
20:03And we invite you to please go check out the event.
20:05They end it here.
20:06All the tiers, YouTube subscriptions galore for CMLL Zone.
20:11But what a victory here tonight for Shane Hays and Mikey Nichols.
20:17Hold on a second.
20:18Wait.
20:22Well, we thought the Ace of the Universe might be on a jet back to his office
20:27in the No Japan Pro Wrestling Studio.
20:32Hiroshi Tanahashi and Tomohiro Ishii, remember early on,
20:35won that three-way match to become number one contender
20:39for the Strong Openweight Tag Team Championship.
20:46So is this what it looks like, Walker?
20:51Are they calling their shot now?
20:54I know they're behind me.
20:59Put this way.
21:01Don't turn around.
21:10Wait a minute.
21:11It looks like we're going to be hearing from one of these men tonight,
21:16and that man, the president, the Ace of the Universe.
21:26Ishii-san.
21:31Tanahashi.
21:35We challenge you, Royal Quest.
21:42What?
21:44The president says so.
21:46Hey.
21:49If there's anyone who can make a match around here,
21:52it is Hiroshi Tanahashi challenging me.
21:54Well, mate, where we're from, we don't have a president.
21:57We got a prime minister.
22:02But where I work, we have a president.
22:06So you want to challenge us for these strong tag titles at Royal Quest?
22:12It is October 20th, or as we say, the 20th of October.
22:18It makes more sense.
22:19It really does, though.
22:20It really does.
22:22And we don't back down, so you are on.
22:29Well, normally, Walker, we have to wait to find out if it's official,
22:32but the president says it's official, and it's going down at Royal Quest.
22:37No words necessary, as always, for Tomohiro Ishii and Mikey Nichol.
22:41Shane Haight and Hiroshi Tanahashi doing the talking.
22:44One makes the challenge.
22:45The other accepts it.
22:47It is official for Royal Quest IV live in London, England.
22:52The strong openweight tag team championship will be on the line.
22:57Hiroshi Tanahashi and Tomohiro Ishii picks on TMDK on October 20th.
23:04What a matchup.
23:05Hold on, hold on.
23:09Mikey Nichol and Tomohiro Ishii are two beasts that are very difficult to contain,
23:14but we're going to have to save that matchup for October 20th.
23:17The strong openweight tag team championship is won by Shane Haight and Mikey Nichol.
23:48Oh!
23:52Tomohiro Ishii takes the win, too!
23:56Tomohiro Ishii wins the match!
23:59Oh!
24:02Tomohiro Ishii wins the match!
