00:00Now they're my friends! I'm back in the UK! Oh, I can't say now they're my friends because
00:07somebody said, can you change your saying, now they're my friends? All right then, let's
00:12start again. Now they're my friends, enemies, keyboard warriors, and trolls. Today, we're
00:19off to Sheffield. On the way though, I've got to charge the car up because I'm in Leeds
00:23at the moment and I've been away for the weekend with my children and my girlfriend, so I need
00:32to charge up because I've only got like 40 miles of range left. Anyway, it's not an electric
00:36car video this, but what it is, is I want a little conversation and especially to my
00:41American friends out there because, listen to this, America has gotten so, so, so expensive.
00:53I mean, as you will know, and I'll say it again, did you know I used to live there for
00:5812 years? It's become a bit of a comical thing that, isn't it? But I lived there for 12 years
01:04and it was really, really cheap. Now, one part of that was the fact that it was $2 to
01:10the pound when I bought my apartment over in Hoboken, so I did really well because it
01:15was half the price because the pound was so strong. That's not it though. That's not the
01:21only reason. For instance, one buffet there in Las Vegas cost over $100 for one person
01:29and a burger, for instance, can cost you now, in the region, for a meal for one, burger
01:34chips and a drink, $60 plus your tips and the tips have gone up as well. It's a minimum
01:41really anywhere of 20% and a lot of places were putting tips on because you have to pay
01:48before you actually eat the meal and get your service. So even if the service is bad, they've
01:54still got the tip. It's all out of control. America, what has happened? And I know some
02:00of you are going to say political things. I'm not political, so it's got to be. Is it
02:08the fact that we had a lockdown? Is it political things? I don't know. Or is it just the fact
02:14that people have got greedy? America has got greedy. Your big corporations have got greedy.
02:22It's crazy. Now, this brings to me, I know it's the longest intro ever, but stay with
02:28me. Because if you look at the UK, we moan and whinge here about the prices and the cost
02:35of things here in England. And yes, they've gone up. But in comparison to America, we
02:41are nowhere near. We're not even in the ball game. Bit of an American term there. So today
02:49we're off to Sheffield to an American diner called Uncle Sam's and it used to be called
02:54Chuckwagon, but now it's called Diner. I think I've got that right. People of Sheffield let me
02:59know. Was it called Chuckwagon? But now it's Diner. It's an American diner in Sheffield anyway.
03:04And we're going to go and see, first of all, if A, the food is any better. American food.
03:09Do we have better American food here in the UK? And B, is it any cheaper? I can tell you now it's
03:16going to be cheaper and I've seen the menu. But it's going to be way cheaper than America. And
03:20it comes to sums then, when we've got cheaper American food, and I've read the reviews and it
03:25gets excellent reviews, and better American food than you do in America. What in America?
03:33Before we start, by the way, I love America. I absolutely adore America. I love it.
03:43Still love it. I miss Hoboken. And if I didn't have a family here in the UK, I would live back
03:49in Hoboken in a heartbeat. But it's expensive. So there we go. Anyway, we're off to charge the
03:57car up first, then we're going to drive down the motorway, then we're going to go to Sheffield.
04:00And if you do like the channel, and I'm not going to do the tip thing, because people ask you to tip
04:04before you've actually eaten the meal in America, now in a lot of places. So if you like the content,
04:09wait till the end of the video, then give it a thumbs up, and then think about subscribing.
04:15Right? Don't do it now. Do not do it now, because you've not seen it, and you might not like it.
04:21So wait till the end. Now, without further ado, my friends, let's go.
04:45🎶
05:02I'll tell you something else about America as well, and what has gone now, and is lacking.
05:07You very rarely see it, and we as Brits went over there, and it was obvious that your service was
05:16far superior to what it was in the UK many years ago. 1980 was the first time that I went to the
05:24States with my parents, and they saw it as well. Have a nice day now, enjoy your meal, and smiley,
05:31happy, happy to help, and it was all about that. And a lot of it was down to the fact of the tips
05:37because people are working for the tips, and if they give a good service, they're rewarded. Now
05:43the tips come beforehand, and tips are expected now in the US. It's like whether they give you
05:49bad service or whatever, they expect a tip even beforehand sometimes. Now the service there now,
05:56it's actually showed on one of my videos, the Steak and Shake video. The lady came over and
06:01just put it on the table, never said enjoy your meal or anything. And the service is lacking in
06:06the USA. Is it down to the generation? Where people now, I've been to Vegas before a few years
06:13ago, and went in that America diner in the New York, New York, and had to ask. I said to the girl
06:19behind the counter, when you finished updating your status, can I have another drink please?
06:25She was totally ignoring me because she was on her phone. So service itself has actually gone down
06:32in the USA. So service has gone down, price has gone up, and the quality of food has gone down.
06:39What on earth has happened to America? I mean America is supposed to be, it was supposed to be
06:44the greatest country in the world wasn't it? And now it's gone to pot. Is it all down to social
06:51media? We're going to find out what the service is like here as well in Sheffield. I mean they're
06:56from Yorkshire, so you know, they're very friendly up north, so it should be
07:01should be pretty good. I'm hoping it is, and if it is, it's taking the mickey isn't it? We've got the best
07:08American food for lads in Sheffield, with a smile. Well we'll find out, and I'll be brutally honest
07:15about it. If it isn't, I shall tell you, you know me. Come on, onwards.
07:34Even McDonald's had an emergency meeting the other week, so I was told, because their prices
07:42have hiked up so highly, and Big Davey watches the channel, a friend of mine in Hoboken, he's
07:47been on the videos. Big Davey, if you're watching this one, hi. He actually said the price of stuff
07:54over in the UK is way cheaper, and he sent me a picture a while back of a burger, or I think it
08:00was a muck, I can't remember what it was, it was something, some breakfast meal at McDonald's,
08:07and he told me how much it was. Outrageous. The prices at McDonald's are outrageous in the USA,
08:13and it used to be a cheap meal. It isn't anymore. The cost of stuff in the States have gone up
08:19astronomically. I mean McDonald's, come on. What has happened to that? It's crazy. It's all out
08:27of control, and where does it stop? And I will say this, it's only really, I've only really
08:34begun to notice it in the last three years. In the last three to four years, that's where
08:41the prices have just gone through the roof. Americans who are watching this, please don't
08:47be offended. I love your country. Absolutely adore America. I love everything about it,
08:55and it would be my place, I'd choose to live there if it wasn't for the fact my family won't move
09:01out of Leeds. I'd move them there in a heartbeat if I won the lottery. It's just crazy. What has
09:08happened? I don't know. Please let me know. Please check range. I'm charging up now, hopefully.
09:32So
09:47and by the way, on everything in the States now, let me get this thing a little closer,
09:53it's the same as here. Add to charity. Add to charity. Would you like to add to charity?
10:00No. I give to charity out of my bank for dementia, because that's what my mum
10:06suffers from. However, I don't want to, every time I go somewhere, round it up to charity,
10:12round it up to charity. So if it's like, I don't know, $13.99 for a burger,
10:20$13.09 for a burger, and you're going to round it up, that could mount up over the month. We need
10:26the money ourselves, you can't keep giving it to charity. And I ask you this, all right, how do you
10:32know that it goes to charity? And just give me a little thumbs up emoji in the comments section if
10:38you agree with this. These charities, just go online and look how much the directors of these
10:46charities take and earn for a living, and then question yourself, do you want to give it to
10:51charity? Come on.
11:08Right, we're in luck, charging 15%. So I think I might get myself a free coffee from Porsche
11:15now, and a free packet of biscuits. Steal some water as well. It's not stealing is it,
11:19because I paid for the car. Anyway, stay with me, and I'm having a bit of, do you know what,
11:24I'm actually glad to be back in the UK. The only thing that is a bit of a downer is,
11:29they're not really letting us have much of a summer are they? If you know, you know. Come on.
11:50Oh, I tell you what, now this I would have. What a gorgeous colour. Ice grey metallic,
12:03911 Carrera, £116,486, which is cheaper than what my electric Taycan was. That is gorgeous.
12:15Right, coffee, and then let's get out of here. My car should be charged by then.
12:24Right, I'm at 89%. There we go. Charging time, 36 minutes and 12 seconds. Come on, onwards.
12:45Right, that cost me £19.73, which I'm going to say, ain't too bad. I think Porsche have dropped
12:55their prices by the looks of it on their charges, because it was subsidised with Ionity, but not on
13:02their own charges. But now it seems to have got cheaper. Anyway, £19.73, much cheaper than
13:07filling up with petrol. However, it depends if you put a value on your time. This is not a bad
13:12It depends if you put a value on your time. This is not about electric cars anyway.
13:16Right, Uncle Sam's Diner in Sheffield. People of Sheffield, why was it called
13:22Chuck's Wagon? Uncle Sam's Chuck Wagon. I'm confused. Now it says diner. Have I got the
13:29right place? Is it different? Or is that what it used to be called? Anyway, babbling onwards,
13:33my friends.
14:04You know, I think out of all the meals that I had while I was in Vegas this time, the best one of
14:13them all, don't indicate it to me, the best one of them all was without a doubt, and it wasn't cheap
14:21again, was the Steakhouse at Circus Circus. That was a phenomenal steak. Absolutely phenomenal.
14:29The jacket potato was amazing. The salad was great. The service was impeccable. The atmosphere
14:39was superb. And that was old school. And that's what we need to get back to is old school,
14:46how America used to be. Obviously, it would have been a lot cheaper than that back then, but
14:52you know, I don't mind paying if you get the quality and you get the service.
14:59And that Steakhouse nailed it for me. It was brilliant. It was, oh, the taste of it. You know,
15:06I could eat that now. I could absolutely eat that now. But yes, it was expensive, that was. But
15:12I think that's actually, you should go there if you go to Vegas now, because I've got a funny
15:18feeling that the Circus Circus will be knocked down. I've just got a funny feeling they'll knock
15:24it down. And unfortunately, that Steakhouse will go, they'll probably relocate, but it won't be the same.
16:48So
17:06Right, here we are. Steel City, Sheffield. Yes, we're in Sheffield. I'll tell you what, the city
17:14centre, oh, it's a bit, I'm trying not to moan on this one, because I don't want to be a whinging
17:20pom for all the Aussies that are watching. But it's a bit, you've got to keep your wits about
17:26you in the city centre, because there's bus lanes, clean air zones, should be all right in this car,
17:31because it's electric, let the bus go. But they're pedestrianising everything and making it all bus
17:38lanes, bike lanes, pretty much like every other city really. But yeah, it's making it a little bit
17:43more, and there's cameras everywhere. You've got to be on your, got to have your wits about you.
17:48Cameras, bus lanes, bike lanes, bus gates. Anyway, I'm looking, I've worked up an appetite now.
17:5515 minutes and we should be there. And I don't know what I'm going to go for. Do I go for steak?
18:01Do I go for wings? Do I go for a burger? I mean, there's nothing more American really, is there,
18:08than a burger. Although that was created, hamburger was created in Hamburg, wasn't it,
18:13in Germany. But America made the thing of, they made the best burgers, didn't they. However though,
18:18I will say this, the best burgers that I've had recently have been in the UK. I think we're,
18:25I think we're out doing America for hamburgers, I have to say.
18:38So
18:56I'm gonna say, people of Sheffield, if you live here,
18:59I've come from the motorway. I'm pretty sure that there was a better way to get to this place
19:05than where my sat-nav's took me. It seems to have took me right through the centre.
19:10Now this place is on Ecclesall Road. What's there a better way? In fact, even if you don't live in
19:16Sheffield, coming down from Leeds to get to this place, Uncle Sam's Diner, why did it take me right
19:23through the centre? Anyway, we're around about here now, so let's look out for this place.
19:31Come on, it's around here somewhere.
19:46Right, okay, hopefully, I'm gonna park here on this side street. You have to pay at the machine
19:53and hopefully it's not like being in the Bronx. Although the Bronx is not that bad now,
19:59I don't think. Because last time I had a BMW, I came to Sheffield many years ago and I can't
20:06remember which part I came to. I came to Martin, the Silver Fox's sister. She used to live here.
20:12I came here in a silver BMW and it's the only time I've ever had my car vandalised was in Sheffield.
20:21They scraped down the side of every panel with a key and punctured every tyre. And that was a
20:28silver BMW diesel. And I had a Porsche Boxster at the time as well. That was my runaround car
20:36and it was brand new and keyed and vandalised. And that was in Sheffield. So there we go,
20:44hopefully, fingers crossed. Mind you, if they do, I'd rather them just take it and then that way I
20:49can claim on the insurance. Let's go and get a ticket or see whether I can pay for it online.
20:53Ah, right, there we go. I think I can pay by Ringo online. Let's have a look.
21:04No, it is pay by phone. Another app. How many apps do you need to have on your phone these days?
21:14Right, all bought and paid for. £2. It says two hours, but then on the app it says I get
21:19two hours and 20 minutes, but it cost me £2. Ah, not locked my car. Might be a good idea to
21:25lock my car, seeing as I've got my Apple Mac in the back of my boot. Dodgy around here, is it?
21:31I don't know. Maybe it's all right. There's a Merc over there. Right, let's get to Uncle Sam's diner
21:36and go and have a bite to eat. They open in two minutes. Fingers crossed. That's what it says
21:41online. Sign of the times, isn't it? Cafe or a diner right next to the vape outlet. There's
21:52vape outlets everywhere now. Maybe I should use the crossing. No, I'm going to run for it. Oh,
21:58where's that going? Come on, let's get over.
22:10Right, here we are. Uncle Sam's diner. Established 1971. I was born December 25th,
22:191969. Well, I'd be one, wouldn't I, unless it was December 25th.
22:23Let's get in there anyway. It looks very American themed. I'm going to like this.
23:23Right, here we are inside Uncle Sam's. Now, there is music playing, so I'm going to do my best.
23:47We'll sort of like do the review at the end of it. I'm going to try my best to take the music
23:51out in post-production. I've got to tell you, I love the inside of here, the decor and everything,
23:57and also the pictures on the wall. And after spending 10 days in Las Vegas, I've just had a
24:02look at the menu, which I'm going to show you in a moment. The prices seem extremely reasonable
24:07compared to the United States. I've actually gone for a peppered ribeye steak, which is served with
24:14onion rings, and you can have that with baked potato fries or rice. I've gone for the baked
24:19potato and I'm looking forward to the onion rings. I've had a diet coke and I've also had
24:24a strawberry shake, so there we go. While I'm waiting for that, take a closer look at the menu,
24:29my friends. Oh, and I've had the steak medium, so that's how I like it. I don't want to be able to
24:35revive it with a good vet. You know the score. I'll see you guys in a minute.
24:38There's my coke. Diet Pepsi.
25:09Right, as I was saying in the car, I said service in the United States has gone downhill a little
25:24bit. Nicola here, very, very friendly. She's from Sheffield and her husband is from Virginia,
25:30and I've got my strawberry shake here, and they've had the same ice cream people since 1990,
25:36and I'm keeping talking so we don't get a copyright strike on the music, and I can take it
25:40out as much as I can. But that's tasty and not too sweet either, so I'm looking forward to this.
25:50I'll see you guys in a minute when we get the main course, which is that steak. I love a steak.
26:00Right, okay, so the goods have arrived and it looks great. The potato came on a different
26:06plate, which is good. I like that. I've decanted it onto my plate though. Steak looks great,
26:12nice fresh salad. The milkshake, by the way, I did enjoy that. I drank that straight down,
26:18and I was going to keep a little bit for dessert, but I didn't. Anyway, everything looks fantastic
26:24so far, and the service is impeccable. Literally, I've just opened up. There's a couple of
26:31families in here already. I've got some ketchup, I've got some mayonnaise,
26:35and she asked me whether I'd like any mustard as well, and I said yeah,
26:38because English or French, I said English, the right answer. So there we go. Anyway,
26:43before we go any further, you know the score. Take a closer look, my friends.
27:04So
27:12so
27:29right, as I say, there is music playing, so I'm going to keep talking and we'll sum this up
27:34outside, but I've asked for it to be medium, and that, my friends, is medium. There's no red
27:43coming out of that. It cuts through beautifully. It's got a proper steak knife as well, and
27:52wow, the juices that are coming out of that. Very, very nice. Nice taste to it.
28:01Go for the jacket potato. Plenty of butter on there. The jacket potato is nice and fluffy
28:07on the inside. We've got the onion rings as well, and as I say, some nice fresh salad. Wow,
28:14that is very fluffy on the inner. Right, I'll come back to you in a minute. As I say, there's
28:18American music playing, which I like, but YouTube won't like it if I play it. I'm going to do a bit
28:25without ketchup, actually. That beautiful taste. The steak is perfect, absolutely perfect.
28:40When you ask for it medium, it's so difficult because it'll come back, and I know half the
28:46time it'll come back and you'll still be able to revive it. In fact, a few places I've been to,
28:53I've asked for it to be medium, and all they've done is pull the horns out and wipe its backside.
28:58It's been that rule. Anyway, this is perfect, perfect. I'll see you guys in a minute.
29:05Yeehaw! America, are you watching? This is how it should be done.
29:23So
29:30so
29:52Right, I'm showing my English this time because I said, what sauces would you like?
29:57Well, I've had ketchup, mayonnaise, and then asked if I'd like any salad dressing, and I said,
30:03can I have some salad cream, please? And she said, that's very English, which it is, isn't it? I've
30:08never seen any salad cream in the USA. I have to say that this steak is cooked to perfection.
30:15Beautiful.
30:32I can't believe the service here. Nicola's walking around here, asking if everything's all right.
30:37Obviously got some regulars in as well. It's fantastic. You know what, I'm gonna have to
30:40come back and bring my little lad as well, because he'll love that train. And the steak,
30:44wow, the steak, it honestly, it really is good, and not priced. I mean, what was that one in
30:52Circus Circus? $120. What is this? This is costing me, for the steak, for this one,
31:00this is actually costing me peppered ribeye steak, £17.50. So you can't complain at that.
31:08Leave me to it.
31:22Right, back to the car. Where do I start here? I've gone all the way to America, to Vegas,
31:28which is what, 5,000 miles, is it? Five and a half thousand miles, and I've spent many,
31:34many months in America over the last three or four years, actually, and many years,
31:41years ago, a few years ago, and gone back filming videos there, in New York, etc.
31:47And I have to say, I wasn't expecting much today. I thought, it's in Sheffield,
31:54and it's an American diner, and I thought, this is not going to be that great, especially on
32:00Ecclesdale Road in Sheffield. And I have to say, the service was outstanding. Now, some could argue
32:06the fact that it's because I have a camera. However, I watched Nicola with the other
32:14customers there, and you can get the feeling when you speak to somebody, whether they're
32:19nice or not, and whether they're genuine or not. And Nicola was truly genuine, really nice,
32:27very proud of her business there. The prices, I thought, after being in America,
32:34were exceptionally reasonable. The food was phenomenal. It was a great steak. Salad was fresh.
32:42Jacket potato was nice. The ambiance was great. It started to get busy. It literally had just
32:48opened up at 12 o'clock. The milkshake was gorgeous as well. Anyway, the bill came to £25.25.
32:58That was for a larger diet Pepsi, a ribeye steak with the jacket potato, and the salad, and the
33:05onion rings. Strawberry milkshake, £4.50. The strawberry milkshake wasn't that thick that you
33:10couldn't suck it through the straw that your head imploded. It was the right consistency. Not too
33:15sweet either. And it came to £25.25. And I left a £5 tip in cash. I paid on card with the bill,
33:26but then I left a £5 tip in cash. And when I went to the machine to pay contactless, it didn't ask
33:34me to leave a tip. In fact, I spoke about this to Nicola, and she said, in Yorkshire, she said,
33:40you'd probably get looked at funnily if you had that automated. But I think credit where credit's
33:46due. And I make money out of these videos. So I thought, you know what? It's a family business.
33:51And it was phenomenal. I'd go back. In fact, I've got a smile on my face. I am going to go back with
33:59my family. I'm going to go back with Sarah, James, and Harriet, because the food's great.
34:04She did giggle when I chose salad cream for the salad. But no, fantastic. And as I say,
34:14her husband is from America. So there we go. It's been there ages. So that's Uncle Sam's Ecclesall
34:20Road in Sheffield. I'm going to say that's the best American food at the best price and the
34:28best service in the 51st state of America, which is now Sheffield. Now, if you liked the video and
34:37we got to the end, do give it a thumbs up. It isn't a tip. It won't cost you anything. And if
34:42you like the channel, do hit the subscribe button for more content coming your way. Thanks for
34:47watching. And I shall see you guys in the next one. I'm so pleased. I'm so, so pleased. Because
34:54it's a family business and the prices were really good for what they were and everything. So I'm so,
34:59so pleased that they got a good review. Thanks for watching. And thanks to the many people that
35:04suggested that I go there and film Uncle Sam's. Thanks for watching. And I'll see you guys in the
35:10next one. Bye-bye. By the way, there isn't a 51st state of America. There's 50 states in America.
35:20I Googled it. I'm pretty sure that's right. Google says it's right. I'm just joking about
35:25the 51st state. Sheffield in the UK is not the 51st state of America. Just in case anybody thinks
35:33that it's false information. It's a joke. I'm kidding. Obviously, it's not the 51st state. You have to,
35:40you know, specify that. I don't want anybody thinking, oh, Sheffield is the 51st state.
35:44It isn't. Oh, and by the way, I got a little, one of these, look. I got a little swizzle,
35:52lollipop and a little mint as well. A mint imperial, individually wrapped.
35:57There we go. So there we go. Thanks for watching. Bye-bye.
36:03Hey, I don't think I marked it out. 10, by the way. I might have just put a little overlay on
36:07there, but just in case, right, it's 10 plus. The highest score you can ever get. That place
36:15is a 10 plus, right? 10 plus all day, every day. Can't get any higher. There we go. Bye-bye.
